This video Series is absolutly awesome! I am a cheapskate but I would PAY good money for this on a DVD! I am an avid you-tuber and I have never made a comment before, but I couldn't let you get off without thanking you for this awesome info! I am buying a new dehydrator as soon as I am done with part 5. My old one is a junker and I haven't done anything but jerky before. I've been spending mega bucks on food storage stuff lately. The world is in a shambles and people need to stock up NOW!!!
Fantastic info! I was having trouble with my vacuumed dried food poking holes in each other. Everyone should be doing this. I'm a mom of 4 children and my husband was laid off in Jan. He is still unemployed but we are still feasting on last Summer's bounty of fruits and veggies! Money is tight but our table is full and there is always room for friends to stop buy and share a meal with us.
I think that this is a great idea. Buy food on sale then dehydrate for later use when food is very expensive. Thanks for all the great info! Just like everything else I'm sure practice makes perfect. Your dried food looks great.
I am a huge fan of your series! Please keep it up! Just because a bucket has a #2 on the bottom does *not* mean it's food safe. The only way to be sure is to contact the manufacturer or buy containers marked as food safe. Why? Simple, the #2 just means it's HDPE. Those numbers have nothing to do with the release agents used in the manufacture of the buckets. Some release agents are toxic.
What awesome videos, and so inspirational! I would like to thank you and your videographer, and your whole family for making them! Could you please tell us where you purchase your vaccum bags? Thanks!
I'm new to dehydrating, just learning how to do jerky right now. I've watched 4 of your videos so far, WOW what a wealth of information! I'm sure ill watch all your videos several times and start using some of this great knowledge in my life! THANK YOU for sharing this knowledge that I'm sure it took years to master and willt bring my learning curve to mere months!!
I'm so glad I found your videos. This is really helpful information -- this is all so new to me! I'm going to watch Parts 1-4 again and take some notes. My next purchase is going to be a Food Saver. I can certainly see the value of having one from your video and from another Food Saver video tutorial by Katzcradul. Thanks for sharing!
Clever idea with the bread crumbs all this time I been using a rolling pin and a freezer bag, all the while I had a brand new food processor that had other uses, but I'm a guy, an ole guy so these ideas of practicality don't often come to us lol great video ma'am and ty
Thank you so much for your series of videos, you put a lot of effort into them. I have had my dehydrator for years and mostly dried leafy greens, now i am encouraged to dry so much more. A few of the names you mentioned in an earlier video rang a bell in my memory. I grew up reading some of the La Rouche magazines. I have been big on freezing my produce but now I am going to dehydrate my produce instead, thank you so much for the videos
Hello very nice videos congratulations I am actually viewing this to learn out to dehydrate food, because i do backpacking for long periods of time in places that have nothing around so i need to take my food with me, dehidration is great because it conserves the food and best of all (for backpackers) makes them a lot lighter to carry
I have to say you have a very good system for food preservation and long time storage. Really learned a lot even though I am prior mlitary the civilian market doesn't have some supplies we used in the service. I love that vacuume machine wow it's a beast!!
I am really sick of how fast fruits and vegetables go bad so great videos on dehydrating! I probably wouldn't do it in the volume that you do it though. A lot of people, like myself, can't afford to buy that amount of supplies but on a much smaller scale it is an awesome practice, even just to save your fruits and vegetables from rotting prematurely!! THANKS!!
Thank you so much for doing these videos. They are excellent and we also agree with you view points about the future. We have a little land and have started gardening. We hope to add chickens and perhaps a larger animal in the future. We would also like your recommendations on what brand of equipment to purchase for these processes.
Monroe Madison Yes I did Monroe, they came out beautifully! In fact I went back for more. I can't wait for the summer. I have a farm close by that hasmany different items they grow. Ill be buying everything in bulk and drying them. Ive also contacted my sisters and am trying to get them each an Excalibur dehydrator. I really like your videos and your points of view.
home depot now has a lid that you snap on, but there's a lid in the lid with a rubber seal that you can twist or unscrew and get in and out of the bucket easliy, They cost about $9.00 for the lid alone, $3.00 for bucket all Food grade.
If the food is vacuum packed and in Mylar you can use any bucket as it will not come in contact with the food. Bucket serves to keep rodents or bugs from chewing through bags.
MsStanleycat the lock and lock storage containers on QVC.COM work great., bpa free, for freezing as well. I got 3 sets of 15?...all different sizes for $12? I store oats, speghitti, noodles, beans, rice, flour...etc...they are see through and sealed.
