You nailed it, JT. This group was inspired by the Jackson 5 and New Edition. In fact, the guy who produced New Edition's early hits, Maurice Starr, produced this song and many more for New Kids On the Block. There was a historic performance a few years back on TV where New Edition and New Kids On the Block performed together. Both groups are from Boston too, well, except for Johnny Gill who's from Washington, D.C.
Ever heard of the Bee gees ? Yeah, they were a boy band before the Jackson 5.
@@whitediver45 Was a toddler when Andy Gibb died of a heart attack i think? The Bee Gees didn't start until 1958. Groups like the Four Tops also inspired The Jackson Five, and they (The Four Tops) started in 1953. Tons of black & white groups who popped up between the 1940s and 50s. Frankie Lymon and the teenagers, The Rays, The Platters, The Skyliners, The Four Freshman, etc.
no cap, I'm black but I was vibing with this song at the time. I don't know you should smack, but smack somebody if you never even heard the name before 😂, they were the top group in the country for a couple of years.
They were produced and discovered by new editions manager. They grew up about 10 blocks from them in Boston.✊🏾

The started forming the group mid 80s, but their debut album wasn't til 88' with this song being one of the singles.
Their other album was 1990... haha the year Family Matters came out!!

I saw them last year with Salt N Pepa, En Vogue, and Rick Astley. They STILL rock this song. Had me in tears hearing it with my teens! Blockhead for life! Check out “Single”. They did it with Neyo but it’s after they got back together. Iconic New Kids On The Block song is “Hangin Tough”. Came out in 1989.
They were produced by Maurice Starr who also produced New Edition. They’ve got that soul/rnb vibe which of course I love. Jordan’s falsetto is the truth!
They were some singing ass white boys, no cap. The hood, back then, messed with them.
Dorchester was a weird hood. Very much a mix of black and white.
New Kids was the boy band that Backstreet Boys and NSYNC were modeled after, except they're all from around Boston. They were HUGE in the late 80's and early 90's. I loved Joe, the youngest that sang lead in this song. A lot of people said they were like a "white New Edition" when they came out.
The Pioneer of the "boy bands". These guys were hot back in the late 80s to mid 90s. All talented dudes, no doubt. I love all music and ain't gonna lie, being guy, I listened to their music. Took my wife and sisters last year to see them when they went on tour with salt N Pepa, En Vogue, and Rick Astley. Amazing show. Took my wife and sisters again just last week to go see them as they have Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff open the show up for them. Again, another amazing show. For being in their 50s they can still dance. You should listen to their new album called Kids. Some good tracks on there.

This song was their first hit. The taller kid singing is Donnie Wahlberg, he’s the older brother of Mark Wahlberg. He’s an actor when he isn’t touring with the group.

Me & my sister have mad STORIES about these guys. when they would come to town. My sister cursed Donnie’s brother Jimbo out because he was being an azz. Our friend was invited to Boston by them. I had a convo with Joe’s dad in a hotel lobby. Danny brother Brett gave us tickets for the next show. Those were fun times.

I am 48 and the first time I heard them was when I was 13, back in 1989 or so and I have been a fan ever since! I went to see them recently (yes, they still tour) in 2021 in Boston, where they are from... a phenomenal life trip! ALWAYS wanted to see them there and FINALLY did it with my best friend (at the time, we are no longer friends) we had been true "blockheads" since that time, we enjoyed their hayday and beyond! Donnie is my fave!
