I’ve got a Slick and I have to say it’s my absolute favorite of all my guitars. I just love the damn thing. Sounds beautiful and is just bulletproof. In fact I’m looking at buying a few more very soon. I 100% recommended Slick guitars.
I was getting my SL57 set up when I got it, (I bought it used, and the owner had tried to set it up by himself and didn't do a good job) When I picked it up, and older guy came to pick up his vintage Strat. He asked if he could try mine, as he'd never heard of the brand. After playing it for awhile, he said he thought it was one of the best Strats he's ever tried. Awesome bang for the buck!
Ive always been interested in the Slick guitars. Have gotten some stuff off guitarfetish and never had a complaint even with my "factory buy out" 335 copy which they no longer carry. May get an SL57 for my next guitar. It seems like a good afordable option to a strat. Great review.
Mel itz been a while ,lol actually since I left a comment. .I remember my first comment was Thanking you for the review on the slick 57 and how after I saw it I bought 1. That was over a year ago I believe? I , still have it but I ordered a JB equipped wired Pick guard . I also have the same color...thx brother
Hey man, when you find one that speaks to you it doesn't matter what the name on the headstock is, what the sticker price says, or anything else and you are absolutely right...that beast sounds fantastic. Still weird to me seeing you with a Strat style axe, but I digress. Those tones are sick! Straight dig the cosmetic mods you did on the one you let go. Can't wait to see what you do with this one. Word of advice...be creative and pull from your soul. Maybe this one will hang around a little longer. 🤔 🤪 Personally I'm still jonsing bad for Life and the Rock Gods to forge a treaty and find it in their common interest to see fit to me finding a way to get my hands on a red Epi Les Paul studio. In the meantime, I'm fortune to have channels such as yours for me to live vicariously through. As always, great content brother. Thank you.
I'm buying one to reconfig as partscaster with Fender neck not because of the name, but the ugly headstock, 12" radius, and this could really be much nicer than the partscaster with the Fender neck and fat 50s piuckguard I'll be nicking from it to put on this Slick. I will be recycling all the parts that come off the Slick for am SRV style guitar, so everything will be used and played. Great deal on these for what you get.
I did a ton of small mods to my SL57, but the main difference is the GFS Lil Killer rail humbucker in the bridge. The stock bridge pickup was too thin and not hot enough for me. I'm very disappointed that the body is routed SSS, not HSH or Universal - I wanted a full size humbucker!
I hear ya. I don’t really mind the rout being sss as I don’t really use the bridge alone on a strat. I did have a set of lil killers in a Tele I had, they were pretty great. Thanks for watching 🤘🏾
Thanks for your review! I'm about buying one, i'm just not sure about maple or rosewood fretboard...do you have any recommendation on this one? I think the dark headstock looks a bit better on the rosewood model and a little bit weird on the maple version. I laready have a SL 60 - it's amazing! 😀
I think they ship from Florida now. I have a Xaviere XV-870 "Strat" modded with GFS Lil Killer rail pickups, and just bought a Slick SL-55, which is also great.
Those pickups look more like GFS pups with aged magnets. The slicks have aged covers and the magnets are not flat. I'm thinking about buying Slick keeping the body and the trem block and building my own guitar. Interesting how you can buy a Slick guitar for 40% the cost of an ash painted body. Great review
Shout out to my man ... .Mel , luv ya bro ya always tell it like it is!! I,. Love my slick 57 also I have a bugera 5 watt infinium technology practice amp and the little bugger really boogie 'z ! ! later
I would have really like to have heard it through the Origin 20 head as that's my main amp. Playing through a Morning glory and Angry Charlie is good though since I have an Angry Charlie, and my Soul food is comparable enough to a Morning glory. If all goes as planned, I should be picking one of these up tomorrow for $`125, but if I'm honest, it'll be mostly for the swamp ash body and trem as I'm planning to refinish it with stain and lacquer and an actual Fender neck and fat 50s pickguard from my partscaster. After seeing these demos, I almost hate to butcher it, but I'll at least be using all of the parts for multiple guitars: One of them being an Austin SRV knockoff that the pickguard and neck will go on. At the end of the day, this really looks like a nice guitar with really decent parts for the $269 pricetag and even better: The $125 used tag I'll be paying. Cheers for the vid, man
@@GearandGuitarswithMel I bought it but haven't swapped anything yet. Mostly out of sheer laziness and other projects took precedence. I like the way it plays and sounds as is, but maybe this weekend I'll swap necks .
@@GearandGuitarswithMel I've got an odd neck from an 08 mim Acoustasonic strat, but was on an electric strat body when I bought it. It's always played and felt just like any electric strat neck and will work fine.
@@GearandGuitarswithMel if I could make a suggestion. If you do make this video you should compare them using, IMO the top 3 strat tones: 1. Hendrix type tone, 2. Eric Clapton type tone, now this one I may catch some backlash for, but it is one of the best enduring tones 3. John Frusciante. Just a thought.

Gonna be a little strat content coming due to the gear I have coming in, but obviously I’ll be doing plenty of other stuff. Lol Thanks for watching 🤘🏾

No recommendation, u gotta go with what u dig…I think they’re all around solid!
The SL 57 has a 12 inch radius. You hvae to click on the descrription button to get the specs on the Guitar Fetish website.
For an a at home beater you can't beat the price. I'm also a LP guy so I would use it to play a few Hendix songs and some U2 and that's it.
That’s exactly right. Lol🤙🏾

I am very interested in the SL57. My only complaint with it is the headstock. Looks like a shnoz to me. LOL
I don’t mind the shape, it’s the fact that it’s black that really gets me. Lol
@@GearandGuitarswithMel Understood.
@@GearandGuitarswithMel Black is okay with a rosewood fingerboard, I guess. I agree that black looks less attractive with a maple fingerboard.
SL57 stamped on the headstock would have been better than the cheezy looking logo.
I agree completely

I used to have one. Nice sounding and very good hardware for the price, but I couldn't stand the neck, it was just awful.
