I don't think you should look at silksong as something that necessarily has to be "BIGGER" and "BETTER" than its predecessor but instead understand that it's a different game which will come with its own experiences, which means everyone's opinion of a game is subjective to their own expectations really.
I don't know if it'll be 'better', whatever that means. It'll just be different and based on what we've seen, I definitely think it'll appeal to me, personally, a lot more. And that's really all I'm expecting from the game.
I'm actually hoping for a different kind of storytelling in silksong. I hope it's more linear and direct rather than indirect, and I think if so, we can get even better soundtrack because of it, if that makes sense.

Once someone explained the lore, I totally understood, but trying to find it all in the game would be impossible. She has great potential no doubt, but I have the impression that she will not feel as natural to control at the end of the day.
I don't think he meant that Hornet will be boring. I think he just meant that the knight is simple and has very good reaction, control, jump height & variation, fall speed, etc. Hornet may have a larger moveset and a faster speed but that doesnt automatically translate to more fun to use, although I do agree with your opinion besides your reasoning
Adding more content seems like a good thing but I hope there’s not any padding to squeeze out runtime that’s why I feel skeptical about the quest system
Silksong will be better, no matter what anyone will say. Watching the trailers, you can see that animation, looks, and enemies look so much better and cooler than the first game in the series. I just wonder what Team Cherry's plan is once they finish Silksong 🤔
As for me Slksong might end up being a bit worse. Those tools Hornet has seem really complicated. One thing I really liked about Hollow Knight is the simplicity of the combat and the movement. In the best case Silksong will be just as good as Hollow Knight.

The game is a lot less intriguing than the original, my favourite part about hollow knight was the worldbuilding of hallownest, i'm just not as intrigued by pharloom. At the same time the gameplay seems a lot more different, more fast paced, I'm still excited none the less
3:20 isnt improving the moveset the main thing team cherry wanted to do in the first place? like when it was supposed to be a dlc, but hornet was too agile for hallownest. they marketed the 2nd playable character ''with new abilities''. so theyre implying that the main premise of playing as hornet is having these cool tricks and moves. also crests literally change how u attack. theres so much variety and its gonna be way way more fun since u can play however u want. its pretty obvious the moveset is gonna be better because u still get to use the knight's moves (the pogo thanks to one of the crests, shade cloak which consumes silk so u dont have to equip anything to use it, dash which is just dash but cooler looking, chargable great slash). so ure not really losing many abilities, only the ones which consume soul, but we're probably gonna get something similar enough. also the healing is faster and u can do it mid air, which definitely is more fun than standing still for some time holding the button waiting for the animation to finish. like to me this isnt even a debate, i thought its just obvious that hornet is going to be more fun to play than the knight. maybe more annoying because of the voice acting but we will see what they come up with
The cool thing is, Silksong is basically guaranteed to have more content. I can't remember my exact source... but iirc, Hollow Knight has 51 checkpoints (benches), and Silksong will have over 100!
To me, it doesn't matter if the game's better or worse than hk. It's Team Cherry and I believe that they will deliver a game that'll suck me right in and won't let go until 100%, just as hk did.
Maybe people don't realize, or it's just not talked about, but there is a limit to how big/vast a metroidvania can get before it "outstays it welcome"/fall under it's own weight. It needs to hit that sweet spot of "Wow, this is big", without repeating itself too much, or becoming a grind, or a fetch quest game, or obtuse in what the label of the game describes. With that said: Will Silksong even BE a metroidvania? is Hollow Knight a metroidvania? Hollow Knight has a big amount of freedom from the get go, and the devs wanted it that way. Silksong can be a game that has metroidvania elements, but is more of an.. open world in 2d space? Who knows. The clickbait title Wyrn has chosen is one I don't like. I wish it was true, but I doubt it. Hollow Knight is just way too good of a game, and lightning doesnt strike twice. Silksong will be an amazing game, but I think the expectations people have for silksong are wildly unrealistic, people should just enjoy what they get.
A few small complaints I had with hollow knight came a lot down to the combat-related systems. good example is in the early game, the combat can be pretty boring, and not very dynamic. simple 'video gamey' enemy AI doesn't help with this issue. Silksong looks like it's fixing all of these issues with more dynamic and responsive gameplay along with more expansive combat systems and more complex enemy AI, to make them feel more alive. I don't know if the lore will be as good but i think the gameplay will definitly be better
I feel like Hollow knight has left a tiny gap between it and the roof and either Silksong blows the roof open or squeezes as much into that little gap.
Might be suffering from the totk effect where long development makes you think it’s going to be the best game ever and then it isn’t and the fact that it’s not perfect makes you like it a lot less because it’s not what your expecting - either perfection or you don’t like as much at all

my biggest beef with hollow knight was long walk backs to boss fights. I don't mind dying a lot but the back tracking feels disrespectuflly time wastey.
i think the worst critique i could give Hollowknight is its pacing which was super slow at the begining and middle. I imagine this is something that the devs couldnt see well since they didnt have many playtesters and already knew all of the secrets in the game. but now they have plenty of game testers and i beleive of everything they will improve the pacing between games. that said im confident that ss will be considered just as much a masterpiece if not more than hk.

