He did mention the USS New Jersey but left out while Missouri sat for 30 years, along with the Iowa and Wisconsin, the New Jersey was still in the fight in many hot spots around the world. It is the highest "mileage" of the Iowas.
So very true... which is why the New Jersey is the most decorated battleship in US history -- and, therefore, yeah... the best. Of course, I might be a bit biased... having served aboard her.
awesome video my Grandpa served on this ship durning the Korean War. He was a Seaman 3rd class helping with food service and loading guns. RIP Grandpa Roger Eugene Kelley 1/29/1935-6/19/2013
tip, when filming outside, add extra foam to your cameras mic for a wind screen, and you can reduce all that clipping in the audio that ruins your great video on a windy day like this
She's berthed in Camden NJ a very dangerous city. Still, though visit the ship folks but be out of the city by sundown. They should have put her elsewhere IMO, but I understand as that was her birthplace.
@@kman-mi7su should have been in the Hudson in Bayonne or Liberty State Park. Camden isn't too bad where the New Jersey is. I've been to several night time events on the New Jersey. If you stay on the "safe corridor" when driving in and out of Camden all is good
Interesting that they can't shoot the 16" guns forward. I would have thought they would have planned things so they could do that. I'm sure they knew what they were doing.
only thing wrong is the guns can be fired forward to the side 5 or ten degrees or fired with guns trained port and starboard at the same time have been on the focsle during a broad side escorting a news crew had to brace against the antenna supports to keep from being knocked down but not bad. 5 inch are louder.

I just toured the Iowa last week. I'm big on military history and WWII specifically. I was impressed with that ship. There's nothing like these warhorses in our Navy anymore. Fun fact a docent told us on the ship. In WWII when the surrender was to take place, Truman, as Captain Mead here said...was president. By all rights, the Flag ship of the fleet was the USS Iowa, it was designed as the flag ship of the Iowa class...but Truman being from Missouri, sent that ship instead. I'm curious to know ho much of a tour is allowed on the Missouri. On the Iowa, it's limited to the main deck, the bridge, officer/captain's quarters, 1 crew compartment that leads toward the mess and that's it. most below decks were closed off to the tour which kind of disappointed me, though because of narrow corridors, steep ladders I can see why they restrict it so much. I still would have liked to have toured the ship in it's entirety though.
Watch battle ship USS Missouri is in that movie but not Acualy firing lol you can tell because the guns are capped and well... That would be dangerous on a ship as old as the drywall on my house (60)
No they were not. Only New Jersey served in Vietnam. Iowa, New Jersey, Mo and Wisconsin were all decommissioned post Korean War. In 1967 only New Jersey was recommissioned until 1969 where it was decommissioned again. From 82-86 all 4 were again recommissioned. Next time try watching the video, Capt. Mead mentions 3 times that Mo was tied up in Bremerton from 1952 to 1982 without moving.
I was on the Wisconsin and I am pretty sure the Missouri did NOT fire the first tomahawk of desert storm . The USS Paul F.Foster DD-964 fired the first tomahawk of the campaign .
the great thing is they can carry more tomahawks then a modern DDG. I really dont know why we can have some BB today expect for the brass and the congress dont want it. But if we had another pearl harbor they would bring them back.
On the USS Missouri this is just wishful thinking I wish they would pipe a board Admiral James T Kirk Starfleet command and the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-A
Maybe in the near future they would replace the Missouri's guns with railguns as well as changing its engine to a fusion reactor. Also put a fuck ton of missile vls.
Actually she was updated to fire Tomahawks on her own, no destroyer required. It's really aircraft carriers that made battleships go out of style, though subs also played a part. When the Ark Royal's Swordfish damaged the Bismarck and helped sink her, that was the end of the battleships.
Itz a battle ship dumb ass it was built to sink other bb.s and any other .objects that those beautimas 16 inchers..could.blow up .and a crater.the size of Rhode island when using h.e rds I ve seen the destruction left behind go navy .
Thank you for your service Admiral Mead

The battleship New Jersey went into more wars then the other iowa class battleship and she the most popular of all

Well I thought Missouri is more popular

Im going there this weekend with my school we are sleeping overnight
My granddad was on board for the treaty signing
I think, if not for Truman being president at the time, the surrender would have taken place on the New Jersey. That was Halsey's ship.
Iowa was originally supposed to host the surrender, Truman did order them to change it to Missouri.
+rbarger71 Halsey transferred his flagship to the Missouri towards the end of the war. Either way, he got the surrender signed on his flagship.

Same was so disappointed I coulden't tour the rest of the Iowa :(
A guy I know owns pieces of the Missouri and Iowa's turrets. I've been lucky enough to crawl in side a piece of the BB-63 left gun, gun #372 :)
The New Jersey was the only Iowa class to serve in Vietnam... He should have mentioned that.
npgtom .no they all were in vetniam

@@jonathanparker3313 No, the Jersey was the only Iowa class recommissioned for Vietnam.

Not everyone from New Jersey is ignorant about WWII and the Iowa class battleships.

Why is it called the Mighty Mo?
The abbreviation for Missouri is M.O the Missouri is an Iowa class battleship the mightiest of all ..... Put the two together mighty mo
+imeatingursnack plz Thank you for the info. The ship is very beautifull.
On the USS Missouri this is just wishful thinking I wish they would pipe a board Admiral James T Kirk Starfleet command and the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-A
missouri is the best
no they all served
My Old House

It's not used its a museum :) id like to see battle ships out again it's all destroyers now like battleship says (movie)
It would be easier at this point to build an updated Montana-Class Battleship with modern capabilities.
my dad borther was on the MISSOUR
Mnk
it is obsolete does not have the range of the arliegh burke with tomahawke missles
