I got the Snow Flake because in the South the sun gets hot I love the Pearl as I had a Bianca 124 in 2018 and the bright white lacked pizzazz With the terra-cotta interior I’m pleased I did like that machine Grey but it would get hot where I live
My favorit color: 2019 Soul Red Crystal, which is in real life more saturated and bit darker conpare to ND1 Soul Red Metalic, while producing nice golden-orange reflections in direct sun light. Need to note it is very hard to capcure the beautiness of this color with camera, so the internet pictures are "only nice", but in reality the color have wow effect to me - even on other models like 2019 Mazda 3 or CX-5. Looking forward to polish and ceramic coat this beaty one day!
The red is a beautiful color. However, like you mentioned it does have flecks that depending on the lighting give it a different hue, which some people will lover, or not. The Miata looks good in all colors, making it a difficult choice.
I bought an eternal blue MX-5 RF two months ago after waiting more than two+ months. My special order got messed up and then I found the car at a different dealer. Mazda does use this color in other models such as CX-5, which I did see on dealers' lots and this helped.

Interesting video. Just placed an order for my first Miata this week, and choosing a color was the second biggest question I had, right behind the main one on if I'd fit in the car (being a bigger guy, I wasn't sure). Luckily, the dealership I went to had both an RF and a soft top in the showroom for me to try out, and it was nice to see that I fit just fine in both. Then it came time to choose the color. I knew I wanted the Club model, which comes with the black accents, and I decided to go with the soft top as I surprisingly didn't like the RF as much when I saw it in person (and that was the model I was initially going for). Looking online, my top 3 choices were Arctic White, Machine Gray, and Soul Red Crystal. I decided against Arctic White, even though I love the color, only because I'd had a white sports car before and I wanted to try something different. The soft top they had in the showroom was the Machine Gray, and actually seeing it in person didn't excite me as much as I thought. Granted, the car wasn't outside, but it just felt flat to me. And while they didn't have a Soul Red MX-5, they had some other models there in that color, and I fell in love with it. Looked fantastic on just a ho-hum CUV/SUV, so I could only imagine it would look great on the MX-5. So that's what I ended up ordering. Won't be here until the end of April / beginning of May, but since this is just going to be a fun, fair-weather car, and not a daily driver, I'm fine with that.
To my eye, the machine gray and the black are the two best colors. I bought the 2017 Mazda 3 and almost got black, but after seeing both, the Machine Gray is the nicest color, and so that's what I got, and never regretted it. Now I look at the MX5s, and once again, the Machine Gray color really grabs me the most. Then Black. Then Pearl White. It takes a LOT of work to keep black looking good, but much less work to have the Machine Gray look good. And I really like the way all the black accents contrast against the Machine Gray. It might grow on you.
To me...First thing you notice about a car..Design..Color..Wheels. 30th aniv Urange, wrap it!! Wrap top half or bottom half. From an ownership stand point, My white 16 Club is the hardest to touch up rock chips. Maguires white wax helps and brightens the white. The easiest color to touch up was black. Back paste wax and black spray wax. I prolly over think colors as much as you. Google and lineup photos. Lol. 👍😎
Looking at photos online, the soul red crystal metallic is my favourite colour. And thinking of all those huge, fat SUVs outside in the traffic, perhaps it's necessary to choose a bright red one when it comes to the MX-5 (which in comparison to those space shuttle-like SUVs is already smaller and less taller) to be seen and respected on the road, too? (Probably, those white Miatas also would catch the other drivers views, but I myself personally, I do not like the colour white for cars except for those ones on the racing track.) Moreover, up to now having seen some other Mazdas than the MX-5 outside on the road coloured in soul red crystal metallic, this colour seems to change not only with light (sunny or cloudy weather) but also with temperature and the surrounding: when it is warm and/or the car is placed in nature (i.e. a lot of green and/ or brown colour around it) it seems to be a kind of "metallic strawberry runner" and when it's cold outside and/or the car is placed between urban buildings (lots of beton, glass etc.) it seems to appear a little bit more "cherryly red"... anyway, comeing along with a soul red crystal metallic car like this (i.e. the MX-5 Convertible or RF) does need an extra portion of selfesteem, I suppose. My second favourite is machine grey, especially for the RF. Did you know that about twenty years ago, the MX-5 NB appeared in a very similar grey, namely in the special edition "Phoenix" having seats of nearly the same brown leather (which I do like very much) as your 2019 RF? Besides, in machine grey the MX-5 (especially the RF) does appear a lot more masculine than it does in soul red crystal metallic. For me (a woman), it's hard to choose not only betweeen the RF and the Convertible, but also between red (with black leather inside) and grey (with brown interior only) ... 🤔😳
hello. I have ordered an rf 2.0 with recaro seats with no obligation to purchase. Previously I tried an rf with normal seats and I was missing 1-1.5cm from the ceiling from the head, are the recaro seats higher, lower or the same as the normal ones? I'm afraid not to enter and to enter just it's better not to take it... thank you
The Ceramic Metallic is a lovely color and I think a better description may be to call it "chalk white"- kind of reminds me of the same color used on Porsche. As I mentioned elsewhere, in addition to this color, we will soon have 3 other shades of white...a new for 2022 "Platinum Quartz White"...and the existing "Snowflake White Pearl" and "Arctic White".
I'm going to go look at a Ceramic Metallic RF tomorrow. It has the Grand Sport package so it comes with the BBS and Brembos, but unfortunately not the Recaros. I don't mind the auburn nappa leather, so it's not a total deal-breaker. I would choose the Machine Grey or Eternal Blue over the Ceramic though, but there's none available around me and I'm hoping to get a great deal on this Ceramic one.
Do you feel like, based on the size of the mx5, having a white version would make it 'safer' as it would be more visible versus the black/grey? I think the grey is the most elevated color choice. Clearly the best one IMO that shows off the lines, and shape of the RF. However, I feel like it could really blend in a lot more at night.... and it being such a small car, that seems just less safe. What do you think?
Hey, Phil here.. I bought my 2020 mx-5 Grand Touring in the PolyMetal Gray, with the Burgundy red interior, which I gotta say, I'm so much more than in love with.. I added the appearance package in the piano black, plus the piano black spoiler, I then also added the piano black mirror skins to pull it all together.. I changed my stock wheels to Black Enkei RPF1s, with custom center caps by Flatout graphics that make it look like they're Mazda factory wheels.. I've got the rev9 gloss black badging set on order to get rid of the chrome altogether, and then in my opinion she will be visually perfect.. also forgot to mention that the windows have been tinted to the 15% black ceramic window tint as well.. as well as progress RF springs to work with the stock Bilsteins.. she is gorgeous, just rolling sex.
Congrats on the new car! The Polymetal gray looks great online, unfortunately I’ve yet to see it in person. Sounds like you’re truly making it your own. What other mods are you considering?
I'm waiting right now on my Open Flash Tablet to arrive, looking forward to trying out the e85 tune.. following that I'm doing a full exhaust, probably the Roadster Sport from Goodwin Racing, that and a mishimoto intake should allow for a half decent stage two tune.. as well as Goodwins front and rear sway bar kits. In reality I don't know if I'll ever be finished, but she is a beautiful thing to get lost in.
I went with White purely out of safety. The black, grey, and red become invisible on the Highway at dusk and I’m trying to not get destroyed by a lifted truck or Escalade. The white ones are the only cars on the road that I’ve always been able to spot in my mirrors.
got mine in ceramic white because i bought it used for a very good price. wasn't really convinced by the color at first. the first time I saw it in 2015 I even disliked it. i always wanted red. but after many months I really started enjoying it and how it changed color in different lights and day times. and as I saw other nd's in red in person I actually didn't even regret my choice because the red just looked boring when it was dark and cloudy and only shined at sunlight. but therefor the mazda red looks really good on our cx5
I will have a brand new MX-5 in the iconic Soul Red Crystal in a few weeks. Luckily for me we get 320+ days of sunshine here per year in sunny Spain :-)
I picked arctic white because Phoenix! Think it looks good with the black mirrors top and rims. May eventually get the tan top . Saw a video that measured surface temp and white does not get as hot as other colors , even silver. Otherwise I would have gone for the soul red , blue or if money was no object the 30th anniversary orange! Really looks much better in person.
I can't fathom why mazda doesn't have other primary colors like the red crystal. Having a blue, green, copper etc with the lustrous sheen of the red crystal would be amazing and would improve sales big time. I think the crystal red is stunning (especially in direct sunlight) but I know if I get it, chances are really good that at least 80 perecent of the other miatas I will see on the road will be the same red and I will feel like I am part of a clone army (good looking group though). Unsurprisingly the next best color for me is also the other premium color of machine grey. That definitely shows a deep shine even though I have never been a fan of gray/silver. So it boils down to: do I want to get the color that the majority of owners will obviously have or do I want to go with a base color I don't like but at least has a nice shine to it. Time will tell, dealership is trying to find either color but alas the pandemic has drained the inventory stock so I get to wait. I currently own a white car, never doing that again and the other miata colors are too dull for my tastes.
I think you'll find a lot of people would agree with you that Mazda really needs to expand their color palette for the MX-5 Miata. I have never been a fan of gray or silver as well, but the Machine gray does show well.
@@TheLemonFactor BTW I was chatting with an experienced miata sales guy/fanboy and he told me the hottest selling color, surprise surprise, red with tan interior. They simply can't keep it in stock and I can confirm it is no where to be found right now. He told me a sad story. Somebody wanted a red/tan GT at the start of the 2020 year but had to wait a whopping 4 months before he could get one, he shows up as it's about to come off the trailer and it gets damaged as they were taking it off. He was so pissed that even with mazda offering to priority ship one to him as soon as they could, he walked away. I can understand that frustration. BTW the polymetal gray, not doing well and I am not surprised. There is one available at my dealership right now (GT/manual) and I just can't pull the trigger on it, as much as I want the car right now, there is something about that color that is really off-putting to me.

