@@Ushio01 there are trillions of people in the Star Wars galaxy. The largest military on earth (US) employs a tiny fraction of a percentage of US citizens. They could find spare pilots to man those fighters

Don't forget, if you're all traveling individually, arriving in appropriate formations to support each other at the same time is very logistically difficult without a carrier.
I personally like the idea of a carrier that isn't utterly helpless. Not to the degree of a Stardestroyer, but enough guns that give an attacking ship pause rather than it being a "free kill". Reliable and stable VTOL technology (which Star Wars has) would drastically reduce the space needed for carrier operations, thus allowing more space for ship functions and offensive weapons.
The problem is that every turbo-laser you add costs you fewer star fighters, less space to repair/rearm them, less room to bunk pilots and maintenance crews, fewer munitions and spares for the fighters... and a combat space patrol can do the work of the ship's armament if the carrier gets jumped while using pretty much the same resources the strike fighters do. And then there's the unfortunate habit of carrier captains who have any guns on their ships that try to use it as if it were built for the line of battle, risking a ship that costs like a cruiser but hits like an anemic frigate in close combat, impaling themselves on the enemy guns and denying their own fighters the chance to land and rearm.

The New Orders Resurgent-class Star Destroyer was honestly a good ship overall for the "well rounded" approach. It was near double the size of a ISD, but it took all the lessons of the vessel and implemented it. Heavy firepower, heavy shields. I especially liked the conveyor belt Tie Fighter hangers. One observation I made. While the Providence clearly is focused more on direct combat, they aren't sacrificing as much of a fighter compliment as you'd think. The Republic has pilots. They need to be housed, fed, and given rest to do their job properly. The CIS had droids. None of those are a concern. The hangar of a Providence being smaller isn't as much of downgrade considering you can pack in those vultures nice and tight. We've seen they not only store them on the ceiling, but even launch them directly from there as well. More, the Venators hangars doubles as cargo space. You need more supplies to maintain people than droids so that's gonna take up hangar space. I'd bet if you loaded both a Providence and Venator's hangars with all the necessary cargo then packed in as many fighters as you feasibly can, the difference would be quite small. The more I think about it, in this scenario I'd think the Providence could potentially hold more. And to note, I am not taking into consideration the skill difference between pilots and droids nor the effectivity of their chosen fighters. I'm thinking pure numbers.
This is why the Lucrehulk is my preferred carrier type. The damn things can carry like a THOUSAND starfighters! Sure, they’re just Vulture Droids when we see them appear in TPM…but the Tri-droid fighter is even smaller than a Vulture, and WAY deadlier. Imagine having to face a fleet with over a THOUSAND Tri-droids! You wouldn’t even be able to get CLOSE; they could just seed the hyperlane egress point with Buzz-droid bombs and wait for you!
I would want a Venator if I was going for a carrier. Even into the Vong war, I'd want a Venator updated to "modern" tech. Imagine the number of snub fighters! Acting as an escort to Mon Cal cruisers or the New Class star destroyer designs the New Republic had.
Yknow what people don’t realize is that an Executor class could count as a carrier since it was capable of carrying *Thousands* of fighters at once whilst including walkers, prefabricated bases, and troops. So me personally Im taking the Star Dreadnought, Basically invincible, armed with enough weapons to take out entire fleets alone, as well as a beefy fighter complement
For the Vong war, I would choose the endurance class carrier or convert an MC-80B or an MC-90 hull into a carrier. The Venator was hopelessly underpowered by even the Galactic Civil War era, so you would have to essentially create a new class of war ship by updating it with "modern" tech for service in the Vong war.
One of my favorite ships in SW is the Quasar class carrier. It looks cool and it’s a vastly cheaper way for the Empire to bring TIE fighters into battle and service them than a star destroyer, so it’s practical too. The one the rebels captured seemed to serve them well as a base for hyperspace capable fighters as well. Great ship!
In non contested space, it's cheaper and more flexible than a space station. But it does need a support fleet to deal with any soft of threat greater than a few fighters.
