6:18 ... No Death, no gravity and a different shaped gear stick on the mini-metro! Still remember this sketch from back in the day. So many lines from the shows going through my head now. One of the best comedy shows ever. Cheers.
Hard to believe this programme is 43 years old now. Interesting that, despite frequently referencing current affairs of the 80s it still manages to be funny and that the concerns of the day are not so dissimilar to our own as we might think. The biggest shift seems to be the huge impact of social media but generally, it's 'Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose'.
I was going to adjust the tracking wheel under my monitor that isn't there. Would have done absolutely sod all if it was there anyway, just like the original.
14:35 -- The funniest sketch in this whole episode (and there's a bunch of them) is the John McEnroe impersonation by Griff. It also seems funny to me how people seemed to have forgotten McEnroe's antics versus the umpires during the 1980s.
Actually you can, if you know anything about economy, history or how inflation and time works. This was made over 44 years ago. A lot has happened since (like multiple recessions and global financial crashes), you don't even have the same cash in your hands.
@@dannydetonator Well said. Isn't it wonderful to know that everything is getting worse as the standards of living are improving. I remember in the early 1980's I once made over £200 in a week. The only problem was I worked 96 hours to do it. Most people today don't know what 96 hours in a month of genuine hard physical labour would be like. 6:14 - It was amazing to see they already knew the issues with translation computers back in the 1980s. Although I've seen the same trouble with Autocorrect.
Rowan Atkinson as the Alien was great - but when he spoke about the end of our civilization I couldn't help noticing the Z on his costume which reminded me of the Z on Putin's tanks.
Wow, that intro. That are literally telling you cannibals, and look who they focussed on - cyril smith. That was a inside dig. Back then of course, nobody had the faintest idea of what these cultists were doing.
These were the days when freedom of speech was taken for granted, whilst not being abused, and we all saw the funny side of things. So many shows that would now be banned because of some reprobate is offended.
You can also search "Malaysia meat cartel scandal" here and you will see my answer is BOTH a joke AND a tragedy. ALSO, kangaroo meat from a quick google is most likely not readily available in the UK, not because of some illegal activity in southeast Asia but possibly because of low demand. It's definitely there but you will have to go directly to the sellers to get it.
@@meilinchan7314 I looked it up and got an education on the scandal. With the house meat scandal some years back in Europe, it makes you wonder what you're actually eating when you eat meat. I have the cartels been arrested by police or will they go through a kangaroo court? (I had to go with a joke but I'm no comedian)😄
@@sophitsa79 : Thing is, #horsegate probably began with the creation of the EU single market, but in Malaysia's case, the Meat Cartel racket has been around for decades. The most striking thing here is that they were allowed to use the word holocaust without anyone saying that they were disrespectful to Jews. This was only 10 years since Holocaust with a capital H started to appear in dictionaries.
The humor in this show hasn't lost it's edge, even after 43 years! There are very few shows that can claim the same.
“the humour in this show hasn’t lost its edge”.

This was a strange day to land on this video. Russian nuclear war - it goes to show how long this has been a potential issue and it's heartbreaking.
8:14 Isn't this the line he said on Blackader Goes Forth?
Here I believe he says "Die Schreckliche Kartoffelkopf", while in Blackadder he mimics a German soldier saying "Schnell, schnell! Kartoffelkopf!!"
Well that explains John McEnroe, parents lying to wind him up all the time.
hmm, was the Geoff Capes bit taken from a meet at Gateshead? Trying to think of where else was open like that that did the British Meat games