@@clays1507 It's small size, weight, manual transmission and zingy engine with the high redline (ND2) makes it a lot of fun. It's not a fast car but it does give the feeling of being fast and on public roads, I consider that a good thing. Have you test drove one?

Hi I bought a used Miata NC that I love, it's a similar grey as yours. After living with it for a while I'm concerned about it's visibility, it's already a small car and it' the same colour as the road. Visibility is a consideration I'd like to stand out more for that reason alone.
Although I've never had that problem (knock on wood), I have heard others express the same concern and some that have gotten into minor accidents in which the other driver has indicated that they didn't see them. Be careful out there.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but personally, I find white and gray colored cars boring. Gray often looks good - but still a bit boring. I chose my Miata in red, I would not have gotten any other color. After driving it for a bit, I do realize that it stands out a lot more in that color and is a bit cliche - a middle aged guy with a red sports car. But I love it!
I found this very helpful. You made many very good points. Picking out the right color is an extremely important decision... And especially with a Miata that you may live with the rest of your life. I'm shopping now after the hp bump although I've loved the car since it's inception. Now that it has the numbers I thought it should have had from the start, I'm ready to go get one. I'm looking for elegance mostly but will opt for the GT-S mostly because I want the LSD... that probably didn't sound good did it? LOL... seriously though, I want the punch through the corners while looking refined when I do it. I will be getting a soft top for two reasons. I've never owned a convertible and secondly, I want the lightest Miata. Well, there's actually a third reason... I currently own a pristine '89 MR2 with a T-Top and the RF would be too much of a repeat. So elegance... Red/tan/back top Blue/tan/black top Machine Grey/Auburn/ Cherry Red Top Red is a little too common but it's always a winner in a sports car. If the Cherry Red top doesn't look good down next to the Auburn seats, that's a deal breaker. If it does match well, I would probably choose that combo. But based on what I feel most certain of... Having never seen the car in person... my choice would be the Blue Mica with tan leather and a black top. The trim pkg and black deck spoiler adding contrast. All that being said, I will strongly consider your advice before I order. In the meantime, I'm looking for a serious buyer for the MR2 which just keeps going up in value according to Haggerty's. I see Mazda has a new color... Poly Metal Grey and they're dropping red seats into it on some models. If red seats are offered with a pearl white Miata, it's game over right there. New sub.

