I will say for these that a lot of parents were really grateful for the console versions. There were horror stories about kids running up massive bills on their parents phones accounts (and worse with scams etc.) but the kids loved the games. You could run it on a console that was never connected to the internet. Particularly with angry birds because it was so huge, parents that felt unsure about letting their kids have unfettered access to mobile phones (understandably) but their kids felt like it was really unfair because all their friends were on it could play. The price point was predatory for that, but all the same a lot of kids got a safe compromise so they could talk to their friends about the bird game and many parents got an option that felt safer to them - their kids playing the game on a big screen in the family room where they could be monitored and without access to predatory microtransactions or scams associated with the game online elsewhere on a less monitor-able device.
14:56 Part Time UFO is great though! Even though it’s originally a mobile game it feels like it was made for consoles. It makes me wonder why HAL didn’t release it on consoles to begin with.

@@mxjuno1998 Same here. It made me feel like such a big brain to adapt to the different types of maps (I still have a love-hate relationship with the pool party parts)
On the other hand, given the absolute state of game preservation for things like mobile games or java/flash games etc. in general given that they can just be yanked offline suddenly, without warning and forever, it's nice to have some kind of proper release that is playable even when the original game's servers go down for good.
I love how now the GTA definitive editions on PC are literally just ports of the mobile versions, with "enhanced graphics" that arguably look worse just with higher resolution, on the same system that can just run the original.
BRO THE CUT THE ROPE ANIMATIONS OH MY GOD I remember loving those when i was 7, they straight up made an entire cartoon with the little monster and last time i checked (2019, i revisited them) it has like 10 seasons and its actually a pretty good cartoon especially considering its based on a mobile game I have to revisit those again, so nostalgic.

The Room was a really great mobile series. I've never seen anything else match its quality. They also came out with a VR entry that is pretty impressive as well.
Gameloft did had one game I really enjoyed and that was a Medieval jousting game. You pretty much tapped your horse, then aim your lance at whatever point the game told you to. You upgraded your horse to build up faster speed, and upgraded your lance to be more accurate since it would move around as you tried to aim it. It would be nice to see at least an indie game that did jousting as a game.

Is funny how Pyoro, in WarioWare Inc. predates all bird based mobile games, and is pretty much as deep as those. In universe is a smash hit since the first game.
Speaking of: someone made a Pyoro game for the TI-83/84 calculators and it was easily the most technically advanced game for the "system." (Ignoring modern versions with colored screens and wifi.) It featured gray scale from the black and white screen by flashing the pixels at different rates for the shades. But, craziest of all, it featured music from the 2.5mm jack built for transferring data between calculators. While technically the same jack as old phones used for headphones, it was never intended to output audio on the calculator. And yet, they did it.
And the fact that Pyoro got its own standalone game, albeit digitally, that's saying something for a game that's just a simple high score endurance and nothing more.

I loved the angry birds games on the Nintendo consoles
"Oh, my God, a new corn!?" is going to be my new go-to phrase whenever a new Fifa, COD, or NBA game comes out.
For switch maybe, that game doesn't seem to be that good for a stationary console
I could see it being a success on steam if marketed as a cheaper casual game to sink hours into

Scott, I watched this video while recovering from a migraine and it made me feel better. Thank you. I love you.
Part Time UFO is definitely an exception to this video though, the console port was amazing and added so much to the original and took away nothing
Yeah that nearly discredited his entire argument, GOTY 2018/20 for sure😔🛸
There are exceptions that make the rule.
The fact that part time ufo was a mobile game was always weird. It feels like one of those nintendo eshoo games with a cheaper and simpler (like snipperclips) but it actually realesed on mobile first and it's controls don't adapt the greatest for mobile, you know you f*cked up when you iphone game uses virtual bottons for controlling the character

Im glad PvZ DS exists, the music, even though it uses sound fonts, actually sounds better than on the original game , not to mention download play with friends was great
Issue with the DS version is that it lacks the most features, has worse graphics (somehow) and has awful frame rate (that game was optimized by a monkey for all platforms)
Yeah my nostalgia for that game is sky high
@@mxjuno1998 Same here. It made me feel like such a big brain to adapt to the different types of maps (I still have a love-hate relationship with the pool party parts)

@@ZeeLyie Essentially just single sounds that you can copy and paste without any sort of modification, so just a glorified midi
On the other hand, given the absolute state of game preservation for things like mobile games or java/flash games etc. in general given that they can just be yanked offline suddenly, without warning and forever, it's nice to have some kind of proper release that is playable even when the original game's servers go down for good.
There are still apks for download online

Gotta love how Scott took the time to clean out his game room for a 10 second joke at the beginning. I know everyone says it, but it really is incredible dedication for a quick gag.
you know, I have a theory this was just convenient timing and he might have been moving to a new place.
not that it matters either way but I think it's too convenient he emptied out his entire house for a 3 second gag. Those shelves are ALOT of work alone, I should know.

Probably the most positive thing about ports like these is that when the original is taken off the App Store, there’s at least another way to play them (though I wish some of them were easier to get I.e the chaos rings collection)
Case in point: Angry Birds
I totally agree, I own the original angry birds on pc somewhere and I’m really glad about that because you can’t get it anymore otherwise, and it’s a surviving copy that can’t be deleted.

Speaking of: someone made a Pyoro game for the TI-83/84 calculators and it was easily the most technically advanced game for the "system." (Ignoring modern versions with colored screens and wifi.)
It featured gray scale from the black and white screen by flashing the pixels at different rates for the shades. But, craziest of all, it featured music from the 2.5mm jack built for transferring data between calculators. While technically the same jack as old phones used for headphones, it was never intended to output audio on the calculator. And yet, they did it.
as soon as angry birds became a hit someone at nintendo must’ve yelled I TOLD YOU
And the fact that Pyoro got its own standalone game, albeit digitally, that's saying something for a game that's just a simple high score endurance and nothing more.
