Honestly never thought it was like a rip-off or something. It clearly has been inspired by, in a lot of things, but man, that game shines on his own, it looks absolutely badass and I can’t wait to play it.
when i saw it for the first time i was so hyped, even more than for silksong, it was surprising and annoying to see the hk community attack this game for no reason

I'm usually pretty critical of hollow knight inspired games. Just can't help but roll my eyes when i see yet another hand-drawn dark moody mysterious metroidvania. But i really see no reason to hate on Crowsworn, because it does more than enough to not be a copy. It feels like the team actually wants to make something unique, not too focused on copying. Seriously, Bloodborne Hollow Knight? Count me the fuck in

whenever I hear about a crowdfunded game getting a stupid amount of money I genuinely hope they don't expand their vision based on the money. often times the feature creep that that amount of money brings is what causes so many of these projects to fall flat, instead I hope they keep their vision as is and use the money simply to get some better equipment and make their work schedule a bit more flexible
And they could use the extra $ to develop DLC after release, and give it to backers free if they wanted to. Despite hating comparing everything to Hollow Knight, that’s something they did super well IMO… a good sized game was expanded a fuck ton after the fact and the game as we love it now was created over time not rushed or crammed with bs to appease anyone.
Well luckily they had tier goals so theoretically each extra bit of money would simply go to things they promised like a boss rush mode at 200k, voice acting at 375k, new levels for a few tiers, animated cutscenes at 1 mill & so on. They seem to have it planned out well so as far as kickstarters go I’m not too worried about feature creep
Tbh from what I know (which isn't much) a lot of developers would maybe even start all over again knowing they have more time to make everything better and bigger, I don't see that as a bad thing, that's why that much money is dangerous as he said in the video and could be overwhelming, but people would definitely criticize if it lacks content for the amount of money they gave
I backed this game during the kickstarter BECAUSE it looked so much like Hollow Knight. I have no idea why people always say "don't copy Hollow Knight", like bruh isn't more Hollow Knight exactly what we want tho? Besides, Crowsworn has its own unique flair to it that makes it stand alongside Hollow Knight rather than stand in its shadow.

As a hollow knight fan I never understood the hate for crowsworn. I personally very excited for it.
they dunk on the devs yet they seem to ignore teamcherry had similar issues but didnt handle it well like how the crowsworn devs did
Because it copies too much from HK, see 0:33 dive and 3:18 godhome looking room, it's good to take inspiration from games but things like this just cross the line, even if the gameplay is unique the style of the game is waaay to similar which is something each game should have on it's own

@@Loderyod yeah but so are other games like enter gungeon and death road to Canada, but yet you don't see people dunking on them. even though they are also the same game genre I just think that if people are going to be overly critical towards crowsworn they should also be the same towards other games where a similar thing happens. but I just seems like people can't handle the fact that hollow knight isn't the only metroidvania allowed to exist.

You wanna know something at first I wasn’t feeling crowsworn but after I watch the trailers, watch some videos and analysis videos, especially from pogobro it open my eyes, and I am pretty much excited for this game once it comes out

I absolutely love hollow knight and I think it’ll be one of my favorite games forever, but I actually like the fact that they’re doing something similar without completely copying hollow knight, it just gives me more games to play that are similar to the game I love so much, I see it all as an absolute W

Seems overly reductionist. Games share parts all the time, what makes something a rip-off is how similar it is holistically to other things.
It's kinda silly to imply that people are specifically looking for reasons to call this a ripoff when plenty of people wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between this and hk

not sure how I’ve never heard of this game until now, but it looks sooo cool. people will really call any up coming metroidvania game a hollow knight rip off despite it just being a genre, and that makes me so sad.

We all know the gameplay and combat is unique but the game has to separate that art style and design from HK, trying to defend the game while showing those scenes looks really bad, the rest (at least 99%) of the inspired from HK games have unique art style and designs, this game sadly sometimes looks like a reskin HK and it really doesn't deserve it

@@superbeta1716 I think you do not understand how a 2d game works. Creating 2D backgrounds requires them to not pop out too much, have no clutter and still be atmospheric and fitting in a gothic world. Having a dark lit room with yellow colours is not a hollow knight thing. It is how you create the gothic church atmosphere.