Ceramic Metallic is the best color. It's like a matte white color that could change to a slightly blue color because of the sky reflection. It's really nice and classy. Red is a nice one too with the matching side panel in the interior. But it's a bit of a clich'e color haha.
When I bought my nd miata(sport trim, AT, sad story), I really wanted to get one in white, but there wasn't a white one in whole California, so I finally chose black. At first I really hated the black color when I saw the picture online because it looked boring and doesn't show any design(like form change, or details) on the car, so I was struggling until the dealer sent me a picture of a black one taken in real life, the reflection makes it completely different from the one I saw on Mazda official website. Now I definitely love it. Machine gray is still my favourite color, it has great reflection, and shows form much better than black. Red fits miata perfectly too, but not for me.
Thanks for the informative video. I too found Mazda’s website colours not truly correct. I tried to order a 2021 GT soft top in machine gray with a gray top and red interior but unfortunately this combination in unavailable in Canada 😕. I ended up with a machine gray GT model with the standard black top and interior. I hope I’m not disappointed.
I just had to buy one for my wife and she wanted automatic gt with white exterior and black interior. There was one in the whole northeast so I got it. I got a decent deal but told friends I was worried about negotiating because I had to get that car.
I got the Machine Gray, it looks classic and the black interior looks good! I would lave loved to have bought The Red, I bought my first Miata in 1989, Red with Black trim, and bought a new one every 5 years. The Red Car is an Absolute Speed Police 🧲 Magnet! I lost count of the times I was pulled over by cops while driving my red car, each time I was well within the speed limit. So finally I gave up on the idea of having a Red Car! There seems to be something that Police officers do not appreciate about a Woman driving A Red Sports Car!!
The Miata has a great shape and I find it looks good in any color. The red is a nice color and I’ve had my fair share of red cars but found similar problems (minus being a woman part 😁). Enjoy your Miata - it’s a blast!
The Lemon Factor and guys, I am about to buy a used MX5 2018 in the next couple of weeks, but still cant decide if red or gray. Let me explain: gray is my favorite, but I would have to bring the car from another town 8 hours away and the price is higher. Red is cheaper and is right here where I live but I am concerned it will scream midlife crisis (I am 44). Please help me decide!
Go for the one you'll want to see parked in your garage, driveway, parking, etc. The 8hr inconvenience is short term and would give you an opportunity to bond with the car. According to my wife, I've been going through midlife crisis since I was in my 20s (when it comes to cars). Go with the one you want long term!
I have three Mazda’s now, two are Miata’s. I originally bought a 2016 Miata in Soul Red new as a second pure sports car (now for sale), then my 15-year-old Honda SI died so I replaced that with a Mazda 3 in Soul Red but I didn’t like the feel so I traded that in for a 2019 Mazda 3 in Soul Red Crystal which I loved and after nearly a year I was ready to get another Miata for the improvements, especially the engine. The fun factor is significantly improved! While I wanted red again, I had tried to buy one with the Brembo/BBS/Recaro package but all I could find were a Machine Grey and an Arctic White and while the white was imminently more practical because and you didn’t mention this, but the fragile paint of the metallic’s and damage from chipping paint issue, as a result. My heart and emotions won over in the end so I bought a Club soft top in SRC/Black but without the optional Recaro seats that I would have preferred. I “settled” for the machine Grey and even owned one for a couple of days, but I went back to the dealer and opted for a 2019 ST in SRC without the optional package. I cannot believe that there is no affordable way to get aftermarket sport seats which make the $3000 premium for the Brembo/Recaro package a huge bargain but in the end, color won over the Recaros. I felt that the metallic grey was almost invisible to other drivers, especially in such a small car because it blended to well with blacktop and didn’t stand out as well as a white or red does.
I have heard a lot of people express concern about the grey color blending into the tarmac leading to safety concerns. Hopefully, I won't ever find out if this is true. The red really is a great shade that you can't go wrong with.
Actually, I’m think that previous generations of the Mazda MX-5 had better looking colors, and more varied than in the present generation. The blue mica was stunning, much better looking than the grayish “eternal” blue mica offered in the ND model. Another great color no longer offered was the dark green (I don’t remember wha it was called), plus the copper red. I would never buy any gray, silver, or black colored cars - they’re just dull or dark - just ugly, I’m sorry. About three quarters of all vehicle colors nowadays are neutral; that is, black, white, gray, or silver. Maybe I’m just bored and tired at looking at too much dullness. If I were to buy a Mazda MX-5 today, it would definitely be the soul red crystal metallic - stunning! I would like these colors offered in the MX-5: yellow, green, orange (not just the 30th anniversary edition), plus the blue mica of the NC generation.
A highly polished black is not bad in my book but I agree with gray/silver. Don't get me started on this fad with matte black, horrible absolutely horrible. It's going to be a stigma for this period of years moving forward. So mad mazda only has one really good color, so many customers are going to get it, including me, sigh.
Hi It's rare to see a MX 5 in black. No one, shows black in the videos, (it's always Red). it's as if Black doesn't exist. I really like the blue, but when you said it could be lighter than what it looks like on screen, it got me thinking. I really like the Machine Grey, but I would choose, the RF GT automatic, in black. It's more elegant. I had a Toyota Cressida, that was Baby Blue. It was my mother's ( now passed) and it never bothered me. But MX 5 in Black, thank you All the best Shaun of NYC
I'm getting a 2020 an RF GT with Polymetal Gray with red leather. I think it's a beautiful combo! Almost a silvery light blue. Very different from anything else I've seen.
I can’t decided between the black and red RF 2019 😭😭😭😭 💔💔. I’ve seen countless pictures across social media’s etc and also lots of videos! And in person I’ve only seen the black. I need to see the red to decided I guess lol. I may just get both cars 😆. oh and with black interiors!

