Fun fact, lawn mower blades are designed to pull air upwards into the mower. The idea is that it stands the grass up for a better cut. If you flipped the blade over, would it create a noticeable amount of lift? It would probably be a little worse at cutting grass, but it'd be interesting. Maybe you could try 3D printing your own blade to reduce some weight too.
Flipping the blade wouldn't do anything as it'll have the same twist direction, However with another blade that acted as a pusher it'd disturb the center of lift.... probably, still worth a try, Call it the "F35 F".
It would spin the same way, also you would have to put a hole in the top of the mower so air can be pulled through
That’s what I thought!
the effect is negligible as there is no vacuum against the ground
Then, it wouldn't be a LAWNMOWER then huh, since it wouldn't effectively cut the grass
Take 4 lawnmowers, swap the blades for propellers and strap them together to make a terrifying quadcopter. Do some high octane hedge trimming.
How about a flying patch of grass, that can be mowed in midair by the flying lawnmower? 🤔
I like your way of thinking, Mister Tourneaux 🌈
i like this
Issue: once the lawnmower lands of the patch of grass, it will cause weight, and that will probably kick it out of the air and make it crash.
The challenge here sounds like a mid air landing strip challenge. Not only must 2 vehicles make contact without crashing, but one of them needs to have the thrust to carry itself and the second aircraft.
@@bungeetoons multicopter for the flying landing strip should be good
A prefect case study on how to make something already dangerous even more dangerous. Truly impressive.

If you can handle the weight, making pigs fly is easy, the challenge is how do you do it in a way that doesn't look like cheating. Afterall, cattle are often transported by air travel.

Finally I can cut my high weed
In the clouds
Good for trimming those hard-to-reach hedges.
...while high...in altitude, I mean...yeah, that's it...
"it's over aniken, I have the highweed"
Aniken: (insert flying lawnmower)
High weed is the easiest to cut, cause it just stands there. Sober weed ducks under the blades too fast.
This technology isn't grounbreaking.
It's groundskeeping.
Did having the blade running induce some yaw?
No noticeable effects!
As long as it's not accelerating or decelerating while in flight it shouldn't affect yaw
@@themacbookgamer should result in some pitch/roll coupling like any spinning mass in the yaw plane would.
@@themacbookgamer a spinning mass resists rotation in its other axis, which the plane was trying to roll and pitch. Im not sure im using the correct words but from what i understand it has to change how the plane would fly.
I imagine it affected pitch more.
The whole time it was flying with the mower blade running I was expecting a drone or something else to accidentally fly into the blade, so maybe build some sacrificial planes and do that?
Dude me too
I was gonna say this would be so cool to see in aerial combat, just lowering onto something else and pulverizing it.
Ok you beat me to it, I just commented the same thing and then went reading comments. 🙂
Take it to the next flitefest demolition derby.
There *WAS* a device back in the 60s or 70s called a "Flymo." It cut the lawn, but had no wheels! It ran in ground effect.
Thanks, Peter!!
That’s cool
The channel 'Hand Tool Rescue' has a great restoration video of a Flymo that ends in a light demo of it.

my neighbor at 8am on a weekend
Your neighbor is smart. Mowing when it is hot outside is hell. If you don't mind mowing in the day, maybe offer to do it for them for cheap so you can sleep in? or just learn to sleep through the small amount of extra noise.
@@zebraloverbridget my comment was for comedic purposes only in no way do i find this to be a real problem👍

"Taking lawn care to new heights" is just too perfect.
That’s the new slogan that will sell this thing to millions.

I thought of one use - prank-mowing mystery messages in a meadow, like crop circles.
I think you could actually make someone lose their mind like that.
"Honey wake up, theres a buzzing in the fields"
One of the bug bears of our club is keeping the strip mowed and no one like doing it as it interferes with their flying time, but with the flying lawnmower you can fly do touch and goes and mow the strip at the same time, problems solved, brilliant solution.
I’ve been doing UA-cam since 2009. I think this is the first time I can recall laughing out loud just reading the title in my notifications. 😂 You a strange one Peter Stripol, never change.
drop a like if you remember the original flying lawnmower video on youtube back in like 2006-2007 or so

Turn the props with the lawnmower engine!
Gotta admit I rewound a dozen times to check whether he was using engine, or electric via an engine driven generator, or straight battery. I call foul and demand a reengineering using mechanical or electromechanical subsystem. 🤷♂️
This might actually be the scariest thing you've ever built. Which is impressive.

Plants vs Zombies lawn mowers be like:
Perfect for mowing those remote spots in the yard!
Most pilots would say altitude is your friend, on takeoff try to gain as much height as possible. It allows room to glide or recover
The cutout in the leading edge of the wing centre section is creating significant drag, and also disrupting airflow over the tail boom (reduced elevator authority). Try putting a simple fairing over the cutout to match the rest of the wing leading edge. Apart from reducing drag, it will result in cleaner laminar airflow over the wing. Have fun, and thanks for your content.
Just add a mullet and a speaker so when it crashes into Pewdie Pie's lawn in says in a thick country accent to them, "Hey boy Ima here ta mow yer lawn!"
I died laughing “please send more foam board now” you are a genius sir. Thank you for your wisdom.