In a universe where space combat happens at relatively close range, and starfighters are capable of disabling and even destroying a Star Destroyer on their own, carriers became the most optimal option of space ship. They can function beyond threat range and still be effective and versatile.
With hyperspace jumps I don't think that the increased range of carriers really counts here, though that can be managed with good shields and some support
I like that he’s been changing the outro theme every now and then, and I quite like it! Some songs work better than others for the sillygoofy outro doge, and I think Resonance is one of the songs that doesn’t, IMO. Not that I don’t love the song, of course!
If I was whisked into the Star Wars universe and was given the ship of my choice, assuming fuel, maintenance, and crew are no factor at least for a little while, Lucrehulk all the way. One cargo run is all you'd need to set yourself up for life and we all already now it can be an absolute beast in battle. I don't have any numbers, but I'd hazard to guess not many Lucrehulks were taken out in the course of the Clone Wars.
@@avsbes98 I imagine quite few were. But there were plenty still around. The Empire used quite a few in legends, kept more in surplus and actually sold some off. The rebels used at least two in legends and one in canon. There were other factions but those are the major ones.
You can't hide in space though and a Lucrehulk is more expensive than a bunker. The strength of a mobile command is also its weakness. Easy to move but easy to follow since you know exactly what to follow if they try to scatter since that's where everyone will end up. You can blast a Lucrehulk outta the sky too. It does raise the question, however, that if Hoth's shield can resist any orbital bombardment what happens if you stick it up in space where you can't send Walkers at it? Was it being down in the gravity well of the planet that keeps starship options limited in dealing with it?
Without a hyperdrive, a fighter can devote more towards shields, weapons, and maneuverability. Having a ship that can enter the fight and deploy these fighters is a great addition to the fleet.
Not to mention a carrier can mount far better sensors and have a proper command deck with dedicated people to coordinate those fighters in a battle. Kinda what happens on a real aircraft carrier and it’s support group, they are not *just* a fancy way to transport aircraft to war zones and resupply them. They are force multipliers coordinating the planes, giving them targets and warn them about dangers as well as providing a safe zone hostile interceptors can’t just pursue returning fighters towards.
with proper friend / foe detection and advanced flight coordination support, I think a carrier platform with a focus on missile launchers would be a really cool concept. Firing barrages of cluster missiles mixed in with larger hard hitting ones and hey maybe even a mix of Buzz droid deploying missiles and then sending out your fighter wave right behind it, almost acting like a walking barrage. The enemy will be overwhelmed with all the missile signatures from the opening barrage, and then be even further flooded by your fighter signatures. Ovbs throwing tons of missiles out there while you have friendly fighters would require advanced friend / foe and flight control support, so much of this carrier would have to have space dedicating to computing and observation towers like the Nebula had to help coordinate friendly fighter movements and the info they get. I envision a combination of what the Victory 1 SD did with its maneuvering flaps and batteries of concussion missile launchers on the sides while also dedicating more to hanger space like the first order Resurgent class did with its hanger entrance in the front of the ship hidden within the superstructure. I'd just add massive deployable blast doors to be able to close in that gap when fighters are not needed.
With my mind on cluster missiles and buzz droids, I wonder if enough buzz droids could take down a corvette or larger ship. Also curious if there were larger / different types of buzz droids. Having swarms of them cutting into the hull / disabling turrets would definitely soften up a larger ship for bombers or missiles to finish off. I'm actually surprised Buzz droids were not integrated with boarding ship/pods. When the pod is meant to burro into a enemy ship to deploy troops you'd think sending out a little group of buzz droids after impact would help. Could you imagine the nightmare of trying to find the single remaining buzz droid crawling throughout your cap ship? It could be there for weeks covering ground, cut a wire here, move on. Break a component here, move on. It would be playing cat and mouse with the crew, and lowering morale the whole time with the as you cant go into a all clear status if you have a active saboteur onboard, meaning full shift hours for everyone and constant look outs / responding to damage.
