I avoided nighttime for aaaages, until I experimented with going out at night to double my agility points. That's when I discovered nighttime wasn't so bad and I could easily avoid the volatiles with a little environmental awareness. That's how well done the first introduction to nighttime was!
Everyone told me the story (for DL1) was garbage, but I didn't get that. I feel like all the elements of the game pulled me in and I felt like I was truly there. Like the choices I made (the ones that should have been there but felt like they were there anyway because Crane made them) really seemed to impact myself rather than just the character I was playing. The choices in the second game I feel like are just different paths to take so I can get more out of the game. The first game had me feeling like I truly was Crane, he didn't feel like a character to me it actually felt like I was doing those things and that's what made the first game so amazing for me.

I don't blame Techland for making a change to a problem they saw. I still prefer DL1 night time though.
But isn't it great to have night time so terrifying, that it effects our gameplay decisions? To look after the time, plan around the sunset, and where the shelters are. Even if you're not going much at night, you have deep emotions and memories, you are immersed in the world, you see a mystery in it. And when you go out at night, it's absolutely unique and memorable. Take this away, people will go out at night as much as day, but will find nothing there. Really good video, especially appreciated the point about the build up and general tension around night time. I don't think being scared of the night is inherently a negative, really frightening when you're caught out at night with no safe zones around. The contrast between feeling powerful during the day and helpless and scared during the night is a great dynamic.
Best zombie game EVER. Such a great game, completely blew my mind. I was watching and waiting and when I finally got my hands on it, whew. Perfection. I spent a night in a bus once and it was nerve wracking but so awesome. The following blew me away, straight into outer space. I had the enhanced version too, with Hell raid and all the dlc's. Loved it.
The sewage chase sequence at 20:30, while terrifying by itself, also gives me PTSD from Carnage Doc Ock in Spiderman on the PS1 as the final boss chasing you through the underground tunnel. Scariest thing in my childhood and that has the same vibes and similar enough look 👀. Anyone else remember that or know what I'm talking about? If you don't then I REALLY recommend looking it up!

Open world FPS zombie/infected games weren't my cup of tea and this game did completely change my mind. It did grab me in the story, going out when was night gave me anxiety and adrenaline, at same time. Music on point. An open world that actually have a reason to exist. This is a great video,I've been playing the definitive edition on series X with all the dic constantly for couple of weeks, game has aged brilliantly and so much content, still got the following to do after I've finished the main story and bits and pieces
Bro, what an incredible video I didn't miss a second of it, I loved it, as a good DL fan I was surprised by everything you included... maybe you just need to include something that is very good for me and they are the "Workshop Maps" or "mods" too... what a crazy game for almost 10 years and it's still incredible I keep playing and getting friends to play and they all remain open-mouthed because of the graphics and the atmosphere of it... greetings from Argentina! (you have a new follower) haha
It should also be remembered that very recently DL2 received the famous "Dev tools" update which allows people to start creating mods for it and I already saw several maps coming and uffff... get ready
The first night was scary. But what rly made nighttime scary for an rly long time was not knowing if u can even fight back at all. If they are invincible we would have an problem. But not knowing means fear of fighting an losing battle if we are not fast enough.
Watching this has made me start to play at night, I recently bought dying light for the first time and have competed it, I’m still working on the following and love the car and the locations. Thank you for making this! I had such a scary and thrilling chase sequence running in old town 😂
Hi m8 was wandering if you could help me out with the four online trophy’s on dying light so I can get platinum would be awesome if so could you send me your ps4 profile name so I can friend invite cheers m8 😊
I bought DL this week and at first the night time scares me alot. But as time progressed and I've gotten used to the parkour aspect of the game, night-time has turned into fun running time for me. Sometimes I deliberately get seen by volatiles just to get that rush of running away from them, it's amazing.
I haven't played another game that nailed uneasiness at all times like Dying Light. The little ambient noises, explosions in the distance, screams of infected... It all made my skin crawl and I love it. Then add on the tension of nighttime play with volatiles. 😙 There's nothing quite like your first volatile chase. I love this game so much and how bleak everything is. Gotta go, I'm gonna put another replay under my belt again. 😅
This is one of my biggest gripes with DL2. The nights aren't scary. They've put Bounties in the game like "Be in a level 4 chase for 60 seconds" and the biggest challenge is actually getting it to level 4, which is when Volatiles finally show up. If you start to kill any virals that run after you, the rest might lose sight of you and the chase will be over. My second biggest must be the ragdoll. Zombies just aren't as prone to falling, and they'll hit an invisible wall when they're about to walk off rooftops. You can even see this with virals when they do their jump attack. They will glue onto any terrain, be unable to go over anything, and it's impossible for them to fall. Would've been really cool to see them jump for you on a rooftop and go crashing down to the streets below, but no. It just seemed like very lazy and safe programming.
