I very much appreciate that 1A Auto takes the time to make the DIY videos. I have referred to them many times and have bought parts from them as an appreciation. The parts came fast enough and were good parts. A lot of people commenting that they had funky stuff happening like other lights flashing instead of the turn signal. Check your grounds. 12v is crazy in how it tries to find a ground when the expected ground goes bad. I had a friend replace every part in his ignition and throttle body injection and the known good engine ran bad. Hold my beer and watch this. I took a jumper cable from the negative terminal and put it to the alternator bracket. The engine smoothed right out. He almost fainted. One engine ground had rusted apart and one was almost there. Learn from that. $500 later he sure did.

I truly appreciate your time in making the video. Not only was it appreciated but highly useful in changing out my multifunctional switch. Don't believe I could have done it without your video. Thank you very much..
WoooHooo. Just changed mine out W/O removing the steering wheel. The Torx25 on the face of the multi unit was the only tough one. Used the Torx bit w no driver and turned it with a 1/4" wrench. Thanks for the tutorial. 2 hours start to finish. Remember to move your electric seat all the way back b4 disconnecting the battery. I forgot & cost myself some unnecessary agony. Good luck with yours.
This repair doesn't require removing wheel you turn the wheel so 12 o'clock posnts between 7-8 o'clock and have perfect access to the obstructed bolt. To make it easier do this step before you remove the ignition
You can bypass pulling the steering wheel turning the steering wheel (top, 12 o'clock) to about the 8:00 position (drivers door). This will give you access to the torx bolt that is hidden by the steering wheel. I would still pull the fuse for the airbag since we're messing with the steering column wiring, just for the heck of it. Hope this helps.
I was looking this up, because I had a friend doing this repair and I am amazed that a auto would be designed in such a way, that makes it hard to repair Thanks for sharing

@@sajen23 did you get around to it yet? If your turn signals and wipers, cruise etc. works and it's just your hazard lights not working you can replace just the hazard switch without doing the whole multifunction switch. You don't even have to remove the trim around the steering column. If you look down at the hazard switch you can see an area where you can stick in a small flat blade screwdriver and release the clip that is on the side of the hazard switch facing the front of the vehicle, you won't actually be able to see the clip but you just need to get a small screwdriver in there and make enough of a gap in there to pop it free then you can work the trim around enough to be able to pull the hazard switch all the way out without actually having to remove anything else. I got one from a junkyard but they have one on amazon too www.amazon.ca/Dorman-924-608-Hazard-Switch/dp/B003S15WQU The amazon one says it's not compatible with the gmt 400's but if you read the reviews it will work.

Great video but I have one question. Why do does the snap ring have to be removed and you didn't mention putting it back. I assume you put it back on but didn't cover doing so...
1996 Buick Riviera owner here, that switch looks EXACTLY like the one on my car although it never is shown to be an exact replacement. I think I am going to buy it and find out if the wires are different and if so I'll make them correct. There are 2 tiny 2 pin connectors that are in mine that come out from the end of the harness away from the lever that have nothing to do with the lever itself I will have to splice into the new harness but that is an easy fix. My right turning lamp lights up solid every time I hit the brakes, if I pull on the lever like I am just about to turn on the high beams it goes out. First I am going to disassemble and see if it just needs cleaned out. I'll find out what's going on inside first. I might even make a video as this appears to be a real problem no one has addressed or identified in the forums and these are discontinued since 2012.
Thanks so much for doing this, whatever they pay you it's not enough! I couldn't un clip the two wire over the column connector. I just cut the old harness and spliced in the new one.

Same here. I’m currently trying to take off the connections but they seem but o be stuck on. And the video they just slide right out. Any tips on how you got it
Is this what I should replace if my signals only work when I toggle the hazzard switch? Turn signal relay is fine and everything else works, but occasionally I have to toggle the hazzard switch for blinkers to work.
I have to change out my switch stick because my BRAKE LIGHTS dont work or dont light up when i step on the brake pedal. But every thing else works blinkers park lights emergency lights.but not the brake lights. I even changed out the brake switch at the pedal but wasn't the problem. So the stick is the problem i found out. Just wanted to put this problem out to yall if yall r having the same issue with the brake lights.👍✌
What if i changed the multifunctional switch and the relay for turn signals, but hazards stopped working? Only time hazards work is when i press the brakes with the hazard button up and holding it down the front right turns on only. Could it be wrong wiring or anything else?