As crazy as this is, I think I'm equally excited for Crowsworn and Hollow Knight Silksong. This game looked incredible from the first trailer, and it continues to impress with every new video or artwork that we get to see! Great video, hopefully they can continue to deal with the pressure of having so much support and deliver a fantastic end product.
between this, Nine Sols, and Silksong the next couple years are covered in the metroidvania department for me haha

Devs should take as long as they need when making a game in order to make it good because frankly there is no shortage of great indie games right now so they should try to make it stand out or people won't play it. Boss fights being a representation of their environment is a cool concept but I get how it can get stale after a few bosses or even if the boss is too much like the enemies in that area like the mossy charger boss in greenpath.

That is not inspiration, that is straight up copying the art style and desing of HK, this game should really go into a different art style. the combat is good and unique but the art draws too much from HK

I was ecstatic to find out about Crowsworn, I am a bitch for the spooky plague doctor aesthetics and I was so mad I couldn’t back it on Kickstarter because I didn’t have an account at the time. I can’t wait for it to come out I’m so excited :D
I don’t understand how people can hate this when they love Hollow Knight. It’s clearly a very polished game and looks super fun to play. If I ever saw one of my favourite games get a clone / copy, I’d happily buy it given it looks fun, interesting and well polished
I think people are mostly upset by the fact this game has clearly copied HK's art style. Just because you are talented enough to copy somebody else's style, it doesn't make it
okay to profit from that style, because developing an art style is a very complex task that requires time and money. The devs are effectively sparing money and time by not developing their own art style and taking the one from HK, without Team Cherry consenting to it (as far as I understand).
The fact that this game might be effectively fun to play is irrelevant to the point.
Talking about upcoming metroidvanias, i would like to have an update by the devs of The Last Faith, It IS one of the games i am more hyped about. Crowsworn seems to be much more alive.
And i wanted to ask you: do yo think Meifumado IS a scam?

to my understanding, Meifumado devs had a large disagreement and the project is pretty much dead at this point. Which sucks it looked like an awesome project

This was the first game I've ever backed- From the moment I saw the first trailer I knew we had something special on our hands. And as a diehard hk fan? It's like a bloodborne/hollow knight/dark souls crossover c'mon!!! What more do you need?? Thank you for putting more eyes on this! For now I await my copy with great anticipation, and read all the backer updates lovingly.

I just heard about this game, as someone who is a hollow knight fan I am surprised this was called a rip off at all, the moves you presumably learn all look and act differently than the moves in HK and the movement system reminds me of Ori more than anything else. I am interested in getting this game now and hopefully it can tie me over until silksong (hopefully) releases.

Small point, but Hornet Sentinel isn't technically a required fight if you just want to get to an ending.
Low key forgot about crowsworn until I saw the thumbnail and now I’m exited again lol, I await patiently for them to know they’ve got it right because it does look sick

5:48 Not even Hornet 2. If you aren't going for true ending and just want to finish the base story you only need to fight like, what, between 5 to 7 bosses before the "final boss"?

@@Pogobro never fought Hornet 2, never even found it. Same with the hive or the traitor lord. It’s not part of the main story.
@@redking36 I reccomend checking both the hive and hornet 2 out. Hive is probably my favorite area and Hornet 2 is a GREAT boss. You...you can skip traitor lord lol

That's crazy that mantis lords were optional lol, on my casual play it was one of the first bosses i ended up at in the entire game and opened up Deepnest

Just a note, but the guy on the right at 0:57 is Matthew Griffin - not a dev! He does Marketing and Publishing for Crowsworn -and- Hollow Knight (where he's known in the community as Leth)

i have to say, i love how this game looks, hope it turns out well
The main reason why people are saying it’s a ripoff is because of all the lighting, art design, the way the layers are set up for the background, is directly from hollow night or at least way too heavy of inspiration for it to be called original art design. I still think it’s going to be original as in fights and boss design as well as story hopefully, but the art is definitely something that was taken straight from hollow knight.
I've never heard of this game and now want to play it.

I want to add to the shovel knight boss design theory, a boss fight could also be a counter to the enemies in the area. So like if the enemies are focused on range, the boss could the about closing the gap. Basically, a boss that is designed to be able to kill the enemies before it. So maybe it can be like a boss fight about not only the tactics you learned before hand, but also on how to counter counters?? I don’t know how to properly explain this, maybe it did make sense? Idk.

