Found Lumber is the Good Lumber. And yes, Family & Life *does* come first - it's so refreshing seeing someone - ANYONE - on youtoob saying that part out loud....

Yes. Also many of us forget this, don't we at times?

Harrumph! What priorities! Your wife and children over wood for woodworking! Clearly, not a UA-cam creator mentality. :)
Nice project - useful and good practice. Thank you for sharing.

I went semi-pro with my woodworking after about a decade and all my not-for-sale projects are still some garbage pine or at best spruce.
Granted, wood here is much more expensive than in the US, in addition to our purchasing power being about 1/5 of that of Americans. That's what you get when your ancestors deforest the whole continent >

happy your back posting. i also struggle with this rather noisy hobby and small children. It can be so difficult at the end of a day filled with work/kid stuff to find the energy to do a hobby like woodworking (let alone projects that wont disturb kids/wife). Your casual/practical attitude inspires folks like me to just go make stuff and be ok with the constraints. thank you !

Specifically because sliding dovetails are finicky to fit they're made tapered when they're long. It's not unusual for a long straight dovetail to seize during a glue up to the point that clamps pressure or heavy pounding just destroys a board. Ask me how do I know it.

Smoothing out those panels looked like a great upper body workout. Who needs a gym when you have a wood shop to work in. Thank you for the video, Now go enjoy the family time. Have a great Thanksgiving week.

Just wanted to say thank you! I have a lot of woodworking tools meant for interior carpentry and cabinet making courtesy of a family member - however, for lack of space it's difficult to use them. And the common attitude in the hobby is you need full cabinet saws, equipment, massive benches that take dozens of board feet of hardwood, etc which doesn't help. But your focus on functional woodworking and minimal tools has got me working again. Couldn't get 12/4 for a heavy atedai, so I'm using 2x12 dimensional lumber for my first and it's been awesome to work on. Going to cut the sliding dovetails for the legs and make the top as soon as I have the boards flush and joined. the plan is to do a split planing stop on top and be really careful about making it true and square so it can double as a shooting board. With any luck I'll be making some cool pieces soon

Great stuff! Glad to see you back posting full projects, and my own family commitments make this level of complexity a better match for what I'm able to undertake, so please do keep it up!

Nice to see you back at it again. Looks like a more western approach (vs the old Japanese) you’ve adopted. Either way, fun stuff. 🎉

Thanks for watching! I might talk about my mixed approach at some point. Most of the changes were due to budgeting with a family lol

Another trash quality video, why am I watching? This dude here is the guy who got his priorities straight, spends the least possible (money, wood, time etc) and gets the things done, last one is what I'm learning from him. Yes I've been following him for many years now, and I'll keep following, probably he'll keep posting trash videos of getting things done, thanks mate.
