The power of now - book by Eckhart Tolle

Time present and time past are both perhaps present in time future, and time future contained in time past. If all time is eternally present all time is unredeemable. What might have been is an abstraction remaining a perpetual possibility only in a world of speculation. What might have been and what has been point to one end, which is always present.
    T.S. Eliot

..there is no in, within, and without. Form is the formless aspect of that which can be labelled as the conscious present moment. The formless aspect. Bubbles in a bath sponge, the hole that pushes humans to the world of the senses. Null. Void. Blank. This is why everything comes from a hole, because it is not. There is no gap between objects because there are no objects. Spacetime is not there. It is I that is not. There is also no empty space. That would imply a within and a without. There is only I am.
All appears to I, because it be the formless aspect of I am, which itself is I am. I that is aware. I am that I am. I am.
Now, here is the interesting fiction - Consciousness is a language. As form is a language. The Language of Consciousness is the true language of I. The artifact is the language of form. Form exists so I can appear to grow. But in truth, I am complete because I am (now).
The Language of Consciousness is now, as is the language of form. Why am I aware of THIS? Because THIS is. Why is THIS? Because I am. There is no cause and effect - causation. All be now.
So why do "we" not experience the manifestation of form in this way? Because that is how we experience we. It is I that experiences I as now and it is also I that experiences we!
It is not a two way street. That would imply dualism. So how does time appear to unfold in one way? Why am I aware of THIS...
The illusion appears to flow/move in every way. But in truth, there is no position nor is there any opposition of I am.
I am neither beginning nor am I ending.
I am neither more than, nor am I less than.
I am neither knowing nor am I unknowing.
    I am that I am.
    I am.

Can you elaborate on the assumption that consciousness is not situated in the body/brain/material? Obviously with damaging brain material a decrease in understood consciousness can occur. I'd guess that you would counter this and say that the individual consciousness that we experience is already a reduction of the 'expanded consciousness' which humans can experience under certain spiritual experiences; though it does not really provide an explaination for the further reduction of an individual consciousness experience in the event of brain damage - which ofcourse can be measured and is therefor a proven fact.

Yes absolutely, but what will make it easier for you to understand is if you can elaborate on why it’s an assumption?
We have to first see how I define consciousness. Consciousness is simply the knowing or aware aspect of experience.
The mind is that which consciousness perceives.
Therefore the brain is also that which consciousness perceives and is what we could call a localisation of the mind.
When the brain gets damaged, that says nothing about the knowing aspect of experience.
So I agree it’s proven that the brain being damaged can effect our state of mind, but it does not change the pure knowing aspect of experience.
Pure knowing is not a function or appearance or object of the mind. It stands outside the mind. We know this experientially by checking if there is any thought, image or perception required in order to know that I am aware? We find there is one.
So with that being said, what is the question you’d like to ask? I see no problem here with what you’ve said really.
      I would add,
There’s no “degree” of understood consciousness. There is simply knowing. Awareness. Even if we don’t know what we are aware of because of brain damage, we are, and can never not be aware.
Even if we were to be knocked out by anestesia, we don’t actually experience the cessation of awareness. We experience the cessation of the mind.
Because the mind disappears it doesn’t mean consciousness disappears.
We assume we are aware “because I experience a world” on the contrary this is an assumption.
We are aware because we are awareness and awareness, by nature, knows itself without the need of any objective knowledge or mind.
This is a huge recognition. It’s the first signal that maybe consciousness is not located in the brain. Then when we go deeper in that direction, we find that it’s not.
I can’t convince, nor do I care to convince, anyone in the comments, but I do like this question. I’ve build a community to help answer this question.
There’s a great book on this called “the nature of consciousness” by Rupert Spira. He talks of his direct experience of pure awareness.
I’ll make a video on this specifically on my own experience in future because I get asked this question a lot (and rightly so) it is the core and fundamental question for true and ultimate happiness. So I’m glad you asked.