What temperature do you dehydrate breads on? About how long? Thanks so much for making these videos! You are my inspiration! I just today received my Excalibur machine and can't wait to try it!! Thanks!!
Hi Tammy, What brand is that vacuum packer, how much is it, and where can I find one? I'm ready to move up from my FoodSaver, and yours looks like a BEAST! (Just what I need!)
Loved this video..but I couldn't get part 5..it said it wasn't available...can you place it again? Where do u get the your supply stuff..bags, oxygen, jars?
i was wondering about the buckets that you use for the food, also i couldn't hear what you said you added to the buckts with the beans or barley, it wan't really clear what you said. thanks
It could be a result of contamination on the bag opening, such as liquids, powder or fat/grease from what you're putting into the bag. It could also be a result of a failing sealing wire on the vacuum sealer. If you use a Food Saver, for example, it would require replacement of the sealer. Some other sealers have replaceable parts. Be sure that the sealing surface is clean, dry and flat. If any of the three are lacking, the seal will be more prone to failure.
Hi, I am confused. On your site you said that you use the heat sync setting on your machine to seal your Mylar bag. Do you not do that anymore? If not how do you seal your mylar bags? Thanks so much for your time. Your video's are fantastic!
Hi I've just started doing dehydrating/sealing. Thanks for the tips with mylar etc. Just wondering if you've had problems with reinflating that were not due to holes in the seal or bag. Especially with fruit? Thanks.
The sealer in the video is one such sealer. Yes, it's substantially more expensive when comparing initial purchase price. Yet, when comparing the single purchase price against the purchase and re-purchase prices, it will not look so expensive.
Fantastic info, thank you. I'm curious. When you package in sealed and Mylar bags...do you not open until SHTF? Or do you open and reseal again hence the extra space in bags? Love your videos and have subscribed. Thanks
Hi, I do not know if you are still responding, but I can't seem to find info on the temps needed to store all this food either in bags or jars. What temp do you keep your rooms for storing? Thanks
please see my post above about the Weston Pro 2300 vacuum sealer. I have not even removed the protective plastic from the stainless steel. I am glad I didn't the thing does not work. I am hoping this is a defective unit and that they will replace it. peace :)
Hi Tammy, love your videos and info on dehydrating. Just purchased your book!! I just watched Part 4 and wanted to know the name of the mixer/chopper you used?
Purchased one of those stainless 2300's and the thing won't evacuate even a plastic bag. I thought it was the mylar bags at first. then I tried a small plastic vacuum bag and it doesn't evacuate the bag. It's almost not at all, then seals the bag full of air. peace :)
Great tutorial, but a very important piece of information has been ommited. please, please, what is the brand and model # of you $450. commercial Vacum Packer?
you can also store emergency tools, kits, surgical kits, camping kits, hygene supplies, medical supplies, survivalkits, etc. I REALLY LIKE THE MULTI LAYER BAG AND TOUGH MY LAR VAC SHELL. i CERTAINLY AGREE THAT SOME ARE TOO CLEVER AT SELLING OUT THE HUMAN RACE, IN END THEM SELVES. THANK!!!
I'm sure this is a really stupid question; but here goes: can you dehydrate canned foods? Please help me with this question. Thank you. One more dumb question: Do you dehydrate your bread for the bread crumbs too? Once again, thank you very much!!!
I just don't see why you need oxygen packs if you're using a Foodsaver that takes all the oxygen out anyway? It seems like overkill and if that tough bag got a hole then the oxygen pack wouldn't work anymore anyway.
+Susan Avery I just got a Food Saver. It's a piece of BOO-BOO!!! After a few days, the tight seal that was once around the food, that made it nice and tight and hard, is gone! The oxygen pack may help to prevent that, I don't know, I haven't tried but I can now see why she uses the oxygen pack. The machine doesn't always take all the air out. I've had to cut and re-seal some bags just because of that.
I've had mixed success. I don't use the Oxy-absorbs. Tried. May use again. The thing to do is to inspect, however often you need to, but do this. I've also recently (well, just finished a bowl) of pinto bean soup from beans that I purchased right after 9/11. I'd left them out. Not smart but I wanted to try. They were good, but as to the nutritional value? Don't know. Pressure cooked and yummie. I've found bags 2 years old that have lost seal for an indeterminate time. I reseal and move on. Pickiness when the SHTF? Later, 'Tater.
I watched all four videos and never saw you actually dehydrate anything. You went straight from talking about how to prepare foods to how to store the finished products. But you never showed how to use the dehydrator.
what on earth are you going to do with all this food?? do you have a family of twelve or something? how are you ever going to use all this? you have a whole wall of jars, plus mylar bags, plus tubs full of bags, plus a food saver. overkill? can you actually use all of this?