Same here, with many doubts. I love soul red but it’s a little too much “hey look at me please”. Snowflake not bad but white...is a little too simple. Black is the first love but...it could be a black hole hiding car curves and looking smaller than it already is. Polymetal seems to be a little flat. Really I don’t know, machine gray could be a middle way to go.
I Subscribed because you are looking into exactly what I want to know. I will be picking up my MX-5 RF Club, Brembo package, Friday 12-7-19, in Eugene Oregon; it is the Machine Gray Metallic which looks totally bitchin' and super sporty with the black BBS wheels. I see no metallic in that color, though. The Soul Red is stunning, but a little flashy for me. The Eternal Blue is nice, but I'm not into Blue cars since like the 70's! As far as the interiors go, I really like Black. I saw the Orange Special Edition car; it's super nice, but I think the color would totally wear on me. The Brown and the light tan interiors are nice but will show dirt and are a little harder to keep looking nice. The drawback to black is it can get really hot in the sun. The Machine Gray with the BBS wheels and black leather interior fit my idea of Sporty to a Tee! I can't wait to get my car and drive it, nearly 500 miles to it's new home here in Northern Nevada!
Hi, my name Ivan and I'm from NJ. I went to look at the 2020 Mazda Miata MX-5. I was looking for a soft top. Soon as I arrived to the Mazda dealership. I looked around and none in sight. I went inside the dealership and asked one of the salesman standing around doing nothing (lol) "excuse me sir, you have the 2020 Mazda Miata MX-5 soft tops on the lot"? The salesman just looks at me and laughs and replied "NO". So I called other Mazda dealerships to see if they have the 2020 Mazda Miata soft tops. Some of them answered no and some only had one but it was the hard top the RF. I asked this one lady a saleswoman who answered the phone, I asked her "why doesn't the Mazda dealerships have the Miatas?" and she said, it's because it doesn't sell as good their other Mazda models. So my guess is that no one drives convertibles in NJ, so why bother. I guess I have to go to another state where there is nice sunshine where the people would enjoy the Mazda Miata convertibles.
I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had a good experience looking for your new Miata. My worst experience was was the dealership 5 mins away. In the end I traveled 40 min to buy from a dealership that not only had the car I was looking for at the right price, but that was very professional and response in their communications. BTW, from what I've read the Miata has actually been selling quite well in 2020, although that's throughout the country and not specific to NJ. Hope you find the right place and right car to buy. I’m gonna be in a recovery mode and go thru some therapy which will take some months. But once I’m good and feeling better. I will be moving to Florida and once I get there,. I will buy the Miata.
I bought the 2019 Mazda MX-5 RF GT manual in Machine Grey Metallic. I love it! But the colors I would also have chosen was the Snowflake White Pearl Mica. Simply elegant. The Soul Red Crystal Metallic is really nice too, but I'm afraid it's a cop magnet unfortunately, you know. Oh well, I'm happy already anyway.

I’m a white guy. And It makes buying a car so friggin easy. I just bought a used 2020 RF sport AT and love it. (Did have to drive 2 hours to LA to get what I wanted. Also have a white JKUR, and an old white Ram, and wife has white G70(first gen). White guy… lol
Congratulations on your new car!!! I never thought I’d get a white car, but after seeing my other car in white (Honda Accord) I was convinced that was the right color for me. Mazda has a couple white color options, which did you end up getting?
A new color here in Spain for 2022 is a brand new white called "Platinum Quartz"- a super bright and shiny white color...and also (not sure if it's 2021 or 2022) a new blue color called "Deep Crystal Blue". The new "Platinum Quartz" white is a super bright white- whiter than existing the Snowflake White Pearl or the Arctic White colors. This comes on a new edition called the "Blue Cap" MX-5 which has a new lighter blue soft top.
I've done this now with several of my cars and found it very helpful to at least narrow down the colors. I've done this several times now to at least help me narrow down the colors...
I looked for any video or photos of a black Miata and it didn't look as good as I thought. I have seen some cars look great in Black but for some reason the Miata looks an ordinary car and loses its distinct personality. Leaning towards the red one now.
Black!. I know it's your favorite color so don't shoot the messenger please. I once had a Black Supra. It was always dusty and always looked scratched with swirls etc. It was awful to maintain.
I hear you... I've had several black cars and understand the frustration, but they sure do look good clean and waxed (for however short a period of time that lasts). Actually, I'm pretty happy with the gray as it does hide a lot of the dirt. That black Supra must of looked pretty good though.
got news for you bud other colors show dirt as well, white also shows up dirt bad, I know this because I own premium pearl white car. I also test drove a 2020 miata white that had not been cleaned and it was so unattractive. The first thing I told the salesperson was they really need to get it washed. Surprisingly the one color that didn't look half bad when dirty with all kinds of dirt and dust was the red crystal. I just look dull from a distance and the next day I saw it clean and polished and out in the sun and it blew me away! Stunning! I have own a lot of black over the decades, and unlike white, gloss black looks stunning at certain angles.Matte black, no. My last gloss black, never got swirls cause I washed it by hand and had it garaged. Stunning at night.
wow way to much analyzing . For me pretty simple I wanted to trade my 2016 GT in blue reflex mica to a 2019 GT with the gts package saw a picture of the eternal blue loved it and was very lucky to find one. Eternal blue with the GTS package pretty rare bought it the day I saw it absolutely love the color everyone that sees loves the color
Pure black or pure white on a car is a bad choice in my opinion. Black hides a lot of body details too easily in the shade and it blends in with the color of asphalt. I hate seeing nice cars all blacked out because you cannot appreciate their shapes. It's like you're trying to hide the car from view. A black color only looks good when it's super clean and polished on a very sunny day. A pure white also lacks depth and is a disservice to a beautiful body. The red on Miata is too common and too punchy for my taste, it has a feminine feel to me on such a curvy body as the RF. This is why I love a good silver color or the grey that you have. Especially with a nice tan or that brown interior. I like the blue option they have but I'd have to see it in person first. I'd prefer a darker, navy blue metallic. I also wondered what a turquoise/teal would look like on the ND Miata.
The most helpful hint: see the car in person under different lighting conditions. My Mazda 3 in blue turned nearly black at sunset. Web page photos are not to be trusted. On another note, if you are looking to make your channel a success, boil the content down. I'd say that this episode should have gone under ten minutes. Starting about minute 17, it got real bland. Is there something to see here? Use a tripod as for your opening remarks; this was basically a fixed view, but the jiggle is annoying.
Please explain “Taste”? When one thinks of “taste” one thinks of understated elegance! The Mazda MX5 does not reek of “ look what I can afford” ! One always thinks of a Sports Car as being Red, I don’t consider that tasteless, just fun. But the last 3 that I have owned have been in metallic grey, my current one is The Metallic Grey which is beautiful, and does not seem to attract the Friendly Law-enforcement officers!!