Missiles are already meant to bypass shields in the SW verse. Why didn't we see a tactic like this used more: Enemy cap ship is engaging us with heavy guns. We launch buzz droid missiles at the turret areas, the missiles get through the shield and crash into the area near the heavy turrets. All the buzz droids are programed to prioritize trying to disable the turrets either through disrupting their ability to turn or even fire outright. The enemy cap ship cant just fire at it self, what are you gonna do use a PDC turret to light up your heavy turret within your own shields as swarms of buzz droids cover it? Sounds like risking blowing up your own turret rather than saving it.
@@JJJBunney001 I'm more thinking of just taking the already existing battle carriers in lore, but instead of turbo laser turrets and such. Opt in for more missile launchers of varying sizes and then just fighter screening PDC. But yeah at the end of the day a fleet of specialized ships win out. My thoughts here were more for a single ship scenario. If I had a battle carrier, I'd rather it be covered in long range / cluster missile launchers than big ship to ship guns. I'd rely on my fighters and missiles to do the job rather than my fighters and then closing in with my cap ship for turbo laser range
Very good video. I've always been a fan of the New Republic's battle carriers paired with fighters like the E-Wing and K-Wing. The Black Fleet Trilogy showed how an carrier filled with K-Wings could be devastating.
The problem isn’t the carriers, it’s that combat in SW always takes place at close range, especially for space combat, and dedicated carriers aren’t made to slug it out with enemy battleships
These are my favorite types of videos. This is the type of shit I would be making by myself in my spare time, but thankfully Eck is here to do it for me
A practical escort carrier concept could be a hybrid between a fast carrier with some Lancer Frigate DNA. It has enough AA to strongly discourage enemy fighters from attacking it, and uses its own fighters to project power. It has the speed to stay away from the heavy brawler capital ships and lets its fighters take care of them. And with good fighter defences of its own it has a good chance of surviving to resupply and dock fighters afterwards. Particularly for non Hyperspace equipped fighters, having your carrier destroyed by enemy fighters was a constant worry in battle. With this concept a defensive screen isn't as necessary.
I find it interesting how you said that you would want to captain a carrier so you could deploy your ships and retreat behind the battle lines. Makes me think of something I heard: There is no sacrifice like someone elses sacrifice. Very cool video though I love your content
The Concept of a carrier, especially in Space Movies, is a Mobile Home and Maintenance Station. A Safe Location, that can even flee if discovered. Also, the possibilities when you take a Carrier, especially a previously military Battlecarrier and repurpose it for civilian or criminal/underground purposes: A mobile Distribution center, a Company HQ, a Guild Home (Example, Bounty Hunters operating with their personal Ships and returning back for Rest or new Contracts), a mobile black Market, an information Bazar. All this potential if you want to create a Story and also, a Home for the "Hero" Ships you created, a meeting place, a common denominator
Great Video! 😊. What baffles me is the given the prevalence of carrier tactics, there is a shocking lack of effective and innovative point defense and anti-fighters tactics employed by Star Wars ships. It seems Star Wars Admirals have refuse to learn and adapt to anti-fighter defenses since forever.
Eck, the LIBERATOR from SW:Rebellion is my favorite carrier. It carries 6️⃣ squadron of Rebel fill-in-the-blank Wings, (Y, X, A, B), carry 3 infantry regiments, deliver a fight in ship-to-ship combat, ☝🏻 and has 600 rating in shields, (when compared to 300 in shields in the MonCal Cruiser in SW:Rebellion.)
my ship would have been the Acclamator, its a ship I feel in love with as a kid. Sure the ISD is iconic but the Acclamator descending with clones to save the jedi survivors was such a moment for me.
I bet the vindicator was originally a cargo ship, and they made it into an ad hoc carrier, basically a surface to park their ships on but not really service them, and maybe provide a place for the pilots to stay.