It would kind of be an unfair comparison at moment bc something that you don't hear now is how much hell this game caught when it first come out I remember bc I was one of those day 1 ppl, this game has been tweaked for years and they still updated it not to long ago lol I'm curious what they all do with 2 seeing how they stick to their games they make

Fun fact about the night time it was so scary and difficult techland had to nerf the night a lot it used to be terrifying back then now,it is just very scary
I feel like the Be The Zombie mode is a concept that was a few balance changes from being great. All of the Night Hunter mechanics were great, playing against 4 maxed out survivors was ridiculous though
When I finally got to kill Rais I felt so amazed about the entire experience. The graphics were well for its time, and still are. The night is so eerie about how quite it is, and then there’s the one volitile behind you. Amazing game, and forever will be.

Okay you talked mad shit on Rais and it's all correct but those are all reasons why I love him. He's so over the top evil I get the impression he says things just cause it vaguely sounds deep and thought provoking. But nothing he really says makes any sense and I love it. Also Him shouting Cranes name as he carterizes his hand stump is one of my favorite scenes in gaming. :3
I liked the story buy main negative for me were big distances (second map were better because it was safe to use parkour than walking the streets which were the requirement in the original map) between missions which made side-quests a waste of time because of it (they weren't good anyway)
Currently playing DL2, and Im not in a camp that thinks its a bad game. I still love DL2 too, but definitely will play DL1 again after completing this.
I would say DL2 is a great game. Im on my second playthrough.. But original is definitely overall a better game with more soul. I think DL2 can be enjoyed much easier if you stop comparing it to original.
I love dying light. I have it my main original save on my xbox one. But have been addicted to the switch port for 20 bucks or less you get the base game and all the dlc which is tons. Btw what you said is spot on about night.
DL1 is hands down one of my all time favorite games, regardless of genre. It nailed so many things, but it's especially the fantastic ambiance that made exploring such a great experience, day or night.
the night time is what I'm most dissapointed about in the second game. Like u said, in the first game it ws so scary. hearing a volatile running towards yr *ss, hearing it behind u coming closer. It ws so scary yet so cool. And I rather sleep and skip the night time, back in the day. Now I'm sometimes goin out in the night. But in the second game, I just go outside in the night and it kinde feels the same as day, just darker.
you've motivated me to play the following, I played dying light back in 2015 (I was in grade 10 then) now Ive graduated university and dying light 2 was kind of a let down... This is a great video,I've been playing the definitive edition on series X with all the dic constantly for couple of weeks, game has aged brilliantly and so much content, still got the following to do after I've finished the main story and bits and pieces
I enjoyed every second of your video! Maybe because DL1 is a gem that can never be repeated!
I wish DL2 reach that one day...
DL1's first night traumatized me so bad that I actively avoid night in OTHER games.
11:22
So true😅
It took me literal years to be willing to go out at night in DL.
I love this game. There is nothing like the nighttime in DL1.
I remember watching the gamplay walk through when e3 was going on and it captivate hard with the zombie killing parkour
I finished the game for the first time, twelve hours ago. So fun.
It should also be remembered that very recently DL2 received the famous "Dev tools" update which allows people to start creating mods for it and I already saw several maps coming and uffff... get ready
I'm playing it rn for the first time. Just finished the pit mission. Loving this game
platform?
@@VortexSlayer_ switch. Game runs surprisingly good on it.
The first night was scary.
But what rly made nighttime scary for an rly long time
was not knowing if u can even fight back at all.
If they are invincible we would have an problem.
But not knowing means fear of fighting an losing battle if we are not fast enough.
Wish we had something like those air drops in dying light 2, opening one of those just felt so satisfying
excellent video!
Thank You for the great Work!
Thank you!
@@OniZombies, no, thank you!
@@karlpage7194 nah
Watching this has made me want to complete this game again for the 10th time this game holds a special place in my heart
OUTSTANDING Explanations! Keep up the great work!
I bought DL this week and at first the night time scares me alot. But as time progressed and I've gotten used to the parkour aspect of the game, night-time has turned into fun running time for me. Sometimes I deliberately get seen by volatiles just to get that rush of running away from them, it's amazing.
The one thing other than that quick time button bash boss fight , was the water animation, it was hard to see even tho the surface was clear 😢
Not gonna lie, the Volatiles scared me so badly that the first time I ever killed one was because I was flailing desperately out of fear
A día de hoy si lo dan
@@Holatt99 Yes
Now we need a comparison between the two games
I'm very much waiting for a review of Dying Light of a UA-camr who played Dying Light 2 first.