I love it, she is the Queen of kitchen Gadgets. This is more information than I can remember, so I take notes!

Heard your comment about hyperinflation. Watching this in 2020. I bet hyperinflation is really coming. Enjoyed your videos thanks.
I am a huge fan of your series! Please keep it up!

You got the coolest gadgets and tools!

You are one smart lady! I've been wanting to learn about all of this. Thank you! Subscribed!
I really should go to bed but I just cant stop watching your shows!
excellent video series. I have that dehydrator and I love it. Im going for some oranges tomorrow.
Monroe Madison Yes I did Monroe, they came out beautifully! In fact I went back for more. I can't wait for the summer. I have a farm close by that hasmany different items they grow. I really like your videos and your points of view.
how long will the fruit/veggies last in a jar with no oxygen pad or in a vacuum saver with no oxygen pad ?
I have watched all 4 of ur videos....plus I subscribed 2 ur channel....so so informative & so 2 the point....professional....thank you so much!!!
These videos have been very detailed & informative. Thank you for sharing.
It's amazing all the toys you have!
Vraiment super ! Merci beaucoup pour tout votre savoir faire. ❤️😘🌞
Your a very smart woman, also thanks for the video's.
Yes the bags can be cut smaller if need be. And for those fussing over the amount of bags used: they are reusable!
home depot now has a lid that you snap on, but there's a lid in the lid with a rubber seal that you can twist or unscrew and get in and out of the bucket easliy, They cost about $9.00 for the lid alone, $3.00 for bucket all Food grade.
Another question, you talked about sealing soups as gifts? I love that idea. In that case would you fully cook the grain and THEN dehydrate??
Thank you , i just got my first dehydrator ,can't wait to use it.
If the food is vacuum packed and in Mylar you can use any bucket as it will not come in contact with the food. Bucket serves to keep rodents or bugs from chewing through bags.

A brilliant woman to have around now that SHTF.
FYI you can get the buckets free at any bakery just ask $1 at Wal-Mart food grade with nice rubber seals
I have a new 9-tray Excalibur and I can't wait to get started. I need a vacuum sealer -- what kind do you use or recommend. Thanks.
Donna

Very informative video but I've heard on other You-Tube videos that the vacuum bags will always leak. Have you have any experience with this problem?
Hi,
I am confused. On your site you said that you use the heat sync setting on your machine to seal your Mylar bag. Do you not do that anymore? If not how do you seal your mylar bags? Thanks so much for your time. Your video's are fantastic!
@libertymtn Ziploc bags don't contain BPA so if you put your food directly in a ziploc bag there shouldn't be any bpa exposure to the outer bags IMO
What is the brand of the little air detector pill/eye & where can I find them? Thanks
Hi I've just started doing dehydrating/sealing. Thanks for the tips with mylar etc. Just wondering if you've had problems with reinflating that were not due to holes in the seal or bag. Especially with fruit?