I think the screenplay reason is that fighters and freighters make better hero ships. Think about it: How much direct combat and peril does the navigator on a Star Wars ship see? How much impact on the battle or the mission do they have? What about the Weapons officer? The Gunner? The captain? Now how much danger and impact does the Character in a A, B, Y or X-Wing have? Recently, they even started walking on the ships in space suits - because fighters are apparently too big.
Carrier as patrol ship for sector or flying base for operations is great. You can have this thing full of troops and troop carriers and have nice invasion force in just one ship. That's why Venator was perfect ship for what Empire needed.
its all about the star fighters and how cool being a star pilot is. So everything about carriers becomes amazing and fun. I think psychologically America and many nations end up with Fighter pilots and Jet pilots becoming extremely respected and to be a desired role to play in a conflict thanks to world war II and beyond.
Sweet , please follow up with the kyber cystrals though . If they were sentient when the Death Star was destroyed why didn’t Luke feel the pain? And with all those cystrals floating in space did they call out to any other jedis?
Kyber crystals was a retconned concept, let alone them being sentient or feeling pain. Was slotted in during the cgi Clone Wars. Early Star Wars Jedi would use any assortment of gems and crystals to build lightsabers.
Rule of cool, fighters look great on screen. Funny how most sci-fi has even dedicated battleships carrying strike craft when we found out almost immediately in the real world that hybrid ships don’t do well. Their air wing gets overwhelmed by dedicated carriers or they get torn to pieces by true battle wagons.
Could we discuss why more starfighters don't use hyperspace rings? Seems like a best of both world options, keeping fighters small and light while also keeping range high Maybe it's too much of a risk for the enemy to find the rings and cutoff your return home? Or maybe hyperdrives aren't actually that detrimental to performance.
Probably the last part, would be really awkward to sweep up the enemy fleet then come back to fly home only to see some rogue X-Wing had taken the creative liberty of sentencing you to die alone in empty space
I don't know. There's a reason mainline capitol ship designs moved away from carriers of the Republic. In SW, carriers are great escorts/support ships, but not capital ships. I think people get confused because they compare SW with real life, where carriers emerged from the battleships of the pacific and not vice versa. People love the Venator, but it was consistently outgunned by every mainline CIS warship. The Republic Navy had to stiff arm in space engagements, and relied too heavily on their Starfighters, which weren't enough superior to CIS droid fighters. With the droid fighters being small, cheap, and compact, it made them exceptionally easy to store in hangers or externally. Ships like the Lucrehulke were like battleship-carriers, and if they weren't so slow and defensive in nature, they'd be one of the best capitol ships in SW. A change had to happen in Rpublic naval philosophy. This lead to ISDs, carracks, tectors, and Victorys, which could now effectively combat CIS warships. Despite what ecks says, even mon cal, and later new class designs had a huge focus on ship to ship combat. They were good carriers, but it gets overstated because of the quality of NR starfighters. Carriers, like they should be in SW, were relagated to escort roles. Still important, but not to the detriment of the fleet. Great examples of this are the ton falk, endurance, Gladiator, and Quaisar.
It's always been my favorite piece of lore from Mass Effect that the other spieces had never thought of using a ship as a carrier untill they met humanity.
Republic actually had a pretty well rounded fleet, it just wasn't used right. Venators were great carriers, but lacked firepower. Victories were great dedicated warships. Acclimators were great ground assault ships. Arquitens were great escorts for all the others. Clone Wars TV show should've shown some Victories, with everything else supporting behind them. Heck, even the Imperator Star Destroyers were starting to be produced near the end of the war, which were ISD's with a Venators bridge.
A ship made out of beskar would be terrifying, or even a sqaudron of beskar star fighters armed with a kyber lazer array, would be the most expensive squadron in history but could probably win any fight
I think most people like them more, including myself, because they are more versatile and can overcome whatever is a hindrance to them. They are not just shooting, they are armed mostly well enough and can carry whatever fighters they need. A great example is the Venator in CW that carried that stealth ship inside it, they used that to punch through that massive blockade while still having whatever else they needed for that invasion as well. You can just put inside it whatever you need for a specific task, something no imperial SD could do. Also a big reason is that starfighters are very strong in star wars, how often did we see one side winning cause of starfighters? They are a game changer. Imagine the confederacy without their massive amount of droid fighers, which was exactly the point why the republic feared space battles with them, not because of their capital ships. Carriers in star wars just proved more interesting and more powerful and thats why fans like them. We all saw how many times the republic won because of that.
