I just dropped the money for my test last week. I've run through a practice test already. Apart from the that I have an ASL certificate from the university of Pittsburgh on top of teaching in a private deaf school for the past 5 years... I think I'll do alright - but I really appreciate any extra help - and your videos are great.
Thank you! I'm taking the NIC on Saturday. I know the test has changed yet again and sadly I'm having trouble finding resources to help with the newest version, and no workshop leaders will touch it yet until more is known and more of the kinks worked out of the test. But still, this was helpful. Thank you!
Good luck and hope it goes great! RID did just put out a bulletin on the enhanced NIC...with detailed info on the validity of the exam. May be posted on their website... Cheers!
HI! Sorry for delay replying...It is up to you...the new exam is based on the current one if I understand correctly. If you take it now, it will be similar content. If you want to do it now, I'd say go for it. If you want to study more and can wait, then you could try the updated version. One thing I'm not sure is if you take the newer one if your results will come back quicker. I think they are trying to speed up the scoring process on the new version....best!
Hi Jason~ Congrats on passing written RID exam! Good idea to shadow other terps...also keep watching vlogs online to expose yourself to different signers (deafvideotv/deafcube etc...) and interact socially with D/HH community, and interpret regularly/daily. Some interpreters are using VRS work to help them prepare for RID NIC exam, as many VRS companies hire non-certified interpreters. Also if you can get actual feedback from a certified terp on your work, that can help too! Best!
And so... I passed the test! Now that I am back into some stable brain-ing and not thinking of other things I'm starting to study up on the interview portion. I'll be following your videos closely - but can you recommend any other study guides? (I'll be shadowing some local terps as is so - that's the best I can get as is. :)
I just had an idea regarding some feedback when you'd said "challenge vloggers..." I was thinking of filming myself interpreting NPR and uploading it to my channel and just opening it up for critique. I've done performances for 13 years now - regarding criticism, my skin is a foot thick. What do you think?
It has been a few years since you posted this video. I wonder if you have any new information, strategies, ideas, and prep that you could share with your followers? Thank you!
I heard that RID will again be changing the NIC exam. Do you know if this is true? IF so what would be different? Do you feel a person should wait for the new exam or just take what is being given now? I also want to thank you for your videos they are very helpful !
Omg that was a lot to digest. Lol I got it all though. This video with your advice/opinion about preparation for this test will be most helpful!! Thank a lot SH!! _\m/ *kiss-fist* You!!
And then I kept watching and stopped and said aloud *embarrassingly in public* "OH! WAIT! That's where I heard the idea from...!" HA! Anyway, your idea is good is what I meant to say - I'll go for some NPR terping and upload it soon. :)
Hi! Thanks for comment!
Good luck with your exam! Glad you found the vlogs helpful...Best!

My test is on February 1st! I just signed up the other day. Rest assured I'll be watching your videos often now.

I wonder what your sign for preparation is from?
Just to know the area where it is used.
Thanks! I like your tips.
