    If I wanted a good outdoor boot - I'd be shopping at Meindl, Hanwag or Lowa. I would also consider Altberg, or Zamberlan, Asolo, La Sportiva or Scarpa.
    Those "outdoor" boots you suggested, would be my casual - Sunday boots. Far too good to get muddy and grimy 😉

    A very interesting concept is the basis of this video. I am old now and a Chelsea pull-on is very appealing. I normally wear Mephisto handmade (not custom-made) shoes.

    Excellent concept! I would say Carmina black Chelsea for dressy, Grant Stone crimson diesel for grab and go, and White’s MP for “workwear”, or Iron Ranger, or Grant Stone brass boot. The brass boot with the crepe sole is so comfortable.

    I was a career plumber/pipe fitter working largely in water reclamation plants for 32 years so I lack any semblance of fashion sense. Given that history I've warn a highly polished pair of Redwing 4473-2 with the zipper insert to everything requiring something above full casual mode. Yep. Can't take me anywhere.

    Maybe one of the better overviews of dressy boots I’ve seen. The starting-point is dress and boot isn’t something that naturally overlap. A boot for a dress has to be like these shown here: snug; tight-fitting, and with leather you can polish.
    PS. You need to start exploring English shoemakers.

    Loved the wardrobe changes in the opening. Very clever! I have White’s MP’s and Wolverine 1000 Mile cap toes. Love them. The White’s are just amazing boots. Had a terrible experience with Thursday boots. I’m leaning towards Allen Edmonds for a pair of dress boots. I’m a size 15D, so most of these other manufacturers aren’t an option for me. They just don’t offer boots in my size. You’re channel is awesome!

    Of these, I believe only White's MP, the Red Wing Moc Toe, and RM Wiliams' Craftsman come in narrow widths. That's assuming the 10875 work version of the Red Wing and the MP-last version of the MP. White's may have narrow 5050 lasts, but I haven't checked. For narrower-footers, Allen Edmonds and Alden make dress and casual boots. Truman also told me I can still reach out for B-width boots on their 79 last, though they'll have to be made, not shipped from stock. Nicks, Frank's, and JK will also do higher-budget casual options.

    I just ordered my first PNW boot on the White's MP on the cinnamon waxed on the 5050 last in June for the arch support. I've worn and abused my Alden 405's for over a decade and don't buy new stuff often, but always wanted a cap toe boot. 10 Brannock and the people at bakers recommended 9.5E since I don't want my toes smooshed. Looking forward to their arrival.

    2nd video of yours I have watched, enjoyed them both. My comment is that I have a pair of boots with soles that resemble the chelsea casual wedge soles. They seem to pick up oils and dirt and distribute it throughout the house. Don't wear them anymore.

  • @elyaquino2310
    @elyaquino2310 Рік тому

    Excellent selection, Teik. I think the type of leather plays a good part in choosing the purpose of the boot. A great example is the Grant Stone Diesel boot. You may go with a smooth CXL and get more formal footware, or go with a rough out or waxed suede and then have a more casual one within the same model.
    In my list, I would include the Alden Indy 405 in calf leather or a shell cordovan for a more formal occasion and another make-up in rough out with a wedge sole for a more adventurous journey.
    Thank you, Teik, for sharing your insights!

    Another quality video by Teik!! I have often thought about my collection of boots in the same manner, purpose built. Agree, why settle for a single boot to do it all when you have so much to choose from at different price points. Solid choices with sound reasoning.

    Whoa what!? Teik’s choices in Teik’s channel weren’t my picks! Unthinkable!
    But for real I think this is the perfect way to think about fashion advice! We all live essentially these three lives, just different proportions of them. My only comment is I think your bottom two tiers could be consolidated into beginner/budget-minded, and another tier added for high end MTO, RTW, and semi-bespoke since some serious boot nerds won’t blink an eye spending $900-2000 USD

    As a fellow Aussie, its super interesting to see how Chelsea boots are viewed here has gone both ways; they've more formal than usual, so can be worn with a suit, and they're more rugged than usual, so can be both heritage and contemporary workboots. Even across really different brands like Thursday and Carmina, they sometimes feel like a different genre of Chelseas from the various Australian ones

    • @Bootlosophy
      @Bootlosophy  11 місяців тому +1

      I think they are - then look at English Chelsea boots or Dealer boots for yet another genre.

    • @oliverross8633
      @oliverross8633 11 місяців тому

      @@Bootlosophy just had a look through them, that's so interesting! I think genre-wise at least for the Aussie ones it might partially be the gusset? It looks like almost all of them are wider at the top then taper, while outside that rectangles and wider bases seem more common? So between the double pull tabs and the gusset shape there's a sort of consistency even between say R.M Williams and Mongrel and Blue Steel's steel capped work chelseas

    Teik! I'm having a dilemma. I ordered some Grant Stone Diesels but am worried they're not quite the boot for me, as I want something that can seamlessly blur your categories #1 and #2 but that will live more in #2 as my wardrobe is very casual. I'm thinking of Viberg 2040s in CF Stead 'Whiskey Phoenix' waxed leather (dark brown), but I'm worried about the unstructured toe box on those collapsing. I haven't tried on either the 2040 or 2030 but like the idea of the 2040 because of the wider, more Munson -like last. However, I'm really confused about an unstructured toe on a boot so expensive. Teik (Tiek? Sorry if I misspelled), do you have any recommendations for guys with high insteps? I am a half size bigger than you, so I usually go for a 8.5, and the length is just right… but due to my instep having a slightly sharper upward angle, I often get tightness at the top of the toe box or around the laces. Looking at some Parkhursts.
    For reference, Jim Green African Rangers work out of the box in an 8.5, but I had an awful time finding Allen Edmonds Higgins Mills that work. I tried everything, from 8EEE to 8.5E to 9D. Nothing was really what I would call a good fit.

    sorry, the 'outdoor' boots are still not hiking boots, and nobody i know would ever hike in boots like this. hiking boots are a specific and very different category of footwear with an entirely different performance envelope, that these traditional boots could never touch. in the 50's, yes, today, absolutely not.
