Turns out I was able to run the unit through the Stock amp and get it working on the first try. Luck I'm sure. Then added an "all in one" 8'' SpeakerAmp/box " under the driver seat independently powered to Batt. and was able to connect an aftermarket. rear camera to the head unit. So now my old truck sings new.
I recently purchased a nice used 99 Dodge Dakota that had a low quality am fm cd player that didnt work well. I purchased a factory replacement online and this video was Very helpful in assisting me in removal and replacing the old unit with the factory unit i purchased online! Thanks very much Great Help!! I have dismantled the dash one a prior occasion in order to change the shift module for the transfer case. This time, though, I needed info on removing and replacing the radio as my radio does not work - which is another story. Now, I see that there may be two different styles of plus on the radios - so, I guess I need to see what style of connector I need in the replacement radio that I procure. Thanx for posting!
Thanks, I will! Im also buying my friend's V8 auto 2 gen Dak. It will replace the 3.9L at some point as the rust is getting pretty bad. Might save the 5 speed and to put it in the V8 Dak!
Thanks, I have A 2001 Dodge Dakota and the stereo it came with has a Cassette player on it LOL but I’m looking for a way Better upgrade for my little sister. Thanks for showing me how to do this
I am from the UK and was wondering why the radio names don't show up on old American vehicles and just the frequency numbers find it a bit strange also I was wondering can you keep the frequency number on without the time showing.
Nice Radio Install! Was happy to see your Dodge Dakota had an On/Off Switch on the Air Bags like my 2004 Dakota. Glad you were able to leave it "plugged In" yet still pull your Dash out a bit. Wondered if you removed the Negative Clamp on your Truck Battery before you began?
the stereo works fine on accessories or when ignition is on, but will you start engine the radio starts losing its signal, what could be causing this ?
I'm having a problem with a new radio that my uncle installed into his old truck that keeps pulling power and making the battery die I pulled the radio out and put a different battery in and the truck started right up I want to keep the radio in there what do I need to do to fix it
Where did you get your pig tail wiring harness? I bought a aftermarket stereo from crutchfield and they cant seem to send me the right harness for the factory connectors I've tried twice and both times I recieved the wrong harness
I have a 2001 Dakota and the power gets cut off at times. If I tilt the steering wheel or move the key at times it comes on . Anyone else have that problem?
Has anyone that has this same year truck had a problem with one speaker only working sometimes ?? My front passenger speaker works only every once in a while.. not sure if it's a loose connection or maybe a problem from the factory stereo... I'm getting ready to install a new stereo in it so I'm hoping that fixes it..
I special ordered this truck brand new in 2001. Tilt wheel was part of the A/C package at the time and since I didn't order it I didn't get tilt wheel.
I have tilt steering and still was unable to get the front of dash fully removed, as it sticks behind the steering wheel. This is the worst design I have ever seen but I was able to access the back of radio, only to find out they use an odd antenna connector, so was unable to install the FM modulator for my SiriusXM radio. I will be waiting to replace the entire unit soon and fix it then using an antenna adaper... if I can pull the dash once more without breaking it in two XD.
My 2004 dakota has tilt steering. To get the bezel off, I had to put the key in and move the gear shift which is on the tree to the 1 position. When I did this and lowered the steering column as much as possible, I could remove the bezel.
18 year old alpine is worth 25 bucks if that so lots of time and effort with no monetary gain vs the original and you never got a metra cover so the alpine fits flush without all those gaps which looks poor
I'm always leary of doing these projects for fear of breaking some expensive dashboard piece, but this was too easy. Thanks for sharing.
Working on my 2002 dodge Datoka quad today and this was great, thanks. I thought I would have to remove the factory amp. this saved a step.

I have my radio not working in my Dokota sport truck

5 speed Dakota! I love mine, a first gen 3.9L V6 5 speed 4x4!
Simplex SM I had a first gen 3.9 auto 2wd before this...it was kind of underpowered but otherwise a good truck....enjoy!
Thanks, I will! Im also buying my friend's V8 auto 2 gen Dak. It will replace the 3.9L at some point as the rust is getting pretty bad. Might save the 5 speed and to put it in the V8 Dak!
Ha my 03 5 speed 4.7 v8 4x4 smoked my 99 v6 4x4 all day long. Once you go v8 dakota you won't want to keep the v6.
@@SimplexSMdid you end up swapping the tranny?

We didn't have the RDS system until the mid 2000's. Some radios can display just the time or just the frequency...depends on the radio.
I have a 03 and I’m looking for the size of radio to buy the new one
Good video brother, it helped me a lot to be able to disassemble the stereo of my truck, thank you very much 🥺

I've got A2002 Dakota with that same head unit but it does not have lights in the basin trouble sliders which I think is cool...
Thanks! I was looking for screws that didn't exist... 🙂
We have a 2000 Dodge Durango the radio comes on but we don't can't get no sound through yet what would be the problem
Did you get it fixed?
the stereo works fine on accessories or when ignition is on, but will you start engine the radio starts losing its signal, what could be causing this ?
Hard to say but I'd check the antenna connection. Then look at main vehicle ground connections

My uncle just passed away a few days ago.
Great viedo..very helpful, but I have a question..my radio goes on and off...when that happens my turn siginals don't work..
You probably have a bad body control computer. My headlights used to flash on and off when the wipers were on.
When looking for a new radio is it a full double din or is it a din and a half?
I have the same question
Dope
Thank u for vedio it help me
What size is the radio
How do you set the clock?
The factory radio has 2 let's say dimples to the right of the radio, one of the hour and one for the minute.
What was the black wire mounted too on the alpine deck
What aftermarket radio is that? I need to get a new one for my subwoofer
It's a really old Alpine...like 20+years old
@@SevenFortyOne do they still make it?
I seriously doubt it
@@SevenFortyOne damn
Very good!

For my 2002 dodge Dakota
It was so long ago I don't recall...might have been crutchfield...if not them then maybe Amazon. I put that radio in back in 2005.

I would do new speaker
I thought i was the only one that had that problem with the clear coat peeling off... Is that a recall i wonder ??
My 2002 SLT quad cab clear coat is doing poorly
Why the hell doesn't it have steering wheel tilt? That's weird.

Ok my CD player only has a place for one of those hookups??
I bought online the harness it comes with 2 connecters and I wire it to the harness from the cd player
Haha I have that same paint job
yep, same here as well. clear coat not in good shape.
You definitely have tilt