Video was enough to tell me I don't want to do it, scared of electrical stuff amd moving around this many wires.. is not something I want to be doing. Going to look at a few more options..
I believe this video was also part of a video where they replaced the clockspring because when he puts it back together he never puts it back on but then tells us to remove the alignment pin off our new part.

+Elizabeth Chow There could be a few causes for that. If you are unsure what is causing the lights to not work we always recommend you have a trusted mechanic diagnose the issue. 1aauto.com
A common cause is a broken wire(yellow) in your steering column. It feeds the H/L beam . A new switch will fix this. Wire breaks from using the tilt steering frequently..
I have a 98 Silverado would this work the same with my truck? The problem with mine is when I push the switch down or up to turn the signals on nothing happens but my hazard lights work so would this fix it?
Awesome video man. My wiper washer spray is not working, looked at the fuse, could not find the relay on my 98 GMC Savana 1500 LE. I wonder if it could the switch. Its very hard to remove looking at this video.
Could this be causing my high beams not to work? I looked at the fuse and it looked burnt so i bought a new one. Still the same problem, only low beams work, not high beams.
i replaced this a while ago. but i got a "new" peice from a junkyard. now everytime i turn my left blinker, it flashes my highbeams. my running lights do not turn on and my dash light only turns on when i turn my blinker. would it be this multiswitch again or should i look elsewhere
Replaced the multifunction switch now my wipers wont work , wiper motor sounds like it’s working but they don’t move neither does the mist go off. Any help
Will this work for a 97 GMC JIMMY? Also, ever since the ignition was replaced, my cruise control & high beams don't work. When I turn on my headlights the hazard arrows stay on in the panel and the high beam indicator lite stays on, so I'm thinking the high beams are on all the time. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the video. I now have the confidence to replace my switch by myself and not pay a shop.
You don't actually have to remove the snap ring btw
Thanks, knowing whats coming helps when having to pull alart a donor vehicle in -14f as fast as possible
Will the “Turn Signal Stalk” aid my brake lights to work. I change the brake light switch already.
I'm curious as to if this vehicle has a lift of any kind and what size are those tires? Thanks
What if i changed the multifunctional switch and the relay for turn signals, but hazards stopped working? Only time hazards work is when i press the brakes with the hazard button up and holding it down the front right turns on only. Could it be wrong wiring or anything else?
What is that switch with the 2 blk/grn wire that it plugs into?
Great video I really need some help I’m trying to fit new steering housing on my Chevy Astro 95 and I have removed the old damaged one but fitting the new steering housing I don’t know how to get the cam turn signal switch through the new housing and the multifunction switch? Do you guys have a video or some tips on how to do it. Would really appreciate your help as I haven’t a clue how to do it and there’s no videos on UA-cam.
6 point 4mm. Yup. That works. I heard 6.4mm and I was like who has that size on random.
How do you remove the harness from the commectore under the dash
How would you know if the switch is still good??
Thank you Brother for posting

I'm very interested in possibility of changing the gasket on my 1992 Subaru Loyale wagon
Video was enough to tell me I don't want to do it, scared of electrical stuff amd moving around this many wires.. is not something I want to be doing. Going to look at a few more options..
Definitely helped me ,Thank you .Md ❤
Would this cause my tail lights to not work
+Azaria Peterson This could be a contributing factor but we don't have any way to diagnose through our site.
Was this the issue. Having the same problem
Changed bulbs and multi function switch and still my directional indicator (right) engages both right and left, thoughts?
WHAT IS / WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE SNAP RING FOR CLOCK SPRING IF YOU REMOVED IT AND DID NOT REPLACE IT ?
Brian Bartscher
I have the same question, what was the purpose of removing the snap ring?
I believe this video was also part of a video where they replaced the clockspring because when he puts it back together he never puts it back on but then tells us to remove the alignment pin off our new part.
@@roberteslick1546 Thank you that clearly need to edit that out... I did just buy the part from them and it just arrived in the mail and looks ok we will see how well this goes.... I also wish I had a pin out of both connectors to know what pin controls what contact maybe they could add this info as well to their video if they edit it
YOU FORGOT TO TELL PEOPLE TO PUT THE SNAP RING BACK ON THAT YOU REMOVED FROM THE CLOCKSPRING.
Is the Green connector next to the gear selector unnecessary on a manuel. Because I cant find this connection on my manual k3500 98
Will the multifunction switch cause a NO CONSTANT 12V to my brake relay under the hood? There also no power on the dark green wire or yellow wire at the main wire harness next to the column.
Not sure why GM didnt put a plug AT the switch LOL.
Stay gold.
Will this be the same for a 3500
+Life WithOrie The part in this video fits your application, and the install should be the same or similar. Buy this part on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Did it hard asf tho ion know how u got them pins out the way u did but I had to sneak in from the side pull them out and then it comes out
why do you have to remove the steering wheel got mine off fine without doing so
Would this be the same process for a 1997 gmc 3500?
+Wolfman Dan Yes, this should be the same if not extremely close to what is shown in this video. 1aauto.com
@@1AAuto thanks!
Just replaced mine and the left turn signal is stuck on...turns off when I hit the hazards but signals dont blink
Turns out it was set to left turn when installed,.reset it in there and works great. Thanks for the awesome video

