Malawi contributes almost 900 soldiers to the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo - and it’s not what you might usually associate with a UN mission.

Memes And Veggie Tales I see him everywhere lol
Really informative, well produced video. Keep up the good work guys!
This makes the effort made by the forces look real positive,.Please do more of such programmes as this one was well presented. Malawi is an extremely poor country but a proud one,It needs all the help it can get.
@Maxi Delevingne extremists muslims? LMAOOO more like fake muslims who are paid mercenaries, most often exploited when they were young to "get them out of poverty", hired by greedy politicians from the West (eherm cough cough) & corrupted local officials who aim to destablise the region to begin with.
Not our Job to be their white savior.

Great content, please more videos like this! 👍
We lived in the former capital of Malawi, Zomba in the late 1960’s to 70’s, my father was a British Army RSM and the Malawi Army RSM, a beautiful country still growing. We were only there at the invitation of the Malawi government and always considered ourselves as guests in their country.
You are mostly one of us, you're always welcome.
You must come back plz
Now all they need to do is train the rest of the UN forces not to sexually exploit the locals..
But that's the fun part...
@Britannic hayyomatt how do you know?
Britannic hayyomatt This why people don’t like the Brits
Or let armed soldiers into the very refugee camps they are meant to be protecting.

Top reporting, well done.
Very informative video. Thanks for loading.
Awesome content
As a retired Malawian soldier i like this video
Awesome vid!
Proud of our MDF soldiers.
This content should arguably be up for some kind of award winning independent documentary reporting ? That said, the very sad reality is that there are forces today actively trying to stop the UN mission and discredit such bilateral UK training missions in e.g., Malawi, in order for individual junta forces supported by said countering geo-political interests to exploit the situation & take control unilaterally for self-centered strategic purposes .
johnathan - no doubt there needs to be comprehensive cease-fires until more solid political resolutions to the disputes can be negotiated between all the motivated rogue factions and junta leaders. Hence, an even more vigorous Peace-keeping force and humanitarian effort internationally is arguably justified in the meanwhile sadly .
@Jonathan Williams more likely on an aggressive type defensive stance, yes probably an overly aggressive one sometimes tragically given the brutal hostility and offensive agression of various rogue militant factions vying for power share and control as a strategic purposeful agenda - all causing the vicious cycle of violence needing to stop.
In terms of the nature of the arguable 'dictator' in question, such hostile violence will create an unacceptable cycle no doubt, which as said needs to be broken with help of UN and regional peacekeeping forces to allow for more resolute longer term political processes to evolve and strengthen as credible. But it should be doable and viable, whereas it's not like the 'dictator' is anywhere as brutal as say the Assad regime, which itself has only managed to in it's attempt to bomb it's way to a absolutist solution. peace out
Full support for British troops.

As long as we are requested by the Government of Malawi.
Malawi is poor now, but at least they have their land. Soon enough, once the effects of uranium mining become more evident, even that will be gone.

Malawi is a good country !!! I spent 2 weeks there traveling Africa and the people there are just absolutely amazing, very humble and warming, why is this bad media coverage not getting the beautiful scenery in central malawi god i would love to return !!!
I understand the country has had tough times, but when i was there literally nothing in this video was portrayed when i was there, and we were out and about !
TEXAS RANGER. I sometimes ask myself about the media portrayal many times over. I was born and raised in Malawi it’s more than what the media wants you to see.
Good work

Awesome
amazing work being done by the Brits.
Incredible important work. Not glorious, but so valuable to a nation that has witnessed so many disasters, wars and serious abuse. Deepest respect and sympathy for the British men and women out there. Hope you'll return safe and sound and hopefully without a residual feeling of sadness. One day, you'll recognize how much you've meant to these people. It strengthens my belief that western soldiers should be our finest, not only by mental toughness but a kind and compassionate heart as well. Cheers to you all.

Anyone else realise that Lt. Colonel Freddie Grounds' badge on his button's says "Royal Australian"? It was a bit blurred, but it definitely said that.

@Jonathan Williams Well it's either that or let them keep poaching...
@Jonathan Williams didn't they ask for UN intervention?

Love Daewoo k2 rifles
Casspir armored cars?
@Douglas Burch at 6.09 there is also a Marauder second vehicle from the right just in front of the pick up as well as one just in front of the ambulance.
03:50 K2 Daewoo Rifle?
Malawi bought 2,000+ K2 and K2C rifles from South Korea in early 2010s. They show up several times in the video.
Daewoo is a great rifle. Surprised there aren't more militaries toting it, honestly.
Good to see the Caspir is evident ......

Rename your channel “acces” It’s much better imo!
Nice to see the Daewoo K2 assault rifle being put to good use by the Malawi Defense Force.
The robustness and reliability of a AK-47 and the flatter trajectory of a NATO 5.56 mm like a AR-15 makes for an excellent choice of rifle for such a unforgiving environment.

What makes them a democratic "Republic" ??? Or is it just a name ???
JUSTACHIPN in most cases a republic is a country that formed by splitting off from another country.
Republic is mostly not a kingdom. It should mean an elected head of state but it's obviously used by dictators too.
Ironically Democratic in a countries generally means it ISN'T democratic. I guess because dictators try to compensate.