My only wosh for this game is to have customisable difficulty settings like in the lost crown cause the first game is KICKING MY ASS especially as an absolute noob, ive played like 3 metroidvanias so far lmao...like genuinely it took me like atleast 10 tried to get through hornet 1 and i atill haven't managed to beat the manyis lords after ATLEAST 30 tries and 3 nail upgrades... Deffo a skill issue but my point still stands
I'm surprised at how much praise you have for the Knight's moveset. I think it's a little barebones personally. No real combos , only one way to dodge attacks, and the spells themselves are pretty basic. Part of this is definitely because of the limitations of 2D, but I've played plenty of 2D games that feel much more engaging to fight in. I think the best part about hollow knight is the exploration, but the combat and lack of customization makes me not very willing to revisit the game. Hopefully silksong has a much deeper combat system. Unrelated, my pick for best/favorite metroidvania is Super Metroid
we've already seen from the trailers that the silksong combat is alot more advanced, you'll be able to make different items/abilities that you can use, and every attack that hornet does in the main game will also be doable
3:36 the lead play-tester for hollow knight said that Team Cherry believed that more content of lesser quality is better than less content of higher quality. I would disagree, but seeing as they think the content in hollow knight to be a fair way from perfect, I trust that if Silksong has more content than Hollow Knight with quality to their standards, it's guaranteed to be better than Hollow Knight. Of course, it's mostly up to the player's preference, but if Team Cherry with their standards make a lot of content, especially content that they've been "polishing" for quite a long time now, there is a very high chance for enjoyers of Metroidvania-type games to love Silksong.
TLDR: Team Cherry thinks the content isn't that close to perfect (when it is to most of us) and they believe more 'worse' content is better, meaning there's a high chance Silksong will have more content
With all the time spend on Silksong, I can only imagine it being at least as good as HK. My only wish is adding an easy mode. HK was too difficult to 100% for me
Hoenstly my biggest fear isnt whether the game will be better or worse, my biggest concern is whether silksong will have it's own identity or just "Hollow knight 2." Even if it adds new bosses, mechanics, and abilities, if the game's structure is too similar to hk's thats a pretty big problem. They have to take a new route at story, progression, and just make the game feel different. In fact, I think if this game didn't blow hk out of the water, because then people(especially new fans) wouldn't bother playing the first. Silksong should be a completely different game, but still have that hollow knight feeling(does that make sense?) Based off trailers and gameplay so far, do I think cherry is doing that? Kinda. There are some completelly new things I found cool, but some things still feel samey(maybe not a bad thing tho idk)

Yes, please, make a top 10 MV, always enjoyable to hear more input. On the SS subject, your prediction of a better OST is possibly the hardest aspect to achieve. Hopefully I'm wrong, we'll see what Larkin pulls off his sleeve, but the first game, while not having the best OST ever, had flawless scores (and inherent emotions) associated with environments or situations. City of Tears, Sealed Vessels and White Palace are a few noteworthy examples (amongst many). My expectations of a great OST for SS are still high as I believe music was a mandatory part to making Hollow Knight a masterpiece.
The other things for me that potentially make Silksong a better game: (potentially) Hornet's movements are quicker agile and more dynamic. The combat in Silksong seems more balletic almost rhythmic. I think it'll be easy to get into a flow state. Much like say dead Cells. I think i'll prefer that to HK. Also Hornet talks, she's a more interesting protagonist her interactions will be more fun. Also the world of Pharloom is more vibrant than Hallownestm theres more life and much more going on.

Are we still waiting for a 5 years + game to release and be better than HK? Because at this point I think that they truly stopped the development of SS long ago but for any reason they don’t want/can release it yet. I’d love to take all this back but 5 years after was announced, if it ever get released, I hope a massive and unhealthy amount of content.
It is still 50/50. But People will likely be disappointed. People will just expect way to much. I don’t find Hollow Knight as great as others say. That’s my opinion. I think it is far from the best Metroidvania.
i think a great thing they can expand upon(which i think they are doing) is the combat. not that swinging your nail around isnt fun but doing all that stuff it shows in the trailers looks like an absolute blast and could add some serious depth to an otherwise basic combat system. all the tools and special moves make me excited. i cant wait to see builds i like and dislike and etc.

