You crazy shrimp people. I resisted for a long time but last week I gave up. There were two lonely fired reds in my LFS in the tank where he usually puts the Endlers that I frequently sell him. I purchased them .... A male and a female fully bellied / berried. :))
I recently saw a video on another big channel and they were mistreating a Oscar and I made a comment about how the well being of the fish DOES MATTER, I was immediately attacked ... people said it's just a fish blah blah blah..... I find your compassion for cranky pants very cool! He's lucky to have you and I hope alot of people can follow you by example, because there are alot of "outdoor" UA-cam channels with Aquarium videos just outright abusing fish and setting terrible examples for kids and many others...I'm sorry about my rant but I really enjoy your channel and I feel you are a wonderful example of responsible fishkeeper!!
I have been biten buy the shrimp bug, those yellows are so colorful and in my needy zone lol. Thanks for sharing your tanks with me have a great evening.
This is so random, but your surgery scar is looking so good! In the beginning of the vid when you're talking about cleanup and everything you can just barely see your scar. Looks like its healing really nicely. Glad to see you getting around mostly okay and loving these back to back vids!!
Cool video. I love the Birthday tank. 😊 I’m hoping to come home with some great finds from AE ! I’m always so jealous watching others come home from shows with cool hauls 😊
Sorry I missed your Birthday! Hope it was grand! I had that algae a long time ago in my Angelfish tank. Grapefruit seed extract took care of it. Not sure if it effects snails, tho. But it worked great.
I have a wild betta that I won on a FB fish group given away...much to my shock! He is definitely more cautious than my Dumbo female (who is in a different tank) Took him forever to come to the front at feeding time. And as long as I move slowly and don't bang the top, I can watch him eat.
I’m jealous of all of your shrimp. I got some cherries after years of putting it off and now I’m hooked. I added to amanos to my neon/corydoras tank this past weekend
I am sorry that Captain Cranky Pants is not doing well. I hope the changes you are planning to make will help him maintain a good quality of life. He's such a character!
I think my guy is a exception to the rule. He is always out for me to see. He shows off for me. He also eats right out of my hand. I do feed mine fry a couple times a week. At first he wasn't eating, didn't matter what. I stuck a couple in there out of desperation, he was c going on 2 weeks of not eating.
Just a heads up on those shrimp, they are Taiwan Bee's and as such, they need softer and more acidic water than Tigers or Neo's. pH 5.8-6.7, gH 3-6, kH 0-1. I'm sure you already knew this though. Have fun with them!
I very much look forward to hearing how you deal with cyanobacteria. I just finished a series of erythromycin, and it seems to have done the job, but only time will tell.
Hi Rachael, Love the channel keep up the good work. What peramiters do shrimp need to be at. I tried cherry shrimp a while back but it didn't work out for whatever reason,I don't know. Was thinking about trying them again. I have a planted 55 gallon w guppies, endlers and was debating on putting some in that tank. What advice or suggestions do you have to help me? Thank you for your time . Chris Starnes
Excellent, keep up the great work and videos. I love watching them while I'm stuck in bed! I damaged my spine and have chronic pain, so I love your videos and I am down to one 😢nano tank now with shrimps. I used to work in the aquarium trade😜👍 It seems to be getting bigger here in Sweden 🇸🇪 now, so getting easier to get hold of nice shrimps. Take care and happy tanking 😀😁😍
Oh my gosh, I really hope you make a video on Cyanobacteria. It’s been giving me problems lately, and the general solutions for algae don’t seem to be super effective for it?
I just sat down to watch your video, after completely breaking down 3-55gallon heavily planted tanks do to that blue green alge slime stuff. 90% water changes, pond snails and Siamese algae eaters wouldn't phase that junk. Just like yours mine started in the corner of the substrate. I don't know what caused the problem. Hot or cold spots in the tanks, plant fertilizer tabs, trapped gasses or having 3"-4" substrate. I noticed it before I left town to go help my brother move, when I came back I thought I was going to have to call a hazmat crew in on this stuff. Went toe too toe with this stuff for over a week, before doing the breakdown. Threw way 1/3 of my plants, all new substrate, please make the video soon on how you combat that crap. If I ever get that again I'm going to call in a trackhoe, scoop out the eels and burry the tank. Time for a double shot of Jameson.
You’ve often said to avoid imported shrimp; but most sellers at best quarantine their imported shrimp for 60 days or sell the “F1s” of these imports as USA bred. At what point do you consider shrimp as USA bred and what is the background on your newly acquired shrimp?
I consider the offspring of the offspring (so f2) to be solidly American bred. The pintos were from a friend who bred them and got the parents from another friend who bred them. I know both breeders. The tangerines are from my line, which originated from a guy I know well also
Depends on the species, for some of the shrimp I use softening substrates (Tropica usually). My water is neutral, so I don't NEED to use RO, but if you have a lot of buffering capacity in your water, you would likely need to use RO.
Awesome video. I had never heard of the Lemon White Cloud Mountain Minnow before, I paused the video to google them and boy are they pretty. I look forward to watching them mature.
I kept them back in about 2008, but haven't had them since. I would love to work with them again at some point, but first need to get all the tanks organized and scaped so I am not just shuffling things around constantly. I would love that in the future though!
We will take a closer look at all the new critters after they are totally settled in. I am pretty stoked though!

