The mic isn't doing the Revv any justice for some reason. I have a regular 3 channel dual and a MkII Generator 120 and the Revv is so much clearer and defined and cuts through the mix. Also one thing very noticeable when leaving a Mesa Recto and going to something like this is how un noisy the amp is. Mesa's have this hiss in the background that just doesn't exist on something higher end like the Revv. Its hard to explain without being there and there's only so much Kyle can replicate without being in the room with both.
@@benpotter4905 I’ve been wanting to try a multi watt recto for a while now. I assumed they would sound similar to a three channel rev. I kind of like the idea of cutting the wattage to crank it more for better tube saturation. I will have to try one.
I Fully expected the Revv to walk over the Rec here...but it was the other way around lol. I own a Dual Rectifier and I'm a pretty big fan of Mesa products in general, so maybe I'm biased lol. But in this video the Rectifier crushed the Revv thro the whole video. Good job with this man!! 🤘
Mesa DR for the win. I will say the Rev sounded better than I thought it would, but compared to the DR it's like someone took the DR and EQ'd out all of the special character that makes it unique. Great demo also, I like the detail you put into it.
@@belligerentamateur Hi Kyle, great video ! subbed today. I need a high gain amp for the staple. I am looking for modern metal tones. I have a chance to get a Mesa Boogie Multi Watt for a very good used price. I also have a lead on a Mesa Trem-O-Verb at a good used price as well or I can jump on a Revv at full retail. Any thoughts would be helpful.
I am not sure if it is because I have a recto, but to me, the mesa sounded meaner. Both are great amps! I liked the Soaked in Torment riffs at the end 🤘
I have the 100p. But every time I see the tread plate on a rectifier my inner Hetfield makes me want the rectifier because it reminds me of his tread plate esp Mx
Get the Rectifier modified and you'll love it. I never bonded with Rectifiers till I had BFG modify it. Then it became one of my favorite amps of all time. :) 2002 DR BFG modified. Sounds frickin massive and full.
You've just run the Orange channel of the Rectifier, I found it more scooped and more low-mid oriented than the Red Ch. Eventhough, what I hear of your video is that the Mesa have more presence and mids than the Revv, rather than what you say maybe it's in the room? The Mesa's Red Ch. is definetly more aggressive and I like it à lot 😈
Mesa for sure! In the context of a mix I’d say the Revv would definitely cut better but I definitely would take the Mesa imo. It’d be interesting to hear an A/B comparison in the mix between the two.
Mesa slays the revv through the whole video. Revv almost sounds like it has a blanket over it in comparison. Mesa is super clear and present. But seems you’re hearing almost the opposite in the room?
Nice...Same cab and mic position? They do sound similar if you have a mental post EQ, but for everyone to judge the mid punch and depth for example they gotta have their own mic placement to make up for any difference. As you would do if either were your one amp and you were about to perform live or record. They were both designed in different situations so they won't match on a track if used with the same cab and mic set up. I preferred the Mesa here but your test did show how similar the Revv can sound in terms of aggressiveness. With the added bonus of being available to us foreign weirdos (so weird, right) and the modern features, Revv is much better :) Thanks for the vid!
This Mesa sounds amazing wow!! I’m a Revv fan and still prefer the Revv. But wow that Mesa has a lot of girth. Why is the Revv volume dropping so much? Maybe a bad tube? That Revv is like a laser guided missile so precise.
Coming back to this after this long, and now awaiting a triple rectifier, I wanted to see if I still felt the Revv was better. I think I now know why I thought it was better at that time, the Generator seems much more wet, saturated. While the Mesa is more punchy and in your face, not quite as smooth if you will. Easily adjusted for if desired, but my tastes and genre have changed so I actually think the Mesa will give me more what I am looking for right now. Many boosts and ODs to test with the Mesa and dial one in and find my 'perfect' tone. Really good demo and comparison, shows where each one shines clearly. They are not the same, but can be made to produce similar tones when tweaked..
I feel like the Mesa fills the room more, but the Revv would sound better in the context of a full mix. I personally preferred the Recto in this shootout, but in a mix it'd likely be the Revv I'd prefer. (just my personal take tho)
Maybe im just the odd man out, but I liked the Revv more. I am also not a 'amp in room" type person, im more of an "amp through mic" person and I found the revv overall way smoother and wy less harsh. I find the recto had a lot more 5k-8k in it and a lot of brightness to it ( This also may be do to the cab since I find mesa cabs have more bite (5k) than most cabs). I guess a lot of people like brighter/harsher tones because we as humans tend to naturally like that. I like to think of sounds and amps through a mix, and if I recorded the recto I would have to spend some time kicking all the harshness out of it.
Had a Recto MultiWatt, finally sold it as I was looking for some more kids and less flubby lows in combination with sizzly/mushy high-end. I recignise the DNA in this vid, but the Recto seems more balanced. Am I wrong or have you modded it? Sounds way better than my MultiWatt from what I can remember. The Revv is actually less exciting in this shootout. Great video as always, Thx!
Prefer the mesa, but i might be biased as its an amp i wanted to add to my collection since i first started playing have a peavey Invective 120 and a Marshall JVM410H joe satriani model but still want a mesa
wow just saw this video, Mesa all the way man that punch just so good in my ears but the features Revv offer its gonna be tough choice, if u have Mesa recto already just get the Revv. but u can still get another recto if u want u cant go wrong getting another rectifier 😅
Now I'm really wishing I had gotten the DR multiwatt I was looking at last year when supply and prices were more reasonable. The revv red channel was pretty good but I didn't like the purple channel much
I like them both but there was very noticeable volume difference in what came across youtube. The Mesa was louder the majority of the time for some reason. So "sounded better". In a mix the Revv is much easier to work with especially for down-tuned metal. I love them both though, just different use cases. Fun to listen to comparisons though. Thx
@@belligerentamateur All I know is you inspired me to play with both today and that's a good thing. Still trying to hunt down an older Mesa OS 4x12 cab. You should get a KHE amp switcher so you can shoot out even more amps at once, that would be sweet.

I’ve play both of them and you don’t need a REVV 120 or the MESA. The REVV 100P or 100R are the way to go. All you lose is a channel you’ll probably never use anyway. Save the 1000.00 to 1400.00 and put it towards a cabinet…

I have sold Hi-Fi for years, the Revv is the very best og these two amps, The mids on the Revv is killing the Mesa... the mesa sounds to much like compressor...
Like the Mesa much more.
Maybe in the room the Revv sounded clearer, but through the mics the Recto sounded way clearer and punchier
The Mesa sounds way better to me. Every time I hear a Revv, it sounds like there’s a blanket over the speakers.
Agreed. The Mesa did not sound boxy and congested to me. Revv had a blanket. Great Demo as always Kyle.
The Mesa sound way too harsh to me. It has too much 5k-8k in it for my taste. It might be the cab/mic combo but the Revv is just so much smoother.
I agree. The Mesa sounded super clear to me.
Yup, It’s classic, like a fist clinched in the pocket dying to unleash. Total babe. 😎

I made my mind up. Getting the badlander 50. Maybe the 100. $300 more.
Maybe not enough people watched until he hit the red channel on the Revv. They are pretty damn close and the Revv doesn't need a boost.

The multi watt are much clearer and bass is more controlled
The Revv sounds thin and abrasive to me. Of course it’s all a matter of personal preference but I prefer the deeper, stronger low end on vac the Mesa.