It would kind of be an unfair comparison at moment bc something that you don't hear now is how much hell this game caught when it first come out I remember bc I was one of those day 1 ppl, this game has been tweaked for years and they still updated it not to long ago lol I'm curious what they all do with 2 seeing how they stick to their games they make
@@solidrockofjesuschristmini2423 I played original first day it dropped. Sure they did a lot of work afterwards. But the things that made original great were 90% there from the first day. Cant say the same about DL2 even tho i enjoy it very much.
@@ConceptNull I enjoy dl2 except I've got nothing to do now and the events don't cut it, I have hope that dlc 2 will be game changing but I found out techland is focusing on another game so I'm not sure about future of dying light now
man back in the day when I don't have any other way to level up my parkour skills, i have to venture the night packed with A LOT OF FLARES and fFIRECRACKERS just to get those x2 exp in the night.
this game was so magical to me and the very first ever single story game that I've finished. i still play the game on steam PC cause i like playing with random players cause they suddenly drop/give you GODLIKE shotguns that have infinite ammo
Fun fact about the night time it was so scary and difficult techland had to nerf the night a lot it used to be terrifying back then now,it is just very scary
That Negan transition is great, thank you
Since I believe Crane turning is the true ending I hope we see him again and how he has been dealing with everything that happened
Been playing it since day 1. Still my favorite game of all time. It really needs a proper sequel.
Hopefully the next dlc for dl2
@@Gooby-Goofington DL2 is a total joke. I want a proper sequel to a masterpiece.
@@markohara5146 other than the story, dl2 is better than dl1, by far.
@@Gooby-Goofington Thats true, DL2 is much better than DL1
@@Gooby-Goofington Very funny.
I feel like the Be The Zombie mode is a concept that was a few balance changes from being great. All of the Night Hunter mechanics were great, playing against 4 maxed out survivors was ridiculous though
This is probably one of my favorite reviews ever ngl
It gets to a point where your trapped outside with the volatiles to the volatiles are trapped outside with you while you just grin and watch
the moment the shotgun touched my hands i never saw night time the same again
Even in late game once you have all the strongest weapons and guns. Night time is still scary in Dying Light.
When I finally got to kill Rais I felt so amazed about the entire experience. The graphics were well for its time, and still are. The night is so eerie about how quite it is, and then there’s the one volitile behind you. Amazing game, and forever will be.
Rais kinda reminds me of Andrew Ryan from bio shock
Am i the only one who goes to bed on daytime cause night time is so much better
I just started to play it last year and right now im starting to play The following DLC, great game.
Hi m8 was wandering if you could help me out with the four dying light online trophy’s I need to platinum game would be awesome could you send me your game profile so I can friend invite you cheers me 😊
Okay you talked mad shit on Rais and it's all correct but those are all reasons why I love him.
Dude when u talked about night time I got flash backs and I was panicking just from watchin the game play💀
Pro tip: if you skip the first night time cutscene the volatile's doesn't spot you
I love the night in Dying Light. Really well done
Currently playing DL2, and Im not in a camp that thinks its a bad game. I still love DL2 too, but definitely will play DL1 again after completing this.
You forgot the amazing intro cutscene, it really establishes a mysterious yet intriguing way to place you in the now dreadful harran.
night time. I'm pretty used to stealth, Love it
This game has always got a special place in my heart one of my absolute favorites🤟
The sequal however is kind of disappointing so I barely play it.
I would say DL2 is a great game. Im on my second playthrough.. But original is definitely overall a better game with more soul. I think DL2 can be enjoyed much easier if you stop comparing it to original.
17:38 i'm not sure i agree, Gazi is the best
I love dying light. I have it my main original save on my xbox one. But have been addicted to the switch port for 20 bucks or less you get the base game and all the dlc which is tons. Btw what you said is spot on about night.
Happiness is starting and playing Dying Light every year. One does not speedrun such a game. One simply enjoys every second of it.
the goon minding his own business:
me with my police rifle: Sensational.
DL1 is hands down one of my all time favorite games, regardless of genre. It nailed so many things, but it's especially the fantastic ambiance that made exploring such a great experience, day or night.
What I'd do to play this for the first time again
Dying light 1 is literally 100 times better than DL2
It took me almost a month to survive first night, I almost had given up playing this game. Now I only go out during nights whenever I start afresh.
the night time is what I'm most dissapointed about in the second game.
14:07 actually there is a skill called tik tac that makes it so you can end up wall running, not exactly like in dl2 but its really damn close
Playing at night was a very terrifying experience for me, yet the next night, i did not try to avoid going out then.
you've motivated me to play the following, I played dying light back in 2015 (I was in grade 10 then) now Ive graduated university and dying light 2 was kind of a let down... (or maybe im just getting old...) either way, I've never played the following though so thank you for motivating me to play this. it looks fun
