In this video, I showcase a unique cutscene between Cloud and Aerith that occurs during chapter 8 at the Gold Saucer.
It's a secret, a cutscene that has eluded many. I haven't seen it in any first playthroughs, and it's only triggered when Red XIII or Barret is your closest companion. It's something that is a treat to discover on follow-up playthroughs.
The detail in this cutscene is excellent; it's a perfect interaction between Cloud and Aerith.

The way Aerith sways while talking, ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!

One thing I noticed was how a lot of the affinity conversations are like this too!! Aerith’s seemed much more cinematic, like at costa del sol you take little walk on the beach and at cosmo canyon it’s her big speech, at nibelheim you climb the water tower, they have have more movement and often, more personal and deeper subject matter while the others you seem to just stand there.
Wow you're spot on here, so much more detail put into Aerith's.
This is a great observation! To expand on it with my thoughts, literally every time, Aerith's affinity convos either advance the plot, are a lot more animated/involved, or BOTH. They also ALL are at least subtly or sometimes explicitly romantic.
The first time in Kalm, it advances the plot and leads to a non-optional date (as Aerith refers to it, and Cloud doesn't dispute). Her convo in Junon is preceded by Cloud overhearing her and Red and getting concerned. An early sign of jealousy since she's to an "unknown" guy? And the best answer has HER getting jealous that he gave the flower to Tifa. She gets the extended walk on the beach in Costa del Sol, with Cloud later claiming in the "date" sidequest that he would like a lowkey date liking taking a walk together. In Gongaga her convo is after a non-optional scene about Zack and is followed by Cloud's huge jealous moment. In Cosmo Canyon her affinity convo is the ONE that is non-optional while you can ignore the others, and involves her looking to Cloud for support in a moment of weakness.
And then finally in Nibelheim, you have a cornucopia of beautiful little moments. There's Aerith gently prying into Cloud's history with Tifa, there's Cloud choosing to tell her about the town a bit despite it seeming to mentally strain him, and then if you talk to her again Aerith follows it up by opening up about HER past, revealing her lonely childhood. And of course Cloud was willing to stay with her even if she was in a bad mood and took it out on him, but she didn't want to do that. Also notably all this happened on an iconic location for the rival ship. It's a bit funny that they gave Clerith this beautiful moment (or sequence of moments, really) on possibly *the* biggest Cloti landmark. Kinda dilutes how special it is for that ship. Which was maybe the point.
@@AlyssaJ14 yep, exactly my point! You put it all in words better than I could have though haha, and on that last part “which was maybe the point” well, I found it interesting that they also have aerith’s theme as the sheet music you find in nibelheim for the piano minigame
@@XJessicaSmileyX That was a bold and obvious choice by the devs to be sure. It would have made perfect sense to put Tifa's theme there given her connection to Nibelheim (and we're literally playing HER personal piano this time), but between the water tower and her theme, the devs were making real sure we couldn't forget about Aerith in this Tifa-centric place.
@@AlyssaJ14 The scene with Cloud and Aerith at Nibelheim water tower is enough to destroy Cloti for me. It's Cloud and Tifa's "sacred" place just like the church is Cloud and Aerith's place. If Cloti is the endgame or the canon then why did the devs put Aerith there? It would be so easy for them to make an intimate and romantic scene with Cloud and Tifa, where they climb the water tower after all these years, think about the time they spent together and become even closer. But instead they chose to put Aerith there. And if you compare the two scenes, the childhood promise with Tifa and the new scene with Aerith, in both scenes Cloud sits at exactly the same place while in the new scene Aerith sits at the exact place where Tifa used to sit. The symbolism is really strong. A young Cloud makes a childhood promise with a young Tifa while adult Cloud shares a bonding moment with adult Aerith. Cloud and Tifa is the past while Cloud and Aerith is the present.
Cloud my boy... even Aerith in the cutscene with Jessies portrait says it - you young man still got a lot to learn.

