After the heat of last summer I’ve moved my bees under my apple trees and I’ve been wondering how they would get on in the shade 🤔 You having a shady apiary has cheered me up 😃 Another great video - I always put out bait boxes 👏👏🇬🇧
hello the 2 swarms i have caught have both superseded the queen with in 2 weeks of coming is this normal would this just be an old queen that has swarmed ?
Did you bother to give them any feed once you got them hived? I’ve a swarm collected today, not as big as yours but substantial. I’ve only got foundation, so I’m inclined to help them along a bit. Am I right to give em some syrup?
No you never feed a swarm straight away. They need to empty their stomachs and turn it into foundation. Can be a disease risk. Feed them after 7 days if needed.
Hi Lawrence, do you clip your queen's wings, a few Beekeepers up here in Aberdeenshire do, just wondered if it's just personal preference or something you do on swarm queen's?👍
Nice looking queen. Must have been a really big swarm, as it was a virgin do you think it was a cast swarm, or can a prime swarm have a virgin queen. Thanks so much.
Prime swarm can have a virgin. Prime is just the first one to leave. If the queen is clipped and they leave with the first virgin it's still a prime swarm. I'd say this was a cast though as some of the Prime swarms are BIG
Yes I struck something weird in my hive very strange I never had happen to me and that is a colony swarmed but the original Queen is still in the hive with very little bees , there were 4 queen cells and all opened naturally I’m not sure if this will survive the winter ❄️ not much hope for it , it’s hanging on by a thread I think.
I have about 7 or 8 different suits lying around. Some are kept in the back of the car in case I need to desperately catch a swarm. This is my BB wear ultra suit! Awesome 👌
Great shots of that black queen.
I got a swarm in my top bar hive.
The queen had that years mark.
Some poor sap had lost a store bought colony.
Wow! Im wanting to build a observation hive but my dad doesnt. It would have been a 2 super frame on top of each other

Compliments for your sound quality it has a good stable voice level
Glad you think so! :)
I've had to turn swarms away this year but I'm definitely trying this near my apiary. Thanks for the advice!
Catch and combine ;)
@@BlackMountainHoney The time would be nice!
I've been offered a site very similar to this, a lot of big hitters, hawthorn, lime etc. How are you finding it will low sunshine?
We are moving all colonies out from under the trees next year. Too many issues.

Derbyshire is swarming these past two weeks....
I caught my first with just two stings
Thanks for the video. What would you consider doing about grumpy/tetchy swarms caught ? Live with it ?
Requeen from known stock if required

Glad you enjoyed it :)

Laurence, do you have I different bee suit for each apiary or just when your catching swarms, also where is your suit from, great video

@@BlackMountainHoney they sure do look the part, out of my price range at minute though
Where did you get your bee suit from
Its the BB wear Ultra Suit
Looks like one of my queens. Pitch black and "juicy"
Um..
Bee honey top 👍
If you were to catch a wild swarm would you be treating for varroa and if so, what method of treatment? Cheers
Yes. I'd use OA sublimation before they start rearing brood
Interesting, but do more, talk less.