I really missed those old good days when you build real Airplanes, wish we could get more of that type of content, Love you bro
Would it work as helecoptor lawnmower
You can feel the rush to get one last video before opensauce from everyone.
man, i remember WAY back, the sketch where they pretended they had to trim a spot on the grass runway, only to "trip and fall" as the "lawnmower" went flying away... ☺
Now that you've made a Lawn-Cutting Flying Lawn Mower, here's an idea:
How about a Lawn Mower that flies similar to how a Gyrocotper flies. Swap the Lawn Mower blade with a downward-facing prop for lift. Probably will change where the center of the wing ends up, but could also shrink the need for wing length.
Just an idea. good job, here, bud!
"We forgot to start the lawnmower blades!"
Translation: "We needed to make sure it wouldn't kill anyone without the blades spinning before we check to see if it will kill someone with the blades spinning..."
the world's least efficient automatic lawnmower: slapping some giant propellors on it and putting it on an automated flight course
positives: cool, funny looking
negatives: you have now strapped unguarded lawnmower blades to the front of your lawnmower
Alright, now we need a drone that has lawnmower blades for props.
@petersripol - I challenge you to make a helicopter like device that can safely lower a 180lb human from a skyscraper that's on fire. The device can also employ inflatable wings or a parachute to aid in increased drag. The idea is to have a backpack like device that a person can use to descend from lower heights where a parachute wouldn't be ideal but could also be used from taller heights too.

1960: people in 2024 will have flying cars

Cut open the top of the deck, replace the blade with a huge prop and make it VTOL.
Between reality and the art of aeromodelling nothing is impossible..well done great job
"Can thing with wings and props stuck to it actually FLY?"
Astoundingly, and contrary to no expectations, yes. Of course it fucking can.
You know it's a good day When PeterSripol uploads👍
This is kind-of a dream for anyone with a lawn mowing business. You just need to attach an FPV camera and you can cut your customers' grass from home. It's fly-in fly-out lawn mowing!
Thanks Peter for keeping the air trimmed nice and short
I can’t breathe lol
I feel as though the failure at 12 minutes was due to the rotation of the lawn blade. That kind of heavy object rotating at the center of gravity of a plane is bound to have some effect. Similar to a helicopter tail rotor. Or the ground resonance from a helicopter blade. They affect the gravity of the vehicle. Notice it is listing to the left before the blades stared. Then lists to the right when it is running, then stalls when he turns left (w blade running) There is a lot of inertia from the blade taking part in the flight logistics.
Fun video. ❤
If you look closely, you can see the gyroscopic precession of the running land mower, every time he wants to go up, the plane tilts in the direction of the spinning blade.
My suggested solution? Two land mowers and use the mother output of the land mowers to power the plane. DC moters feels like a cheat here
This gives me some ideas to help my little brother. He has a full service tree trimming business that requires him to often go 40 or 50 feet up into a tree in order to trim it back to prevent damage to buildings the tree is near, keep individual trees from getting their limbs intertwined with other trees, remove grapevines to prevent trees from being damaged, or sometimes the property owner just wants limbs/branches trimmed back for aesthetic reasons. Unfortunately my brother has a terrible fear of heights that he wasn't really aware of until after his father in law loaned him the money to start the business and some working capital. He is a very good pilot for fixed and rotary wing RC aircraft though and since we are both good at fabrication I think we can create a whole line of tree trimming equipment, chainsaws, reciprocating trimmers, rotary blade trimmers, etc... that mean he'll never have to climb a tree again and he'll still get to show his father in law he can run a successful business and pay back his loan. It really should be easy to do, our fabrication skills are so good I was able to fabricate this entire story while eating lunch in only 6 minutes.
Next you should make a flying grass patch to cut with the lawn mower
That was a great "touch and mow" lol
10:21 THE PINOUT OST THOOO
I have 2 suggestions.
1) Crash something else into the spinning blades as it's flying.
2) Convert the mower blades into downwards thrust and experiment with it.
Here is an idea: put a a GPS in it, and provide a lawn mowing service, run from a home office💪

Nice iterating up to the rudders. It really helped to demonstrate the difference between differential thrust for control and having rudders. Thanks for sharing this with us. :)
When you don't have a lawnmower and your lawn is looking a little too tall, just hit up Peter Sripol, and you can request a flyby with this lawnmower.
Been a while since I've been this excited to click a video.
Not only is it a Peter Sripol janky plane build video, it's about THE Flying Lawnmower.
Some poor motorist drives by and sees a flying lawn mower... Calls the sheriff to make sure... "What road are you driving on? Yeah, that checks out."
NEXT MUST DO! Construct a oversized radio transmitter that flies like any fixed wing aircraft but is controlled by holding a standard sized (40) RC airplane. One requirement would be that the pair can also be controlled/flown in the normal configuration, except your controller is the size of a .40 ARF. So in summary I'd like to see if you can "Fly a Radio Transmitter by holding a RC plane and manipulating its control surfaces somehow then land and swap places by flying the Plane this time by using the oversized transmitter that just landed. Fly plane with transmitter as we all would, fly the pattern, land now do the same but fly the transmitter with the plane...
My face when I’m getting rained on by sky grass: 🧐
Adding winglets would make the wing more aerodynamic.
Golden Wings RC model airplane club Belgium Bruges Damme had a flying lawnmower beginning of the 80’s. It was presented on airshows. We also had a flying iron, a whitch, some flying saucers, X-planes like in Steven Spielberg’s movies, a whole team of WW2 planes and some people who knew to turn this in a magnificent show with an exploding oil refinery. Sure, we had fun! I love your channel! Brings back memories! 😂

Now there is NO excuse for not having the airfield grass mowed :D