@@SarahDorn613 No, because her conversation is like any others. Adhering to their personality. Aerith is all about dates and teasing. So if you don't pick her she will point out she's jealous in a joking way and then tease the opposite. It would be weird if Red XIII did this or Tifa, out of character.
So no even if you don't date Aerith it's not about her. Rather whatever you do the characters in FF7R react consistently as they are written.
Nothing against Tifa/Cloud lovers, but yall had 20+ years to properly celebrate your ship. Remake/Rebirth series is 110% for the Clerith fans 💕

This scene is even better with Tifa. If Tifa is with him, he’ll try to get Tifa on his side to convince Aerith to not make new friends. Cloud is an absolute little jealous cutie pie in this scene 😊.
Another semi-related fun fact is that if Cloud is with Aerith Tifa's dialogue changes. She says she feels a headache coming lmao. While if Cloud is with Tifa in this scene, Aerith's dialogue is the same for the most part, it only changes at the start where she looks at them both and makes sure they aren't fighting lol. *The contrast*
Cloud is constantly in bodyguard mode with Aerith its adorable
No one takes their job as serious as Cloud does, 24/7 on it haha
It's so clear in this scene and many others just how much more love and attention Aerith got by the devs. So many scenes with her and Cloud compared to Cloud talking to anyone else are just straight up more involved. More animation, more cinematography, etc. And like, in this instance, the game is going out of its way to promote Clerith when she's NOT the player's highest affinity. Outside of Tifa's one moment in Gongaga (which appeared to be just her going for the kiss, Cloud was a statue) no one gets this kind of focus and romantic attention when they're NOT the player's statistical favorite. But looking at optional content outside the two dates, Aerith has this moment, the sidequest where you literally go on a date, the sidequest where you watch the stars and take pictures together, plus a truckload of non-optional stuff from the main story! How can people deny Aerith is the canon choice?
Finally someone else noticed that Cloud and Tifa didn't almost kiss in Gongaga. I'm so tired of hearing this when like you said, Tifa goes in for the kiss and Cloud just stands there like a statue. Also during the sandstorm right before the Barret and Dyne part, Cloud shields Aerith from the sand and just lets Tifa do her thing. Again him trying to protect her. Aerith's also the only one that can break Cloud out of Sephiroth/Jenova's control. Everything from Aerith's character model, her animations, dialogue and all the unique quests/side quests she gets, all have way more effort put into them. My theory on why some people don't see Aerith as the canon choice is they've never tried to play the game without trying to woo Tifa. If you're always aiming for sexy time with Tifa the story makes no sense since it lacks the coherency required to understand the full story. You'll have a basic understanding at best.

The only problem I still see with Aerith would be that she may also influenced the timeline/multiverse as Sephiroth does. She is clearly aware of it. Or even Sephiroth slipping up his control of Cloud's emotion because he has feelings towards Aerith (which could exactly be his reason to kill her - to complete his ultimate goal there is no room for love)

This scene happens too when you're with Tifa but it's hilarious to me because she's like, well you heard the man Aerith! And I'm like, girl, he's on a date with YOU and foaming at the MOUTH about ANOTHER GIRL in front of you! STAND UP. But yeah, you get the same exact convo, but the girls laugh him off. But him being solo, it's much more animated and much better. His jealously is a lot more obvious too.
Yeah I mentioned right before it that Tifa and Yuffie has kind of similar scenes. They're more so ones similar to the talking ones in FF16. The most work was put into the solo Cloud one though.

@@mikev8746 Nope you choose to see possessiveness instead of the obvious jealousy. Cloud is not possessive with anyone. It doesn't suit his character and he never treats Aerith like she's his property. He also gets jealous in Gongaga which by the way already exists as an optional interaction in the OG. They just chose to expand on it with more details in Rebirth.

Sure does, but I wouldn't think any less of an Aerith shipper not understanding Cloud lmao. Possessiveness is part of control. Cloud wants control over all else. It's part of his character traits to avoid things he deems unpleasant to remain in control. Fooling himself and being in denial just to keep the illusion that he's in control. It's entirely in his character to view all the ladies that like him as kind of attached to him. That's not a bad thing either lol. It just means he cares.

