You should buy an alarm for the freezer. They are cheap and alert you if the temperature changes or the power goes out. 1/2 cow is an investment

Thank you for mentioning that, we had our deep chest freezer go out one time and probably 20-30 pounds of meat went bad. Don’t want that to happen again.

We have one that alerts our phone. It’s saved us a handful of times.
We also installed a baby lock. Just in case something shifts and the door doesn’t seal correct.

Facts, I lost 60 1 pound sausage packs, and 40 pounds of ground beef, because my brother unplug one of my freezers!
I looked at those freezer alarms, a month and a half ago, but did not get them then! But now I do have them, they work well, mine are set to a max of 32 degrees, you can hear them from anywhere in the house!

100% yes, my brother and his wife spent an entire weekend butchering hogs and got all the meat into the freezer only to find that the seal was broken 2 days later that it had all gone bad. Now everything is alarmed and alerts their phone if the temperature changes

A piece of advice: correct overstock mistakes right away. Donate those beans! Get them to someone who will use them and you’ll have more space to store what you actually need. Same thing for the olive oil and nuts. I know it’s a chunk of money but better to do it now so they don’t just end up spoiled.

You could always open those refried beans and bag them up into smaller portions and freeze them. I keep all my nuts in the freezer to keep them from getting rancid. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

I’m in San Antonio, Tx and we eat a lot of breakfast tacos particularly potato egg and refried bean and cheese in a flour tortilla with salsa. They’re great for breakfast or dinner. Refried bean and taco meat chalupas are great too. They go over well at parties are are cheap to make. Just messy to eat.

Growing up on an almond orchard, we had large amounts of nuts too. My mom always kept them in zip locks in the freezer and they stayed good forever. In fact when my parents moved to assisted living 2 years ago, they had a bunch of frozen pecans and walnuts in the freezer. Lord know how old they were, but they still tasted great!

Idea for some of your beans: I use it to thicken soups (like chili, black bean soup, chicken tortilla, etc). The family never knows but it adds good protein and makes it more filling!

Well, you could add fresh herbs to the olive oil and freeze them. If you store them in ice trays you can pop them out as needed. Or freeze and put into freezer bags to keep fresh. This way you dont have to worry so much about wasting the oil. Its the opening and not storing in a cool, dark and dry place that place that causes it to go rancid quicker.

This was an amazing video. You've done really well stocking it Tabitha. You could always donate the refried beans and oil. You can also freeze some of your nuts if you don't use them quick enough. You've done an amZing job. Also, having so much soups and chef boyardee stuff you don't have to use water. That's easy for kids also. Thank you for sharing this. I loved it. I want to start one soon.

    Highly recommend the Berkey!!!!
We have one and we love it. It’s easy to clean, the filters last a long time. The water tastes SO GOOD out of it too! Better then bottled water or from the fridge filter. We use significantly less bottled water now. I use Berkey water for everything. My 7yo keeps it full for us but adding pitchers of water to it - showing how easy it is to keep full and fill up.

Loved the pantry tour, great organization. The only thing I would suggest is to not have paper products or cardboard items directly on the floor in case of a random flooding situation of ANY kind.
When I was a kid our backyard sloped down on one side and we had a walk out basement. My dad put cement steps from the patio down to the basement door but the drainage was not sufficient and our basement flooded 3 inches of water.
A few years ago (as an adult) I had a pipe leak behind a wall in the basement and a large area of ceiling, wall and floor (carpet) got very wet. I have also heard of hot water heaters leaking. Just some cautious thoughts.

We are looking at building our food storage!!! We are looking at having a full pantry in our next house. In our last house we had a big pantry and loved it!!! We had extra space in it. I love the idea of being able to keep stuff in the bags they come in!!! We don’t use olive oil daily as I’ve made a mistake when cooking high heat with olive oil. We go thru sauces so stocking up on that could be a good idea. Make a label for your food storage!!! Nuts don’t last long, I learnt that as well. We go thru eggs.

I was excited to see this video up as I've been looking forward to it. We buy bulk from Sam's and Costco as a family of 9 but don't really have room to store a lot of extra. I would like to start stocking up for emergencies so this was good to see. I would have liked to hear some about how you keep track of what needs to get eaten up as you bring more on. It's a lot to manage. Side note - Whenever my husband's mom was sick when he was growing up, his dad made spam for dinner.

Plus it takes out bacteria and viruses and pharmaceuticals and so much more. The water also tastes really great my 1-year-old loves it

This is great! Way to go 👏👏 Having a food stock is important but I'm definitely finding it hard to manage. I'm learning as I go because we don't want to throw out food that expires. I think you can open those beans and put them in Ziploc bags to freeze. So you have smaller portions when you want to eat some. Good luck with the beef liver. We tried it and had to give the rest to my FIL. He loved it! We couldn't choke it down 🙈

I have canned about 700 or more jars since August. Favorites have been spiced peaches, roast beef, beef stew. Canning a lot of our half beef is one way I'm guarding against power outage.
Staples we keep on hand : thick cut oats, dried cranberries, brown sugar, flour , gf grains for me to make flour, pb, oil, pasta, pasta sauce (from our garden), tomato paste, beans , tuna, salmon. Lots more than that too. Powdered whole milk.

