Hey iam doing a graphan and want to know when I cut the thread of a square that's finished with for example say the first white square of the heart you have.
of course I see a lot of graphgans that I like. I should start out small like this or a hat and work up to something larger. thanks for your c2c experience. I normally just plow ahead and make mistakes but I may rethink that this time.:)
I always thought you bring color changes (c2c) to the front for easier changing on the next row. I have a c2c project that I will be starting soon and I'm going to try these tips.
This was a super helpful video, I’m using this pattern as a practice. But I’m stuck on row 15 and 16 how do I carry the pink back 3 squares in row 15 and the gray in row 16?
im sorry so at 10:46 are you trying to say that for us to figure out what is the right side, we should look at the first block and that (wrong side first block = right side whole project)?
Basically I decide which side I want to be the RS as I go on - sometimes one side will look better to me than the other. Once I have made that decision I stick to it the remainder of the project - keeping the ends to that side, weaving in ends on that side, etc. With some graphs you won't have a choice - especially with projects that have letters. I hope that helps!
This was a great video. I've been crocheting for over 40 years and never heard of a bobbin for yarn. I'll be looking for them today! I'm doing a CAL but I was totally lost! Thanks for sharing?
It can be done either way. When I am working the dc c2c method I prefer to work the slip st into the top of the ch-3 but when I am working the mini hdc c2c technique I work the sl st into the ch-2 space. However, this is completely up to you and how you like the finished look. I hope that helps!
In another video it mentions a "front" and a "back". Is that just the side you pick to put all the unsightly bits? Like you always drop the old colour/previously used to the back and the new colour/changed colour to the front. So you have to remember which is which and not always the bring the new colour to the part you are facing at the time and the old colour to the opposite side that your looking at
I typically don't worry too much about where I drop my yarn in c2c. In my graphs I typically make row 1 the wrong side and Row 2 would be the right side of my project. I will then tuck my ends in on the wrong side of my work - pushing the ends from the right side to the wrong side if need be. That way I don't have to worry about it as I go along. I hope that helps! 😊
I didn’t understand the instructions on how to know which direction you are starting on the graph?? (Ie do you start the graph from bottom, or from top). Can you clarify, please?
Sorry if that wasn't clear I am happy to clarify. You will begin reading the graph from the bottom corner. If you are a right hander you will start from the right corner working diagonally. If you are left-handed you will begin from the left corner and work diagonally. I hope that helps!
So glad I found your video. You are so much easier to understand than the other videos I sat through. I have two questions though, not specific to changing color. I'm working my first C2C after working almost exclusively amigurumi so I am having trouble with my tension. Amigurumi is more successful the tighter your stitching so do you have any suggestions on how I can ease up with my current (and hopefully future) C2C projects? And that question might be the cause of the second issue I'm having. My blocks are definitely more rectangle in shape than all the square ones I've seen in your, and other, videos. My graph pattern says to use the 5/2 method so that's what I've been doing. Is there a way to make them look more square, more even on the tops/bottoms and the left/right side? Is it a tension issue? A 5/2 issue? Something else entirely? Thank you so much for this video and for your time if you are able to help.
So glad you found the video helpful! I want to make sure I am understanding your question. When you say 5/2 method can you describe that method? Are you working the mini hdc block instead of a dc? When I am working the mini hdc I would chain 4 then work 2 hdc for the block. However, if you are working a ch 5 with just 2 dc stitches that may be causing the rectangle issue with your finished block. Let me know I will try to help if I can. Tonya 💕
@@nanascraftyhome it's all DC with 5 across and 2 up, which does seem like a rectangle to me. It's just with this being my first C2C project I can't trust anything I assume. While looking for more videos last night to see if I could find more info I came across C2C Entrelac (Tunisian crochet) and I might like the control I have with that better. I'm going to do one little sample piece of each and see what I think will look better for the finished project.
Thank you for this video. I’ve understood so much. I do however have a basic question. Why do a c2c? It seems so un necessarily complicated vs just working a design in. As in, is there a special reason I’m missing out on as to the advantage of this technique?
So glad you found the video helpful! I find that working a color graph in c2c works up more quickly and the graphs are easier to follow as each pixel represents a block of 3 dc together. I hope that makes sense!
I’m new to crochet, so I’m curious. Why do you not cut the first colour and work over that end as well as the new colour’s end? Would that not secure it and save you the need to make bobbins?
That is a great question! You could certainly do that. However, the more complicated the colors changes the more ends to weave in. If you have bobbins you can pull the yarn back into your work without and end to weave in. I am not a big fan of end weaving hence bobbins. 😉
can i just add color as i go? like each row or square color change i cut off an weave ends in later ? just until i do a few to get the hang then go learn color carry? i dont mind weaving my ends or tales as you wish to call some do... im just trying to learn to add the color where to change it an how to read the graph... then ill do the color carry... is that possible?
Absolutely - you can certainly cut & weave in ends instead of carrying colors. That is a great idea as you are practicing while you are getting familiar with the technique. Once you have more confidence then you could move on to carrying colors especially with more complicated color graphs with a lot of color changes. It is entirely up to you!
Trying this out and stuck at "corner " on written pattern. Once I finish row 12, the pattern says corner as if you don't ch 6 and start row 13. But when I ss over and started row 13, everything is off. I clicked on link but it didn't show a video just pictures.
How do you feel about bringing the tail of the new color through as well in the second method? In doesn't change the look but in my head makes it a little more secure. I don't have a lot of faith in my weaving in skills.
this still seems so hard for me and i cannot still seem to figure out how to "weave in ends" still and ive been crocheting over 20 years...im scared itll all fall apart if i just keep cutting them at the ends and bringing in after.
I don't have a video showing how to weave in the ends but here is a video by another designer that may be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/iREQkJeUKwM/v-deo.htmlsi=qp9lUanEPrWgbWIW
Tonya I'm making a graph-ghan so when it says to maintain a row I'm I still to decrease on one side and not the other end of the row? I'm confused with my row instructions I have for my pattern. It says on rows 81 thru 100 to maintain...can you help with that. I'm stuck! Thank you!
Would it be possible for you to send me a link to the instructions or send a photo to me at my email of nanascraftyhome@gmail.com? I would love to help and I want to make sure I am steering you in the right direction!

