I worked for the Heber valley railroad from 1998-2002. I've been through that boiler and Firebox so many times, I still remember what they look like inside. When your the skinniest person there at that time, you get into a lot of small spaces. I was even a fireman for the railroad. It was still coal burning loco at that moment.
What a saga! As an aside, it seems odd, from today's standpoint, how often Union Pacific shopped Baldwin in the first two decades of the twentieth century. They were a long way from the Alco road that they became.
Great video you got here. Really hoping she can come back to service, I know it’s rough with only a few members in the shops though. Also, she looks really pretty in the pic at 2:34.
I have an idea for steam locomotive profiles maybe you could cover Chicago and northwestern 1385 since it has a lot of history and is an excursion star.
@@TrainGuru Nice! Do you have any idea why they’re doing a conversion to oil? Instead of keeping her coal burning? To keep setting the trackside on fire? Will go back and watch the whole video
@@TrainGuru Will you do a video on for 3985 when she comes back in the service? I know earlier this year that the Union Pacific donated her to a group in Illinois that is going to do her heavy overhaul that is due
@@dainallison4275 No. it should be stated, work is slow, but not at a stop. At least not reportedly. It all has to do with donations and available man hours, as oil conversions are a tad more expensive than the average restoration
Also, ticket sales help fund their projects. It’s great that the Heber Valley railroad has a lot of cars for more passengers, a lot of staff (including who seem to be high school students), and a wide variety of special themed trains. The more ticket sales, the more money can go to 618.
Super happy I was able to help so much! It's awesome to have another wonderful documentary on my beloved 618
Awesome work Luke!
Thanks!
I would like to see you doing a steam locomotive profile on Santa Fe 1316. That’s my favorite steam locomotive.
Maybe… there isn’t enough history to the engine. Maybe if I need to fill a schedule, I’ll add her.
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
Very impressive video! I sure can't wait to see her back in action.
Update: I went to the HVR in august and 618 has about 2-3 years left before she will (hopefully) run again!
Thank you for the update!

I love UP #618! What a beauty.
What a saga!

Agree. Those two overhauls really bought the engine a lot of time.
I know of the " Heber creeper line" because of Toyman Television. This is a wonderful history of the locomotive!
Thank you!
Happy birthday Union Pacific 618

Very nice
Awesome work👏👏👏
13:40 Union Pacific 2-8-0 Locomotive 618
This is exactly why you should never overlook a little engine like 618
New sub ! Liked 🙏😉😎😎👍

Maybe I will… hint, hint.
618's sister the 616 is on display at my local park.
Could you cover Copper Range 29 and/or Chicago and North Western 175 at some point?
At some point, yes. But right now, no.
It's almost the end of 2023 I don't know if she's gonna return soon
She’s probably not going to. At this rate, she’ll be in the shops for another decade.
@@TrainGuruPossibly she’ll be back into service sooner than in a decade.

LOL.
Are you going to do Milwaukee road 1331 or/and wabash 534
Definitely not 534 until the engine has been restored and runs excursions, but 1331 doesn't exist...
@@TrainGuru he means MILW 261
@@MiddletownBranchProd., I absolutely have 261 planned.
What is your favorite of the Texas State Railroad Steam Stars?
Tremont & Gulf 30.
8:04 does anybody know what locomotive this is?
Rayonier No. 110.
@@TrainGuru o ok thanks
Did you you use I Movie 🎥 or Final Cut Pro
This will be my last episode of Steam Locomotive Profiles with iMovie. After my McCloud Railroads documentary is done, I will switch to Final Cut Pro.
@@TrainGuru ok
Why do I feel like you’re planning on making a documentary for Southern Pacific 1744, considering you mentioned that a couple of times in this video?
I don't plan on making a documentary about 1744 for a very long time. It was just pure coincidence.
@@TrainGuru Aw.
Could you sometime make a documentary on Any SP steam engine other than 4449?
@@sp786fanboy9 maybe I will… hint.
Ok. But what about 75? Is she being worked also? Or are they gonna focus on 75 when 618 is done?
They’ll work on 75 when 618 is done.

Maybe I will…
I am a big fan of steam trains I like that video
Any idea when the 618 supposed to be back in service?
In the video, I said 2022-2023.
@@TrainGuru Nice! Do you have any idea why they’re doing a conversion to oil? Instead of keeping her coal burning? To keep setting the trackside on fire? Will go back and watch the whole video
So as far as I know, they’re converting her to oil to reduce fire risk and to spend less on coal.
@@TrainGuru Will you do a video on for 3985 when she comes back in the service? I know earlier this year that the Union Pacific donated her to a group in Illinois that is going to do her heavy overhaul that is due
Absolutely! I will do 3985.
She’s still on hiatus
Have they stopped working on the 618?

Hey
Hello!

618 is not a rust😡bucket
Never was, never will. Hopefully she will get restored sooner than later though.