That or he was just annoyed that the girl he has built a bond with was stood up by some guy for 5 years and it brought her heart ache lol. But sure go tell yourself that it's jealousy.
I looove how much they put effort into the animation here. It's amazing! Also during my playthrough I noticed that when you were able to talk to your teammates and better the relationships with them, Aerith often had a very special and long cutscene. For example in Kalm you go on a date with her, in Costa del Sol you walk on the beach with her and in Cosmo Canyon, well it's all about Aerith there 😅 oh and Gongaga of course was special. Devs really gave a lot of love to her 💗

He clearly loves both Aerith and Tifa, it's just that the the devs don't really pick a lane, that's why the shipping war starts. Aerith and Cloud are the trope of opposites attract, and possibly tragic star crossed lovers, and Tifa and Cloud is a trope of falling in love with your best friend, or in this case childhood friend.

Similar actions happened in Remake too, like how successful you are with the dance at the Honeybee Inn gives Cloud different actions when Aerith hounds him about it afterwards. He may just stand here talking or he might wave a hand in frustration.

Making another comment to recommend the channel "yououui"s Clerith vids for anyone who hasn't seen them (including the guy who runs this channel, if you also haven't seen them)! They've got two separate vids - one for Remake, one for Rebirth, here's hoping for another vid when Part 3 drops - compiling almost all the great Clerith moments in the games. There's all the obvious stuff of course but also a lot of smaller and subtle moments or callbacks that people might have missed. Great watches for anyone who really loves this ship!

@@mlwjrpg just want to say, I totally understand if you're deleting some of my messages since I'm getting too aggressive about arguing with a certain guy. Sorry you have to see all that. Unfortunately there's no way to properly block someone on YT anymore but you can "hide" them so their comments won't show on your vids to you or anyone else. I found this out while desperately searching for a way to block someone, which doesn't exist anymore. I would have happily blocked the guy and moved on but unfortunately if I'm forced to see his comments (across multiple videos from different channels even!) I feel compelled to argue with him. :/
If you go to someone's channel page, then go to "more about this user" then to "report this user" there's a separate option to "hide" them (without actually reporting them, too, if you're worried about that). It's totally up to you, but I'd recommend hiding people repeatedly hating on your content so you and any Clerith fans don't have to see it. And yeah there are some people genuinely on the fence who are looking for clarification or debate who should probably be given a pass, but I think I've seen enough from that guy to confidently declare he's just here to put down the ship and anyone who likes it. I understand if you want to "hide" me even, though in my defense I'm not the one starting fights, just arguing against the guy who is. I love your content thus far!

So I started out similar. With the knock on the door, nobody there but if you are quick with your camera turn, you can see whomever knocked get on the elevator. I had Nanaki and got the same scene. Now I want to go back and try it more with different variants. Thanks for the Video

When everybody was running away from the "black materia' home, Cloud waited for Aerith to run in front of him. And he ran behind her all the way out. How protective of him. Well, he has always been protective throughout the game anyways.

3:14 “Standing like statues and stiff like.” 😂😂😂 That’s exactly how I felt. So I played FF16 after I played Rebirth, in hopes to alleviate my post-Rebirth depression, and the character interaction animation was one of the biggest shocks for me in FF16. Like how my friend described it, there were 3 tiers for NPC animation. 1 was a more cinematic design. 2 was standing like statues. And 3, probably my favorite, were the ones when they only recorded the first three words from the entire line of dialogue while the rest was silence. It’s like they ran out of budget or something. 😂😂😂

Cloud basically gets jealous even though he didn't date her. And if Cloud was dating another girl, he immediately became awkward in front of Aerith when she asked about it.
Somehow, Cloud seems to have no problem talking about Aerith with Tifa but not the reverse.
However, we can't ignore that all this might be a sort of tactics of the game maker: getting the player to interact with Aerith in the most profound way before killing her off, overwhelming all the player's petty hope and joy and convert them to loss and sorrow, feeding the incoming part 3.

Yeah it's just the conditions to get it isn't typical of the routes that most people go on first playthrough.

