DPI deviation is something that I've known about for a while but have yet to actually test. Turns out it's worse than I thought..

would be interesting to see if it differs between the same mouse, testing another mm710 for example.
Yes please
yup I was going to suggest the same, that almost 100dpi deviation is too much to be true
Exactly... and test more entry level gaming mouse .... Like the Viper Mini
of course it does, many of these mice use the same sensors

The consistency for these values would be more important, would love to see the error bars for each mouse and potentially also how speed of the mouse movement effects the accuracy.
I would love to see the consistencies between different sets of mice of the same model than consistencies for the same mice.
Yes, I agree, among mice that are close in value, using multiple samples is super important.
I agree, you can simply change the dpi according to your liking, it's not like you should change mice frequently enough
I've been switching back and forth between the pulsar x2 wireless and the superlight trying to figure out which one I like better. Glad to see they both scored pretty well here in terms of DPI accuracy. You are always asking & answering the important questions.
It would be interesting to compare few copies of same mouse model, and see if it is consistent from factory. Like five G Pro Superlights for example.
I think that's a huge missed opportunity. If the variation between 5 of the same mice is the same as 5 different mice, it's a calibration/QAQC issue

Amazing work to bring DPI deviation to light. One other thing to point out is that varied sensor positions across mice will also affect the feel of the mouse even with no DPI deviation on two different mice that use the same sensor.

I cannot express my happiness that I found out about this channel. Your speech, video and sound quality is just on top. Thank you so much
Awesome work mate! I always assumed it was basic knowledge that the DPI between mice is different regardless of all the internals within, the fact that different mice using the exact sensor will still have deviation is mostly due to the vertical placement of the sensor on the bottom shell.
What people also don't realise, is that when they change mouse skates - this ALSO changes the DPI, e.g. going to thicker Tiger Ice mouseskates causes the sensor to be higher off the mousepad and therefore I had to increase my sensitivity to keep the same DPI.
Amazing work, you are one of the few who finds out the accurate performance testing issues. Too bad you did not test the DAV3

You're gonna make waves in the market. We now demand more DPI consistency thanks to you.
I made markings on my mouse pad so I just set all my games and mice to have the same 360 turn in games. This helps me maintain some of the consistency.
The detail that is in the video is amazing. Awesome content
Good content as always, but avg dpi literally doesnt matter. If you don't "zoom in" on the graphs, and display the full range from 0 to whatever value, then you'll see that relative differences are not that big. The differences between the arm length from person to person is comparable if not larger (upd: actually, it is way larger), not to mention the difference between optimal sensitivity from game to game
Yeah the difference in the DPI of most sensors is like 2%. It's hilarious to me seeing people say they've been "wondering why my other mouse feels WAAY FASTER". Insane placebo going on here.
I'd argue anything from stretching to eating well will affect aim more than a 2% difference in DPI.
The meat riding is insane on this video comment section
I just purchased the Logitech G Pro Superlight and boy am I glad that it had such good results here!
Keep up the testing you really are the only guy I trust in mice that can speak to gameplay and specs
I'm so glad find this channel years ago. Top notch content, as always 🔥
I find your testing to be super accurate to my own 'feel' testing between the older Logi GPW & Viper Ultimate - They feel the '~same' at 1650 & 1600 respectively.
Boss content as always 🙏
Thank you for the awesome video! I would be very interested in knowing, whether the graphs would look differently, if you chose an other mousepad, which doesn't work as well with the superlight, but might work better with f.e. the Viper V2 Pro. You basically "zeroed" the graphs for the superlight that way. Maybe the Artisan Zero would have an ~100% accuracy paired with the viper v2 pro, and then the superlight would have more dpi-deviation on that mousepad vs the v2 pro. Maybe the Logitech G640 works very well with the superlight, but worse on the other mice, and the Artisan Zero is more "optimized" for the Viper V2 Pro. Testing that would be very interesting I guess.
And very time-consuming!
I would have liked to see how repeatable the results are.
I liked that you tested the surface, maybe you should test super hard surface vs super soft surface, to see if this matters.
But it would be nice to see if you get the same results using the same mousepad and mouse if you did the same test 10 time. (where you reinstall the same mousepad and mouse between each test, simulating changing to another mouse where the grip and sensor could be different)
You could also draw circles on top of each other with the mouse and record the position of the mouse and see if all the circles are circles and if they all are lining op. (And test the machine pith pen and paper to make sure you do not have any drifting in the machine.
Generally I like your work, keep it up.👍👍
god i love you man u talk about stuff that no one else does, really appreciate ur channel bless.
Oh wow! This finding is quite fascinating and have never thought about the idea of DPI Deviation from one mouse maker to another. Would have thought manufactures would test their mouses to find out if their mice would be up to spec when it comes to effective DPI. Thanks for bringing awareness to this problem and for the awesome content!
This kind of genuinely unique information is really what makes this channel stand out, keep it up
This matches up to something i'd seen myself and didnt understand
And i find it infinitely fascinating that the mouse and pad i ended up choosing was the Gpro superlight and G640, because of the dozen or so others i own - its the one combo that felt 'right' all the time (I use 1000dpi at 4K)
with all these permutations and combinations of mice, mouse pad, sensor height. sensor base, along with dpi deviation ultimately one has to practice and get used to what you have - no shortcut to achieve precision thanks for the lesson OT
Just found out about this channel, this guy gives you the information spot on without the nonsense, faster paced and just full of information. 10/10 and BTW this video helped me understand why my dpi didn't feel consistent through different mice
This is crazy I never noticed. I’ll have to keep that in mind when I rotate mouses, much appreciated.
If you're someone looking for the worst calibrated mouse to buy, you got plenty of options in the expensive finalmouse and dirt cheap corsair mm710. it's great that manufacturers are producing such wide variety in gaming peripherals.

