Actually, Valentina combines the piano solo version with the orchestral version in a number of spots like 8:46 to 9:40. It's pretty effective.

Honestly, as a younger guy with a rather… complicated relationship with the metal genre, I feel like this piece resonates with me because it embodies the sort of dark energy that I like in metal while avoiding the most obnoxious elements that are unfortunately all too common in it.

Compare this version with IGOR ROMA 's version in the Finale of the LISZT CONCOURS in 1996 in Utrecht, The Netherlands (of course he won FIRST PRIZE) :
      Unfortunately in 2 parts:

Once Liszt told a student who was playing the héroïque polonaise: "I don't care how fast you can play those octaves - I want to hear horses galopping menacingly".
Totentanz - death laughing and dancing in our face. At first it seems like he is dancing alone, but soon enough we join him without being conscious of it. And rather than being afraid, we will come to realise that without him we could not be.
    V. Lisitsa is a good pianist, but to my ears the only really inspired performance of this piece is that of Michelangeli. Cheers!

Ed Herold Don't be embarrassed. I love her solo version just as much as the orchestra version because it is as challenging. The amount of views and audience engagement of her solo version over the years has taken a life of it's own. Although I was so intrigued to actually see what the Orchestra version sounded like and a bigger blessing to see Val be apart of it.

This is sooo impressive! I personally think that if you look at the date of the concert and take in consideration the pianist's views and what was happening that time - which fully corresponds the topic and name of the piece being played - you will probably understand her emotions behind this rendition. My observation only, not trying to impose any point of view.

    • @s-dyorindyorin-s149
      @s-dyorindyorin-s149 3 роки тому +1

@@derickyyy Totentanz literally means "Dance of the deadmen", the concert is about a week after the start of military clashes in Eastern Ukraine between coup-d'etat government in Kiev with far-right views and pro-Russian rebels. Lisiza being a Russian from Ukraine publicly supported pro-Russian forces in social media and was even banned from some concert programs with North American orchestras for that. 7 years afterwards I personally believe that all parties involved in the conflict, including Kiev, Washington, Kremlin, EU, pro-Russian rebels and far-right Ukrainian nationalists were (and are) badasses and motherf*ckers, including the most involved US-politican and the now POTUS Joe Biden of course, but back that days of course all Russians supported the rebels.

Amazing though I still prefer the piano solo version due to the complicated passages.

She's basically playing the piano solo part with all the complicated passages but she adjusted it herself for orchestra like she in not playing the piano and orchestra version it is different!

actually playing chopin is easy, Liszt is a tiring job when you dont know how to play it.

Compare this version with IGOR ROMA 's version in the Finale of the LISZT CONCOURS in 1996 in Utrecht, The Netherlands (of course he won FIRST PRIZE) :
    Unfortunately in 2 parts:
    Part 1: ua-cam.com/video/i-Tc0btaNPw/v-deo.html
    Part 2: ua-cam.com/video/aW9657uqeDI/v-deo.html
Possibly one of the most intense and powerful versions.
Prove me wrong (He said jokingly) !
