If you're like most people, you probably have a to-do list, and you use it to help you focus on getting things done.
If you don't have it, you might want to make one, as it brings plenty of psychological benefits.
However, I would also suggest you create a not-to-do list.
This list compliments the to-do list incredibly well, and it might be even more important.
Let me explain...

Graduating from school made me realize that I CAN NOT handle pure freedom well. Having that structure made it much easier for me to focus and made free time seem more precious.

@Alex i wouldnt mind them if they werent so blatant fishing for subscribing and watching his videos
Fernsehen macht dumm! What do you think?
Fernsehen macht dumm! Free is when we are at peace at what we do and who we are and are 100% comfortable and in control. Will is our the strength of our desire and want and feelins
@@Seasonal-Shadow_4674 Strangely enough, most people who say this are also against liberty and freedom and prefer more despotic conditions, although if you really believe, that there's no free will, then "controling" and "managing" people would be absolutely senseles, since in your opinion it would make no difference, whether you control people or you don't. But all you people know, that people don't behave the same, when they are in the same situation, but their abilities and beliefs play a central role and decide how they're going to behave.
Irony being that I'm stuck watching these videos instead of doing work! 🙃

This is basically creating a "Mom List" of things that your mother used to stop you from doing when you had homework or chores to do. Moving out and growing up means you have to "Mom List" yourself now :p
Yeah as one motivational speaker said in a talk I watched, you have to be your own parent.
That's self-discipline because you might never feel like doing it so just do it.
MiraBethy What if you never met your mom
@@davidgonzalez-herrera2980 Oh snap
"I have become that which I swore to destroy!"
I don't have a to-do list anymore (after my burnout, when I had massive daily to do lists), I have a ta-da list in stead, where I write down what I have done when I've done it. 😉
Less pressure, I still get shit done, and days when I feel like I've gotten nothing done I can look at the list an realize I've actually achieved a lot.
Believe it or not, I'm doing an "I-ve-done" list, when I mark everything I have done which is useful. I still hold accountable. The thing is that to-do makes me actually to not do things from the list at all
And it is exactly because I mostly feel drowsy and de motivated. So this list is telling me "you've done it, even though you thought you couldn't"
This is a great idea! Especially for perfectionists (like me...)
I do these, sometimes. They're good for giving yourself credit for important things that you forget to count, and you can also use them to track actions you could phase out and replace.
Reminds me of Patrik from Spongebobs list:
To do:
- Nothing CHECK
- Relax CHECK
Yeah you get the point :D
Not-to-do list
1. Go on social media
2. Play video games
3. Listen to music
4. Stay on my phone📱
5. Watch UA-cam videos etc
6. Procrastinate
7. Run out of ideas
8. Not meditate
9. Not learn something new
10. Not reflect
Todo:
- Complete some work
Not Todo:
- Watch distracting videos on UA-cam
mood 😂
to be fair I must admit that the UA-cam videos contribute a huge self-development.
Now, I m so confident to say
That " better than yesterday "
Is actually making me
Better than yesterday !
This is brilliant. Rather than making a separate list, I'm just going to add the NOTs to my bullet journal's daily to-do list. If I check everything off the list on a given day, I give myself a sticker in the journal. It sounds juvenile, but it is strangely motivating (also rare, maybe 1 out of every 7 days), like getting a bonus reward in a game.
you should check out this app called habitica! its literally a to do list app that works by giving you game rewards when you check off tasks!
@@lauralos9973 I love Habitica! I've been a subscriber for ~4 years. :)
Free Will is an Illusion.
Im going to give your method a try. Idk if it sounds juvenile of it works im in. I really want to liberate my self from procrastinating it has hindered me from accomplishing my goals too many times.
@@xoli.8780 Good luck! I find the key is not adding too many tasks to any one day's list. If I never earn any stickers, it's a sign that I'm over-tasking myself and need to be more realistic about how much can get done.
"You would think these limits would frustrate mike because he doesn't have as much freedom as before, in fact this limitation liberated him" Exactly there are times limits liberate you and many people don't get this.

I haven't ever heard of this idea before it sounds really good and helpful. I'm going to make one right now. Thanks
no words can describe how i am so grateful to find this video, this is what i am struggling with past months
how did it go ?
This channel is like an online mentor/coach for adults. When we're grown it's easy to forget that we don't know everything & that there's always room to improve ourselves & our lives in general. These videos along with TedTalks really have helped & benefited me in *so many aspects. Thank U 4 the content!! Per usual, I always learn something new.👏👏👏
#1 NOT TO DO is procrastinate
@Bruh Moment Bruh।।

It’s beneficial to be more specific
I'll do it tomorrow
You beat procrastination by planning your day!
We are both in our 80's and still believe in having a strong body and a calm mind. This was an interesting video and we learned a lot. We are doing research for our new YT channel that is all about healthy aging. Thank you so much and keep up the great work!
This channel is so good since it doesnt make you wait with too much introductions and start with the point in a small story like way and its among the few channels I actually listen to without getting distracted or read the comments instead of watching. I also loved your other video about mini habits. Its working well for me
This is such a great channel. I feel like "Mike" has become a personal friend, I'm always so happy to see him lol.
Yes, I was missing him, he hadn't visited us for a while 🤗
Not to do:
Junk food
Laziness
procrastination
distractions
Too vague, set yourself times as well for when you can do things