It depends on the specific type of "carrier" some are just as great at being battleships. Like ISDs most of which are basically both while leaning more to the ship of the line end. Wouldn't allow my carriers to be on the front lines though unless they're just as good as battleships with decent armor an least respectable firepower. With decent fighter/bomber compliment at a similar time. This definition is what i imagine is where someone got the idea for anything "assault" class. ESPECIALLY if its some kinda carrier.
It's because they have no real point-defense systems. Add an aegis-system to a Star Destroyer (maybe with a laser blaster instead of projectiles) and things will change a lot
The short answer: the dominance of the carrier is moreso due to how essential star fighters are in any space battle The long answer: a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...
I would love a starwars battlestar type carrier using a launch tube like Gideon's imperial cruiser, however unlike a battlestar make it more focused on a carrier. I guess a Venator-battlestar hybrid.
Star Wars space battle physics are ridiculous; sometimes a Venator can go down after a few minutes of frigate turbolaser fire, and in the next it'll stand together an uncontrolled atmosphere descent with all its hull plating tearing off, for half an hour
If i were thrown into the SW universe during the late CW Early imperial era, i would chose the liberator as my personal command ship carrier, as it was able to carry over a thousand fighters, it had fire power that rivaled that of a titan class battle cruiser, and it had an experimental super ion cannon, the ship was also capable of being operated with a skeliton crew due to its advanced technology for the time. The ship was also able to carry enough cargo to fund a small fleet for life, the ship could of possibly even soloed an executor in a 1v1 if used correctly ( this is a CW era republic battle cruiser/carrier
I have a carrier concept (but I don't think it classifies as a Carrier tho) It's basically just like other Carriers just that the Hangers are portals to on ground airfields if it has say 4 hanger "door" it would be 4 portals in this case which lead to 4 different airfields on 4 different planets 😅
Speaking of fighter superiority, you have to wonder how things might have been different if the Empire had gone with the TIE Defender instead of Project Stardust.
How much damage would modern atomics do to capital ships and other heavily shielded vessels? Also why aren’t atomics prominent in Star Wars considering their destructive capabilities?
It’s a bit of a lack of imagination from the writers. While a nuclear explosion on its own would be pretty useless in the vacuum of space(pretty much just a flash bang) that doesn’t preclude its use as a "propellant" of sorts for a penetrator round on a warhead for example. Just your casual 1 ton tungsten rod moving at an appreciable fraction of light speed passing through your ship so to speak. I guess it could be argued that turbo lasers are so powerful these weapons are unnecessary but then again, missiles, rockets and torpedos exist and could be improved by using nuclear fusion(hydrogen bombs). However any kind of logic breaks down when you look at ground battles. Take for example Jedi, how much effort went into countering them with ever more elaborate droid designs when you could have just put a nuke into the torso of a random b1 with a dead man switch and tell it to go hug anakin, obi-wan, Yoda etc? Or how about nuclear artillery? Bunch of AT-ATs with AT-STs and hundreds of stormtroopers coming over that hill? Just blanket the entire grid with a couple dozen pocket nukes from an artillery unit. Nukes are so good in ground wars that the only reason we don’t use them is because we are afraid that the other guys start using them too and everyone gets dead.
One thing that not a lot of people touch on is the contradictory nature of Imperial fighter doctrine. The design of TIE fighters and their stereotypical usage makes it seem as though the Empire doesn't value their fighters whatsoever, yet the lore around TIE fighter pilots suggests that they extremely well trained. And it isn't like with stormtroopers, where all the inconsistencies comes from lore misconceptions on the part of various writers and such, pretty much all the lore I know of suggests that TIE pilots were extremely well trained and excellent, but the Empire simultaneously used them like cannon fodder. So clearly there was something really wrong with Imperial Navy tacticians.
