Hi, Betty! I cannot thank you enough for being so generous with this information. As a burgeoning artist embarking on a new path, having your creative, business, and personal insights, as well as your support, is exactly what is needed to keep things moving forward for someone like myself. I am so very grateful to you for taking the time to share your wisdom with those of us who need just a bit more assurance to be brave!
You are so welcome! I'm glad to hear that this video was helpful to you in your journey! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Hi Betty, great video. I do art shows in Southern Cal and your info is in alignment with what I do. My biggest take away from what you shared today is, using the word EMAIL rather than NEWSLETTER. That is such a good point. I tend to use the word NEWSLETTER and people seem to want to run the other way. I plan to apply your suggestion at the next show . Thanks so much!
That is awesome! Glad that tip was useful. Please let me know if you're getting more folks signing up by changing that word. Thanks so much for watching!
As usual you have overdelivered and your help to others artists is so appreciated. Thank you!
Happy to help! Thank you!
@@BettyFranksArt Personally i find them very emotionally or mentally draining. I guess I should really try to muster up more gusto and give it a go again. Its been a few years since I did.
@@HarmonyThiessen I totally agree with you! They can be extremely draining. It's not for everyone. That's why I stopped doing them.
Oh Miss Betty,
This is the best advice, thank you so very much. And you kept that pretty smile. I imagine you have heard this many times.
You are super kind, Holyn! Thank you!!
Excellent presentation. I've done art fairs too and frankly it's a lot of work. I put out a water bowl for strollers with dogs and that really made a nice impression on people. They often stopped in to see my pieces. Another good idea is securing you tent with sand bags. When that wind kicks up your tent quickly becomes a kite. I especially liked her cargo platform to store your tent. It will be cheaper than renting from U-haul after a few shows.
Great tips! Love the doggie water bowl idea. Great way to get folks to stop and check out your artwork. And, sandbags are a must! Most shows won't let you setup without them. Totally forgot to mention that. Thanks for sharing!
This video contains a wealth of information, thank you for posting it!
Glad it was helpful, Dan! Wishing you tons of success!
I love your information! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
You are amazing! So much information! Thank you for being so organized and thorough.
Yay! Glad you found the information helpful, Gail! Wishing you tons of success!
Very helpful! Sounds extremely tiring! Thank you for being so willing to share with those of us who are learning all about this world of art.
Glad it was helpful! You're very welcome, Carolyn!
This is excellent ! I have organized art walk shows and shown in them.
In an earlier post, I mentioned the 'business of art'. Festivals. Art walks, ect. are all part of it and it takes a lot of time, money, effort, and planning. I agree that beginners shouldn't do these venues at first. Start with local art league shows to get your feet wet.
Competitions, art walks, festivals, ect. can really burn out an artist, even seasoned professionals. If you aren't careful, you might even get so frustrated. you'll quit art all together.
Find a level that fits your overall lifestyle in general. It will take years to develop it, so don't be hard on yourself unnecessarily.
When all else falls.... just paint ! 😜
Totally agree with you, Tom! Each artist needs to figure out what works best for them.
Thank you for all your valuable information. 🙏 Sooo helpful and it helps you decide whether it is for you or not. ❤ Not everyone is cut out for art fairs. 💐👍
So true! It's physically difficult and talking to people all day can be draining. Thanks for watching!

Wonderful! Makes me happy to hear that it was helpful to you!
Great tips, thank you Betty! I’m doing my first festival next month and your info was super helpful as usual! ❤
Have fun!
Betty, thank you for taking the time to make this video. I did art festivals for several years and agree with everything you said. Those were my experiences too. Of course, there really weren't any festivals last year which was very unfortunate because my sister always did the festivals with me. I wish we could have enjoyed the spring and fall shows because she passed away in November. I did not think that I would want to do festivals ever again. However, I did just sign up and pay my fee for our favorite festival in November this year. My art has changed since our last festival in the fall of 2019, so my booth display setup is going to have to change. I've been really reluctant to get started making the plans for the changes. However, your video popped up today and it gave me some motivation to get moving. Thank you!
I am so very sorry for your loss, Cyndi. I can't imagine how difficult it has been for you to lose your sister and best friend. I bet you both had a great time doing festivals together. I'm so happy to hear that you agree with what I talked about. I didn't realize I had so much to say on the topic! I wish you tons of success in your fall festival!
👍 Looking forward to beginning this process. This presentation brings many unknowns into focus. Inspiring. 🍀
Wonderful! Glad to hear that the information was helpful, Steven! Wishing you all the best!

Yay! Happy to help, Miriam! Wishing you all the best!
