  • You heard many of these bands in this seven-album series on the South Florida airwaves of the non-commercial outlets of WVUM and WKPX, as well as WDNA -- before that station became an all-jazz outlet, broadcasting as a non-profit public access/variety station that aired many alternative music blocks. A few earned airplay on the "Locals Only" programming blocks of the mainstream/commercial radio rock outlets WZTA and WSHE in the early '90s, as well as on specialty show blocks at WAXY 790, around 1993 to 1994, when it was a brokered programming outlet.

This is posted in altruistic tribute to the local bands of South Florida that created the scene. All seven "compilation albums" in this series features back-to-back music only. There's no "DJing" or other production elements: it's not a "tape rip" of any show or shift associated with any radio station.
    * If you're wondering . . . why does Chickenbox get a credit, here? Well, Skull Park Jones, for the most part, relocated to Los Angeles and became Chickenbox (news to me!) and "Blame" was retitled to "Waiting." Also, look another song of theirs, "Worried," in this series. They'd make a point of calling in and thanking me for the spins; Phonetic Plumbing was good that way, too. (I wished I still had that SPJ CD and PP cassette: LOVED 'EM BOTH.)
** From his debut CD Harum Scarum. The other two popular songs from the release, "Not the Way" and the awesome "Gravybones," wouldn't you know: have them, but the tape recording ran out on both. However, you can look for the "Robbie Gennet Band" under "Playlists" to hear more of his works, as well as those missing songs. Robbie is a righteous dude: anytime I ran into him at a club, he'd take the time to sit down and talk local rock shop and musical ephemera (at the Coral Springs-defunct coffee house, New World Cafe, in particular, during a Chris Whitley gig).
*** Richard Pierce of Mind Mural: August 28, 1959 -- August 24, 2017. Rest in Peace, brother. Miss you and our weekend lunches at Flannigan's and Hooters.