My favorit color: 2019 Soul Red Crystal, which is in real life more saturated and bit darker conpare to ND1 Soul Red Metalic, while producing nice golden-orange reflections in direct sun light. Need to note it is very hard to capcure the beautiness of this color with camera, so the internet pictures are "only nice", but in reality the color have wow effect to me - even on other models like 2019 Mazda 3 or CX-5. Looking forward to polish and ceramic coat this beaty one day!
The red is a beautiful color. However, like you mentioned it does have flecks that depending on the lighting give it a different hue, which some people will lover, or not. The Miata looks good in all colors, making it a difficult choice.
That SoulRed is spectacular, but a bit showy for my tastes.

I bought an eternal blue MX-5 RF two months ago after waiting more than two+ months. My special order got messed up and then I found the car at a different dealer. Mazda does use this color in other models such as CX-5, which I did see on dealers' lots and this helped.

Black. I got blue & white vanity plates so I would not have Colorado's standard green plates.

Interesting video. Just placed an order for my first Miata this week, and choosing a color was the second biggest question I had, right behind the main one on if I'd fit in the car (being a bigger guy, I wasn't sure). Luckily, the dealership I went to had both an RF and a soft top in the showroom for me to try out, and it was nice to see that I fit just fine in both. Then it came time to choose the color. I knew I wanted the Club model, which comes with the black accents, and I decided to go with the soft top as I surprisingly didn't like the RF as much when I saw it in person (and that was the model I was initially going for).
Looking online, my top 3 choices were Arctic White, Machine Gray, and Soul Red Crystal. I decided against Arctic White, even though I love the color, only because I'd had a white sports car before and I wanted to try something different. The soft top they had in the showroom was the Machine Gray, and actually seeing it in person didn't excite me as much as I thought. Granted, the car wasn't outside, but it just felt flat to me. And while they didn't have a Soul Red MX-5, they had some other models there in that color, and I fell in love with it. Looked fantastic on just a ho-hum CUV/SUV, so I could only imagine it would look great on the MX-5. So that's what I ended up ordering. Won't be here until the end of April / beginning of May, but since this is just going to be a fun, fair-weather car, and not a daily driver, I'm fine with that.

To my eye, the machine gray and the black are the two best colors. I bought the 2017 Mazda 3 and almost got black, but after seeing both, the Machine Gray is the nicest color, and so that's what I got, and never regretted it. Now I look at the MX5s, and once again, the Machine Gray color really grabs me the most. Then Black. Then Pearl White.
It takes a LOT of work to keep black looking good, but much less work to have the Machine Gray look good. And I really like the way all the black accents contrast against the Machine Gray. It might grow on you.
That Machine Gray is a very nice color, that has grown on me, I'm glad I got it.
To me...First thing you notice about a car..Design..Color..Wheels. 30th aniv Urange, wrap it!! Wrap top half or bottom half. From an ownership stand point, My white 16 Club is the hardest to touch up rock chips. Maguires white wax helps and brightens the white. The easiest color to touch up was black. Back paste wax and black spray wax. I prolly over think colors as much as you. Google and lineup photos. Lol. 👍😎
Looking at photos online, the soul red crystal metallic is my favourite colour. And thinking of all those huge, fat SUVs outside in the traffic, perhaps it's necessary to choose a bright red one when it comes to the MX-5 (which in comparison to those space shuttle-like SUVs is already smaller and less taller) to be seen and respected on the road, too? (Probably, those white Miatas also would catch the other drivers views, but I myself personally, I do not like the colour white for cars except for those ones on the racing track.) Moreover, up to now having seen some other Mazdas than the MX-5 outside on the road coloured in soul red crystal metallic, this colour seems to change not only with light (sunny or cloudy weather) but also with temperature and the surrounding: when it is warm and/or the car is placed in nature (i.e. a lot of green and/ or brown colour around it) it seems to be a kind of "metallic strawberry runner" and when it's cold outside and/or the car is placed between urban buildings (lots of beton, glass etc.) it seems to appear a little bit more "cherryly red"... anyway, comeing along with a soul red crystal metallic car like this (i.e. the MX-5 Convertible or RF) does need an extra portion of selfesteem, I suppose.
My second favourite is machine grey, especially for the RF. Did you know that about twenty years ago, the MX-5 NB appeared in a very similar grey, namely in the special edition "Phoenix" having seats of nearly the same brown leather (which I do like very much) as your 2019 RF? Besides, in machine grey the MX-5 (especially the RF) does appear a lot more masculine than it does in soul red crystal metallic.
For me (a woman), it's hard to choose not only betweeen the RF and the Convertible, but also between red (with black leather inside) and grey (with brown interior only) ... 🤔😳
Personally, I wish they offered a Sapphire Blue, and an Emerald or British Racing Green 😁
hello. I have ordered an rf 2.0 with recaro seats with no obligation to purchase. Previously I tried an rf with normal seats and I was missing 1-1.5cm from the ceiling from the head, are the recaro seats higher, lower or the same as the normal ones? I'm afraid not to enter and to enter just it's better not to take it... thank you
The Ceramic Metallic is a lovely color and I think a better description may be to call it "chalk white"- kind of reminds me of the same color used on Porsche. As I mentioned elsewhere, in addition to this color, we will soon have 3 other shades of white...a new for 2022 "Platinum Quartz White"...and the existing "Snowflake White Pearl" and "Arctic White".
Too many choices of white - Mazda needs to offer a British Racing Green / Emerald to its color options 👍
I'm going to go look at a Ceramic Metallic RF tomorrow. It has the Grand Sport package so it comes with the BBS and Brembos, but unfortunately not the Recaros. I don't mind the auburn nappa leather, so it's not a total deal-breaker. I would choose the Machine Grey or Eternal Blue over the Ceramic though, but there's none available around me and I'm hoping to get a great deal on this Ceramic one.

Do you feel like, based on the size of the mx5, having a white version would make it 'safer' as it would be more visible versus the black/grey? I think the grey is the most elevated color choice. Clearly the best one IMO that shows off the lines, and shape of the RF. However, I feel like it could really blend in a lot more at night.... and it being such a small car, that seems just less safe. What do you think?
Good question. I do think some of the brighter colors will help make the car stand out more, being noticed more by surrounding drivers 👍
Hey, Phil here.. I bought my 2020 mx-5 Grand Touring in the PolyMetal Gray, with the Burgundy red interior, which I gotta say, I'm so much more than in love with.. I added the appearance package in the piano black, plus the piano black spoiler, I then also added the piano black mirror skins to pull it all together.. I changed my stock wheels to Black Enkei RPF1s, with custom center caps by Flatout graphics that make it look like they're Mazda factory wheels.. I've got the rev9 gloss black badging set on order to get rid of the chrome altogether, and then in my opinion she will be visually perfect.. also forgot to mention that the windows have been tinted to the 15% black ceramic window tint as well.. as well as progress RF springs to work with the stock Bilsteins.. she is gorgeous, just rolling sex.