One thing you notice about star trek ships is that they all have a shuttle bay of some kind, just for normal transport to and from the ship. Does the Tector class have a small shuttle bay somewhere? How does the crew disembark when there isint a specialised star destroyer dock?
The Imps (and by extension the Tectors) do have (iirc, 4) tiny secondary hangers in the trench that can (barely) hold a Lamda and a few ties at a time.
Boy, that dosent seem to meet safety standards for lifeboats.. or even normal R&R when making port >.> must be a few thousand people on that ship right?
@@nikiong66 A standard Imp has a crew of approximately fifty to fifty-five thousand, but as far as I'm aware there are no officialnumbers for the Tector. So let's do some math (and guessing). Depending on source between twenty and thirty thousand of those are Stormtroopers and/or pilots, and as such would (presumably) not be aboard a Tector (along side all/most the vehicle maintenance personnel). So assuming a Tector has slightly higher levels of crew requirements to maintain the ship/man the guns (to maintain/ man the additional guns and reactors), I'd guess a Tector as somewhere between twenty and thirty (but potentially as low as 15) thousand crew. Edit: Oh, and both do feature (quite a few actually) escape pods scattered about the outer hull. I also don't recall anyone who isn't a good guy ever using them.
I would choose a Star Destroyer, especially since it has 2 hangars. The sheer ability to destroy it has, and the amount of men it could carry. Truly beautiful
#ask eck can you explain why star wars warships are often geared towards battleships over destroyers when both real world and in universe logic dictates that higher range missile engagements are more sensible that cannons in a brawl beyond the reason that we want to see said brawl
For the Vindicator, do u think it had a hangar below deck. Many modern carriers have an elevator to transfer aircraft below deck. Maybe the Vindicator had an airlock so that only minimal crew would have to be above deck.
Personally I believe the reason carriers are so dominant in Star Wars is because the naval battles are heavily inspired by the Pacific theater of WWII.
I mean, we also have to acknowledge that Star Wars takes a lot of it's combat inspiration from WWII combat, where Aircraft Carriers were a HUGELY dominant force
I think experience playing Star Citizen can offer some new perspectives on this. The first actual carrier is just getting added to the game in the form of the Idris frigate. But enterprising players have been operating snub ships off of improvised pocket carriers for a few years now (Cargo ships like the Caterpillar and Hercules, luxury yachts like the 890 Jump, or even refueling tankers like Starfarer. And what we have found is that while fun, it isn't really worth it. The time and effort to carefully load up and deploy the snubfighters is way more than it takes a squad of jump capable fighters to form up and jump, and they are usually better armed and armored than their smaller counterparts. But at the same time, we only have ONE star system, and it is well populated with places to repair, rearm, and refuel everywhere! Eventually we will get the ability to refuel fighters by hand on board carriers, and we'll also be getting more star systems with bigger distances between planets, and fewer friendly places to resupply. And then, maybe carriers will make more sense.
meanwhile battletechs mckena class warships: hey hold my beer while i can bacly have realy big guns, carry alot of aero space 100 ton fighters and big 100,000ton drop ships all at the same time too. also they used to be like 1000's of me everywhere bacly.
#askEck Eck what if the Venator class star destroyer was able to get upgraded with more weapons for ship to ship combat while still maintaining the massive hangers or what if the the Republic built a third version of the Venator class keeping the same design but upscaled it but it was focused on warfare and star fighter carrying.

It looks cool and it’s a vastly cheaper way for the Empire to bring TIE fighters into battle and service them than a star destroyer, so it’s practical too. The one the rebels captured seemed to serve them well as a base for hyperspace capable fighters as well. Great ship!