Absolutely love your content sis! We’ve done some of the same things as it relates to stockpiling cans of beans and things that no one else eats 😂 I will say that you could open the can and dehydrate them. You can them repurpose them and make a bean powder mix to add it to rice or make veggie burgers… $1 for 7 lbs was a steal and that was great thinking to purchase it. Sometimes you just have to think outside of the box. If you Mylar bag it with oxygen absorbers then you have a longer shelf life as well.

Highly recommend the Berkey. We got the biggest size during pandemic for our family of 6, because we used to go fill 5 gallon jugs at the water store and it got tricky. We did the math and it will pay for itself in a year, and I now have one less errand every week. The whole family says the water is better than what we used to buy too. Highly recommend!

  • @Ezrait
    @Ezrait 2 роки тому

We are a family of 6. I was going through cases of bottled water. I invested in a Berky and bought the kids reusable water bottles, and I won’t go back. Sure we keep a few cases when we go on trips just to have on hand. But I feel good about the empty plastic bottles not going back into the environment. So it’s definitely a win win. Win for my pocket book and win for the environment. I enjoyed your tour of storage food. I think this day and age it’s good to have extra on hand especially when you have a bigger family.

But I do have 4 grandkids 3 daughters. 2 grandkids come in the morning before school. I agree with the oil and the retried beans lol. But you could donate them to a food bank or soup kitchen. I now put expiration dates on top of the cans any packaging where I can see it up front. Even a package of cold meat in the fridge I put the date right up front even on the eggs. I like the 6 bean mix open tin rinse add to chilli conquer or anything your adding beans. Better then just one kind.

Right now we are a family of four soon to be five. I would get the big one for your family and or put different kids on burkey duty. We just keep a gallon jug behind ours. If you get a smaller one the. You will just have to fill it more often which really isn’t that big a deal. I would also buy extra filters. We are using the four black and the four white filters. We also have some extra filters.

I tested it and 12 months later, the salmon honestly was perfect, not an ounce of freezer burn, and nobody who ate it had a clue how long I had it in the freezer. It is worth the price of the bags.

Great job organizing your food! We received a large can of refried beans awhile back. We made a Refried Bean Soup that was delicious. You can make it without adding meat or I added some shredded chicken. If you want to use some of those refried beans in a soup you can freeze the remainder in individual serving size. Just an idea 😉

The refried beans--Tex-Mex casseroles! Thicken soup. Add to meatloaf/patties.
SPAM--slice, fry. Great with eggs. Or mashed potatoes.
Fried, cubed, add to fried rice, fry pineapple chunks in same pan to deglaze. P.F. Changs sweet&sour Mango sauce. It's a Hawaiian vacation w/o the airport aggravation.

Just a piece of advice that I just learned myself. When you open those big cans of refried beans put what you don't use right away into meal size freezer bags and freeze them. That way it doesn't go bad and you have several different meals with them. Also I bulk up my ground beef with refried beans and other shredded up vegetables, it adds nutrients to the meal and no one except you know it's in there. It makes the meal more filling and way more nutritious.

Put the nuts in smaller freezer bags and freeze them if you can. They will stay good for a lot longer. Your storage is amazing Tabitha. You are very prepared and able to take care of your family for a long time, if you had to rely on this only. Some of the things like the oil and refried beans, consider donating to a soup kitchen or food bank before the expiration date.

Next time you go to a party you should make a 7 layer bean dip. You can make a big one in a casserole dish. Then you can start using some of those refried beans 😆

Also the proone water filters, if your saving it just for prepper water. The filter doesn’t have to stay submerged in water. You can dry the filter and use at a different time!

I've never shown our full supply either.. yet.🤣🙈 I feel like our supply matches yours! Literally, even most of the exact products.🤭 I'm working on transitioning to more home canned foods as well. Like you, we have shelving for our appliances, two additional freezers and also four shelves of food. Our shelves are near identical to yours but we bought the black plated steel.🤣 You've done a tremendous job! Clean, accessible, wonderfully stocked beautiful food storage!🎉 Great job!!!🤗

Hi just recently started watching your channel. I love it!♥️👏👍🏼 A tip for you, freezing your nuts adds a huge shelf life. I've frozen some nuts for at least 3 years or longer. I bake a lot so not sure how long they will last because I use them up by 3 years. Make sure you wrap them well in plastic wrap and then put them in freezer bags. They taste as fresh as when you first purchased them. Hope this is helpful.😊♥️

You can put the big time in portion sizes and freeze them, you can also freeze nuts ie walnuts, almonds any unprocessed nuts, and they taste just the same as they did. 💞

Berkey's are nice to have but when thinking long term you have to have plenty of replacement filters. I suggest a rainwater catcher outside. We have one. It's amazing. And it doesn't hurt to have life straws and water purification tablets on hand in case a SHTF scenario and you have to bug out.