5:55 wtf is a gender advisor
Another pointless attempt to try and turn the savages into westerners without any of the facilities or idealisms to keep it going once we leave
@@xclonejager6959 lol
A Gender Advisor is an individual with the skills to enhance the qualities and capabilities of the population, it isn't just pertinent to women, they are involved with Women, Men & Children and how to integrate them into society.
BRITISH PEACE SUPPORT TEAM AFRICA
So it has nothing to do with gender?
@@sonarbuge7958 teaching them about how we have like several gender instead of male and female? Lol?
Whish we could do more around the world like this but we just don't have the money to do it, we'll done to the men and women who do support things like this around the world.
Very young for major
So what im getting from this is if you live in Africa and are in extreme poverty and you require help you will get 10 to 15 soldiers to come help you every once in a while if it is convenient for the politicians and the reelections but if you are a rhino that is living in your natural habitat with plenty of food and water for life you will get 900 soldiers to conduct around the clock security and full medical and heath support just because you are "rare"
It is an argument that I have thought about quite a few times. I would instinctively say I would always value a human life over an animal. But from that animals would never get any help as you could always help humans instead. But then you would have much fewer species which I'm also not comfortable with.
I think it probably comes down to a small benefit to many people can out way a large benefit to a few. As an extinction deprives all future generations of the enrichment it brings that "many people" is vast.
@@davidhouseman4328 think about it humans are the number one contributor to global warming according to most human rights groups and studies, has anyone ever thought that the reason why humans are so potent to the planet is because we value a single white rhino over the lives of millions of humans and release thousands upon thousands of harmful chemicals into the earth (constant patrols with vehicles and air craft) just to protect a species that the earth we are fighting so hard for to protect has deemed unnecessary and possibly harmful to the climate of the planet.
@@nickluther263 The earth hasn't deemed the Rhino, for example, unnecessary? And the impact of species preservation is inconsequential to global warming.
@@davidhouseman4328 natural selection whether thru breeding and environmental problems or human over hunting causes a species to go extinct the fact that nature adapts and moves on without that species shows that earth and nature has decided that species is no longer necessary for the habitat to survive the fact that humans keep sticking our noses and millions of dollars worth garbage into said habitat killing thousands of plants and animals just to save one just so we can feel good about "helping the planet" while at the same time crying for help because there is thousands of humans living in "extreme poverty" shows just how backwards the priorities are in these cases.
@@nickluther263 The reason that natural selection has the "natural" is to distiguise it from human.
But if you want to include humans then conservation is part of natural selection too.
They only need 2 or 3 british soldiers captain price
"How to react and Withdraw Safely", well that about encapsulates the UN🤣
"Its extremely difficult to convince them we are there to protect them...to build up trust"...I refer you to above
They are teaching there Army how to get out of an ambush safely.
protecting the locals from madona
Probably something which doesn't concern us. Usually the case with the UK. Heads of states have no problem with sending in the troops. USA says jump and us British are like yes sirrrr where shall we stick our noses this time
Its a UN Obligation, as part of the UN we are supposed to send aid and support wherever and whenever is necessary.
Gavin Williamson defense secretary sacked over leak
Don't say indigenous soldiers but Malawi defense force soldiers 😮
What resources are we pillaging under the guise of humanitarianism!!!
None, if you want to be cynical this is the good one to distract from the bad ones.
Seems like what they’re doing is a more successful and well run version of what American troops are doing in Afghanistan.
I mean there is alot less mountains in marawi
Kelcko lol the mountains aren’t the problem.
National 1 Well it really depends on who’s side you’re looking at. The Americans would say that the Afghans are unmotivated, unorganized, and rely too much on American protection. The Afghans would say the Americans are disrespectful to them and don’t actually care about training them. It’s an extremely tricky subject and I’m just touching on the basics.
Great report but it’s Mal-ah-wee not Mal-ow-wee 😂.
I was actually at Blantyre College of Medicine where the British Soldier killed in Malawi was held. Sad story that
Those white MRAPS are South African Mambas and Casspirs. Old but reliable. South Africa made the first MRAPS in the world :)
The big problems are the foreign troops from out of the country. If no intervention everything can be back quite as I believe. Brothers blood will talk and will understand each others if there is no any intervention from out of the country
Then your pretty naive. Africans are the same as anyone else. And everyone fights wars.

its all about Coltan mining!! plain and simple.
Good work Malawi government. UK military remains the best
Aren't the South Africans currently fighting in the DRC?
Or they were, one of the battalions recently left.
Different Countries contribute to the un Mission including SA and Tanzania
"Heart of Darkness" country. Don't want to get overly political, but if the Congo can only be held together with incessant peace keeping missions, and it's being torn apart incessantly by internal wars between its different peoples, ... maybe the problem is its over-sized unitary state isn't viable, and it should be broken up into smaller nation states along clear ethnic lines. (btw @5.55 - what does the "Gender Advisor" do exactly?? =/ )
And this neatly sums up Africa's problems in one go. White Colonialism and the drawing up of maps to sort out Africa's problems.