Only if that ship wasnt so slow it would be one of the best carriers
I personally don’t like it. It looks far too triangular and doesn’t have any kind of superstructure which is typical for imperial warships
In non contested space, it's cheaper and more flexible than a space station. But it does need a support fleet to deal with any soft of threat greater than a few fighters.
One of my favorite Legends ships that was brought into canon. She goes all the way back to the Truce at Bakura
If a star fighter can destroy a star destroyer by itself you need more accurate guns
please never change your outro
Weren't most Lucrehulks scrapped after the Clone Wars though?
@@avsbes98 I imagine quite few were. But there were plenty still around. The Empire used quite a few in legends, kept more in surplus and actually sold some off. The rebels used at least two in legends and one in canon. There were other factions but those are the major ones.
Carriers can act as a mobile HQ. I would’ve chosen a Lucrehulk over Hoth.
It’s stuff like this that makes me love the navies of Star Wars. My absolute favorite tho is a tie between the new republic and the eternal empire
with proper friend / foe detection and advanced flight coordination support, I think a carrier platform with a focus on missile launchers would be a really cool concept.
Why didn't we see a tactic like this used more:
Enemy cap ship is engaging us with heavy guns.
That's not really a carrier, you're better off having dedicated artillery platforms in a mixed fleet
6:25 dude you found a right-side-up picture of a Tector-class?? Awesome 😃
Lol love your carrier/warship graph
I’m pretty sure it’s the logo for Tector in EAWX
2:38 "Not super convenient".
Understatement of the year.
Very good video. I've always been a fan of the New Republic's battle carriers paired with fighters like the E-Wing and K-Wing. The Black Fleet Trilogy showed how an carrier filled with K-Wings could be devastating.
Eck, could you please do videos on logistics in Star Wars? Both resupply & ship maintenance. Thanks
Not a video but the Valdusia station is pretty fascinating. Plus Ord planets
The problem isn’t the carriers, it’s that combat in SW always takes place at close range, especially for space combat, and dedicated carriers aren’t made to slug it out with enemy battleships
These are my favorite types of videos. This is the type of shit I would be making by myself in my spare time, but thankfully Eck is here to do it for me
I LOVE ALL ECKHARTS LADDER VIDEOS! Professor DM made me post this.
The lancer is pretty known for being really slow for its size
I find it interesting how you said that you would want to captain a carrier so you could deploy your ships and retreat behind the battle lines. Makes me think of something I heard: There is no sacrifice like someone elses sacrifice. Very cool video though I love your content
This should become a podcast
Nice! Ecks finally has 1 million subs. Glad to see that, this channel definitely deserves it
The Concept of a carrier, especially in Space Movies, is a Mobile Home and Maintenance Station.
_Star Trek._
The Quasar-class Flurry--I think was the name--from Truce at Bakura was my first exposure to this small tactical carrier. Good book too.
*Quasar Fire-Class
Respect the class by using its full name, especially when talking about the Flurry.
The dog at the end is so funny . Wasn't expecting that ,,,, 😂 ,,
Can you do a new video about the UNSC vs Stars Wars?
Bro the UNSC has a UA-cam channel?
@GunsAndAmmo3 We don't have a budget, I get paid one potato a month
Edit- It's not even a good potato 😔
Our entire budget was given to Master Chief and his traitor lady friend
Before I watch this, I'm gonna guess: Becuase Star Wars Fighters are so dominant
Could we discuss why more starfighters don't use hyperspace rings?
Seems like a best of both world options, keeping fighters small and light while also keeping range high
Maybe it's too much of a risk for the enemy to find the rings and cutoff your return home? Or maybe hyperdrives aren't actually that detrimental to performance.
Probably the last part, would be really awkward to sweep up the enemy fleet then come back to fly home only to see some rogue X-Wing had taken the creative liberty of sentencing you to die alone in empty space
Why would you 20 hyperdrives when you could make 1
I don't know.
I dunno, they seem to be pretty easily hammered by even small scale Separatist ships!!
This vid blew my mind at 1:04
It's always been my favorite piece of lore from Mass Effect that the other spieces had never thought of using a ship as a carrier untill they met humanity.
