Back when I was around 6 or 7 years old, I vividly remember sitting in an airport with my family. Being bored as we were waiting for our flight to begin boarding, I started playing on my DSi. Looking around, I noticed a girl in the row of seats front of us who was also on her DSi, specifically pictochat. So I did what any other 7 year old would do and I joined the pictochat server that she was on. I messaged her a simple “hi!” And noticed that she was visibly startled (looking back at the situation perhaps she didn’t know what the app was intended for…) I messaged again, saying “look behind you! :-)” and her head darted back, she looked me directly in the eyes and quickly turned back around. Urgently, she poked her mom on the shoulder. Pointing at me, she whispered something to her mother. Soon after that, her parents began gathering their bags. They got up and moved to seating that was farther away… I was just trying to make an airport friend :’)
Scott missed out on the best title to hit the DSiShop, Petit Computer. It was a game making focused programming app and communities formed to share games people made. I spent hundreds of hours both making and playing games on that. One person even ported Mega Man 2 to it!
Flipnote Studio was one of the best things to ever come out of the DSi. I was never artistic enough to learn how to draw or animate anything but I absolutely loved going on Hatena and seeing stuff like stick fights, memes, music animations, etc. Before UA-cam, that was what truly introduced me to internet culture. There’s currently a fan server of Hatena running that you can access on the DSi still. Animations have gotten way more visually impressive since then, I just wish it had the same vibe as it did back then.
I still remember Flipnote Hatena very vividly. That app singlehandedly introduced me to meme culture when I was 10 years old. I made a lot of good memories with that service. :)

Oh my god someone has finally acknowledged the LoZ Four Swords Anniversary DSi game with the Rupee Wraith, whose noise would immediately spark nausea and fear to the point I turned the DSi off and threw it. Kinda wild to think they'd do a paid handheld multiplayer LoZ game on the next handheld console, often wonder if maybe the statistics for the anniversary download may have prompted it?
When I saw Scott's new wall, because I was so used to the old one, I thought my internet was messy, but damn I love the new set... Almost as much as Mario Clock.
Flipnote was everything to me! I made so many animations and I made friends who helped me get into art and drawing Also it's amazing what some people can make on the app!
Flipnote was amazing. I would spend hours every day flipping through pages of new flipnotes. There were some amazing animators on there. I actually had a close friend who made it to the top 10 a couple of times regularly adapting the chain email "things to do at Walmart." Started a trend with that and then tried to use it to start animating. I never really got good with the tools, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.
6:13 - 6:17 This scene may look like a joke to most people, but you see, with the release of Warioware: Get It Together, it's clear that Nintendo's trying to send a message with the titles here Seeing Scott talk about Flipnote Studio feels awesome (He's talked about it before but still) The flashback drawings at 4:26 were really cute, Scott has had his own small little drawings in videos before, but he's actually telling a story with his drawings here; it'd be cool to see Scott draw more, even if it was only for short scenes
Do you prefer the freeware translation (you should because it's better) or the Nicalis translation? The artstyle of the freeware version is better too.
Oh man I remember Minis March Again. I got countless hours out of that game, and quite frankly it soured my expectations for other dsiware. The Airace dsi games were pretty damn great though, as well as the anniversary Zelda: Four Swords release. Man those games were great.
@@lukasdabushman7009 Oh no I wasn’t responding to that, there was some dude who said some weird shit like someone’s Mom and “anti-science” or whatever but the comment is gone now
I hope they stay too, they look great. It helps that they aren't just black and white, they have a background which helps them stand out more from other animated stills. It's good to see Scott's videos evolving...
Flipnote and the online version were unbelievably good, such a simple but effective animation software has never been so wide spread, also it has the best store theme fight me
DSiWare is very dear to me. I bought so many games and I absolutely loved them. Sad fact: If you try to transfer DSiWare from a DSi to a 3DS, your save file is lost. That's why I never did that. All my DSiWare still lives on my DSi XL.
The old Rytmik programs were some of the best DSiWare titles, even evolving into the more popular modern Rytmik Ultimate and Rytmik Studio which can both be purchased easily on Steam. The fact that the OG Rytmik DSiWare titles weren't even mentioned makes me think that my childhood was on an entirely different timeline.
I used Mario Clock as my alarm clock back when I was a student. (IIRC it still worked if you closed the DS, as long as the app was still running.) As a poor kid with a sleeping disability, it was basically all I had to work with. Also I may or may not have unironically developed a form of PTSD from the Mario 1 underwater theme.
Oh my god! Finally somebody talking about all of these old DSiWare titles! I used to have all of these! I was a nut for DSiWare stuff a long, long time ago.. This has made me so very nostalgic! Thank you very much Scott!
Two words. Petit Computer. That was my Flipnote Studio. Petit Computer was easily one of the best DSiWare applications ever made and was the most powerful game creation tool available on the system. It's where I really got my start as a game developer and some of the things others made for it are insane. One guy made a near-perfect remake of Mega Man 2 for it. All you had to do to download it was scan about a hundred QR codes, but it was worth it!
4:27 I think its really cool that Scott is getting back into drawing and then using it to put cute small animations in the videos, its super rad and I hope it keeps going!
i like scott's humor a lot but i just normally dont laugh at things i'm watching. "like any of us spent a day in spotto's shoes" had me choking on linguine
I feel like that short clip of Scott saluting should definitely be clipped. Maybe one day I'll actually go through each episode and make out-of-context clips so everyone can enjoy them.
I bought Mario Clock because I got quarantined in college and I forgot my phone charger. I needed an alarm to get up for zoom class and all I had was my 3ds. Literally a life saver.
13:48 yes, he's talking about _it!_ Fun fact: the game was designed for DSi's only, because the outer camera on the top side combined with the timer and setting it down could actually create a photo. On a 3ds (or 2ds') the outer camera is _not_ on the top side. Either that, or I was used used to playing on a new 2ds xl. Also, the (regular) 2ds doesn't even _have_ a way to sit it down, excluding siting it face down/up. So, unless you have some sort of miracle stand, you need a second person. That's why I took photos of Pepsi, the default fighters in the trailer, and anything _but_ what you were supposed to do. Also, a year later: If you want an updated version of flipnote, just get a nintendo account, go to one of the games' websites, and do these things where you find items and if you get them all you get points. Do them until you have 200 points (there's like 7 and they give you 100 points) and then redeem the flipnote 3d code. Or you could spend them on themes and the twilight princess picross.
I loved DSiWare Shout out to Zenonia for being a whole super cool action RPG with a day night cycle, cute character designs, some pretty great writing (especially when it dips into humor), and fun combat. Love it to bits.
some Zenonia titles are available on the Play St0re, some were only on DSi Ware, just the first three or four, I think but with the DSi store getting closed, I never got around to playing later titles, I did at least pick up the first one, quite a neat game for cheap, though I bought it on my 3DS, I never picked up a DSi or knew about its existence until after it was discontinued, I only bought a regular DS and stuck to it (and still have it and love it) long ago
I'm glad that Flipnote Studio Hatena is still around, albeit it's now a third-party run service aimed at recreating that service as well as serving as a backup for many old Flipnotes and it is accessible without modding your dsi

