Hey Brent, thanks for your time doing these! It’s a wonderful walk-through, you described everything clear as a bell which helped us just decide before going to our local John Deere to purchase. Extra special thanks from my brother Tommy who has mobility issues. The LT 155 served us well but it’s time for a new one, and we’re both especially pleased to learn this one can mulch at the push of a button! No more plugging the discharge with a mulching plate every fall, a BIG plus.

Just bought this mower from the John Deere Dealer here, delivery is April 15th !
Brent, you did not misspeak about the transaxle type on this mower, you nailed it exactly. I heard it the first time and went back to check. This video, plus seeing this mower in person at my local dealer here in NC made up my mind that this is the right model for my situation. Like others I wish they had added the electric PTO on this model but it isn't a deal breaker for me. Thanks again for your excellent videos on these JD tractors (I think I watched them all).
My dealer said to buy the S240 over the 220. My S240 with Kawasaki engine is really great.
Nothing wrong with going to the S240. They are both good mowers.
After looking at both models I decided the smaller size of the S220 was more appropriate for my needs.
Love the cut quality of the accel deep deck. Hard imagine them not giving you an electric pto though. I'd really consider this a good buy at this price point though.

I really like my s220 bought the grass bagger for it and makes mowing really easy. Hopefully will be buying 46" plow weights and chains for winter plowing.

@@WesternEquipment yea well worth getting only problem I have is can't find videos of s220 or s240 plowing snow only snow blowing...not sure if just to new that not many have bought plows for them.

It is still on some models, but not on this one.
Can you do a video on how to adjust/repair throttle control/cable? E100 always stays locked at choke/high throttle.

Is the frame on 200 series same as 100 series or upgraded? Still have when bushings or bearings?

I currently have a LA125 and looking to upgrade. Debating on the 240 or the 350. Which would you recommend
If it were me I would go with the X350. Larger frame, larger seat, more options.
Thank you for the thorough review, it was most helpful! One question: assuming the transmission is not abused, what is being sacrificed with the lighter-duty trans of the S220? If it's longevity, any rough estimate of the difference in total hours?
I would say it is definitely longevity but it is almost impossible to even give a rough estimate because we have seen these types of mowers with the same transmissions last for over 20+ years and some don't make it much past the warranty period. This all depends on how it is ran and what all it is having to cut and go through. I wish I could give you a better answer.

The only bad design is the gas tank. They have it angled back towards the bagger unit making it extremely difficult to fill. Not sure why it’s not just straight up!
I don’t really understand the RIO button? You have to press it every time you put your s220 in reverse ? Or only press it when you want to mow in reverse ?
Press and hold the button, begin reverse, and let go of the button...every time a reverse mow is needed. Its still very easy logic to figure out, and delete if if you have an enclosed yard with no children or animals running around. Not explaining how to do it though.

You only have to push it when you start to go in reverse. then you can release and keep driving in reverse.
Is that an hour meter on the dash, up top and centered?
Yes, it sure is!
I think you're wrong about the K46 transmission. It's TLT200. Same as a S100 series.

I’m kinda of confused at what the point of John Deere having this is because the s170 is cheaper and has a bigger mower deck
It is all about options for the customer.
The S220 looks like a huge step down from the S180
It is a smaller mower and in some ways could be a step down.

Briggs & stratton are trash..Kohler 7000 series or kawasaki are the only way to go..

LOL the only difference between the 100 series is the motor size....but they could not just name it the S190? Wow! Who runs these companies and makes these stupid decisions anyway?
The mowing deck is an upgrade in the 200 series over the 100. Also, the warranty is an upgrade.
That tractor is garbage. It will break in about 2 years. It will split in the frame. Believe what you want but it is solid trash. Also the transmission isn't serviceable by you

Interesting. In 9 years of sales experience I have never hear of the frames having issues on any of these mowers. Thanks for watching!
Funny. I had a 115 (so after the L100 but before they called them LA100 series). for 12 years. Frame never split, never rusted. The T40 (the transaxle at the time) was and is serviceable if removed from the tractor. I did it myself thanks to some quick tutorials on UA-cam itself. And the fresh fluid made a difference as well.
Do you have first hand experience with a 100 or 200 series from 2002+current? They obviously aren't no X700 tractor, but they are pretty good for an entry level or just above entry level tractor, so long as you aren't trying to do things that a bigger tractor should be doing.
@@WesternEquipment From my experience, those that break things on smaller units and complain its not strong enough are the same people that try to hang an 8ft6in V plow on a 1500 or try to 5th wheel tow with a 1500 and then cry and complain when the transmission blows up. Wrong tool (or in this case truck or tractor) for the job at hand.