Would love to see some kind of spread sheet with all your testing done. I’d like to see DPI deviation for the DAV3 w 4K polling rate, DPI deviation on the QcK+, basically gear used traditionally from someone who watched/competed in CS:GO since 2014

Dude! I was planning on making this exact setup by hacking together the movement from a inkjet printer to move computer mice very precisly but you beat me to it and blew it out of the park! Thanks for doing stuff like this! I really appreciate all the time and work you put into your videos!
How the GPX is still so solid while being built on slightly older tech is so insane
i’m guessing it’s the engineering team attention to detail. The mouse had lots of input and research into making it the first mouse with extreme low latency to which led to first competitive overwatch team victory, making wireless mouses popular in first place
That sensor is not that old, and it's still considered high-end.
what is GPX?
Shld be G Pro X superlight
The hero sensor is still one of, if not the best sensor on the market.
dude the content you provide and data are always top notch keep it up!
It might be interesting to look at how dpi deviation varies across the start and tail end of the mouse movement. It might be that first inch is significantly different in deviation to the other 10 inches or whatever you're doing.
Wowzers. That’s some great information for folks who are really skilled at their particular game.
Great stuff!!
This is what I love about your channel. You are focus on every part of the mouse. Everything from technicals of sensors to shape, mods & even gameplay.
This man is on another level 😤! Keep up the great work optimum 😤😤!!
So THIS is why no matter what mouse I try, I end up back at the superlight! Something about it just always felt better to me at 800 dpi. I felt like I was overshooting more with some mice, and coming up short with others, but I had much more consistency with the superlight. Very interesting!
Yea, I am thinking about building some kind of rig that let's me repeat mouse travel precisely over and over.
This way you could find the exact distance for 360° and adjust mice DPI to match it, which should prevent big muscle memory f*ckups.
just measure your 360 distance and adjust your ingame sens accordingly, you should be doing this anyway as every game engine is different.
@@Lemonpinesol I do, but some games don't have as fine adjustment steps as others (some do increments of one, others let you do decimals, etc), and I assumed 800 dpi was the same across all mice.
@@Lemonpinesol Yes, but no. There are tools online to lookup your mouse sensitivity for different titles - lookup „mouse-sensitivity“.
You are supposed to measure ONCE for each mouse you own, then use their database/calculator to find the correct settings in any game you want to play.
Yeah I'm never switching to another mouse I love the superlight
wow~ this is eye opening. thanks for the great work. 👍👏
This is definitely real. all of my 7 mice has different dpi settings. This is really noticeable especially in competitive fps like valorant. any slight change with the eDpi really puts my aim off point
damn in the past I expected the difference to be more miniscule :o explains why for some mouse changes it took me 1-2 weeks or more to feel alright again
impressive how accurate the Logitech superlight sensor is
Actually an INSANE find... awesome video!
If DPI deviation is dependent on the height of the sensor on the mouse, would you say that there would also be some DPI deviation between different copies of the same mouse model, or is this negligible??
highly unlikely, since the mice are created from the same mold.
Very interesting! I appreciate how in-depth all your videos are. :)
bros grammar is on point
I always get excited when you post, regardless of the content of the video
i probably just missed something, but doesn't using the superlight as the test for the mousepad set it as the "correct" dpi? how do you know that the superlight has got the correct dpi? also, great video, i really like that there is someone who tests stuff like this.
Also the G640 can be greatly affected by humidity so results can vary due to the weather conditions