Eh, I'll do all of those tmr

A very similar thing I did for studying was not to plan my study time and not know what to do in between, but instead plan my free time like sleep, eating and even one hour to play my favorite game.
Because then, during planned time, I was free to think about the things I want to study during unplanned time.
So, some kind of inverse psychology: Normally we make plans for complex tasks. But if you put eating, sleeping and playing games onto that list, studying is something easy that you can do out of boredom.
I needed this in quarantine where schools arent there so we can enjoy anytime when we feel sad.
Also the point that TIER 2 activity shouldnt be done if u can do TIER 1 is something i should follow.
Thank you for video.
NOT TO DO: Procrastinate
TO DO: Take Action!
Honestly, this is a great idea! I love lists, but have never considered not-to-do lists.
It seems so simple, but it never crossed my mind before.
Thank you for all of the great ideas and motivation. I've learned a lot from your channel.
This is really helpful. I never thought like this, "Too much of freedom can be crippling!!". Thank you!!
Thanks bro! You just fixed major part of my life. You are a sage, although you sound young. Wisdom of ages is with you
Thank u for making this video, this really helped me with my life before school starts, because usually I become lazy once school is over, fix my self for a few days, not fully though and go to school. even though it has been 10 hours since u posted this, it still helped me more than the other days I tried to help myself combined. Thank you.
I wish I could implement this to myself, but, freedom is so addictive. I think writing down a todo and not to do list would be a great start.
This is so powerful! In fact, watching TV in the morning or at mid-day used to be firmly on my "not to do list". The reason was simply that there was no TV programme where I live before 4 p.m. when I was a child.
But I've caved in on that one. It was better then the rule was still in place. 🙂
You're very resilient, I remember when your subscriber hasn't reached 100k yet and look at you now. Thank you for keep inspiring!
Just made a To-Do list as I was procrastinating since couple months and wanted to get back on track to study but after watching this video I also have made my Not-To-Do list. Thanks a lot!❤

Thank you for this video. I definitely have this problem of delaying important work so that I could play, only to end up not enjoying my time because I worry about the things I left for later. It's quite the vicious cycle, I will try making a not-to-do list. Again thanks for the great video!
As always great tips. I unconsciously put something like this into my home-study routine already, but now that I know about it, I'm going to implement this fully.
Keep growing! You are a real life hero for me. Pls never stop making these super realistic and awesome content! ☺️
Thank you bro, one of the best youtuber
The Not-To-Do list technique eliminates mental load required for decision making, and also creates clear boundaries. So yes, it is indeed liberating. Thank you for your videos, they are truly interesting and engaging!
A “not to do” list?! My mind is blown by this simple yet profound way of sidestepping procrastination 🙌 I am loving this 🙌
I found this very useful.
I did make one small change. I called it a "Do-Not-Do List". Somehow, that works well for me.
Awesome video, thank you! I've actually had such a hard time with boundaries and saying no - including to myself and this feels like a great way to do it and parent myself in the process. Setting certain limits is indeed liberating and I'm excited to give this to myself. Peace and love 🙏💜🕊️🌹🌞

When I saw the title, I thought, dang, this dude’s thinking outside the box. Good stuff!
For some reason after I graduated I had so much freedom that I played video games every day for a month straight. Paradoxically, it lost its appeal, and eventually I started doing school stuff and excersice on my own. After I had finished all the productive things I needed to do for the day, playing games felt fulfilling again lol
Love your videos. So simple and yet so much information 👍🏼
This is really useful. Thank you so much 😊
Great video! Another way of achieving good work and study habits is to set goals that have a fixed schedule. For example, working hours 9am to 5pm, study time 6pm to 8pm, and entertainment time after 8pm.
Best video from this channel , I'm motivated by it . but it doesn't mean that the other videos are bad , good effort thanks a lot
My God!!! How RIGHT he is! Thank you for sharing.

Great video as always, I definitely do feel better than yesterday after watching your videos keep it up the good work!
Damn I needed this so much right now. Trying to grow my UA-cam channel means I need to spend more time on it, editing and writing my videos. Only life keeps distracting me with things that'll take that time, Playstation and a job I hate in retail offering me work with an okay income but no long term fulfilling change.

Tim Ferris is also a great proponent of making a Not-To-Do list.
It indeed is a great rule to act as the boundary to manage time and productivity.
Great video :)
I didn't even knew about a not to do list!
Thank you for making this video!
In the past, I spent too much time on choosing different items that I wanted to do, like watching my favourite videos, cooking for myself, learning English online, and reading my favourable books. This really wastes time because I am most likely to do the easiest and most effortless things, which keeps me from finishing my study tasks in the end. It makes me feel guilty and sad all the time. After watching this video, however, I wil try to make a NOT-TO-DO List to focus on the most important task.
I think this video uploaded at the perfect time for me, this is an amazing idea that will make a difference! 👍
Thanks for the videos they really help.

Thank you so much!! This video popped up just at the right time, i can't believe the magic of this universe.
I love my freedom, so I fully shifted to freelance writing for the past few months. What I didn't see coming was the extreme kinds of procrastination that I am capable of. Too much freedom has left me always worrying about work yet not doing any of it. As a result... I don't even enjoy my freedom.
I am going to put this in practise!! And put limitations on myself 😭😭
Thanks for this video
