Sorry that kickflip backlip is a staple trick for a contest level skater in a line, but nobody is throwing them down the big shit in their best trick attempts anymore, its not creative and EVERYONE can do them. Honestly in my opinion the purest form of skateboarding competition is playing "S.K.A.T.E."... Trick for trick, flat ground (or even mini or full park). Judging runs is subjective and ultimately an opinion. You might like one run, I might like another, and just because a skater screws one little thing up during a run his/her whole run is garbage?.. C'mon... Playing SKATE is a pure contest no opinion. They should have an international SKATE battle at the olympics.
Half of the Olympic sports are subjective, and non-skaters wont want to watch a game of skate. Plus, Berrics pretty much already has that locked down. This is about expanding skateboarding to a broader audience, not having another thing for skaters to watch.

A lot of countries have their own rules for who can skate for their country in the qualifiers -- but that brings corruption. "Here's $10,000, can I be on the National Team?" So having a fair and corruption-free system to at least get into the Olympics is the only way.
I grew up watching 411! Loved the whole “video skate magazine” idea. VHS baby! A lot of pausing and frame by frame to learn how the tricks where done. Basically how I learned to skate.

Dlamini Dlamini, Khule Ngubane, Yann Horowitz, Alan Marola, Thalente Biyala (remember the kid who the Berrics did a bunch of videos with?) Moses Adams, Allan Adams, Byron Rhoda, Tyler Kammies, Kanya Spani... the list goes on. Most of these are very good skaters, and a bunch of them could hang easily with pros from anywhere in the world. And with coutries like Ethiopia, Morocco, and South Africa getting more and more skateparks everyday, it's very possible that we could see an explosion of talent like we've seen from Brasil and other countries, where skateboarding is something fun to do and is often seen as a way out of poverty for those who can skate well.

It's inevitable the rest of the world will eventually realise what an incredible "sport" it is. It's more popular now than it ever has been. I've skated for forty years and it feels like it's about to go seriously mainstream, I saw a kid riding a skateboard in a bank commercial the other day. The olympics reflect this in almost a symbolic way, not to mention the real world exposure.
They plan it... Sometimes it's to the last second. If a trick is missed halfway through a run, the time to get back on the board could cost you time to do the last big trick.
The mainstream cultural acceptance happened in tandem with the great skatepark explosion and the herding of skateboarders into parks, and that was in the 2000s. Now you have kids who grew up in the skatepark their whole life. Commercials have been featuring the whole "skateboarding is cool" vibe for a while now, but that doesn't really matter as the big damage has long been delivered, which was taking all the street rats and herding them into little caged parks.

Honestly I have seen the entire line up of the us team. It’s stacked with contest killers and trophy hounds. The first underdog team that comes up will probably dethrone the US team because nobody’s looking at them as contenders. History shows us that underdogs that come from behind to do well to make waves and to gain the attention of those that were once their opponents.The Jamaican bobsled team, the 1980 Olympics hockey team, Michael Edwards, and many others. You have to want it more than the next person in the room. I don’t think any of them are hungry enough for a win. To many show boats and bloated egos.

Dlamini Dlamini, Khule Ngubane, Yann Horowitz, Alan Marola, Thalente Biyala (remember the kid who the Berrics did a bunch of videos with?) Moses Adams, Allan Adams, Byron Rhoda, Tyler Kammies, Kanya Spani... the list goes on. Most of these are very good skaters, and a bunch of them could hang easily with pros from anywhere in the world. And with coutries like Ethiopia, Morocco, and South Africa getting more and more skateparks everyday, it's very possible that we could see an explosion of talent like we've seen from Brasil and other countries, where skateboarding is something fun to do and is often seen as a way out of poverty for those who can skate well.
Just for the record Josh and Steve Douglas did not come up with the idea for 411Video Magazine. Tim Leighton Boyce TLB from RAD magazine UK told Steve Douglas that a video magazine is what skateboarding needed at that time..That is where 411VM originated from,

It's inevitable the rest of the world will eventually realise what an incredible "sport" it is. It's more popular now than it ever has been. I've skated for forty years and it feels like it's about to go seriously mainstream, I saw a kid riding a skateboard in a bank commercial the other day. The olympics reflect this in almost a symbolic way, not to mention the real world exposure.

How much do skaters plan in advance what they're going to do in their run? Do they have a routine or program?
They plan it... Sometimes it's to the last second. If a trick is missed halfway through a run, the time to get back on the board could cost you time to do the last big trick.

By far the best thing about this is skating will become more socially accepted. Less people will see us as pests.
The mainstream cultural acceptance happened in tandem with the great skatepark explosion and the herding of skateboarders into parks, and that was in the 2000s. Now you have kids who grew up in the skatepark their whole life.
Commercials have been featuring the whole "skateboarding is cool" vibe for a while now, but that doesn't really matter as the big damage has long been delivered, which was taking all the street rats and herding them into little caged parks.
@@giantsfan7733 I'm talking worldwide, I'm in Bulgaria for example, naturally the rest of the world is behind, you came up with it. I don't know about people being herded, silly divisions etc. The only division I remember was between rap skaters and metal skaters like 15 years ago, nowadays we're all together as we should be.
It's about what skateboarding is, not what it isn't. Olympics doesn't remove anything.
big skate contests are boring as hell. lil jams on the other hand are entertaining. I mean thrasher puts together an edit of the halloween jams etc. every year, imagine a thrasher edit of street league... thats just contradictory.

Honestly I have seen the entire line up of the us team. It’s stacked with contest killers and trophy hounds. The first underdog team that comes up will probably dethrone the US team because nobody’s looking at them as contenders. History shows us that underdogs that come from behind to do well to make waves and to gain the attention of those that were once their opponents.The Jamaican bobsled team, the 1980 Olympics hockey team, Michael Edwards, and many others. You have to want it more than the next person in the room. I don’t think any of them are hungry enough for a win. To many show boats and bloated egos.