I'm waiting right now on my Open Flash Tablet to arrive, looking forward to trying out the e85 tune.. following that I'm doing a full exhaust, probably the Roadster Sport from Goodwin Racing, that and a mishimoto intake should allow for a half decent stage two tune.. as well as Goodwins front and rear sway bar kits. In reality I don't know if I'll ever be finished, but she is a beautiful thing to get lost in.

I went with White purely out of safety. The black, grey, and red become invisible on the Highway at dusk and I’m trying to not get destroyed by a lifted truck or Escalade. The white ones are the only cars on the road that I’ve always been able to spot in my mirrors.

got mine in ceramic white because i bought it used for a very good price. wasn't really convinced by the color at first. the first time I saw it in 2015 I even disliked it. i always wanted red.
but after many months I really started enjoying it and how it changed color in different lights and day times.
and as I saw other nd's in red in person I actually didn't even regret my choice because the red just looked boring when it was dark and cloudy and only shined at sunlight.
but therefor the mazda red looks really good on our cx5
Lots of colors to choose from, and if you’re open to it, a custom wrap is fairly easy on these cars 👍
I will have a brand new MX-5 in the iconic Soul Red Crystal in a few weeks. Luckily for me we get 320+ days of sunshine here per year in sunny Spain :-)
I picked arctic white because Phoenix! Think it looks good with the black mirrors top and rims. May eventually get the tan top . Saw a video that measured surface temp and white does not get as hot as other colors , even silver. Otherwise I would have gone for the soul red , blue or if money was no object the 30th anniversary orange! Really looks much better in person.
I can't fathom why mazda doesn't have other primary colors like the red crystal. Having a blue, green, copper etc with the lustrous sheen of the red crystal would be amazing and would improve sales big time. I think the crystal red is stunning (especially in direct sunlight) but I know if I get it, chances are really good that at least 80 perecent of the other miatas I will see on the road will be the same red and I will feel like I am part of a clone army (good looking group though). Unsurprisingly the next best color for me is also the other premium color of machine grey. That definitely shows a deep shine even though I have never been a fan of gray/silver.
So it boils down to: do I want to get the color that the majority of owners will obviously have or do I want to go with a base color I don't like but at least has a nice shine to it. Time will tell, dealership is trying to find either color but alas the pandemic has drained the inventory stock so I get to wait. I currently own a white car, never doing that again and the other miata colors are too dull for my tastes.
I think you'll find a lot of people would agree with you that Mazda really needs to expand their color palette for the MX-5 Miata. I have never been a fan of gray or silver as well, but the Machine gray does show well.
@@TheLemonFactor BTW I was chatting with an experienced miata sales guy/fanboy and he told me the hottest selling color, surprise surprise, red with tan interior. They simply can't keep it in stock and I can confirm it is no where to be found right now. He told me a sad story. Somebody wanted a red/tan GT at the start of the 2020 year but had to wait a whopping 4 months before he could get one, he shows up as it's about to come off the trailer and it gets damaged as they were taking it off. He was so pissed that even with mazda offering to priority ship one to him as soon as they could, he walked away. I can understand that frustration. BTW the polymetal gray, not doing well and I am not surprised. There is one available at my dealership right now (GT/manual) and I just can't pull the trigger on it, as much as I want the car right now, there is something about that color that is really off-putting to me.

@@clays1507 It's small size, weight, manual transmission and zingy engine with the high redline (ND2) makes it a lot of fun. It's not a fast car but it does give the feeling of being fast and on public roads, I consider that a good thing. Have you test drove one?

Hi I bought a used Miata NC that I love, it's a similar grey as yours. After living with it for a while I'm concerned about it's visibility, it's already a small car and it' the same colour as the road. Visibility is a consideration I'd like to stand out more for that reason alone.
Although I've never had that problem (knock on wood), I have heard others express the same concern and some that have gotten into minor accidents in which the other driver has indicated that they didn't see them. Be careful out there.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but personally, I find white and gray colored cars boring. Gray often looks good - but still a bit boring. I chose my Miata in red, I would not have gotten any other color. After driving it for a bit, I do realize that it stands out a lot more in that color and is a bit cliche - a middle aged guy with a red sports car. But I love it!

I'm shopping now after the hp bump although I've loved the car since it's inception. Now that it has the numbers I thought it should have had from the start, I'm ready to go get one.
I'm looking for elegance mostly but will opt for the GT-S mostly because I want the LSD... that probably didn't sound good did it? LOL... seriously though, I want the punch through the corners while looking refined when I do it.
I will be getting a soft top for two reasons. I've never owned a convertible and secondly, I want the lightest Miata. Well, there's actually a third reason... I currently own a pristine '89 MR2 with a T-Top and the RF would be too much of a repeat.

Red is a little too common but it's always a winner in a sports car. If the Cherry Red top doesn't look good down next to the Auburn seats, that's a deal breaker. If it does match well, I would probably choose that combo.
But based on what I feel most certain of... Having never seen the car in person... my choice would be the Blue Mica with tan leather and a black top. The trim pkg and black deck spoiler adding contrast.
All that being said, I will strongly consider your advice before I order. In the meantime, I'm looking for a serious buyer for the MR2 which just keeps going up in value according to Haggerty's.
I see Mazda has a new color... Poly Metal Grey and they're dropping red seats into it on some models. If red seats are offered with a pearl white Miata, it's game over right there.