It's not really much of a secret conversation because it happens the same way if you're on a date with Tifa during chapter 8, but with more dialog.
Doesn't exactly happen the same way, the animations are vastly different and most of the conversation.
Please someone explain this to me ... When Cloud is in that wheelchair, he is wearing two shoulder pads, just like Zack uniform. But when Aerith wakes him up, he is only wearing one, just like the one he wears throughout the game. Now, the Cloud who is wearing the two shoulder pads, I don't think he met Aerith yet. Am I correct? Is this another confusing timeline?

... this scene actually still happens when you're with Tifa. And that scene is also cinematic because before the lines shown in the video, Aerith starts checking the both of them out making sure they weren't fighting. Then afterwards, the same scene in this video plays.
It's "cinematic" for like the first 4 seconds then it goes to basic conversation style similar to FF16.
I hope I'll have this cutscene when playing cuz jealous Cloud is the cutest and the funniest boy LOL

Dude, this is the cutscene I got when I went there with Tifa. She said the same things and Cloud responded the exact same way, and then he left with Tifa. They recorded one conversation with her and plugged it into very scenario where she wasn't the chosen date. Nothing deeper to it.
You might want to go back and rewatch the scene with Tifa and Yuffie btw, odd you left her out. But the scenes are all different, sure some similar lines. But the Aerith one alone was objectively the most fleshed out cutscene.
@@mlwjrpg I don't get your point. I literally watched this "fleshed out" cutscene, then my Cloud tongued Tifa passionately on the ferris wheel in chapter twelve. If we wanna make up conspiracies then Tifa fans can bring up the scene where Tifa and Cloud almost kissed in Gongaga after Tifa woke up from her Lifestream dip. You can even hear Yuffie behind the door hissing, "Kiss, kiss!" to them. But that doesn't matter either. The reality that some Aerith-stans seem to not get since the original game is none of these relationships are canon. It's based on YOUR PREFERENCE in YOUR GAME. That's why the dating game exists, and that's why arguing what the developers 'hint' at with their content is fundamentally stupid.

Also, when Aerith says “I saw what you did back there Cloud, thank you”. She is referring to him laying her to rest. The scene in which he says “I got this” and lays Aerith down while the party watches. Is the lake scene. However, his denial, manipulation, and knowledge of the future, has him confused.
He doesn't say "I got this" in Japanese and in French. He says "wait for me"
If you remember in Advent Children she says that the most important thing is that "he came for her" and Marlene says in Rebirth (more or less the same way in French/English/Japanese) when she describes Aerith's death "She is really happy that Cloud came"
I'm not Japanese speaker I saw some comment of people doing a literal translation and for those I watched, it matches with the French one.
As you, I noticed that she has the same posture as the one she has in the burial scene in the OG (her hands on her chest) but when Cloud comes back and ask her to wake up she has the same posture she has currently in her bed in the Terrier timeline. theorizing give me a headache lol

Also, Rebirth in JP has the same katakana with Reverse リバース on SE’s official site. Coincidence? Maybe, but I find it interesting.

Nope this scene is 80% unique, similar versions play with Yuffie as date or Tifa, but they aren't the same and are more like NPC like conversations.

Partially, yes.
If Cloud is with Tifa: She says something about their friendship, then a section is the same as the video until the end with “I’m jealous and I wanna hang out with someone” “STOP IT”. The cinematography is different from the video, but the dialogue is mostly the same.
If Cloud is with Yuffie: It’s a completely different scene and dialogue where Aerith teases if this was a date and Cloud goes “Absolutely not!” repeatedly
If Cloud is alone: The scene in the video appears and the difference is additional animation and cinematography.
Essentially Aerith gets multiple variations of interactions as a cutscene depending on who Cloud is with. I believe that’s not the case for the other girls who only get one unique scene if a different girl is with Cloud, but people are free to correct me if I’m misremembering.

Uh dude it's not secret. Cloud and Aerith have almost the exact same dialogue no matter who his date is, or if he's alone. Very minor differences in the interaction. Calling it secret is definitely an embellishment.

Aerith actually meets the real Cloud more often than other characters in the Remake and Rebirth. It seems that some people don't notice it or just don't want to notice it because it's more convenient for them

In all honesty, I could never really get this interaction between Cloud and Aerith. Is Aerith trying to make Cloud jealous? Is she trying to be teasing? And considering the fact that we get similar dialogue when Cloud is with Tifa, I'm just confused as to what direction this small piece of dialogue between thw two is supposed to mean.