Tonya, I have been working this dishcloth, however, I am stuck for sure. Row 13..when I get to the end I have 3 sections instead of two so I can't slip stitch and turn. Please help. Thank you.
I am happy to help JoAnne! Would you be able to send me a photo of the problem you are having to nanascraftyhome@gmail.com? I want to make sure I give you the correct advice.
I get my flat plastic bobbins at my local craft store. They are Clover brand bobbins but you can also get them on Amazon as well. I use them all the time! You can see details on Amazon here (affiliate): amzn.to/3phXTLc
Are you weaving in your cut ends or are you working over a knot? I generally don't recommend tying ends together without weaving it just makes me nervous the knots will come loose with washing and wear. However, if you are confident that they won't come loose that is fine. Hope that helps!
Hi Tonya, I am new to c2c and graphghan, I practiced the c2c and got it, but still trying to figure out how to make a graph of my own. Is there a program for this? You're good at teaching this because you don't go through it fast like some other channels. I can't learn that fast.

If I am misunderstanding your question please let me know! 😊
Thank you for responding. Stitch fiddle for me was not working very well. It was very pixelated and distorted. I did it through paint and that seemed to work after I cleaned up the boxes. I do have another question though, how or when do you start to decrease on your pattern?
@@sholayork9936 if you have created your graph you will decrease when you get to the corners of the graph at the left hand side and the top of the graph. If you have made a square graph, you will decrease on the same row. I hope that helps! 😊
Sorry to confuse you! I prefer to sl st in the ch when working dc c2c but into the ch sp when working mini hdc. I think the "hole" or "gap" made when working into the ch-3 sp is a little smaller but definitely a personal preference. Whatever works for you. Thanks for watching!

Update - I took my excel file to the local print shop and they were able to print it out on a 34" x 26" paper from excel I'm a left handed crocheter, does this mean I'm starting with the bottom left corner rather than the bottom right corner?
Kelly -- I am not a left handed crocheter but from my understanding, for left handed corner to corner the graph is mirrored so I believe that would be correct. Here is a link to a left-handed C2C tutorial that may be of some help. ua-cam.com/video/fSyaHc3KWsI/v-deo.html. Let me know if you have any additional questions! 😊
@@nanascraftyhome Thank you. I have one last question, I have a pattern that is drawn in excel and I took it to Office Depot to have them print it but they could not. It is 91 squares left to right and 164 squares top to bottom. Do you print out your patterns or draw them on graph paper?
I typically will try to scale them to fit on one piece of paper -- legal if it is really large. I use Stitchfiddle.com to create my graphs and it will allow me to fit on one page to print. It is a free service and I have a tutorial to help people navigate if they have never used it before. Hope it helps you! ua-cam.com/video/EPBTVrCZouk/v-deo.html
I watch this video often as reference. I'm making my first c2c but reading directions by row instead of following graph. After row 90 it says "reduce from the right." Then after row 100, it says "reduce from the left." I'm a bit confused. Can you please help? I'd appreciate it.
Happy to help, Annie! Basically those instructions are saying that you begin decreasing after row 90. So that will be as "tall" as that side will get. Once you finish row 100, you will begin decreasing that side. So instead of a square (in which you would begin decreasing at the same row) you are making a rectangle shape. I hope that helps but let me know if you need anything else. ❤️😊
Thank you for taking the time to help me out! I think I get it. After row 90, I start decreasing. I am still increasing at the ends. Then after row 100, I start decreasing. Am I increasing at the ends? I guess my pattern will show me that but I want to be clear.
The Heart Graph I am making with c2c ends up an approximate size of 10 1/2″ wide x 9 1/2″ tall which would be approximately 27 cm x 25 cm. Hope that helps!

