Christmas 1979: I vividly remember shooting all of Mazinga's rockets at my older brother's Godzilla figure. All that Godzilla could shoot was his single hand. Then my brother flicked Godzilla's fire tongue at Mazinga and said "now your melting". To which I responded, "no I'm not." I believe my brother punched me after that.
kosmoboi Dude, I got Rodan too! I threw a temper tantrum in Toys ‘R Us when my parents wouldn’t get him for me. I got him later for my birthday. Man I wish I kept him. Can’t believe what he’s going for now.
Was poor found Raydeen in a salvation army bin when I was a little kid I was so happy it was all intact except for a few stickers it had a price tag of 100 on a piece of paper tape a little strip on the chest being little I thought it was 100 dollars but it was only a dollar I only had 30 cents so they gave it to me for free I'm 46 years old now.
My dad got me raydeen thinking that he was Grendaizer. I knew something was off unfortunately I didnt know that Raydeen had his own anime and though that he was a knock off toy. That was a long time ago .
It's too bad the cartoons weren't widely broadcast in the U.S. (Raideen's series was briefly seen in Hawaii and parts of California, and we got a heavily modified and edited version of Mazinga's first series during the 1980s, but that was it). I've finally gotten all their shows on DVD nearly forty years later!
There used to be a news magazine show called "Beyond the Horizon" that aired on CBN back in the mid 80s. It was a show about Japan. Traditions, current trends, technology, etc. One segment would feature half an episode of "Mazinger Z." (IT was dubbed in English.) When Tranzor Z came out, I was excited, but then was disappointed by how much of it was edited.
Thank you Mam for getting me both Raydeen and Mazinga for Christmas in the 70’s. I was over the moon when I opened them! I also collected the Shogun Warriors Marvel comic.
I wanted one of these, back in the day. I told my dad for Christmas one year I wanted a "Shogun." He misunderstood and thought I wanted a gun for display -- a "show gun." As a result, he told me I couldn't have it -- I was too young for a gun. Then I explained. Never got the Shogun, though. A friend who was always in trouble got one. I think his mom was trying to buy his good behavior. Never worked and he's still getting in trouble, 40 years later.
Yes, I had the Mazinga also. I always would have memories of this toy but couldnt remember the name until this video, thanks. I really loved the spaceship brain.
i usedd to take special care to keep track of the shooting stars and hammer on Dragoon but my Grandma said i shouldnt bother because eventually theyll wind up lost and boy she was right.
you mean Mazinger Z? The motif of its appearance is that of a devil A lot of classic superhero tales held dreadful themes and hopeful messages with a lot of truth to their writing, Mazinger Z is known to have usage of mythology and horror, as well as religious themes in the story, with Koji Kabuto the teenager who piloted the original Mazinger fighting it out in brutal battles against the attacks of Dr.Hell.
I believe this is the very commercial that hooked me on them when I first saw it! Raydeen was the only giant Shogun I had, other than Godzilla & Rodan. I still have that Raydeen, and have added the other Mattel giant Shogun Warrior over the last couple of years as well.
Me too. Just didn't know it. Actually I was cleaning out my parents attic a couple years ago and ran into RAYDEEN!!!!! With everything intact, including the accessories. Sounds like that the attic is the worst place it could have been. But mine had no damage to the vinyl head or the body. The stickers were splitting, but the delta wing missiles still shot out of the chest and the Axe Fist still shot off perfectly.
Micronauts were even earlier than 1976 .. although i probably discovered them around that time. The most infamous i think was the boba fett rocket pack death .. if thats not an urban myth.
I know this video old But thank you for this video. This brings back good memories. I had these toys when I was younger the smaller version of the metal ones thank you for this video
When I was 6, back in the 70's, I had Great Mazinga and Raydeen. And when I was a teenager, my dad gave them away to two kids young kids, not knowing or caring about their worth, and watched them get completely destroyed right before his eyes in minutes.
Had no idea they sold these in the states. I lived in Japan for 3 years from 76 - 78. Had one of these large mazinger toys. It was awesome. Too bad the cartoons never hit the states. Funny they called them shogun warriros lol.
stockjonebills They were huge in the States in the late 70's. I remember throwing a temper tantrum in Toys R' Us when I was 5 because my parents wouldn't buy me Rodan. I got it for Christmas though. :)
Interesting. All that time I was in Japan watching the real deal. I use to have one of the big Mazinger Z robots. That was in Japan. Not sure about that American version but in Japan you could buy all kinds of different arm attachments.
+stockjonebills cartoons of Mazinger Z, Geta Robo G, Giking, Grandizer, Dangaurd Ace, were shown in United States but strangely after Mattel had already discontinued the Shogun Warrior line which was around 1979, and the TV shows started a few years After that. I never got any Shogun Warrior toys. :-( But I always wanted them along with Pulsar and Rom. I DID have the Micronauts, Star Wars and Metal Man figures. :-)
My brother broke Mazinga's rocket launcher before I even saw it, sneaking into the Living room Christmas morning like a heathen while everyone was still asleep. Thank God Pops bought everyhring from Sears!

Tranzor Zeeeeee!

I guess you've never seen Yasushi Nirasawa's mazinger girl toys, like "Aflodai" and such. X D

Thank you Mam for getting me both Raydeen and Mazinga for Christmas in the 70’s. I was over the moon when I opened them!
I also collected the Shogun Warriors Marvel comic.
I had the Godzilla with the plastic fire strip breath too!
So did I (Godzilla) along with the Rodan with claws that gripped and wings that flapped. My warriors were diecast metal and only 7 inches tall.
