DIRT CHEAP 68' DREAM Pirate Ship [Full Tour] Learning the Lines

- Опубліковано 13 лип 2019
- Originally built a little over ten years ago, the previous owner of this massive custom sailboat spent over a million dollars on the build. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could sail the boat, and the current owner purchased it from the estate. It's currently for sale now for a dirt cheap price when you compare it to the million dollars that it cost to build it. This boat hasn't been sailed and a lot of systems haven't even been used. The engine only has 50 hours on it.

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way.

Ive been fighting cancer since 2009 and im 60 now. All i can say is go for it and enjoy life to the fullest. You can always work an hustle more money but fun memories are not so easy
Bigg2 Phillips I’m also battling cancer, since November, and like you, I’m also 60 years old. If my wife didn’t get EXTREMELY SEA SICK, I would NOT even think twice! I’d just write the guy a check! What an amazing deal!!! She’s worth 5-6 times the asking price.
I don’t even know u at all. But I wish u the best and quick recovery!! God bless mate.
May Allah provide you with a full recovery. Take care!
Ive lost my battle with cancer 3 to 9 months until the inevitable. 61 years old.

Definitely a bluewater cruiser. The way that the sleeping quarters are laid out, the captain can get to the helm quickly if needed. A sure sign of a boat designed to be underway more than having her lines secured to dock cleats, for entertaining overnight guests.
Very rarely do we see a real, no-nonsense world's ocean going sailboat, purposefully thought-out and built for it's human masters...On the ocean you don't want large spaces to bang around, you want narrrow passages, high body-guards and railings, handholds where they should be (everywhere), bunks near the command center where you might be needed quickly etc etc...the designer and owner obviously have tons of marine-life experience and designed first for function, not fashion. That ship is a gem. When i will have the cash, I will look for it.
@Stephen Livers will do mate, happy to hear from another connaiseur!! hope you get the cash before i do..
Cheers bud!
Oh yes kids, take Dave up on his offer to take it for a sail! That would make for a great posting for all of us to enjoy, plus it may get him a buyer! Absolutely beautiful sailing yacht with all the comforts of a live aboard! That rear berth would be perfect for a captain.
Beautiful boat! With a full size chart table, thought of for sailing in safety and confort.
Love the channel!
These two youthful and respectful commentators are filled with great enthusiasm that they share; and they obviously love sailing and boats.
This stunning boat incorporates many critical life saving features suggested by many experienced blue water sailors and by many respected, published nautical authors.
I enjoy your large boat reviews and insights. Keep it up please.
Thanks again for the boat tours!
Please take it out for a sail!
👍👍⛵⚓⛵
Wow, it seems that boat is set up for long term world cruising, would love to see it under sail.
The boat is like a time capsule. So sad to see someone's dream die. But maybe someone can carry their dream on. Very nice couple boat.
Id see this as a great solo boat if it can be single handed. Why waste space on a cabin, its more like a studio, do the living in the salon and pilot house, the bunk is just to sleep on.
Looks like a fantastic boat,
don’t know if I could live with the fact that near 15 foot of the marina charge was going into bow sprit and davits
The most affable couple on all these sailboat sites. Always enjoy their videos.
That's how it should be - no wasted space, access to all areas. Can sleep many in emergency, but it's not a floating hotel.
Beautiful design for sure.
Wow this is a family world trip home something dreams are made of.
Go for it! Want to see her underway!!
Gorgeous boat! Love that skylight set up in the V birth. Scary having such limited visibility towards the bow.
RIP original owner & builder you have a beautiful boat for sure.
God....the prefect sailor's boat...definitely not a charter boat.
Long pointed aft is perfect for deep ocean swell right from the stern!!!
And long bow to dish into the waves....Too bad you didnt say much about the keel..and missed the second forestay attachment
No doubt that boat would be at home in the roaring 40s or even 50s!