You buried the lead!! That last connector, shown at 10:30, is the worst. Haven't released it yet.
Ty my guys!
I forgot to connect the small two wires. What is it responsible for those two small wires?
Ok what would cause both high and low beams not to work?
+Elizabeth Chow There could be a few causes for that. If you are unsure what is causing the lights to not work we always recommend you have a trusted mechanic diagnose the issue. 1aauto.com
A common cause is a broken wire(yellow) in your steering column. It feeds the H/L beam . A new switch will fix this. Wire breaks from using the tilt steering frequently..
I have that same issue. The daytime running lights work but when I turn the switch to turn the headlights on none of the headlights work.
I have a 98 Silverado would this work the same with my truck? The problem with mine is when I push the switch down or up to turn the signals on nothing happens but my hazard lights work so would this fix it?
I have the same problem. What did you do to fix it?
I just replaced my switch and didn't touch half the things you did nor did I need to remove the steering wheel. Took about 10 min
Awesome video man. My wiper washer spray is not working, looked at the fuse, could not find the relay on my 98 GMC Savana 1500 LE. I wonder if it could the switch. Its very hard to remove looking at this video.
its easy but the first thing is do not have power to the wiper motor and have you tested the wiper motor with power to make sure it works
Could this be causing my high beams not to work? I looked at the fuse and it looked burnt so i bought a new one. Still the same problem, only low beams work, not high beams.
Do you absolutely have to remove the steering wheel cuz it seems like a quite a bit of work for a $40 part
+Wyatt Yates Yes, you need to remove the steering wheel to complete this repair.
i replaced this a while ago. but i got a "new" peice from a junkyard. now everytime i turn my left blinker, it flashes my highbeams. my running lights do not turn on and my dash light only turns on when i turn my blinker. would it be this multiswitch again or should i look elsewhere
+TheFavess We are unable to diagnosis your vehicle, we do recommend taking it to a local mechanic. Thanks for checking us out!
My ignition cylinder pushed in the little rectangle where it goes in and now I can't put it in, what can I do?
Replaced the multifunction switch now my wipers wont work , wiper motor sounds like it’s working but they don’t move neither does the mist go off. Any help
Will this work for a 97 GMC JIMMY? Also, ever since the ignition was replaced, my cruise control & high beams don't work. When I turn on my headlights the hazard arrows stay on in the panel and the high beam indicator lite stays on, so I'm thinking the high beams are on all the time. Any suggestions?
+Carolyn Simpson The part shown in the video does fit your application. It should be the same or a similar procedure. Here is a link to them on our website. Hope this helps you out. www.1aauto.com/windshield-wiper%2c-high-beam%2c-hazard-light-switch/i/1azcc00007?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&Scoqc-h_N6Q
Well.. the snap ring removal seemed un needed. Th video also did not show this being reinstalled. I almost forgot it. No reason to remove it from what I see.
Does it matter which side goes on where
+Dyllan Romanik The full instructions are provided on the website listing.
My green arrows on the instrument panel that indicate signal turning are not visible even though the signals work and I can hear clicking. Is this anything to do with that? Thanks
No, those would be the lights inside the gauge cluster if the blinkers are actually working.