The Fishy Life ! That pisses me off when people do that. Who are they to judge what
animals are okay to abuse and which ones aren’t?
We do our best to provide the best conditions and treatment that we can. Of course it matters. It matters to them.
OMG that's atrocious. The abuse of any creature should be banned from all websites.
You, DIY n LRB are the most watched in my subscribed list. Glad you're all staying true to the hobby through the ups N downs. Unlike the fakes.
You have beautiful beautiful fish!! I have never seen so many different colors with shrimp just beautiful!
Woohoo everybody looks so great...can't wait for more! (will cross my fingers for Captain)
Beautiful! Once again the ads came through with the Red Lobster promo yelling "Shrimp! Shrimp! Shrimp!". 🤣
That is hilarious. Wish I could take credit for it
@@RachelOLeary I definitely think you should. The good news is that your shrimp are prettier and don't need cocktail sauce to be appreciated. 😉
Glad to hear you had a great time it's always more fun to get stock from people you know isn't it your tanks always look great thanks for posting them

Everything looks Awesome as usual. Thanks Rachel.
I LOVE your NEW shrimps!
Can't wait for you to start shipping
I recently got white clouds and gertrude rainbows for my community tanks! They are gorgeous and I'm enjoying them already even in QT
Love your ramshorn snails 😍😍😍 wished i could have some 😁

Cool video. I love the Birthday tank. 😊

Ooh! Can't wait to see the wild bettas!!
Omg I have wild betta's I have one, it's a wild green spot. That is some good news about him.
You should try the Chemi clean product it takes care of the bacteria you have very well I use it in my tanks and it works wonders
Wild bettas and new shrimp, what a great vid for a Monday afternoon slump.

Yep. Been working with bees since 2005 :)
Awesome!!
Shrimp? Wild bettas? Count me interested!
Those endlers are truly stunning. Do you know if there are any recordings of your presentation on the weekend? Would love to see it.
Nothing was formally recorded
Happy belated birthday!!!!
Cool shrimp!
I would like to hear your tips on handling the cyanobacteria. I am battling it myself in one of my tanks.
I think I recognize those shrimp! I hope they do well for you.
Thanks becca!!
I've got cyano all through my shelly tank too.
c'mon captain, ur an oscar, be stuborn and say its not time yet...
I very much look forward to hearing how you deal with cyanobacteria. I just finished a series of erythromycin, and it seems to have done the job, but only time will tell.
I enjoy watching the shrimp, but notice you have different kinds separate tanks, is this only for breeding or can theybe mixed?
I would plant a thick patch of guppy grass over that blue green algae in your tang tank. ☺ after I vacuum up all I can first.
Damn I haven't had any luck with shrimp need to learn some more to get your kind of results
Those blue shrimp look amazing!
Hi Rachel I love the shrimps I keep seeing your shrimp tanks it’s making me to do a shrimp tank too. What size tank you recommend for shrimps.
10g or larger is my preference as a general rule
Rachel O'leary thank you what you recommend what kind of shrimp I should start with I never kept shrimp

What do you feed the fish when you go on vacation
I dont generally
Beautiful cant wait to see the shy ones
Oh my gosh, I really hope you make a video on Cyanobacteria. It’s been giving me problems lately, and the general solutions for algae don’t seem to be super effective for it?
Out of curiosity, do you know if you will have any C. habrosus available when you start selling fish again?
Is the hang on the back filter any good I have been looking in to getting a new one

Was one of the endlers mid way through giving birth? Sure I saw a little baby hanging out.
Them are some cool shrimp rachel 😚😚😚
Can you do a small fish room tour. Plz. Thx

Can you do a video focused on your weightloss? What your lifestyle was like before and what it is now?
