- UPDATE: Unfortunately due to the recent weather in Los Angeles, the giveaway Epiphone mentioned towards the end of this video was damaged and is no longer a suitable giveaway prize. But I promise you all that after 5K subscribers are hit, we will have something amazing to give away TBD.

That's the one that started it for me! Have to admit, I still prefer the bridge on yours.
I have owned a SL54T for several years and I love it , incredible tone !
Agreed! Because I love the tone on these so much, I ordered more of the Old School Cool humbuckers to put into other guitars. That's probably my favorite pickup of GFS's. I just wish they made a version of it that doesn't look like it's lived at the bottom of a riverbed for a year.
@@11thFretI want the version with a tremolo on it.
Looks like a solid instrument. Outstanding review!
Thanks for the detailed review. Great video!
Hey Jonathan! Thanks for watching!
Love y’all’s vibe
Thank you so much! I genuinely very much appreciated reading that just now.
i just ordered my first Slick Sl54T this afternoon....i went with the antique cream...After i watched max's on the crimson red one the other day i thought about it about 6 hours to long and when i decided to finally pull the trigger after watching some more reviews it was sold out 😮💨 but i put myself on the waiting list so hopefully soon the Crimson Red ones will be back in stock soon because i plan on getting it also....Glad to see another legit Guitar channel showing awesome low budget guitars...you SURE ABOUT THAT GIVE AWAY LOL...Just joking ,,i saw max's Scam giveaway mishap today,,,great video ..keep em coming
Haha. Thanks for commenting! Yeah, I saw that video of Max’s today and my heart sunk a bit. So I’m actually filming my response to it now, hopefully dispelling any suspicions.
And yes, this Epi LP is definitely going to be given away, for sure. My heart is 100% set on doing just that. Just got to get to 5K subs first. 😉
@@11thFret Looking forward to it!!!
I'd love one of these, but they don't make lefties for me. Definitely a cool no nonsense guitar.
Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that! These are absolutely amazing, but they should make a lefty. I didn't even realize they didn't until now. Have you ever emailed Guitar Fetish about it?
Cool video
Nice shoutout to Max
Those Slick guitars look cool and sound great.
The only downside for some is that I heard they are on the heavy side
NewSub here, keep making videos and you will hit 5k in no time.
Thanks Andy! I’m now pretty much always filming something. I just shot the Epi LP giveaway video last night. Now, it’s time to neglect my family once more and edit, edit, edit. ;-)
As for Max, it’s basically his ‘fault’ I started The 11th Fret since I think I was overwhelming him with constant, “now come borrow this for a review,” items (eg: The Boss Katana 50mkII, Slick SL54 & SL55, Zuwei weird Gretsch-like Tele all came from me). But Max’s channel is so big now, he has an awful lot on his plate to cover. He strongly suggested I start my own channel, so here I am. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I got the tele with filtertron pickups…the body is pretty heavy… more than id like
Just subscribed! Good luck with the channel and keep up the good work
Thank you Noah! I’m working on a new video, being edited as we speak. I’ll try to get it out this week after I can thoroughly attribute the photos and footage used to the copyright holders. (A tedious, yet necessary pain in the butt)
It’ll be a good one, share-worthy.
@@11thFret Can’t wait!
@@11thFret I’ll try and introduce you to a friend of mine, he’s real into guitar stuff and open to new channels
I have one in surf green. Funny that you said you wanted to sell it but just can’t. Same thing with me, when I pick it up and play it there’s something special about it that changes my mind.
Mine is really amazing. It’s definitely not one I play too much, because I’m out of the honeymoon phase. But damn, it’s good every time I play it.
Want a slick, trying to figure which is best for me! U helped thanks
I’ve two others on the dock to review as well: The SL55 and SL59. Not to spoil too much, but the SL59 is righteous as well.
Very impressive instrument for the money...
Even today, I still go back to it to think that maybe I should finally part ways. But no, this Slick is a monster of a guitar. I kind of want another.
Sounds great!
Is the limitation in the options, single pup, single volume or the player?
Not a shot at you, I just meant where you can take this instrument to, sound-wise?
No offense taken at all (I didn't see it as a shot towards me). Yes, the limitation is mostly in the tonal options. But what this guitar does, it does extremely well. That said, it is a splittable humbucker. So if one were so inclined to break out their soldering iron, they could use all that vacant real estate in the control cavity to add a tone pot, a push/pull for coil-cutting, or whatever else they please.
As for me, I have my own limitations, to which there are many (*waves fist in the air* "Damn you pentatonic scales! Damn you!!!").
Great review, Question.... would you be able to swap neck for another?....maybe a Fender reverse headstock style?
