I live in Canada in the Alberta Rockies. Baffin Island amazes me on how untouched and remote it is. Most of those animals have never seen human life before. I am going to hike through those mountains someday. It will take a lot of money, mental strength and knowledge but I will get there someday.
@@sky_folk I bet it is man. It's really how all the mountains are named after vikings up there considering most of the mountains in the Canadian Arctic Circle are all Inuit names. As a Cree native places like this are special to me.
I saw the first photos of Baffin Island this week. THIS ISLAND IS BEAUTIFUL (at least in its most southern reaches) and would be an amazing place to vacation and or live in isolation!!!
Wow!!! I searched Baffin Islands because I came across those pictures, I never would have though that they were taken on this trip! This place is AMAZING! Thank you for sharing.
Oo yeah they are a very similar under the surface geologically I think and have had similar weather for a lot of earth's history I think (I'm guessing-ish). I can't wait to visit Scotland in '24 for this very reason.
I did this in July in the 80s from Pangnirtung to Summit Lake and back. I remember the ground in the valleys being covered with flowers so much so that it was impossible to walk without stepping on them. All in all a wonderful adventure.
Thats awesome! Summit lake area is heaven on earth. We go about a month after the flowers/green right when the season is switching over to winter, less bugs for the clients, but they do miss out a bit on the full range of colors.
Wow, I'm amazed. I had heard that Baffin Island is beautiful, but this is off the charts. I'll be visiting the Northwest Territories in a couple of weeks, but damn I'd like to see Nunavut one day.
I haven't been everywhere, but I'm confident Baffin Island is probably top 5 most beautiful places on earth. The fact that you have the entire place to yourself (although I recommend going with at least one other person and a sat phone for safety) is a huge bonus also. Its why I started going there after Iceland and Greenland both started getting overrun with tourism in the latter 2010's.
First video of yours that I’ve came across. I love the photography insight. Cinematography was excellent. Thanks for sharing your adventures sir. You have a subscriber in me
Amazing video! Thank you so very very much for sharing this gem from Baffin Island landscape in the Arctic! Wishing you all the very best always and please stay richly blessed and safe! Best regards from Sweden!
Thank you for this, Will! I’ve been dreaming of this exact journey for the last five years or so. What a gift to be brought along on your adventure. I know it was no small effort to bring this all together, so thank you again!
No problem! You have to go! We'll lead a photography adventure there next year if that's something you'd be interested in. Our price includes all the travel/logistics/lodging after you get yourself to Ottawa :)
Will Christiansen, You are basically hiking a path I might once have (or have not yet?!) traveled. Probably a long shot, but I’m interested. How can. I learn more about the trip?
Beautiful and stark. Can't wait to head up there! Thanks for the awesome video! You probably coulda cut your weight without the camera and associated lenses ;)
I came here after visiting ur wallpaper on Brave browser homepage, in homepage saw ur name in bottom left corner, visited ur site and navigated here amazing video to watch… grt job by you it’s too hot here now in India, but watching ur video feels cold
Looks like a harsh country that's reluctant to show its pretty side, all the while keeping you dangling with cloud play and a cold welcome. Will you did a phenomenal job in difficult conditions.
Thanks! Yeah, my longer form stuff (most video) doesn't fit into the Instagram model, so I'm trying to let people know that there is a lot of stuff to see over here. Thanks for watching and enjoying! :)
Found this video right now, I'm form Venezuela and had a Map and always had the curiosity of "what is that island" glad I can see it from video at least
Hey Will have watched this video several times over the past couple years. It is fantastic. We were booked for this hike last August but couldn’t go due to the pandemic. We are now booked for this late August but still waiting on Parks Canada to reopen Auyuittuq.
Heya, do you mean you are booked to go with Artur or that you're going on your own? Either way thats awesome! I hope the park opens for ya, weird it hasn't yet, its not like there are any people there :)
A truly amazing film, thank you for taking the time to publish a video about this amazing place. A lot of films focus on climbing(which is awesome) but as a photographer, I love to see it from another photographers perspective, I hope to one day make it out to the area before it changes (even) more due to climate change. Thank you again!