How do you feel about bringing the tail of the new color through as well in the second method? In doesn't change the look but in my head makes it a little more secure. I don't have a lot of faith in my weaving in skills.
Absolutely - and you can crochet over the tail as you work as well! 😊❤️
Beautiful!
Thank you so much Liz!
this still seems so hard for me and i cannot still seem to figure out how to "weave in ends" still and ive been crocheting over 20 years...im scared itll all fall apart if i just keep cutting them at the ends and bringing in after.
Nana Kate.
Do u have a tutorial on creating a pattern
Are you interested in creating your own graphs? If so, I do have a tutorial for that using a free service called Stitch Fiddle and you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/EPBTVrCZouk/v-deo.html
Where do you get your bobbins
I get my flat plastic bobbins at my local craft store. They are Clover brand bobbins but you can also get them on Amazon as well. I use them all the time! You can see details on Amazon here (affiliate): amzn.to/3phXTLc
Is it bad I cut the yarn and tie another on to colour change ...
So glad you found the video helpful for you! Absolutely I have a tutorial that will show you how to use Stitch Fiddle which is a free service. Here is the link to the tutorial - I hope it helps!

I’m trying my best to do a TMNT baby blanket, is there a rule of thumb when it comes to what type of graph paper to print out whatever your making? At the moment a friend colored in the blocks on a graph paper that has smaller blocks
Have you ever used stitchfiddle.com to make your graph and print it from there? It is a free service unless you want upgrades and that is what I use to design my graphs. Makes it a lot easier! Hope that helps!
Hi Tonya I am a new subscriber and I was brought to your site bcuz you did a hat with this graphghan wanted to know if you have a tutorial for the heart hat I saw on share patterns site. Thank you. From Connecticut ♥️
Welcome! I don’t have a complete tutorial for the hat however, I did provide a tutorial for the C2C stitch. I am working on a tutorial on how to read graphs and written row by row instructions which should help you complete the hat. Hope that helps!
Awesome!!! Thank you so much. You Rock! That was a quick response. I will be looking out for the video. Oh by the way my name is Tonya too😂 have a Good Day. Thank you for sharing your talents♥️
TADA Dreams always happy to help! Nice to meet another Tonya, too! 😊
Where do you go to create the graph and how do you get it the size you want it to? Can't seem to figure it out, please help
I am happy to help - are you wanting to create a new graph? I use Stitchfiddle.com to create all of my graphs and I do have a complete tutorial to help with this free program here: nanascraftyhome.com/create-your-own-c2c-corner-to-corner-graphs-using-stitch-fiddle/.
This would make a cute preemie afghan with adding a fancy crocheted edge.
What a wonderful and beautiful idea! My niece was a preemie and she would have fit perfectly in this when she was born - so small and perfect! ❤️
Thank you so much for this video! I was originally so confused about the bobbin idea, but you made it look so easy!
You are so welcome! So happy you found it helpful! 😊
I haven’t see any c2c slip stitch into a chain stitch just the open space of the chain and now I’m confused lol
Hi..badly need help. This piece sentence "HAPPY 7 th BIRTHDAY WINSETH DOUGLAS HITI
Can it be done in c2 c crochet ?any way .how possible? If u say yes design it for me please...l really like the design part please as l poor on it..
Absolutely it would be possible to create that saying in c2c! Unfortunately, I do not create custom c2c graphs but there is a Facebook Group for C2C and I am sure someone could help you. Here is a link to that group - I hope it helps! facebook.com/groups/1600286460226711/

U ss not in the space but in the actual chain?
Carmen Martinez-Mercado I ss into the top of the chain not the space but work the 3 dc stitches into the space. Hope that helps!
Tonya Bush oh that’s definitely gonna help me, it’s more of cleaner look, I love that tip🥰 Thank You So Much 😊
Update - I took my excel file to the local print shop and they were able to print it out on a 34" x 26" paper from excel
I'm a left handed crocheter, does this mean I'm starting with the bottom left corner rather than the bottom right corner?
I guess my pattern will show me that but I want to be clear.
how many centimeters long and wide?
The Heart Graph I am making with c2c ends up an approximate size of 10 1/2″ wide x 9 1/2″ tall which would be approximately 27 cm x 25 cm. Hope that helps!
tks Tonya 👍
Thanks You
You're welcome! So glad you found it helpful!

That is a lot of effort for a dish cloth. It's too pretty.
Yes it is very pretty. I would use it as a potholder. I get too many stains on my dishcloths for this much work.
Thanks 🙏💕🙏
