@michellefletcher8891 I remember when it came out loads of "people" and tory mps came out in objection to the film saying it glamourised heroin use! This film is full of people's trauma due to heroin use,how the feck is,dead babys, and all of thw horrific stuff that happens glamorising it? If anything it would be a huge turn off.

Trainspotting and Fight club have the same vibe of what's the fucking point of everything this is a masterful intro and dialogue. Its the Tyler Durden philosophy of not giving a shit about materialism and caring what other people think aka the complete opposite of the vanity-driven famous celebrity lifestyle. Obviously, this was before Fight Club but they basically deliver the same core themes. If this dialogue was narrated by Brad Pitt in Fight Club alot of Americans would be "This is fucking amazing". Even the choose life speech from both T1 and T2 could easily fit as dialogue in Fight Club. FUN FACT There is a copy of Trainspotting in the video shop scene in Fight Club as a reference to trainspotting, its really hard to miss though, u need to actually freeze frame the film as they didnt want an Ohh why is a copy of this film in Fight club? To me, even though a lot is different between the two films, the main subjects of both are questioning the values of society and status.

There is one major difference. In Trainspotting the solution is found in heroin but in Fight Club its found in violence politically motivated. In Trainspotting the characters only commit petty crimes but don't become full blown terrorists. Their rebellion is mostly nonviolent.

Neither Tyler Durden and The nameless protagonist nor Renton and his friends are doing well or even okay. You are right in that both movies comment on society, but just as much probably more so they criticise the respective "solutions" their protagonists choose. Neither random acts of terrorism against citizens nor drug abuse fixed any of these people's lives, lead to any good outcome or improved society at all. Also banks aren't "closed" at night the buildings they blew up in the final scene were full with innocent people who got murdered for the crime of going to work that evening.

Anybody else come to remind themselves of this speech after the ending of “Star Wars: Obi-Wan” on Xbox has the Ewan Macgregor impersonator doing a parody of this speech about the Star Wars universe? “Choose the Force. Choose the Dark Side. Choose a protocol droid……”

    I hadn't realized this:
Just as The Velvet Underground was the dark counterpoint to the counterculture of the 60s in the United States, Trainspotting does the same but with the Cool Britannia era of the 90s

I chose not to choose life, I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons...who needs reasons when you've got death sticks?

Choose Life. Anything that follows in his rant is empty, hollow and leads to death. Heroin too.
"I am the Way , the Truth and the Life" look up who said that. And choose Life.