Yes! Absolutely. Actually, this is something I’m interested in doing to a Slick in hopefully the not so distant figure. But I’ve already test fitted some Fender and Fenderish necks, and they fit just fine.
…Just make sure that you’re getting a neck intended for a 25.5” scale build (or a scale conversion neck).
Do you have to pop the bridge out to change strings. No one addresses this in the reviews I've seen. When the Slick guitars were first introduced,I heard this was an issue.
Great question! I personally never had to, but still do it anyway in order to clean underneath the bridge since the strings are off. But removing the bridge to perform a string change has never been a requirement for me.
slick guitars are advertised as having Indian rosewood fretboards. Jatoba is Brazilian cherry. if it is jatoba, they should advertise it as such. Either way, it is nice, but I would like to know which one it is?
I just got a sl50 in the mail today. it's surf green and an advertised Indian rosewood fretboard. It was a clearance item with a blem. I got mine for $179 after the blem discount. The blem was some white stuff on the side of the fretboard. I have to say it really is no big deal at all. Everything is just fine on it. The frets are 👍. All I did was round off the edges some. It's different and 😎.
The Slick I reviewed is a few years old, and may have used different materials than what they’re offering today. Mine then offered Jatoba, but Indian Rosewood may be the flavor-of-the-month currently.
That said, I’m glad you got a good score on an SL50 Blem. Their blem stuff usually has small, fixable imperfections. How heavy is yours? Both of mine are heavy enough to prevent an oil tanker from drifting away (aka: a boat anchor). 😂
@@11thFret lol, that's funny. It's not as heavy as my PRS Tremonti or my 2004 Squier Deluxe Stratocaster fmt ,but it does have some weight.
Jatoba the wood? The wood that has 25 syllables?
Any one knows if the neck is too fat? Or is thin? In guitar specs only says that the shape is type c
It's a standard C profile, making it kind of a medium thickness. It's not the baseball bat that's my Les Paul's 50's neck, nor is it a thinner D or Wizard profile like my Charvel and Ibanez's. It has a very similar feel to all of my Fender American Standard Stratocasters.
@@11thFret thanks!!!
Heavy with too many setup/quality issues so it was an easy decision to sell mine.
I could see that. Intonation wasn’t my favorite thing on this. The weight is quite a bit, which is probably why they switched to the trem model to chew out more wood. I still have mine, but don’t play it as much as I should. So mine might finally enter the chopping block as well.
@@11thFret Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to love it and all the features seem right but with Lighterwoods available it suffered by comparison.
@eljefeguapobarbon I don’t doubt it one bit. Especially as my 44-year-old back is becoming more and more temperamental as each year passes. 😂
@@11thFret I do plan to build a GFS strat/Hardtail in the near future 🤘
I got the tele with filtertron pickups. Cool guitar but… the body is really heavy…the pots are very hard to turn for some reason, thats not a big deal really…the bridge, although cool looking and brass, has to be pulled out of the cavity each time causing you to reset your action, although mine is screwed all the way down. Neck could use a shim to compensate for the bridge angle…
But the biggest problem ive had was the neck…every fret pulled out at the ends and wouldnt sit flush…you could put your nail under some, thats bad. I pulled all of them out, the quality of them wasn’t great to begin with and replaced them with jescar 90/50 wire. Much nicer frets, $15 cost…started the refret, they still wouldn’t sit flush at ends…had to crazy glue all of them in. My model uses walnut??? For fretboard material and its hard wood and it just wouldn’t hold those fret ends down without glue. The nut was cut pretty bad and cheap looking, i made a new bone nut for it.
Now its a much better guitar…im just not big on heavier ones…
But i also have 2 xaviere guitars also and those are pretty good for the $$$
I also have the SL55 (Tele with Filtertrons). I received a first batch and encountered a few fit and finish problems. Guitar Fetish was quick to remedy the issue after I immediately reached out. I actually had GuitarMAX also unbox and review it on his channel before this one existed.
Hello there, subscriber number 10 here, and as a brazilian, the correct pronunciation would be Jaa-tow-baa, with the word stress on Baa
And for the clean old-school pickup, the Malagoli Custom 84 has a sound inspired on the 80's hard rock and heavy metal, i personaly don't use it because i go more for the EMGs, but a lot of musicians here use it and it sounds great!
Thanks for the sub, AND for the correct pronunciation! I’ll also have to check out a Malagoli Custom ‘84 sooner than later.
💙💛 Jatobá = ua-cam.com/video/W0c1MWBaoI8/v-deo.html
Nice! Thank you. I checked around UA-cam, listening to experienced woodworkers say it as well as guitar luthiers, other musicians, etc. Nice to hear it said correctly. I'll try that going forward. If not ..."Brazilian Cherry," it is. 😂