There's a reason why G Pro X Superlight is just so feels safe. This video just proving its consistency with these in-depth testings.
Nope, its because the mouse mat was chosen based on results from GPX Superlight, hence the results were always going to scale to its favour... it will be interesting to see how the GPX and the other mice fare on other mouse mats
@@entropicity The biggest deviation the GPX had when testing mousepads was 10 dpi, so the the results would probably not have been much different.
Your mouse videos are so cool. I'm glad you carved out this niche for yourself.
Did you measure any DPI differences "on the fly"? It sucks if the DPI is different than what it shows in software, but it's even worse if it's not constant.
Phenomenal video Sir! Thank you!
one thing I would be interested in is mouse to mouse variance? For example how far apart are 2 viper minis or 2 superlights etc.
great videos, love the way you approach these topics
Great video, peripherals are often neglected when it comes to the more technical investigations within the UA-cam hardware channel community
Wow another excellent video Mythbusting, love your video bro!
Very cool breakdown.
I do feel like the community obsesses too much about the perfect dpi. Our brains and muscles can adapt, but also our bodies are not exactly the same every day so now I adapt my sense on the fly to how my body feels.
Still tho, if you have multiple mice this insight is helpful. Also speaks to the lack of quality control on the side of the manufacturers
Your job is amazing man, congrats
Love the scientific approach to this. Great video!
Besides skewed graphs with skewed axis.
Awesome video. I always wondered this and assumed it was true.
These graphs just proves how well built the Superlight and X2 sensors are. Great video as always OT!
@@erisium6988 It definitely matters for people who often change their mice. I know some people who have like 6 mice in rotation, so accuracy is very important
They all use similar sensors from one or two manufacturers. The research just says "every company calibrates differently"
Super informational and useful video, the aimers are very appreciative brother thank you
People with good aim should be able to use any cm. Personally DPI Deviation doesn’t matter. It’s a reason not to keep swapping mice and staying consistent.
Nice to see Ali taking over where Battle(non)sense left off in the precision testing and measurement of PC gaming peripherals! This community desperately needed someone to do this!!!

Anyone else watching this realizing they buy to many mice?
How can you be so awesome? I love your angle to the technical reviews.
Amazing content; would love to see this list expanded with mice reviews.
This kind of objective testing is exactly why I subscribed to your channel. I haven't seen any other "gaming tech reviewers" on youtube putting in the work to produce similar content.
I'm so glad you made this video. For years friends of mine don't believe me when I say that different mice set to the same cpi actually have different actual cpi vs the nominal cpi set in software. Some people don't believe it unless a large youtube channel has a video out so now I can point to this as proof haha
Top notch work as usual! The deviation from target graph was the best layout for this data, since it expressly shows the purpose of your research as opposed to the bar graphs listing total dpi (which is empirical and informative, but not the meat of your point)
this is the way i have always set my settings in game - and by that i mean - accounting for the fact that settings and dpi do not always correlate 1 to 1. I have a small 8 inch mouse mat i have kept, because it accurately reflects the amount of distance I like my mouse to travel to do a 180deg turn. it ends up being about 6 inches of travel to move the mouse from one edge (left side) to the other edge (right side) because of the width of the mouse. So when I start a new game (like Startled recently) I adjust everything so that I do 180deg turn when moving across the mat. this makes all my games movement feel nearly identical from Dayz to CoD to Borderlands3 to Starfield. There are slight differences, obviously, but it makes the games feel so much more similar and your reflexive movements tend to retain a lot better across the games.
edit: remember mouse acceleration should always be turned off. in game and in windows. you do not want your cursor moving different distances when you move at different speeds, this destroys your muscle memory as you try to play the game faster and faster - you'd constantly need to adjust.
Great information. I was having this issue currently.
BRO. The timing of this video is insane. Just last night I was in Aim Labs and switching between 4 different mice and something felt off. I couldn't perform consistently at all! Now it all makes sense. Speaking of sens :p I would recommend adjusting dpi on each mouse and not in game (if you're someone who switches between different mice often). Thanks Ali.
Using Aim Labs is the first mistake tbh
Goddamn, after all this time, the GPX shows why it's the most accurate on the list. Awesome test.

originally skipped this video but definitely glad i came back to check it out. interesting stuff
I didn't understand and I had the impression that I had a problem, because since I'd changed mouse I couldn't aim as well while keeping the same settings, I had an impression of speed and lack of control. Then I came across this video, and I finally understood that the problem wasn't with me but with the fact that not all mice behave in the same way with the same DPI value... Thanks for the clarification.
This has been in my mind when I first bought my superlight and wondered if dpi in all mice is the same. Glad you touched on this topic
The more important point is consistency. DPI is not so important as long you get all the time the same result…