This is a great video with such good tips. I cant wait til I get to go to my next festival.
Glad it was helpful! Have a super successful show!
Thank you, wonderful information. I wish I had viewed this before my first show!
You are so welcome! I'm glad you found the information helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing all of this information. I believe this was the most comprehensive video that I have found on the subject. I am planning to participate in my first local small art walk next month and will be attending this weekend to get a feel for what it's like before I actually participate.
Thank you for that feedback, Lillian! I'm so happy the content was helpful to you. Wishing you great success at your art walk!!
Thank you for sharing all your thoughts and ideas with us ❤️
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!
Wonderful, informative video. Thank you. I have been a festival vendor for many years and you have covered everything expertly. I am just starting my venture into the world of selling my art, so thank you for your comprehensive information !!!!
You are so welcome, Evelyn! Wishing you all the best!
This video was SUPRR INFORMATIVE!! Thank you so much for taking the time to comprehensively answer my many questions and concerns about this topic. I hope you are having a wonderful time with your folks in Croatia 🇭🇷😊❤❤❤
I'm so glad you found it informative, Diana! I didn't realize I had so much to share on the topic! I'm having a wonderful time with my parents. Thank you!
Thank you for such comprehensive Generous information!
Glad it was helpful! You're very welcome!
Thank you so much for all that info that was very very helpful
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for sharing with us Betty. Great information and tips for us newbies that don't have a clue how to go about it. I don't know if I will ever enter a big art festival but can use this information you shared for the small art and craft shows and flea markets I go to.
You are so welcome! Yes, you can definitely use some of this info for art and craft shows!
This was so informative on your journey of art festivals Betty, I learned tons from you. I have done previous art festivals and I haven't done any for about eight years so I am building my collection for work again to try this adventure of marketing again. Thank you for the links to the director's chair and the walls for haning art.
You're very welcome, Pamela! Wishing you great success!
Thank you so much for this video! As a new artist, I've wondered about the nuts and bolts of doing art festivals and you very thoroughly answered all of my questions. This past summer I did exactly what you recommended: attended two local art festivals (one small and the other large), walked the entire festival, took note of the type of vendors and flow of traffic, talked with the artists and asked them about their experiences. Since all of the artists were listed online at the festival website, I was able to identify which artists worked in a similar style as me so that I could get an idea of how well my work might be received. It was really helpful and I made a few contacts with local artists. Thanks again and I'm looking forward to checking out your other videos!
Yay! Way to do your homework, Cheryl! And, you made some new connections. So cool!
Hey Betty! For a future youtube, would you consider showing us how to create a floating frame? I remember you said one time you make your own. Thanks for this video though, I'm in an art festival June 6 and this is helping immensely!!!
Hi Lou-Ann! I have made frames (stretchers) for canvases, but not floating frames. And, I couldn't do a video on making stretchers because I no longer have the tools to do them. I buy all my canvases ready to go. Wishing you great success on June 6!!
@@BettyFranksArt Ah! So do you buy the floating frames we see in your pics sometimes? Thanks so much! Enjoy Croatia!
@@lou-anncouch3147 Yes! I got them online years ago. I don't recall the company name. But, if you Google it, you should find some in your area.
@@BettyFranksArt Thanks!!
Well Done! Thanks for your time.
Thanks so much for watching, Gary!
Hello Betty, thank for taking the time for this share. This year I am in the planning phase to present at my first art festival and I find this share so helpful in my journey. Thank you! I so appreciate the time you have taken to put this together!! Thank you again ~ Madeline 🌺

What a beautiful presentation of information. Not only does it assist new artists but it helps the consumer understand how things generally work. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful, Kathy! I didn't realize I had so much to say on the topic! Actually, I probably could have talked for another hour or two!
Thank you so much for these informative videos, they're very helpful with lots of ideas and insights. I'm in the UK, so things are a little different here but, still, so much of what you've shared is relevant 😊🙏🏻
Wonderful! I'm glad that you can use some of the info in the UK. Thanks, Susan!
Thank you this was very helpful!😊
You're so welcome! Wishing you tons of success!
Thanks for the great information.💞
You're very welcome, Sharon! Glad you found it helpful!
Wow you are so thoughtful and helpful sharing this priceless info with us all. It is my plan to do a few art festival/art & craft show type events just for the social experience as well. Thank you so much for this advice. :-)
You are so welcome! Glad to hear the information was helpful! Wishing you great success!
Thank you for this excellent video. As someone just starting out on the art show circuit, the information was so helpful with a lot of great tips. Also, I love your art!