Carriers in real life are super dominant. So carriers in Starwars being dominant makes complete sense
My favorite kind of ships by far are battle carriers. They’re basically the Star Wars version of cruiser-carriers
I'm definitely a fan of carriers over other kinds of warships. Mobile bases, rather than being the dedicated weapons platform itself.
A ship made out of beskar would be terrifying, or even a sqaudron of beskar star fighters armed with a kyber lazer array, would be the most expensive squadron in history but could probably win any fight
Rule number 1 when building a navy: Always have a carrier.
It surprises me that there weren't more instances of carriers standing off, out of detection range, and launching starfighters to attack targets.
Fighters in Star Wars are so OP that they had to impose a limit to them in the Star Wars Armada game.
Congratulations on 1m
The snubfighters it carries
Not always
Still love to see the outro
It's because they have no real point-defense systems. Add an aegis-system to a Star Destroyer (maybe with a laser blaster instead of projectiles) and things will change a lot
The short answer: the dominance of the carrier is moreso due to how essential star fighters are in any space battle
The long answer: a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...
It may not be logical or efficient but I really do like that aircraft carrier in space.
I would love a starwars battlestar type carrier using a launch tube like Gideon's imperial cruiser, however unlike a battlestar make it more focused on a carrier. I guess a Venator-battlestar hybrid.
The Empire's fighter doctrine never quite made sense to me. "Only the best of the best can be Tie Fighter pilots"...they are also super expendable.
Very nice video 👍
Didn’t know carriers were so political lol.
Star Wars space battle physics are ridiculous; sometimes a Venator can go down after a few minutes of frigate turbolaser fire, and in the next it'll stand together an uncontrolled atmosphere descent with all its hull plating tearing off, for half an hour
Secutor my beloved❤
Marg Sable vid please
Wait, "Alphabet Squadron" is a real thing? I thought it was a joke!
I have a carrier concept (but I don't think it classifies as a Carrier tho)
It's basically just like other Carriers just that the Hangers are portals to on ground airfields
if it has say 4 hanger "door" it would be 4 portals in this case which lead to 4 different airfields on 4 different planets
😅
Speaking of fighter superiority, you have to wonder how things might have been different if the Empire had gone with the TIE Defender instead of Project Stardust.
Every Star Wars fan has this thumbnail. Cause it is epic!!!😆
They would do nothing, turbolasers are many times more powerful than the most destructive nuke ever detonated
WW2 and Homeworld showed the world the power of Carriers.
But then you have all the maintenance, logistics, and manpower issues that come with such an overpowering vessel
What makes carriers op in scifi is unlike irl carriers their fighters are launched inside the ship
Well well well a video 2 seconds ago? dont mind if i do
#ask eck can you explain why star wars warships are often geared towards battleships over destroyers when both real world and in universe logic dictates that higher range missile engagements are more sensible that cannons in a brawl beyond the reason that we want to see said brawl
It is better to be a jack of all trades than a master of one.
Search and replace "disgorge" (ew) with "launch"
A ship in space would be more like a submarine. So too would be a carrier . External atmospheric pressure would be a luxury . I guess,,,,
I think it’s easier to people to relate to something in the real world (carriers are vital to a large modern navy)
Carriers are important even today carriers
The funny thing is they likely could've had more ships, better fleet set ups and saved money by just designing ships for truly specialized roles
Cool vid!
Fuck it Im playing Fall of the Republic
For me, The Venator is my go to go Carrier 😌😌😌
What can I say I love big ships that use smaller ships stored in them to fight
Also would all these bots piss off
😮
Sith Harrower Class Sith Dreadnought
Sounds actually real-life aircraft carrier
#askEck Eck what if the Venator class star destroyer was able to get upgraded with more weapons for ship to ship combat while still maintaining the massive hangers or what if the the Republic built a third version of the Venator class keeping the same design but upscaled it but it was focused on warfare and star fighter carrying.