Dude.. they literally just took the interactions from the other chapter 8 date interaction options and adjusted them a bit lol. If your point is that they put more effort into this convo compared to the others in general. That really doesnt mean much since Aeriths convo only triggers when you DONT pick her in the other instances. So its just a fun cutscene they made to add flavor to her playfull side even when you go on another date yourself
Also if you are reading this much into things like that for confirmation. You have to likewise use the same amount of mental rationalizing for every other detail found in these games.
Its all good to have preferences but these games really are very clear cut about what happens and the place everyone resides at in relation to Cloud.
Examples like this might take your head for a spin if you deliberately look at it from a certain angle and ignore glaring facts. But in truth it really means nothing. Its literally like your HA/LO video. Sometimes its just developer workflows at work and they meant nothing by it. The extra effort on this conversation was already there because it was used to contrast for Cloud picking another person for his date and then encountering her.

It's a very normal human responds. It also helps mediate the discussion. Given how I think allot of people just blindly nod along. This might also be a good thing for Part 3 since I get the feeling allot of people might grab their pitch forks the moment they realize their ship wasn't represented in the game they bought even though it was never promised it would.
You are blind if you don't see ANY significance to ONLY Aerith getting a moment that is clearly meant to show Cloud is jealous of the thought of her finding someone else (his immediate reaction here is VERY similar to his jealous flare-up about Zack in Gongaga. But considering it's you I doubt you'll acknowledge he was even jealous there...) in a scene that only plays if you DON'T date her this chapter.
Here's an easy comparison. Tifa's non-date convo this chapter is just a chill "oh hey Cloud. feeling better? This place is a bit overwhelming for me". Not a HINT of romance if you're not dating her. Meanwhile, whether Cloud is alone or with Tifa/Yuffie, Aerith playfully implies she should find someone to go around with (basically a date) which Cloud IMMEDIATELY shuts down because he doesn't like it. It's a knee-jerk jealousy response that he tries to cover up by "uh anyone could be a Shinra spy..." And I know that YOU will insist he means exactly what he says here and ISN'T jealous. But considering the difference between his FIRM "stop it" followed by a hesitation ("uh") and then his softer tone and averted eyes while he talks about a Shinra spy... he's lying. He's trying to save face after his feelings briefly took the wheel away from him.
You can deny Aerith is the canon love interest if you really want. It makes you look ridiculous (and like a grade A jerk), especially when you insist on doing it HERE among a comment section full of people who LOVE the ship, but you're free to have your wrong opinion. What you CAN'T deny, because it should be obvious to anyone with eyes and a working brain, is that Aerith gets more love from the devs on the whole. Basically all of her optional content and choices are more substantial than the rest of the parties.
Only Aerith gets a longer conversation in Costa del Sol where they walk together (and by the way, Cloud later expresses a preference for a "simple" date like "taking a walk" in the sidequest where you... literally go on a date with Aerith. But I bet you like to pretend that sidequest doesn't exist). Everyone else has a short conversation where both parties remain mostly in place. Only Aerith has a conversation that, again, involves GOING somewhere in Nibelheim. You follow her up the water tower (and I'm sure it must sting to have a nice moment with her in one of Cloti's iconic places. Dilutes how special it is for you) and despite the mental strain it seems to cause him, Cloud CHOOSES to open up to her about the town. Talk to her again and you get ANOTHER scene, with Aerith reciprocating and opening up to him about HER past. Only Aerith gets affinity convos that DIRECTLY TIE INTO THE PLOT, THREE TIMES in Kalm (where regardless of what you say, Cloud and Aerith go on a non-optional date (as she calls it and he doesn't dispute)) and Cosmo Canyon (where you can straight up IGNORE all the others but you HAVE to do hers and it involves her having a big speech where she pauses and looks to him for support in a moment of weakness), and Gongaga between two exposition scenes about Zack.
You can deny any or all of these moments are romantic until you're blue in the face. It won't convince literally anyone, but feel free to waste your breath. What you CAN'T deny, because it is OBJECTIVELY TRUE, is that compared to the bonding moments with the rest of the party, Aerith's are LONGER and MATTER MORE to the plot. The devs put MORE effort and time into them and they are IMPORTANT, as evidenced by the fact that you can NEVER skip Aerith's affinity convos. A fact which isn't true for ANY other party member, including Tifa. You can't deny that at least. Please stop watching and commenting on Clerith vids out of spite. Surely there's a better way to kill time for you that makes you happy WITHOUT picking fights online.