Yay! Makes me happy to hear that the video was informative. Wishing you great success!
Wow, Betty, that was so comprehensive! It's such a shame that we do not have Art fairs in Israel (aside from one for the very top fine and emerging artists, that takes place once a year). But there were quite a few tips that i took from it anaway! Thank you 🙏
I'm glad you found it helpful, Keren! It's too bad that festivals aren't held for all artists!
thank you for all the info, will be participating in my first art fair this september in Milan, Italy
I'm excited for you, Linda! Wishing you tons of success!
Thank you so much for such great information! I will be participating in my first art festival at Brandywine Festival of the Arts in Delaware. It's a very well known festival, very large with tons of traffic. I am super excited but also nervous. I had tons of questions, and came to utube to get some insight on what I needed to do. Well, I found this video right away. It has answered every question that I had!
Wonderful! I'm so happy I was able to answer your questions. You're going to do great! Remember, you're there to have fun and share your passion with others!

Great info thank you SO much!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks, Joyce!
Spot on👍❣️
Thanks, Bonnie!
Great and helpful info. I do have a 10x10 tent…that I haven’t used…I bought it when I was doing more paper crafting but now I’ve moved on to fine art. But wow…so much to consider besides the tent. Those Pro Panels…that I don’t have, aren’t cheap. At any rate, it’s gonna be a while before I’m ready to show & sell my art at one of those big art festivals. When I’m ready, I’m going to look for the smaller shows and I plan to sell online too. Thanks much!
Glad it was helpful, Nancy! Sounds like you got a plan for the future!
Thank you so much for the info
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Very good list. I have been doing show for over 30 years and this is very thorough. We might have
Met somewhere since I am in SF. I am always looking for new ideas.. Eileen
Oh wow! That's a lot of shows over the years, Eileen! Thank you for your compliment! I'm glad that I covered a lot in the video. I know there's even more nitty gritty stuff to talk about, but I had to limit it otherwise I would have been talking for hours!
thank you for your tips
You're very welcome! Wishing you great success!
Excellent information
Wonderful! Thank you so much for watching, Sheila!

Thank you!
You are very generous in always sharing info🙏
Happy to share what I have learned. Thanks for your sweet message, Bonnie!
this video was SO helpful! thank you!
Does anyone have a cheaper starter solution for "walls" to hang on instead of propanels? I'm just starting out and I can't justify the cost yet
I'm so glad the information was helpful to you! There are grids you can use or build your own "propanels" using hallowed doors and cover them with carpet. Go to Pintrest to look for other options. Also, go to some art festivals in your area to see how booths are set up. Good luck to you!
wow thank you so much I am doing my first show and had questions that I couldn't get answers.
You are so welcome! Wishing you great success at your first show, Lorri!

Thanks so much for watching, Susan!
Wonderful and comprehensive presentation of an overwhelming subject for me. Do you have a recommendation for a tent?
Glad you liked the video, Jackie! Unfortunately, I don't have a recommendation for a tent. You can google "best tent for art festival". I think I had done something like that when I was looking for a new one.
Thank you for all the information. Question.... how do you hang your art in the tent? What type of walls are they?
Hi! I talk about that in the video. I also show you what I use as the hooks. Thanks so much!
Thurough explanation! This is great, Thank you Betty. Your skin is glowing, what's your secret?
Thanks, Jaz! Glad the information was helpful! As for my skin....not sure. I eat good food!
Hello! Thank for sharing! This was very helpful. My question is how do you package your artwork for between traveling to and from your shows? My artwork is not flat and I need to protect and the crystals I have on my pieces. Any suggestions?
Hi Christal! I usually use a bubble wrap bag to insert my artwork into for travel. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced with your type of artwork. Maybe if you go to a festival and look for someone with similar art, you can ask them how they are transporting. Wishing you all the best!
Thanks for sharing your programme. I like knowing more. Thank again and good luck. Minh,Ngoc Phan ( Artist from Danang City,Vietnam)
Thank you, Phan! I appreciate you watching from Vietnam!
Thank you Betty! This is super helpful information. Will you be part of SVOS this year? I'm in Mountain View on the 2nd weekend. 🙏🏼
Hi Barbara! I will not be participating in SVOS this year. Thanks so much for watching!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you a hundred times over! I'm just beginning to investigate how to start my art business. I thought fairs/festivals would be easier than selling online and dealing with shipping, etc. That may not be right. In your opinion, which would be an easier way to start? One word will do - no need to explain. Thank you!
