Thank you for your video and your time. You are clearly the best as far as Leica is concerned. This video is perfect, everything is explained in a concise and nice way. I sold my Q2M three months ago and regretted it. I bought another one this week and I'm happy again 😊
Kompetente Gegenüberstellung der beiden Systeme, die Entscheidung ist trotzdem nicht einfach. Ihr Englisch ist perfekt und ich kann Ihren Ausführungen folgen. Herzliche Dank! Viele Grüße aus dem Fichtelgebirge Thomas Geipel
This is the type of comment from someone who doesn't have enough money to buy a leica... he looks for excuses so that his grief is lighter in his life...
Very nice and detailed review as always. I shoot Leica M cameras since the came out with the M8. Now I own the M10M and love it. Yet I wanted to try the Q3M so I went to Leica store in Munich and got the Q2 for as long as I wanted( Thanks). It took me 10 minutes to understand the Q was'nt for me. I did not like the electronic VF ( not as clear and quite as the M10 VF). I have big hands and the Q is too small for me unlike the M10. The Q felt like a point and shoot camera to me, just like my cel phone. I missed the M10 sound. I never shoot continuous so the M10 battery last all day long and I love the old fasion battery cover. I am used to manual focus . Finally I use the M10M for quite a while now and the results are breath taking. The Q2 is a fantastic camera but not for me.
The Leica Q is such an all around automated camera, that i would stay with the Q brand and get the monochrome Q2..i was considering the M10 after shooting with the M240 as a possible upgrade. But since i was shooting since the 70s with film, black and white basic photography is my foundation, and i would love to jump back into a solid black and white format with a leica camera and the Q2 would be my option. The 28mm prime lens works for me as an all around shooting lens. This was a great video distinguishing between the two models and as aways your videos are simplistic and great detailed information.
Hi, thanks for your great video. Really appreciated. BTW, I have a question about the Q2M sensor. Why Leica Q2M uses a 50.4 MP sensor but comes with only 47.3 MP resolution. However, Leica M10M uses a 40MP sensor but comes with the same 40MP resolution. What happened to the design?
The Q2, having a fixed lens, does in body lens corrections, to fix the barrel distortion the lens has. This is why photos look more like 24mm focal length, cropped to 28mm, because that is what actually happens. The lens, while fantastic, is not as perfect as the “normal” 28mm summilux, hence the “low” pricepoint for the whole camera…😅
Hi thanks as always for excellent review. I am confused between m10 monochrome and m10R after B&W conversion. Major part of my photography will be black and white but don’t want to miss once and while color photo. Why someone will choose m10 monochrome over m10R practically? I know m10 monochrome is ISO master but is it enough to go for m10 monochrome?
What I REALLY miss on the M10 M is macro of Q2 M . For the rest I still prefer M10 but only because I am used to the simplicity M cameras . A good comparison anyway.
There should be a “246 Lovers” Fan Club, where their ‘monochrom moments’ are saved and discussed on a YT channel. I have my own growing collection of vintage 246s and collector’s editions paired with epic and vintage M-lenses that express that certain ‘246 look’! If nobody beats me to it, maybe I’d even undertake or work with someone on a channel perhaps paired with accurate Leica history chat - not bashing on any of you young guys who do such well-coifed and very informed productions, but they are often more-than-slightly factually challenged, rushed to review new products - which I totally understand, and use myself to stay informed..
Thanks for this. Another thing I think might make a (small) difference: M10 Mono does not allow UHS-II cards where the Q2 does. I tried putting an UHS-II card on the M10 and took a couple of photos but they never made it to the card. (this was a test at the Leica store, I do not own an M10 Mono)
Hi Matt, indeed strange the rigid iso intervals on the Q2.....because in the auto iso mode and the A position you will see the smaller intervals like in the Leica M.
I’m a big fan generally Mr Mathphotographer... however I disagree that the M rangefinders are naturally incompatible with video. I’m more or less OK not having video on the M-10M at its ‘essence’...but I believe the monochrom video on the M246 is epic (and also color on the MP..). The vintage ‘grittiness’ if desired - and less than studio sound (compared to the SL2’s hybrid purpose) is fine, and often desirable, and with the multifunction grip ports (and external hotshoe grip) for BASIC lighting and A/V accessories - and the top hotshoe 240/246 M-microphone option, provides decent sound very in-line with the “look” of the video, and much more sculptured than the Q2s. I know its not for everyone, and video is a fussy personal beast, but it’s what make a 246 a 246 - and that is a special piece of art - the lore that makes Leica history.. I’d pass that on to your viewers sometime for a throwback topic sometime. I did a short documentary on my 246, and I wouldn’t have done it any other way!
Will you eventually do a high ISO comparison between the two Monos? I have read from a French review website that Q2M has at least 1-2 stops advantages over M10M on higher ISO settings. Not sure if their test is legit but Id like to know your opinion on this. Thanks
I'm glad you make these videos. I am, but dude - your comparisons make me wonder if you need to have your eyes checked. The Q2 is NOT the same size as the M10M.
Leica got rid of any kind of video option in the M10 series to avoid in-house competition with the SL and Q series. Wished that both mono cameras had better low ISO options down to ISO 50 and maybe ISO 25 (would prefer this rather than having super high ISO).
You are the first person who uses a white wall and white table wich really help us to focus in these cameras, you're a clever man!!!
Great review, thanks. One other important difference is the weight. On holiday I prefer the lighter Q2 instead the “heavy” M.

Great channel. Just came across it. Love from Ireland 🇮🇪 Andrew

Another fantastic, informative video. I have learned so much from you, thank you so much for making photographer’s language accessible to all!
As always an amazing review! Thanks Math, you have helped me so much!
So glad I discovered your channel. Great review jam packed with useful information. Keep up the great work!

excellent video... one question, do you think that with the Leica q3 in monochrome mode... it will take better photos than the monochrome q2?

I also like to know!

@@belgianbushrc7934 Maybe also for the AF system ?
Thank you for your great comparison video I think made up my mind for the Q2 monochrome 😄

excellent review for a newbie to Leica coming from Nikon. TY

Yep Macro & the weight.

Can one shoot monochrome video on Leica Q2 and how does it look different than Q2M?
Thanks for this. Another thing I think might make a (small) difference: M10 Mono does not allow UHS-II cards where the Q2 does. I tried putting an UHS-II card on the M10 and took a couple of photos but they never made it to the card. (this was a test at the Leica store, I do not own an M10 Mono)

A great review. You make very informative videos. Thank you.
Thanks!
Thanks. This videos is very informative. I cannot afford any of them though lol.
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you so much. What brand and model of ring light do you have (shown in your background)?
Excellent video! Top!

the big difference is the flash sync speed that is much higher on the q monochrome
Terrific! Thank you very much!
Good video (just for the support cause comments helps in the video rating ;-)
Great video. Thank you.
Brilliant review

Total BS

Haha :) Great comment. Broadly comparable in terms of order of magnitude but, yes, not exactly the same size. My eyes are fine, just sloppy wording :)
The ISO/Long exposure on the Q2 is a symptom of it's price. How can the M10 justify it's price if the Q2 was as flexible/equipped?

Last point.. wtf they suppress the red dot on the Q2m ??? They could have at least made a b&w one !!!
That's the beauty of stealth bro!
Something I wish the Leica Monochrome is have the red logo
Matter of taste - some prefer the red logo, some prefer the discretion to not having the red logo.
Excellent
