Supercedure queens are the best in my opinion. I keep track on any colony where I know the bees have decided to replace the queen themselves. And given all the other considerations are equal - ie - can survive our winters, are well natured, and do like making honey, then those are the colonies I like to choose to breed from. Classic supercedure (textbook) is one queen cell in the centre of the frame but rarely are they textbook in my experience. The one I found today had several queen cells in different locations on different frames (often down the side of the frame) and all had a hole in the side. The new queen had got there first and destroyed the yet to emerge virgin queen. Honey making had not been interrupted - there are four full supers of spring honey above the queen excluder on that hive ready for me to take off.

Great video.. and right on time as my Queen is basically doing the same thing and i made a split off that colony a week ago, went into the split yesterday and have 9 Queen cells, 3 on one frame and 6 on another. I May just put one of those frames back into the original colony and take out that old Queen.

Can you do a video explaining your words like brood and drawn out for those who know nothing about bee keeping, like your speaking to a child.