HK soundtrack is a masterpiece. Christopher Larkin will have to compete with himself, wich is an impossible challenge in his case

Maybe silksong wasn’t meant to be compared to hollow knight

My only wosh for this game is to have customisable difficulty settings like in the lost crown cause the first game is KICKING MY ASS especially as an absolute noob, ive played like 3 metroidvanias so far lmao...like genuinely it took me like atleast 10 tried to get through hornet 1 and i atill haven't managed to beat the manyis lords after ATLEAST 30 tries and 3 nail upgrades... Deffo a skill issue but my point still stands
I recommend trying the fights for a bit without attacking at all, learn the attacks, then do it with attacking.
I'm surprised at how much praise you have for the Knight's moveset. I think it's a little barebones personally. No real combos , only one way to dodge attacks, and the spells themselves are pretty basic. Part of this is definitely because of the limitations of 2D, but I've played plenty of 2D games that feel much more engaging to fight in.
I think the best part about hollow knight is the exploration, but the combat and lack of customization makes me not very willing to revisit the game. Hopefully silksong has a much deeper combat system.
Unrelated, my pick for best/favorite metroidvania is Super Metroid
we've already seen from the trailers that the silksong combat is alot more advanced, you'll be able to make different items/abilities that you can use, and every attack that hornet does in the main game will also be doable
I just hope the story is as good

i think a good thing about the content is to have more stuff thats not nessisary for the main story but can be done during or after the story
the devs said it: hollow knight is a cheap and raw version of what we inteded it to do. silksong will be the real deal

3:36 the lead play-tester for hollow knight said that Team Cherry believed that more content of lesser quality is better than less content of higher quality. I would disagree, but seeing as they think the content in hollow knight to be a fair way from perfect, I trust that if Silksong has more content than Hollow Knight with quality to their standards, it's guaranteed to be better than Hollow Knight. Of course, it's mostly up to the player's preference, but if Team Cherry with their standards make a lot of content, especially content that they've been "polishing" for quite a long time now, there is a very high chance for enjoyers of Metroidvania-type games to love Silksong.
TLDR: Team Cherry thinks the content isn't that close to perfect (when it is to most of us) and they believe more 'worse' content is better, meaning there's a high chance Silksong will have more content

With all the time spend on Silksong, I can only imagine it being at least as good as HK.
My only wish is adding an easy mode. HK was too difficult to 100% for me

Hoenstly my biggest fear isnt whether the game will be better or worse, my biggest concern is whether silksong will have it's own identity or just "Hollow knight 2." Even if it adds new bosses, mechanics, and abilities, if the game's structure is too similar to hk's thats a pretty big problem. They have to take a new route at story, progression, and just make the game feel different. In fact, I think if this game didn't blow hk out of the water, because then people(especially new fans) wouldn't bother playing the first. Silksong should be a completely different game, but still have that hollow knight feeling(does that make sense?) Based off trailers and gameplay so far, do I think cherry is doing that? Kinda. There are some completelly new things I found cool, but some things still feel samey(maybe not a bad thing tho idk)

But something I’ve noticed in the demo is the shell shards used to repair tools can run out, and if you’re fighting a boss and they run out you can’t really use tools, making it much harder. Idk if this would be an actual issue or if they completely changed the system but it’s kinda interesting to think abt.

Yes, please, make a top 10 MV, always enjoyable to hear more input. On the SS subject, your prediction of a better OST is possibly the hardest aspect to achieve. Hopefully I'm wrong, we'll see what Larkin pulls off his sleeve, but the first game, while not having the best OST ever, had flawless scores (and inherent emotions) associated with environments or situations. City of Tears, Sealed Vessels and White Palace are a few noteworthy examples (amongst many). My expectations of a great OST for SS are still high as I believe music was a mandatory part to making Hollow Knight a masterpiece.

The other things for me that potentially make Silksong a better game: (potentially)
Hornet's movements are quicker agile and more dynamic. The combat in Silksong seems more balletic almost rhythmic. I think it'll be easy to get into a flow state. Much like say dead Cells. I think i'll prefer that to HK.
Also Hornet talks, she's a more interesting protagonist her interactions will be more fun.
Also the world of Pharloom is more vibrant than Hallownestm theres more life and much more going on.

I also hope they don’t make some sections tedious, spending 40 mins to an hour for one attempt at a boss and if you die you get sent all the way back is ridiculous.

Because at this point I think that they truly stopped the development of SS long ago but for any reason they don’t want/can release it yet. I’d love to take all this back but 5 years after was announced, if it ever get released, I hope a massive and unhealthy amount of content.
It is still 50/50. But People will likely be disappointed. People will just expect way to much. I don’t find Hollow Knight as great as others say. That’s my opinion. I think it is far from the best Metroidvania.

i think a great thing they can expand upon(which i think they are doing) is the combat. not that swinging your nail around isnt fun but doing all that stuff it shows in the trailers looks like an absolute blast and could add some serious depth to an otherwise basic combat system. all the tools and special moves make me excited. i cant wait to see builds i like and dislike and etc.
I would find it funny if hornet had a smaller hitbox than her size and if a projectile happens to hit her mask instead of her body her head will get knocked back
i'm really sure that modders will add silksong bosses in hollow knight.