I can tell Scott doesn’t realize the lengths musicians would go for a tuner…
dsi ware raised me
How
Is this how you got your brain damage
@@mroguretxs9651what are you on about?
The only thing this episode needed was a compilation of Scott saying “I have a DSi loaded with DSiWare games!”
It would've been even better if this started another Chronicles series, though we just finished the "untitled Scott getting robbed" series...
I was kinda WAITING for itN
And also "you have scoliosis"
Flipnote Hatena trully was a life changing app for soooo many people. So many artists had some connection to it.
Scott: "Nintendo DS"
Subtitles: "Nintendo Diaz"
Hey, that must be Jorge's famous uncle that works at Nintendo.
So Batman has a family member working on Nintendo
6:13 i love your content so much because of these kind of puns and reactions, keep it going Scott you the boss
Cave Story and Shantae Risky’s Revenge were the king and queen of the DSi shop, they were fully fledged games for download
Nintendo: *makes an announcement that Wii U and 3DS E-Shops are closing*
Scott: 6:01
When I saw Scott's new wall, because I was so used to the old one, I thought my internet was messy, but damn I love the new set... Almost as much as Mario Clock.
Flipnote was everything to me! I made so many animations and I made friends who helped me get into art and drawing
Also it's amazing what some people can make on the app!
Thank you Scott. Without you I never would’ve know where the stage Hanenbow in smash comes from
X-scape gave me an introduction to vector based polygons and honestly that's an aesthetic I wish more games took advantage of.
With direction and magnitude!
YES
Most of the time “i” means “intelligent”…
On the DSi, it means “I don’t know why I was born…”
The whole time Scott was going through these games, all I could think was “they removed the entire GBA library for this!”
@@andytheawesome7592 same
Oh
I thought "i" was supposed to be a personal thing, like you would be more connected to your phone or something
Like "i" stood for the pronoun
6:13 - 6:17 This scene may look like a joke to most people, but you see, with the release of Warioware: Get It Together, it's clear that Nintendo's trying to send a message with the titles here
Seeing Scott talk about Flipnote Studio feels awesome (He's talked about it before but still)
The flashback drawings at 4:26 were really cute, Scott has had his own small little drawings in videos before, but he's actually telling a story with his drawings here; it'd be cool to see Scott draw more, even if it was only for short scenes
ive seen you comment on so many scott videos, but yeha i agree 100%
Very much agreed!

I get a rush of gleefulness whenever anyone mentions the word "cave" and "story" less than 1 word apart. That game means a lot to me.

Do you prefer the freeware translation (you should because it's better) or the Nicalis translation?
The artstyle of the freeware version is better too.