I saw a gameplay demo of crowsworn, it has its clear influences but I think it’s unique enough to stand on its own
I really felt like the Kickstarter backer demo played very different to HK, the game feel is quite unique despite the obvious inspirations and this game is actually super promising, I can't wait for this game

i havent heard of crowsworn until i came across this video, so here are my thoughts on the game, im gonna use only the footage provided in this video. Crowsworn looks like a great game, i especially like the what looks like upgrading your weapon which appears to be a gun, the biggest problem i have is that some the locations look very similar to hollow knight to the point where i would count it as copying it from hollow knight, one example is what looks like a spiders nest (youll never guess which area i think it looks like) which appears on 3:21, it looks very similar to everyones favorite place, deepnest ,especially near the beasts den, although i do see alot of original areas. despite the little amount of issues i have with it, it looks great, and ill definitely buy it, i also like that there looks like there will be more abilities or atleast more movement focused abilities, and the "grafting" system looks interesting!

There's a kind of powerful energy in seeing a popular game and going, "yeah that's good, but I can do it just as well if not better."
The animations and art style are so good and the movement looks like tons of fun! The amount of love and hard work put into this is what makes the game not a rip off. If it was sloppy and looks like it was made in 3 days, that’s different, but this game looks amazing and has been in development for 2 years now, which is what separates it from those ripoffs.
the game on 1:41 is called nine sols and another cool one used earlier was called Ender lilies

of course the last frame of this video included the massive rump of the cook enemy in silksong
I know it’s been out for a while, in fact I’ve owned it for a while but I’ve only recently started playing Hollow Knight (was never a Metroidvania guy but now I’m loving them) and I didn’t realize HK had become one of my favorite games until about halfway through this video…
Side note; I saw a very short trailer for crowsworn a long time ago, didn’t remember the name and have been looking for it ever since because it looked like DMC.
I've been dying to play this, nearly on the same level as SilkSong, because of I love Bloodborne and this is a cross of two of my favorite games. Hopefully that big Kickstarter helps the game flourish lmao.

I just love when haters use the "it has a pogo jump in it so its a HK rip off !" card like its Hollow Knight who invented it although it was already present in DuckTales on NES in 1989. Just the "its a rip off" makes no sense, it has its own personality, mechanics and art style. Its a metroidvania not a "Hollowknightvania" lol

You make a good point about bosses and their biomes, sometimes you need to throw a wretch at the players with a boss that doesn't belong, using hollow knight best example I can think of is the dung beetle
yeah Dung Defender is great because while it kind of makes sense for a dung beetle to be in a sewer, he is a complete tonal shift from the creepy atmosphere and enemies of the level.

I've been looking forever for a game to give the same feeling as Hollow Knight if it could surpass it that would make my world.
I've been hyped for crowsworn for a while now and from the looks of it, in terms of gameplay and bosses, it looks like it'll surpass HK. However, in terms of the level design and pacing, I'm unsure if Crowsworn will match HK but I'm super excited to play it
I get it feels sorta similar, but it looks really cool and I wanna play it
By hearing that this game wil lbe similar to HK, i would love to play it. Thou if i could change the slashes a bit (by for example changing the weapon) i would gladly do it, to get some new fresh combat. The only one thing that always bugged me in HK that you can't change your weapon. Like when my friend told me about a nailsmith when i started playing, i thought about changing my weapon into a spear. But it doesn't stopped me from enjoying the game
I knew that hollow knight had a bunch of optional bosses but not much else when I bought it. To me, they were not optional, and the first time I completed the game I had 109% of the possible total 112%. Needless to say, Crowsworn will have no optional bosses in my eyes

Fun fact that all the hollow knight “protectors” seems to miss, one of my all time favorite games Salt and Sanctuary, came out BEFORE Hollow Knight and shares quite a few similarities. However having played both games you don’t see me screeching about how they copied S&S (To clarify, they didn’t). I respect and love both games and I think new games like Crowsworn, (Which also seems to be taking some inspiration from S&S) deserve a fair shot. I also feel the need to clarify I’m not saying Hollow Knight copied S&S, just that if we really look into it, people forming baseless accusations while turning a blind eye towards something their own logic says is the case is super hypocritical and they could tone it down a bit.
Some of the other mechanics in Crowsworn remind me of GRIME, which is a fantastic game

I backed Crowsworn with a decent chunk of cash, and my only concern is that the screen is going to get overwhelming. Cool shit is only cool if my brain can process it haha. Im super pumped for the game. Its going to be great.

To be fair (and I haven't watched past 5:35 yet so idk if you mentioned this), the bosses being optional might mean they're making paths you can find to avoid them if you want. Could promote replayability to have multiple routes to try each playthrough

I think the most similar part of the games (besides the entire genre they are in) is the "body parts system" Which is clearly just the charm systen but it looks badass
oh and probably the uh "HIT ENEMIES TO GET STUFF TO HIT MORE ENEMIES" stuff (like soul)
