    Really enjoyable series 👍 I think they look better now than when they were new, conversely the 916 style doesn't look as great as I remember ?!

    Another great video, and two reactions:
    1) I want one of these now, but I’m probably too old and cronky to enjoy it properly.
    2) I want to be outside fettling my R1200S, as I had planned for today, but it’s chucking it down with rain and I don’t have a workshop. The R1200S is, I think, a little less extreme riding position than the Ducati, so I can still enjoy it.

    Love following your garage projects. It’s nice to see the difference in detail between Italian engineering and the more common Japanese. 👍
    In fact , I may re-watch your ZX10R vids as I have a Kwak arriving this week

    i love these, the testestreta is a work of art, if the headlights were side by side it would be up there with the 916/996/998

      I've had a 749 for 6 years now David, completely agree with the headlight arrangement, they're is a styling reason for it though which makes it more palatable, I asked about changing the headlight on a forum once....next day...horses head in the post!

    K&N make a Ducati oil filter with a hex head on the end of it so you can tighten and loosen it with a spanner. Much easier than trying to grab the end of it with a filter clamp.

    • @obsession_engineering
      @obsession_engineering  Рік тому +1

      I've seen the hex bits leak from where they're tack welded on, admittedly not a k+n filter, but it put me off using them

    • @maxcarter970
      @maxcarter970 Рік тому

      @@obsession_engineering fair enough. They haven’t leaked on me yet. I just got sick of fumbling around with a clamp on the little bit of filter hanging out of the engine.

    Removing the oil strainer on the 748 is genuinely a scary moment due to the flakey chrome on the rocker arms! ££££...p.s you're being polite about fitting the bodywork 😆

    • @obsession_engineering
      @obsession_engineering  Рік тому +2

      Bodywork isn't as easy as a 748 but it's a world easier than a modern Japanese bike!

    • @peterjons3954
      @peterjons3954 Рік тому +1

      @@obsession_engineering Agreed that fitting Ducati bodywork is worlds easier than Japanese bikes. Regarding the flakey chrome bits in the strainer. I had a 2000 748 with the rocker arms that had the bad chrome issue. Ducati covered the problem, but I swapped it for a 2002 998 that I still have. Have had several other Ducati's with no issues with the rocker chrome.

    I love these videos... thanks for sharing . I would be interested to see if you selling her now would you make any money. I just bought an 06 999 fila rep. I noticed the pannels were treated with heat wrap. Probably a good thing on these as they get hot

    Just watching through your videos again for about the 10th time 🤣 and something came to mind you could maybe help me with, I'm about to buy a 996, which more than likely I'm going to have as a collecter, how should I go about it mechanicly if its not going to be used? I was told to drain fuel tank and then run it until fuel system is empty, and the drain coolant, and just leave it with oil in so it can just be span over a couple of times (not started) now and then just to keep everything lubricated inside. Is this correct? Thanks 👍

    • @obsession_engineering
      @obsession_engineering  11 місяців тому

      I'd suggest riding and enjoying it... But if you want to store it, draining the fuel is definitely important as it can cause lots of issues if left.
      I wouldn't be too concerned about the coolant, difference is negligible leaving it in or draining it.
      I would disconnect the battery though.
      I'd also occasionally move it around, as wheel bearings and chassis bearings don't want to sit in the same position too long.

    Interesting that you’ve put a full on race oil in it, minus the detergents etc and recommended for very frequent changes? Why not 7100 from motul instead unless you are doing regular trackdays and therefore regular oil changes?

    My 999 had a similar issue but everything tested fine but there was still a discrepancy between the reg/rec output (13.7v) and the clock (12.2v). Did my head in so much I sold it cheap because it looked like it wasn't charging. Nice bike but an absolute nightmare to work on and there were ways little niggly electrical problems even after every electrical upgrade available.

      @@obsession_engineering ime you don't see main debris in the oil as a general rule. it's the sound - the zooooon noise on overrun when you're blipping it. new belts can make a similar noise, but that's usually a whine all the time.