Ceramic Metallic is the best color. It's like a matte white color that could change to a slightly blue color because of the sky reflection. It's really nice and classy.
Red is a nice one too with the matching side panel in the interior. But it's a bit of a clich'e color haha.
Ceramic Metallic is very unique! I agree with you on the red, however, every time I see one I do a double take - it does look good, "cliche" or not.
When I bought my nd miata(sport trim, AT, sad story), I really wanted to get one in white, but there wasn't a white one in whole California, so I finally chose black.
At first I really hated the black color when I saw the picture online because it looked boring and doesn't show any design(like form change, or details) on the car, so I was struggling until the dealer sent me a picture of a black one taken in real life, the reflection makes it completely different from the one I saw on Mazda official website. Now I definitely love it.
Machine gray is still my favourite color, it has great reflection, and shows form much better than black. Red fits miata perfectly too, but not for me.
Although I am happy with the Machine Grey, the black looked amazing when I saw it in person. Hope you're enjoying the car!

I tried to order a 2021 GT soft top in machine gray with a gray top and red interior but unfortunately this combination in unavailable in Canada 😕. I ended up with a machine gray GT model with the standard black top and interior. I hope I’m not disappointed.

I just had to buy one for my wife and she wanted automatic gt with white exterior and black interior. There was one in the whole northeast so I got it. I got a decent deal but told friends I was worried about negotiating because I had to get that car.

I got the Machine Gray, it looks classic and the black interior looks good! I would lave loved to have bought The Red, I bought my first Miata in 1989, Red with Black trim, and bought a new one every 5 years. The Red Car is an Absolute Speed Police 🧲 Magnet! I lost count of the times I was pulled over by cops while driving my red car, each time I was well within the speed limit. So finally I gave up on the idea of having a Red Car! There seems to be something that Police officers do not appreciate about a Woman driving A Red Sports Car!!
The Miata has a great shape and I find it looks good in any color. The red is a nice color and I’ve had my fair share of red cars but found similar problems (minus being a woman part 😁). Enjoy your Miata - it’s a blast!
The Lemon Factor and guys, I am about to buy a used MX5 2018 in the next couple of weeks, but still cant decide if red or gray. Let me explain: gray is my favorite, but I would have to bring the car from another town 8 hours away and the price is higher. Red is cheaper and is right here where I live but I am concerned it will scream midlife crisis (I am 44). Please help me decide!
Go for the one you'll want to see parked in your garage, driveway, parking, etc. The 8hr inconvenience is short term and would give you an opportunity to bond with the car. According to my wife, I've been going through midlife crisis since I was in my 20s (when it comes to cars). Go with the one you want long term!

I have three Mazda’s now, two are Miata’s. I originally bought a 2016 Miata in Soul Red new as a second pure sports car (now for sale), then my 15-year-old Honda SI died so I replaced that with a Mazda 3 in Soul Red but I didn’t like the feel so I traded that in for a 2019 Mazda 3 in Soul Red Crystal which I loved and after nearly a year I was ready to get another Miata for the improvements, especially the engine. The fun factor is significantly improved! While I wanted red again, I had tried to buy one with the Brembo/BBS/Recaro package but all I could find were a Machine Grey and an Arctic White and while the white was imminently more practical because and you didn’t mention this, but the fragile paint of the metallic’s and damage from chipping paint issue, as a result. My heart and emotions won over in the end so I bought a Club soft top in SRC/Black but without the optional Recaro seats that I would have preferred. I “settled” for the machine Grey and even owned one for a couple of days, but I went back to the dealer and opted for a 2019 ST in SRC without the optional package. I cannot believe that there is no affordable way to get aftermarket sport seats which make the $3000 premium for the Brembo/Recaro package a huge bargain but in the end, color won over the Recaros. I felt that the metallic grey was almost invisible to other drivers, especially in such a small car because it blended to well with blacktop and didn’t stand out as well as a white or red does.
I have heard a lot of people express concern about the grey color blending into the tarmac leading to safety concerns. Hopefully, I won't ever find out if this is true. The red really is a great shade that you can't go wrong with.

Actually, I’m think that previous generations of the Mazda MX-5 had better looking colors, and more varied than in the present generation. The blue mica was stunning, much better looking than the grayish “eternal” blue mica offered in the ND model. Another great color no longer offered was the dark green (I don’t remember wha it was called), plus the copper red. I would never buy any gray, silver, or black colored cars - they’re just dull or dark - just ugly, I’m sorry. About three quarters of all vehicle colors nowadays are neutral; that is, black, white, gray, or silver. Maybe I’m just bored and tired at looking at too much dullness. If I were to buy a Mazda MX-5 today, it would definitely be the soul red crystal metallic - stunning! I would like these colors offered in the MX-5: yellow, green, orange (not just the 30th anniversary edition), plus the blue mica of the NC generation.
A highly polished black is not bad in my book but I agree with gray/silver. Don't get me started on this fad with matte black, horrible absolutely horrible. It's going to be a stigma for this period of years moving forward. So mad mazda only has one really good color, so many customers are going to get it, including me, sigh.

It's rare to see a MX 5 in black. No one, shows black in the videos, (it's always Red). it's as if Black doesn't exist. I really like the blue, but when you said it could be lighter than what it looks like on screen, it got me thinking. I really like the Machine Grey, but I would choose, the RF GT automatic, in black. It's more elegant. I had a Toyota Cressida, that was Baby Blue. It was my mother's ( now passed) and it never bothered me. But MX 5 in Black, thank you

Same here, with many doubts. I love soul red but it’s a little too much “hey look at me please”. Snowflake not bad but white...is a little too simple. Black is the first love but...it could be a black hole hiding car curves and looking smaller than it already is. Polymetal seems to be a little flat. Really I don’t know, machine gray could be a middle way to go.

I see no metallic in that color, though. The Soul Red is stunning, but a little flashy for me. The Eternal Blue is nice, but I'm not into Blue cars since like the 70's! As far as the interiors go, I really like Black. I saw the Orange Special Edition car; it's super nice, but I think the color would totally wear on me. The Brown and the light tan interiors are nice but will show dirt and are a little harder to keep looking nice. The drawback to black is it can get really hot in the sun. The Machine Gray with the BBS wheels and black leather interior fit my idea of Sporty to a Tee! I can't wait to get my car and drive it, nearly 500 miles to it's new home here in Northern Nevada!

