  • The 'JRB Hitch Climbing Method' is demonstrated using the 'JRB Hitch Climbing System', but using a longer, telescoping pole, to advance the JRB Cinch, allowing a faster climb and less transfer / redirect operations to get to the intended location in the canopy.

    Wow this is awesome! Very helpful and the best thing is I don’t have to carie 25lbs of equipment to climb a tree to hunt. Thanks man can’t wait to learn more from you .

    Good demo! I think this is likely to be my go to method for trees without a preset. I have a pole exactly like that as well as a couple of shorter ones. Longer poles = less transfers, shorter poles = more transfers but more compact and portable. It's a tradeoff. Awesome the way that Cinch works for advancing up the tree and simple attachment/detachment.

    I’ve harvested two fabulous tools for bow hunting. I would need 4 arms to carry the pole the rope and my normal gear.

      @doncook3584 I wear everything including my platform and have both hands on my weapon when walking. See latest video:

    Arent we not supposed to use carabiners on our tethers? Side loading?

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  Рік тому +1

      I would not agree with that. A climbing rated carabiner is fine on a tether provided that it stays loaded along the major (lengthwise) axis, and doesn't come in contact with the tree. In this video, carabiners are used as a toggle, but that is not a Side load. Side loading is when a carabiner is pulled along its short side, exposing the gate to a non tensile load. If you believe you're at a risk of Side loading, use a carabiner with a "captive eye". I do recommend them and have a couple of options on the shopping list:

    Is this the 5-12' pole listed on your website?

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  2 роки тому

      Yes, that's the same one. Of course, this comment might last longer than it's availability and so I will try to keep options posted on the website.

    Why do you need to have both end set up. Why not just use the original end for the entire climb? Tie off some how with the tag end and then pull slack out through your 2 ascender hitched and move the loop up. Would be less stuff

      Absolutely, that works, but has limitations. 1. If ya want to be 20ft off the ground you need to bring a 20ft pole, long enough to do the hitch set around 26ft off the ground. 2. We are limited to trees with no branches. Sure, they are the easiest to climb, but they are the worst trees to hide in, offering no natural camouflage. And in some woods, there simply are zero trees with that profile. We want a system that works on any tree, whether its a telephone pole or has 20 branches and requires 4 moves. But if you are ok with the details and have a long enough pole, you can just use it as an SRT system.

    Curious.. regarding the Jrb cinch is there a reason for the ring instead of just something like a running Bolen.. I’m no arborist or professional climber so just asking

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  Рік тому

      A ring is more reliable in setting, and removal and not at risk of deformation during use. When retrieved remotely where the whole rope is riding through the ring, it's better from a frictional standpoint. I wouldn't recommend a bowline for this. I have done some testing with a very small Alpine Butterfly loop or simply a Girth Hitch formed in a larger loop. The latter is my preference.

    Jrb hitch. Jrb sinch. Jrb this, Jrb that. Why do we need to reinvent the wheel and call it a Jrb wheel?

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  2 роки тому +8

      Mat, i am inventing, not reinventing. It's important that everything has an unambiguous name so that it can be searched for and located. The names and details of my original knots were submitted to the International Guild of Knot Tyers to ensure they are unique. If you or anyone shows me a publication of one of my knots made before I published it, and it has a NAME, just let me know and I will credit the original author.
