  • Artist Cory Trépanier embarks on a 100km+ hiking journey for 2 weeks in the dramatic landscapes of Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island. Accompanied by his 19 year old daughter Sydney, he seeks to begin new paintings plein air for his internationally touring INTO THE ARCTIC Exhibition. One of the big goals during the hike is to find a view of Mount Asgard for a major new 9 to 10 foot wide painting.

    It is at the top of my bucket list to see Mount Thor and Asgard with my own eyes. What an incredible journey. Hope to do it myself someday. Great video.

      Thank you Caleb, hope you make it there some day! BTW, if you want to see more of Thor, I spent time painting in front of it in my "Into the Arctic 2" film : tinyurl.com/y5efwj5u.

    It's on my bucket list to get there some day .
    Who cares about Mt. Everest when this very pristine wilderness is out there ?
    Would love to photo musk oxen, polar bears and the northern lights.

    Oh my gosh, what an absolutely beautiful video. The planet continues to suprise me by its hidden beauty. The sapphire waters and the Bold mountains are gorgeous.
    I dont think I'll ever see enough arctic sunsets and sunrises

    Thanks for sharing. My friend and I watched your first journey on DVD at the Parks Canada office in Pangnirtung. We found it as we loitered around for 5 days after finishing Akshayuk Pass in July of 2018.

    Thank you for this video. I've longed to backpack along this exact trek. I only found it on google earth and it looks amazing. Those mountains and glaciers are wonderful and your art is beautiful!

    I really enjoyed this video, and despite the extreme remoteness, I really felt like the physical experience of your trip is something that I can relate to; is something that I could set out and do if I choose to.

    Beautiful adventure! I was under the impression that you needed a guide to backpack here? How real is the bear danger there? Definitely a bucket list trek for me!

      Thanks! Due to time of year, and the environment of the pass, polar bear encounters are very unlikely. However, it's the Arctic and, realistically, bears know no bounds. One must alway be vigilant in scanning the land far ahead, and camp appropriately (low scent, food away from tents, etc). The level of one's backcountry proficiency and comfort would dictate if travelling with a guide would be advisable. Not for first time hikers on their own!

    Magnificent - the name from Viking mythology is very fitting - and the Vikings actually visited this stark island!

    Great movie, really enjoyed it. l thought of going to Baffin Island at the end of the summer (with the wife), but the scenery is so similar to Scandinavia (after all, both are Arctic regions) and the flights SO expensive that we may pass. We'll see!

      Thank you Linda! Yes, our distributor is currently working on finding a home for "Into the Arctic: Awakening", the final film in my Arctic trilogy. Once that happens, we'll tell the world where they can watch :)

    I bet there's a good story on how your friend Billy managed to get a 30' Airstream trailer all the way up there.
    Only 2 seasons - Winter and Bug season.

    • @CoryTrepanier
      @CoryTrepanier  3 роки тому

      That's actually not Billy's Airstream, but another fellow from the community, so I did not get the full story. But yeah, that sure caught my attention when I saw it!!

      @@CoryTrepanier I've started painting since watching this, small things bigger every day I've tried this place twice now. It is weird but it calls me.

    Trepaniers, I'm one of those place name nerds who's very curious about how the national park is pronounced. I think I heard 3 syllables--eye-WE-tuck. Is that correct, or is there an 'uh' between 'eye' and 'we'? Also, how does this differ from the "nearby" town with nearly the same spelling, and otherwise known as Grise Fiord? Thanks/Merci.

    Makes me excited for the return of winter here! Saw his last exhibition and loved it. I think the film would be better if they didn't include all the glamor shots of his daughter, though. I mean, good for her -- she's pretty, but it didn't seem to fit the theme of the trip or film.

    • @CoryTrepanier
      @CoryTrepanier  5 років тому +7

      I should have mentioned on the opening of the story that the photo shoots were one of the goals on this journey as she's an aspiring model. It's a father/daughter story too: supporting each others passions :)

      We carried a small folding solar panel and battery by Goal Zero. Adds to the weight, but makes it all possible! We did get a stretch of over cast rainy weather though, and almost lost all power.

    Modelling session above the Arctic Circle? Now I can say I've seen it all. Sorry, but ridiculous.
