It's amazing how in a completely different space, none of the makeup, none of the costuming, all on her own, she still absolutely embodies the character. That isn't just a top tier singer, that is a top tier actress.
Yeah, it seemed to me that the soul of Grizabella just possessed her or something.
You really feel what Grizabella is feeling when the songs starts. Without Elaine, there would never have been Memory
At the risk of sounding incredibly snooty... Without Elaine; we would have gotten Judy Dench singing Memory since she was originally cast in the role, but she dropped out due to an injury she sustained during rehearsal. It's one of the reasons she was cast as Old Deuteronomy in the film.

I still don’t understand why they cast Judy Dench in the first place. Don’t get me wrong. I do like Judy Dench. But her singing is just ok, not great.

Elaine is just a UK national treasure! I get so tired of people trying to compare other female vocalist to her, and judging her by the voice alone. First of all, Elaine has a beautiful voice, and powerful when she wants to be...what makes her not only the original, but the best at this song is how she connects ALL of her being to this song, and commits to it. Voice, body, soul...she sings, and PERFORMS the emotions as well. Elaine OWNS this song forever! Same as Dame Judy Dench OWNS "Send in the Clowns"...yes, others sing that song better, but same as Elaine, Judy PERFORMS the song with voice, body, soul, and DICTION...the give the writer EXACTLY what he wanted the songs to represent. THEY OWN these songs forever!!!!

Her voice has always been unique and beautiful I remember watching cats for the first time it gave me chills and made me happy and I went too see it live in my country I was so happy and just stood on a balcony tho it wasn't her singing tho it was still beautiful and I have this on film..me and my grandmother would always watch this everytime at her house..
awesome is not the word for this , there must be another word invented surely. i sit back, listen, and think of my cats who have gone out at night and not come in until morning......then you understand this from the 'Old' cat's point of view. wonderful.

My goodness. What a treat this week has been for this 76 year old lady! I had my 6 & 9 year old grandchildren watch it with me. I needed to explain the story but they were fascinated by the dancing. They already love “Joseph” and know the words. They’ve seen parts of “Jesus Christ Superstar”. They are lifetime fans of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The song of Cats memory is traveling time and space.
She is the gold standard by which to judge the rest. Even performing on stage outside of the full show sans Grizabella costume she still embodies the character.
God I remember seeing this as a kid. On my primary school trip to London. We saw Cats and starlight express. She was incredible and I just remember my whole body got goosebumps. This song was my favourite….. I was only young but it gave me the feels.
Nobody sings this like Elaine. Her voice is so beautiful.

I’ve loved the is song since it hit, as a child not understanding what it meant. Something like a manifesto maybe, I feel this song more and more the older I get.
Nobody has ever done the CLIMAX better than Elaine Paige at Royal Albert Hall. Betty Buckley came close in the performance of the Musical but no this is the best.
Some songs make you cry for both extremes of the emotional spectrum from sadness to joy and all in-between- this is one of them.

I love Andrew Lloyd Webber and his first Cats Musical, the other Productions of Cats were good, the first Cats theatrical Musical set the pace for all the others.
I love Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats so much, I have, T.S.Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats and the VHS-DVD of the first Cats and the four Snow Globes of Cats and then in April-20-2005 at the Pechanga Theatre in Temecula,Calif.I had the privilege with my family of seeing one of the touring performances of Cats,
It was a surprise because there was some characters and songs from the first Cats and then there were new characters from T.S.Eliot and new songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Wow! I love this performance by Elaine Paige she sang memories just as if it was the first time she sang it,
