610 originally had a Baldwin single-chime whistle when it worked for the US army. Sadly, there’s no recordings of it. It’s on display at TVRM’s exhibition building in the US Army Railroad section. It did wear that whistle when it was first restored, but it was taken off after the first week due to the way it sounded. The whistle was very shrill and sounded like a Southern Railway West Country class Pacific’s whistle.
If and when 610 is restored to operating condition, I hope that it would be painted in its original US Army livery, to be a rolling memorial to all soldiers who served.
Great documentary! Definitely learned a few things about the 610 I hadn’t known before. For me, 610 was the first steam locomotive I ever got to see in operation. Anyways, great work on the video!
610 will return to service. No official statements have been made, so what I’m about to say is not backed by any publicly available sources, but here goes: - 630 has been removed from service due to a boiler issue. It will stay out of service indefinitely. When 4501 comes up for its next service, they’ll postpone it in favor of rebuilding 610 to operational order. Essentially, this will result of in 630 taking 610’s place, and vice versa. Like I said tho, it’s unclear when they’ll start this, but 4501’s 92 day is coming up soon, and that’s when I believe they’ll start it. Choose to believe me or don’t. I’m just blowing a whistle or two. 😗🎵
Not too bad with this one! 610 is definitely a favorite among most. Never say never when it comes to a beloved steam locomotive returning to operation. Great job!
I agree! I hope the engine will return to service at some point. After all, none of us expected 611, 4501, or Climax 9 on the Cass Scenic to be restored.
I hope you will not mind my asking, where did the vintage film around 6.00-6.25 come from, and is there any more of it? 3-Spot pulling the (then we believe green) 98 is quite a catch.
YO @Train Guru! :D If you ever do another episode of Steam Locomotive Profiles, mind doing one on Frisco 1522? Cause after all..... I would love to see you talk about My No. 1 Favorite Steam Locomotive. X3
@@TrainGuru You're welcome =3 Alrighty =3 And heh.... I think I know what that anniversary is: 20th anniversary of the last run of Frisco 1522's 2nd career. :) Right? :D (It's my best guess of course. ^^)
So what if you planning to do a Documentary about the 2 Ks-1’s 630 and 722. I’ve have posted rare footage and images of 722 on UA-cam anyone can use it
Thanks for the offer. If I do 630, that'll have to come in 2024. I already have 3 locomotives lined up for that year. But if I have the time, I can fit in 630.
That reminds me that I would love to see 610 with water tender triple heading the with Southern 630 and 4501 in the future. ua-cam.com/video/8F6A7SAj5Yo/v-deo.html
Very amazing video, Tennessee Valley #610 is almost one of my favorite 2-8-0s, and i didn't know that appear in movies, and in the movie at 12:46 was dubbed with CN #3254 old whistle?
Awesome work as always Luke. Glad to let you use some of my photos from the photo shoot in 2021!
No problem. Glad you liked the video Zane!

Good to know. Thanks for the info.
12:17 Glad to see that TVRM 610 was in Long Black Train
A minor issue: Norfolk Southern’s Steam Program ended in 1994, not 1999.
Yeah, that was a typo mistake. I knew the program ended in 1994, but I worded it too sound like it ended shortly before 4501’s retirement.
@@TrainGuru Oh okay, it’s all good.
I think this locomotive is very interesting to learn about. Thanks for sharing. LJL

This is my favorite steam locomotive

The first time I saw 610 was in “Super Steam Trains With Firefighter George”
And u missed that while talking about how many movies 610 was in

👍👍👍 I also just listened to long black train that it was featured in and…man these songs have no right to be THAT good LOL!
Fun fact I have my own series called Steam Locomotive History but it's a little bit different from this series so it's not a copycat of this
This engine appeared in a music video for Josh Turner's Long Black Train
I am making a model of 610 in HO scale, also the Bell is not mounted on the boiler it's mounted down below where the cow catcher is
I wish I could model.
I have heard that 610 will replace 630 when she goes down for her 1472. Then 630 will replace 4501 and so on.
Literally the Chattanooga Choo Choo

@@jimmyhook4852, it's the anniversary of her build. That is when all of my locomotive anniversaries are.
@@TrainGuru OH!
I was close though. ^^'
So I know this isn't the newest video but can the next one be about cn 3254
The last one for this year is actually CN 3254. I started audio work just the other day and editing began earlier today. Stay on the lookout!
610 did fill in for 1218 pulling NS Steam Excursions!
@Sebastian Floyd Agreed, bring 1551 from Ohio there too.
@Sebastian Floyd and NKP 759
Would number 610 be steamed again.
Maybe. There is some speculation that once 4501 is taken out of service, 610 will return.
What movies that 610 was in
The Adventures of Ociee Nash & The Lost Valentine.
So what if you planning to do a Documentary about the 2 Ks-1’s 630 and 722. I’ve have posted rare footage and images of 722 on UA-cam anyone can use it
I’m not trying to promote

What’s the song called at the 3:46 time stamp?
Riverwalk by iMovie.
I miss this engine as a kid it was the first locomotive I ever rode on back in the early 2000s
That reminds me that I would love to see 610 with water tender triple heading the with Southern 630 and 4501 in the future. ua-cam.com/video/8F6A7SAj5Yo/v-deo.html
Awesome video. Also since TRAINGUY was mentioned in this. Is that a sign of him returning to UA-cam???
Nope.
I actually was there before 610 was decommissioned
Hey have you seen 610?
Nope. I want to though.
Well. My Grandad have seen it in the 1980s
Very amazing video, Tennessee Valley #610 is almost one of my favorite 2-8-0s, and i didn't know that appear in movies, and in the movie at 12:46 was dubbed with CN #3254 old whistle?
Yup. The Adventures of Ociee Nash had 610's whistle dubbed to be CN 3254.
@@TrainGuru yeah it's kinda weird to put the whistle of CN #3254 on #610, also can you do a documentary of CN #3254
Maybe I will... Hint, hint.
Eeh, its a meh engine, not really a big fan for USATC S160 engines, they look kinda out of place in my opinion.
I don’t like the look of the engine before either, but I think it looked better when it was restored.
@@TrainGuru eh, i guess it did, still, 4501 and 6910 have even better looks.
