I love my all steel 10mm guns. That said i really like how polymer in cold and hot weather maintains a comfortable surface to grab when exposed to the elements.
Xdm would be my work horse trusted light never fails more rounds. Razor back would be my shoulder holster look classy easy day stroller gun. Heavy and less rounds
I've got a Springfield XDM Elite 4.5 inch 10 mm. It took me two years to find that gun at a gun shop. I put a 100 rounds through it a few days back. I couldn't ask for any better. I got mine to carry when I'm camping out and backpacking. I don't carry it to protect me from two-legged animals unless they're in the woods and the extra hairy. I'm all about practicality and care very little about anything flashy. I think the Springfield XDM Elite is the best practical carry handgun for what I need one for anyways. I'm probably going to lose my mind if I don't get some camping in this year. It's been almost 3 years. I'm hopeful though! I've spent a lot of money fon things for future events that sometimes happen and sometimes don't. Me and my dad and my brother planned a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina back in 1998. I bought a four-wheel drive extended cab truck so I would have something to get us out there. 2 weeks before time to go the trip got called off. I never went back. Finding people in this life that do more than talk is a rare thing.
When I was having some barrels made by KKM, for my Glock 20 Gen2 and my Glock 29SF Gen3, I was going with slightly longer than stock lengths, and in speaking to the people at KKM about barrel lengths for the 10mm, I was told by them that there's no significant increase that's going to gain you anything downrange from 4.5 to even 6", They said that beyond the stock Glock 20 barrel length, an ~10" barrel is where you start seeing anything significant enough in a velocity gain that will actually boost your energy/penetration, dependent on bullet type etc., on the target, enough to be worthwhile. I've never had a chronograph or a barrel longer than 6" for a 10mm to test that but hopefully KKM knows what they are talking about and provides accurate advice/info.
I'm under 30 and carried a Springfield 1911 when I served felony warrants when I felt like risking it all. Pachmeyer grips made it feel like a $3,000 pistol, because I think the LARGEST issue with cheaper models is the slick front/back straps. I like the concept of the XD in 10mm, but I had nothing with issues with a loaner XD in 9mm some years back. For a bear gun however, I would NEVER trust ANY of my 1911s, I'd stick with a Glock equipped with a standoff device so you don't have to worry about the gun being pushed out of battery when shoved into Yogi Bear's belly.
The XDM is a fine pistol, but it does not fit my hand well, nor do I find it pleasant to shoot. The Glock fits me better after I rework the grip, but the 1911 is pure kitty right out of the box.
Dan Wesson 1911’s are great for the price. Just be sure to follow their brake in instructions. 50 shots-clean-50shots-clean, I think they said for a total of 500 rounds.
Nothing you presented would change my mind to get that Razorback. Not a thing. XDM Elite 3.8 is a perfect woods gun. I'd go Alaskan .454 if I'm going lower capacity
@@lacrossed55 I either run Hornady handgun hunter or if I’m backpacking or ever in bear country I use buffalo bore 360 grain. What BB ammo jumped crimp for you? I’ve tested before on a Buffalo bore round I left in the cylinder for 10 shots and it never jumped crimp on me.
When you have the money. The price doesn’t mean a thang. But the best on tap. I’ll go with the XDM. To me. That gun mean’s business 💯. Every time I see you shoot it from your video’s Chuke. I want to buy 2 🫶🏿 4:02
Chuke i really like that Dan Wesson 😊, though with that one a first shot hit really counts. Actually first shot hit should count with any weapon lol 😮😊. Good one Chuke i vote carry them both 😊.
I'm a 1911 fan too but that's a pretty big price difference. The XDM 4.5" is kind of ugly though although the 3.8 version is OK, and yes I know that beauty is as beauty does.
Chuke, I'm curious as to if you have any experience firing a 10mm long gun, specifically a lever gun like maybe a 16" Trapper? I've been a big fan of the 10 mm caliber and specifically the Glock 20 since I got my first one in approximately 1994, still have it. And I also have a love of lever guns and specifically the Trapper sized and have several of those, aside from a 45-70, the others are 44 mags and 357 mag. Since I generally carry a 10mm in the woods and I live in the northernmost Sierra Nevada's, I've been really wanting a 10mm lever gun lately. There was a company or a guy who was converting Marlin .357 Magnum lever guns to 10mm.
I have a 10mm Springfield Ronin Elite & a 4th Gen Glock 20. So when I'm in bear country I take my Sig P365XL with a True Precision 4.3" barrel & 15 rounds of 147 gr. hard cast bullets in my Mag guts 12 rd. magazine.
If you really want a 1911 style in 10mm then you can't beat Dan Wesson. They turn out high quality reliable 1911s that are on par with any custom 1911 for a fraction of the price. I've been a fan and advocate for the HS2000 which was the XD before SA Inc saw a very good auto and snatched it up for import. For months of use and exposure out in the field, and given the reason for selecting 10mm is close quarters bear defense, then the XD gets the nod. FWIW> my HS2000 is over 24 years of use with zero problems but them I take great care in reloading.
For carry, I would have the grip safety on any 1911 or XD pistol pinned so that it is always disengaged. Poor grip due to injury (has happened in self defense situations) or just poor grip isn’t a time I want to pull a trigger and not have it fire.
Over the shoulder quick draw[ back holster] 1100 short barreldmod chock[ custom] 3 inch chamber xtended tube 9 round capacity with custom slugs from Taffledermause research inc.
Hands down Dan Wesson is the better 10mm. It's made with higher quality parts and better quality control, a better trigger, it's more accurate, has better 10mm recoil control due to the weight, has better resale value and IMHO looks a lot nicer.
@@liverpool6380 does CZ make a 10mm? I've been looking at the Tanfoglio duty line but the high end all metal tactical isn't offered in 10mm yet. They said it would be earlier at shot show 2024.