Ian Saucy thanks Ian! I’m actually headed back here tomorrow! Can’t wait to see the same place after a year of change. It’s changing pretty quick up there. You should plan a trip! Incredible shooting for photographers. Either Artur or I or both of us will probably be bringing photographers with us again next year.
@@sky_folk Does anyone even look into why the noon-day sun is now blinding white in color instead of the very much yellow color the noon-day sun had always been 25 + years ago. It's fascinating how people will disregard this the biggest news story of the century. I think people must be under a spell not allowing them to think about what a massive change in the suns color means. No word about it from any source yet the proof is repeatable everyday, no one speaks a word, I'm glad I'm not controlled and can see this change.
Great effort buddy. I kinda relate to your fondness towards such adventures. I myself have been explorer of alps here in India. The more you learn about the Himalayas, they tend to get more and more mysterious. Thanks to Brave i could find you. God Speed. Ciao.
Nice video, l enjoyed it. The wife and l are considering going after the summer and do a similar trip as yours. We're used to hiking in Scandinavia which is pretty much the same: cold and wet, above Arctic Circle (same latitud, too, check Tromso). My idea is to cross Baffin Island alone in winter, we'll see what life has in store for me. Regards from DC!
The Daily Bat thanks! Not a ton on this trip, we got attacked by an Arctic Fox on last year’s trip though. No polar bear sightings though. Lots of bunnies though. 😊
absolutely mind blowing. really in awe. thanks for capturing some of these moments. how does one go about going there? is there a large permit process to it all? and also random question, where did you get your beanie/hat? its very cool and i like the colors a lot!
oooo you're going to have a wonderful time :) we had to cancel this year because of the pandemic. best time slot is Aug 28th - Sep 15th, too early in the year and the water is too high, too much after sep 15 and it becomes winter pretty quickly.
I remember running across your image on reddit. I actually PMed you asking about your trip! I didnt know that you recorded a vlog. This is awesome! I'm currently torn between Nahanni, Tombstone, and Baffin Island. Such a difficult decision.
Colin Zwirner oh wow yeah you may be best of just doing it alphabetically ;) coincidentally we are taking a group of photographers to Baffin this year 😊
I actually looked into your trip, and if I wasn't a med student on a strict adventure budget I would totally sign up. Maybe in the future. Tombstone seems like the least expensive option since flying into Dawson can be sub-1k. Nahanni looks like a heli drop into the Cirque of unclimbables. Baffin... Well yeah. Ill have to start saving!
SO worth it. The cost of our trip seems high, and it is, it costs a ton to get to the island (several flights and a boats involved), but the cost includes all of your travel in Canada as well as lodging the night(s) before and after the island. I hope to see you one of these years :)
Wow, didn't realize that included all accommodations. And from Ottawa! I'm about a 6 hour drive from there. That is a fantastic price, all thing considered. Ill keep you guys in mind for when im out of school!
Heya, its a bit of a trek to get to Baffin! Fly to Ottawa, Canada on whatever airline, then fly First Air up to Qikiqtarjuaq (you'll make a few stops along the way on smaller and smaller aircraft). Your last runway will be dirt :P -- then you'll need to have an outfitter scheduled to take you on to Baffin. You'll need to stop in at the ranger station before heading over to Baffin to get your park tickets (its more so that the park can keep track of people entering and exiting the park and whether the need to go looking for someone as well as mandatory polar bear safety training). Best time of year is late august through mid september, any later and it gets ICE cold real fast and ealier the water in the streams is higher and more challenging to cross.
What month did you do this hike ? Im working in Nunavut and want do this Im asuming mid July to mid Aug would be the ultimate. Would think the cooler end of it because of bugs ?

1 minute in and it's just👌🏽
The last shot was such a great conclusion to the whole video! Thank you for such documentation!
@@MedoRaslan Thank you for watching! Wow I can't believe I didn't see this comment, sorry!

There really are only a handful of photographers that have explored it. Pretty tricky to get to.

I'm really enjoying this. from my Living room! warm, Dry.
Haha, well good. :)
Wow! The windswept, desolate scenery somehow reminds me of the Scottish highlands. Of course, much, much colder with much more jagged peaks.