Hi Mary Ann! If only I could give a one word answer! 😁 I think you should do both. In my pricing video released a few weeks ago, I talk about not putting all your eggs in one basket. When you're just getting started, selling online it hard because you're not known. You don't yet have a following. So, selling locally at art festivals is a great way to get your art in front of people to not only sell, but also to get their interest, feedback, etc. It's all valuable information. And, you can start gathering email addresses. There's my short answer!
Hi Betty! Thank you so much for sharing with all of us! I was wondering, do you bag your canvas art once it has been sold at the festivals and can you share what type of bag you use? I hope to take a class with you one day and look forward to watching more of your videos!
Hi Karron! I'd love to have you in one of my workshops! I keep bubble bags on hand: www.uline.com/BL_7602/Uline-Open-End-Bubble-Bags I buy the 36x36 and the 36x48". Unless the person is in a rush, I usually ask them to walk around a little more to give me some time to pack it up for them. I keep cardboard corners on hand, too.
@@BettyFranksArt Thank you! 😊
Hi, I'm an artist in San Diego, California. Happy to meet another fellow artist! I had a question, do you bag your sold framed art work? I sold a 12x16 framed art piece and was not prepared. My client was very understanding but I don't want to have this issue again. My current solution is to use your method and large bags...
Hello! Congratulations on the sale! I bring with me bubble bags and cardboard corners. I buy the 36x36 bags (and I use them to ship artwork, too): www.uline.com/BL_7602/Open-End-Bubble-Bags?pricode=WF476&Sitelink=US_Google_Bubble-Wrap_Group_135_Bubble-Bags_Open-End-Bubble-Bags&gclid=CjwKCAjwv-GUBhAzEiwASUMm4sD9FQqVK1JiT2rb4GsKbdAIpPi1x30kByqg8oY7h0pZOoJezkyqkxoCowwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
At 22:00 you mention "securing your tent" at the end of the day. For festivals that are two or three days, do participants leave the work inside the tents overnight? If so, what kind of "secur[ing]" can be done? Thanks! EDIT: Ahh...I see it's answered at 26:44. Thanks again!
Glad you found the answer. Thanks so much for watching!
Great video...do you have a video about creating art in a space or your space like a tour of your set up?
Great question! I don't have a specific video about my art studio, however, you can see my space in this video: ua-cam.com/video/tNojCzVdlmQ/v-deo.html
Thank You Betty for this very good video. I have done art festivals and your info is spot one and I learned some new things. I have one question. Where do you get you art on paper printed.? I am always looking for good printing. Thanks.
Hi Maureen! Glad to hear that my info was spot on! Thank you! My art on paper is all original art. The only prints I had at the shows were my notecards. With abstract art, there aren't any best sellers, so I didn't want to invest in making prints. However, I offer POD from my website and I use Bay Photo: www.bayphoto.com/ They're automatically connected to my backend. I use Art Storefronts for my website.
@@BettyFranksArt thanks for the link. I will check them out. Again your video is very helpful. I also forgot to say. I love your paintings and enjoy watching your videos. I also like following you on IG.
Betty, how are the propanels attached to the booth walls? I just got accepted to my first juried festival and I am so nervous!
Hi! Here's a video from propanels on how their walls work: www.propanels.com/videos/ Congratulations on your first juried art festival! Happy dance!! You got this!!
Thanks so much for a great informative video! Question: Do you like gloss or satin varnish for you board and canvass pieces? i have been using gloss but it may be a bit too glossy! Would love your thoughts on this, as i am a beginner. Thanks again!
I used to use satin almost always. Then I discovered matte. Love matte! There's no glare at all. It really allows the artwork to shine! Try them all and see what you like best and what's best for your style of art. There's no right or wrong. It's personal preference.
Thank you!
@@BettyFranksArt
Hi. Can you share how you trasport your art work. Do you wrap each piece, do you mark the outside, do you rewrap after the show, what do you put your pieces in once wrapped. I appreciate your time and value of experience.
Hi Michele! I don't have a photo of my artwork wrapped up (and I no longer do these art festivals). However, I did wrap them in bubble bags (check Uline.com for 36x36 bubble bags--very handy for transporting and shipping to customers) and stacked them up in my car for transport. When I sold a piece of art, I used the bubble bag to wrap the canvas. For smaller pieces of art, I had other bubble wrap. I also keep a tape gun on hand + cardboard corners. I hope that helps!
Any tips on tear down in the rain?
Well, that's no fun. Unfortunately, I don't have any tips from personal experience. If you're expecting to be caught in bad weather regularly, consider using plastic bins instead of cardboard boxes. Rain won't hurt your artwork if it's been varnished, so you should be okay there. Wishing you all the best!