Hi, my name Ivan and I'm from NJ. I went to look at the 2020 Mazda Miata MX-5. I was looking for a soft top. Soon as I arrived to the Mazda dealership. I looked around and none in sight. I went inside the dealership and asked one of the salesman standing around doing nothing (lol) "excuse me sir, you have the 2020 Mazda Miata MX-5 soft tops on the lot"? The salesman just looks at me and laughs and replied "NO". So I called other Mazda dealerships to see if they have the 2020 Mazda Miata soft tops. Some of them answered no and some only had one but it was the hard top the RF. I asked this one lady a saleswoman who answered the phone, I asked her "why doesn't the Mazda dealerships have the Miatas?" and she said, it's because it doesn't sell as good their other Mazda models. So my guess is that no one drives convertibles in NJ, so why bother. I guess I have to go to another state where there is nice sunshine where the people would enjoy the Mazda Miata convertibles.
I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had a good experience looking for your new Miata. My worst experience was was the dealership 5 mins away. In the end I traveled 40 min to buy from a dealership that not only had the car I was looking for at the right price, but that was very professional and response in their communications. BTW, from what I've read the Miata has actually been selling quite well in 2020, although that's throughout the country and not specific to NJ. Hope you find the right place and right car to buy. The Lemon Factor! Thanks for your reply. I’m just not ready to buy yet. Because I have some medical issues I’m having taken care as of this week. I’m gonna be in a recovery mode and go thru some therapy which will take some months. But once I’m good and feeling better. I will be moving to Florida and once I get there,. I will buy the Miata.

Should red crystal metallic is my favorite colour. Easily ! Worst colour I ever bought was artic white. White is SO BORING !

I bought the 2019 Mazda MX-5 RF GT manual in Machine Grey Metallic. I love it! But the colors I would also have chosen was the Snowflake White Pearl Mica. Simply elegant. The Soul Red Crystal Metallic is really nice too, but I'm afraid it's a cop magnet unfortunately, you know. Oh well, I'm happy already anyway.

@@TheLemonFactor It could use a little more horses. Not that it is really slow. Maybe a little more bump from 181 to at least 210-220 would be greatly appreciated! However, living in California is PITA when it comes to modifying cars for more power. Can't do much.
A bump to 210hp would be significant / noticeable. Hopefully via either turbo and supercharging we can get it there ; )

With vinyl wrap, you can change the color to numerous colors. I’m sure you’d be able to find a Barbie Pink 👍. If you do I’d love to see a picture 😁
I’m a white guy. And It makes buying a car so friggin easy. I just bought a used 2020 RF sport AT and love it. (Did have to drive 2 hours to LA to get what I wanted. Also have a white JKUR, and an old white Ram, and wife has white G70(first gen). White guy… lol
Congratulations on your new car!!! I never thought I’d get a white car, but after seeing my other car in white (Honda Accord) I was convinced that was the right color for me. Mazda has a couple white color options, which did you end up getting?

There are several new colors and color combinations since this video was released 👍
A new color here in Spain for 2022 is a brand new white called "Platinum Quartz"- a super bright and shiny white color...and also (not sure if it's 2021 or 2022) a new blue color called "Deep Crystal Blue". The new "Platinum Quartz" white is a super bright white- whiter than existing the Snowflake White Pearl or the Arctic White colors. This comes on a new edition called the "Blue Cap" MX-5 which has a new lighter blue soft top.

I looked for any video or photos of a black Miata and it didn't look as good as I thought. I have seen some cars look great in Black but for some reason the Miata looks an ordinary car and loses its distinct personality. Leaning towards the red one now.
Red is certainly a popular and beautiful color. I found the black looked especially good in the RF, but not so much with the soft top.

I once had a Black Supra. It was always dusty and always looked scratched with swirls etc. It was awful to maintain.
I hear you... I've had several black cars and understand the frustration, but they sure do look good clean and waxed (for however short a period of time that lasts). Actually, I'm pretty happy with the gray as it does hide a lot of the dirt. That black Supra must of looked pretty good though.

got news for you bud other colors show dirt as well, white also shows up dirt bad, I know this because I own premium pearl white car. I also test drove a 2020 miata white that had not been cleaned and it was so unattractive. The first thing I told the salesperson was they really need to get it washed. Surprisingly the one color that didn't look half bad when dirty with all kinds of dirt and dust was the red crystal. I just look dull from a distance and the next day I saw it clean and polished and out in the sun and it blew me away! Stunning!
I have own a lot of black over the decades, and unlike white, gloss black looks stunning at certain angles.Matte black, no. My last gloss black, never got swirls cause I washed it by hand and had it garaged. Stunning at night.
wow way to much analyzing . For me pretty simple I wanted to trade my 2016 GT in blue reflex mica to a 2019 GT with the gts package saw a picture of the eternal blue loved it and was very lucky to find one. Eternal blue with the GTS package pretty rare bought it the day I saw it absolutely love the color everyone that sees loves the color

Pure black or pure white on a car is a bad choice in my opinion. Black hides a lot of body details too easily in the shade and it blends in with the color of asphalt. I hate seeing nice cars all blacked out because you cannot appreciate their shapes. It's like you're trying to hide the car from view. A black color only looks good when it's super clean and polished on a very sunny day. A pure white also lacks depth and is a disservice to a beautiful body. The red on Miata is too common and too punchy for my taste, it has a feminine feel to me on such a curvy body as the RF. This is why I love a good silver color or the grey that you have. Especially with a nice tan or that brown interior. I like the blue option they have but I'd have to see it in person first. I'd prefer a darker, navy blue metallic. I also wondered what a turquoise/teal would look like on the ND Miata.

The most helpful hint: see the car in person under different lighting conditions. My Mazda 3 in blue turned nearly black at sunset. Web page photos are not to be trusted.
On another note, if you are looking to make your channel a success, boil the content down. I'd say that this episode should have gone under ten minutes. Starting about minute 17, it got real bland. Is there something to see here? Use a tripod as for your opening remarks; this was basically a fixed view, but the jiggle is annoying.

Please explain “Taste”? When one thinks of “taste” one thinks of understated elegance! The Mazda MX5 does not reek of “ look what I can afford” ! One always thinks of a Sports Car as being Red, I don’t consider that tasteless, just fun. But the last 3 that I have owned have been in metallic grey, my current one is The Metallic Grey which is beautiful, and does not seem to attract the Friendly Law-enforcement officers!!

The orange just wasn't for me. I have plans for that "boring gray", stay tuned and you'll find out why the gray was purposely chosen.