Right after Remake, I read a lot of comments about how we were supposed to see something with our own eyes in the second part of the trilogy. Now, after Rebirth, I hear that we should wait for the third part, because the second one was not as convincing for many as some people previously assumed. In a few years you'll run out of parts to keep repeating it over and over again

But she isn't? Holy crap hahaha. Have you payed attention to the game and played the OG? How can she be the canon love interest? Ignoring all the obvious character interactions and buildup in the remakes. You do realize she's dead by now? And died in the OG? And Cloud is about to remember who he is and what drove him as a person? You can't seriously ignore all that just because you relate yourself more to Aerith as a girl than Tifa. Because you people need to start playing the game and stop playing the ship. At this point people are going to burn copies of Part 3 and it's tiresome that fans start to get angry with these series over every small disappointment that doesn't align to their beliefs or wishes. I don't actually need to argue about Rebirth. I've played that game and understood the hint (I wanted to choose Aerith before starting the game, I'm not a shipper). But if you want to believe something else be my guest. However Part 3 will not be to your liking and others of your belief. And it would be nice to not have a FF release mired in hate and toxicity. If you can promise me you will embrace Part 3 for what it is and how it ends regardless I will leave it be.

Really? Do you actually believe that or is your interest just extra peeked whenever she's involved? I'll give you a little hint here. Aerith, is way way more important to the story of Rebirth than any other female character. Because.. she dies.. and does things to the plot.. But even then all the attention she gets is based on that story plot point. Tifa gets tons of attention which was actually surprising. Did Aerith kiss cloud or try to kiss him? Have you noticed the whole Nibelheim flashback and return segment? However Aerith still is the soul of this middle chapter. But that's not because she's the most important person to Cloud. It's because she's the most important person in this part of the game. You're confused.

So? Tifa gets a longer conversation with Cloud in Lower Junon. Whats your point? That you ignored that part skipping through it fast as hell but were loving every second of the Costa segment because it related to your ship? You have no point here. These characters all get a spotlight. The discussion should be on the context of their spotlights in relation to eachother and to the main character.

Right I remember, this is the fanbase where everytime Aerith and Cloud walk side by side and she calls it a date for the funs of it. That it literally automatically turns into a date. I didn't knew any random girl could just walk next to me and conclude we're on a date as of then and there's no say I have in the matter lmao. And his preference is just him given a straight up answer. People give answers to questions people propose. But ofcourse you read something deep into that and equated it to the Costa sunset moment or something. Insanity. But this is the fanbase that looked at the ending credits segment for confirmation about which GS date is canon just so they could forget that awfully traumatizing kiss.. which by the way, why didn't they get to kiss? You'd think that's something they would want to do/the developers want to include if their limited time was coming to an end? They had a shot at their GS date you know? The perfect moment. Why did both of them play it off awkwardly like they were brother and sister on a date? Really now?

They’re not even officially boyfriend and girlfriend. Zack is always described as Aerith’s first love (初恋) in every official media, the games and ultimanias. If they really were, it should’ve been described as 元カレ/元カノ (former boyfriend/girlfriend). Aerith is just the girl Zack likes the most, they had a puppy, platonic love as described on CC Ultimania. And it happened it THE PAST.
Most importantly, Aerith doesn’t own Zack anything because of the reasons above. She has rights to love someone else after all these years and it happens to be Cloud.
You only think of Zack that you ignore many hints in Rebirth that Zack himself accepts she has feelings for Cloud now. Zack takes it like a champ unlike you do.
If you think Cloud and Aerith are gross, then you wouldn’t love Squall and Rinoa, either. 🤭