Why do you not putthe filled buckets on concrete floors?

I have a question
Why to use both, oxygen absorbents and vacuum sealed
Hi Tammy, love your videos and info on dehydrating. Just purchased your book!! I just watched Part 4 and wanted to know the name of the mixer/chopper you used?
Hey, Karen. I'm not Tammy but any food processor will work just fine for this.
Wats the cup blender thingy? Do u have a link
Hello! Our apologies for the delayed response! Thank you for the message! We use a NutriBullet Pro. Here is a link, have fun!: amzn.to/3ASf880
What are the current "best" places to buy from? Thanks:)
What do you use the dehydrated oranges and lemons in?
What vacuum sealer do you have, please..
My oranges and lemons were dark. What do you think went wrong. Love your videos.
Newbie question: Why do you use such big vacuum bags? Is there a purpose to having so much extra bag?
So you use Mylar bags to keep out light, but also store in clear mason jars on shelves exposed to light? I'm confused......
Thank you!!!!!
Do you like making your own custom-sized bags? I use FOODSAVER rolls. They seem to hold, but I do a regular check on them.
any chance of those little oxygen packets leaking and contaminating the food after several years of storage do they come with some kind of guarantee?
@brawin01 From what I understand seeds need air. Have you found out more? Thanks
how does dehydrated food taste? i dont know if i had anything dehydrated before sorry for the question and how long does that food last?
Does anyone know what vac-seal machine she's using?
Hi. Where do you get the "oxygen packs"? Thanks...great videos
Good question!
Which modle do you use now for vacuum sealing? Thanks:)
Oh, my word. I know where I'm going when the world runs out of food. 16 oranges in 1 bag?
how do you make sure they will last??
you can go to efooddehydrator for oxygen absorbers.
Can you store your food in a zip loc bag and then store them in the mylar bad?
Where did you get your food saver? Mine is 34 years old and I want to replace it.
Do you do any meat dehydrating? I havent seen any meats so far or eggs or legumes???,,,??
Once dehydrated can you grind them up into spices?
What if there isn't one in my state? Thanks:)
Name of your dealer machine? Wats a good brand for me to buy?
Purchased one of those stainless 2300's and the thing won't evacuate even a plastic bag. I thought it was the mylar bags at first. then I tried a small plastic vacuum bag and it doesn't evacuate the bag. It's almost not at all, then seals the bag full of air.
peace :)
Why use the food saver bags? Why not go straight to the mylar bags
where do you purchase your mylar bags from ?
Marion Strader the best prices are on the internet, Amazon...
What brand is your vacuum sealer?
I had a FoodSaver and I could never get it to seal when I would seal something I would come back in an hour and it would be unseal
Very informative but these quantities are just nuts unless your feeding an army!
I think the ones in the jars are her "pantry" foods, she uses them daily, maybe? It certainly takes up WAY less space for that amount of food! :)
Most times you can ask your grocery store bakery for their empty icing buckets. My grocery gives them to me for free.
Great tutorial, but a very important piece of information has been ommited. please, please, what is the brand and model # of you $450. commercial Vacum Packer?

THANK!!!
Did you dehydrate the bread too?
Why can’t you store your buckets directly in the concrete floor?
@rblain4780 - you can go to oxygenabsorbers
for great prices on oxygen absorbers.
it won"t hurt anything if it dose. it is just iron oxide(rust) so it can"t hurt you.
Bonkers
Did you say teregum?
Tarragon. It's a spice.
I'm sure this is a really stupid question; but here goes: can you dehydrate canned foods? Please help me with this question. Thank you.
One more dumb question: Do you dehydrate your bread for the bread crumbs too? Once again, thank you very much!!!
I am a little concerned about the tremendous use of plastic bags. I understand why you are doing it, but it seems a little excessive.
Dayla1960

So I have some questions for you on information about dehydrate food. can you are you on facebook?
then what if the water runs out?
dehydrate water...... :D

Victoria Blank one word; Zombies!

This woman is SOOOO ready for the Apocalypse ...
I wish you were my sister.