I really wish there was a successor to flipnote, a simple animation program with a built in sharing service was what absolutely shaped my childhood
“Mario vs donkey Kong: Move Minnies move!”
I actually kinda like that subtitle
Oh man I remember Minis March Again. I got countless hours out of that game, and quite frankly it soured my expectations for other dsiware.
The Airace dsi games were pretty damn great though, as well as the anniversary Zelda: Four Swords release. Man those games were great.
Those animated segments showing off Scott’s flashbacks are really clean
I legitimately yelled when that segment happened, it shows that Scott’s content is getting so much more high quality, and I’m all for it

Photo Dojo, Flipnote, and Castle of Magic were my JAM. Loved them.
Castle of Magic! I’ve been looking for the name of that game for years, I played that religiously.
Flipnote is what got me interested in sprite art.
Also, I still have Four Swords Anniversary edition on my 3DS.
13:42 This means that someone may have seen a Flipnote video from Scott the Woz and not realized it.
Flipnote Hatena is the reason why I sustained my interest into art and now it's my full time job! 💚
Oh boy this takes me back. I remember using flip note a lot and me and my friends would draw weird pictures and send them to each other
Nostalgia, it was our childhood 😭
Flipnote was by far my favorite, it was legit practice for a career path I wanted to go down later in my life
I think I remember that time to such good times with the dsi

Gosh the small animated stills are really cool, I hope they keep coming for future episodes.
I hope they stay too, they look great.
It helps that they aren't just black and white, they have a background which helps them stand out more from other animated stills.
It's good to see Scott's videos evolving...
DSiware is how I learned about Cave Story and the Shantae series, so I have to give it my respect
Flipnote and the online version were unbelievably good, such a simple but effective animation software has never been so wide spread, also it has the best store theme fight me
7:31 cant get over that image
scott the woz fancam
The warioware snapped joke actually made me laugh so damn hard, good one scott
Lmfao me tooo
Do do do do do do doo doo doo do do

There are more sleep disorders than insomnia.

Oh my god! Finally somebody talking about all of these old DSiWare titles! I used to have all of these! I was a nut for DSiWare stuff a long, long time ago.. This has made me so very nostalgic! Thank you very much Scott!
as someone who had a dsi, I have 0 nostalgia for the nintendo dsi shop. Its really cool what parental controls can do.
15:32 HELL YEAH SPOTTO
One of my absolute favorite DSiware games, I legit still load it up every now and again!
Didn't you make baldis basics

4:27 I think its really cool that Scott is getting back into drawing and then using it to put cute small animations in the videos, its super rad and I hope it keeps going!
8:59 I loved playing Brain Age Express back in the day, so much memories and nostalgia
Lol, the Mario clock was actually my alarm for pretty much all of high school. I’ve got lots of nostalgia for the dsi
My favorite creator! I'm glad I get to watch this on my break at work
i like scott's humor a lot but i just normally dont laugh at things i'm watching. "like any of us spent a day in spotto's shoes" had me choking on linguine
I’m convinced Scott uses DSIware points to embezzle funds as a form of tax evasion
we do know he's a huge fan of tax fraud so it's plausible.
@Logan Roof you forgot to switch to your other other account
I feel like that short clip of Scott saluting should definitely be clipped. Maybe one day I'll actually go through each episode and make out-of-context clips so everyone can enjoy them.
I bought Mario Clock because I got quarantined in college and I forgot my phone charger. I needed an alarm to get up for zoom class and all I had was my 3ds. Literally a life saver.
13:48 yes, he's talking about _it!_
Fun fact: the game was designed for DSi's only, because the outer camera on the top side combined with the timer and setting it down could actually create a photo.
Also, a year later:
If you want an updated version of flipnote, just get a nintendo account, go to one of the games' websites, and do these things where you find items and if you get them all you get points.
Do them until you have 200 points (there's like 7 and they give you 100 points) and then redeem the flipnote 3d code.
Or you could spend them on themes and the twilight princess picross.
7:19 this just unlocked a forgotten memory. me and my sisters would always play with the filters on the mac camera
Thank /*GOD*/ you mentioned/liked "Shantae"! I always thought you'd like that series, and "Risky's Revenge" on DSiWare was *my* introduction to it!
I loved DSiWare
Shout out to Zenonia for being a whole super cool action RPG with a day night cycle, cute character designs, some pretty great writing (especially when it dips into humor), and fun combat. Love it to bits.
@Logan Roof ???
I loved that game! Its so sad you cant play 1,2 and 3 anymore
Wait...Zenonia???? The mobile RPG game???? Holy shit
some Zenonia titles are available on the Play St0re, some were only on DSi Ware, just the first three or four, I think
but with the DSi store getting closed, I never got around to playing later titles, I did at least pick up the first one, quite a neat game for cheap, though I bought it on my 3DS, I never picked up a DSi or knew about its existence until after it was discontinued, I only bought a regular DS and stuck to it (and still have it and love it) long ago
I'm glad that Flipnote Studio Hatena is still around, albeit it's now a third-party run service aimed at recreating that service as well as serving as a backup for many old Flipnotes and it is accessible without modding your dsi