If I had the money...would be my boat now!
Lovely visit
definitely take it out so you can see how it handles and experience working with the lines.
Love this one, I used to work there at Cape Yacht Management years ago. Great memories thanks for taking me back again ✌🏻❤️😊
Absolutely do it - sail that boat!
Nothing more expensive than a cheap boat.
AMEN
Lol
Yep be cautious of great deals the bigger the boat the more crew to handle sails. There more maintenance cost and things suchas paint etc bottom paint starts at $150 gal and most marinas charge rent according to the length.
Bowsprit = money for nothing mooring fees
you can say that again
Nice boat! That price sure seems like a bargain, too! Thanks for showing it!
Thanks of posting and sharing. Very cool boat.
This is a great boat for sailing its meant to handle
Its absolutely beautiful and you could take it anywhere!
Sailing is sailing. You got it.
Great boat! Only very big. Good luck! Hello from Russia. Watch your videos
That is some boat! Thanks for sharing. Loved the pilot house/upper saloon with bunk. The price is phenominal. Take care you two.
Nice yacht. Please take it for a sail. We could all learn something from your experience. Enjoying your videos.
🥂🇦🇺
That Bowsprit used together with a Stern Anchor makes it easy to reach into a stone shore without risking the rudder.
Thats how you anchor in a archipelago with stonecliffs.
Greatest 2 days in a Boat Owners life...The Day they buy it, and the day they Sell it
Wow, that is a deal. Wish I could leave my job and sail around the world in that beautiful ship
George Buehler built boats THAT BREAK Rocks it might hit . Tough ,
Gentle , homes at sea . Great guy .r.i.p. George.
Yes! Go sail it! You have the chance of a lifetime go do it! Take us along Please?
Sail with him! Maybe he will fall in love with sailing again. 119k is a steal!
I like how they rename everything to feel special.
Wow, that boat is built. Love your boat, Dave.
Neat boat... the interior layout is a little different... Thanks for the walk through!
Really enjoying the boat tours. Keep it going.
We enjoy making them! We're seeing so many cool boats first hand.
Roger K. Davis Hi mr Davis I see you on many of the sailing videos. Are you a sailor?
@@tomharrell1954 I have circumnavigated many times. Right from my living room recliner!!
I am looking on YachtWorld right now for that perfect blue water cruiser. I'm very close to retirement.
I have never sailed on a boat. I've looked at several for sale. I've toured a factory and the major dealers in Fort Lauderdale. My day is coming. I just make a comment to support the channels.
Agree. I could watch these all afternoon, even though my wife and I are buying a trawler.
Yes go on a sail with Dave. I love that boat.
That layout would drive me nuts!
Looks like a great ship. Let’s go sailing! Would love to see it in action. The price is amazing but I guess it reflects a very limited resale potential due to the quirkiness of the design. Most people looking for a boat that size want more comfortable staterooms and heads. I think your idea of a liveaboard couple using it as a day charter boat for groups sounds like a winner, and at that price the business model could work very well. Cool.
Yeah! Never turn down the chance to go for a sail on a boat like that. You should do it. I would love to see how it does.
If it's not sold that's a strong possibility!
Extremely well thought out boat. Definitely a different layout, but obviously the owner had a purpose in mind.
When I first saw this boat I laughed as aI thought a million dollars...seriously? No friggen way. But OMG as you did the tour I was in total awe. That vessel is a total labor of love and worth a dime of the million dollars. The guy who built it was a gifted engineer and carpenter. I wish I had a million dollars :-) The electronics all need upgrading but other than that and a couple other things like a water maker and some solar etc the boat is ready. It like all mono hauls needs a gyro stabilizer installed. But for the price you could afford to do some upgrades
$119K amazing. It would cost a fortune for insurance and maintenance however. Not to mention slippage. But what a boat. Great way to pass the time during a pandemic.
Hense, the seemingly giveaway price tag!
wow, that's the most interesting & expensive deck rigging I have ever seen...
the rig lines on the deck look like a trip hazard, the fact they are exposed to daily sun damage...
a 14' beam which limits portage, the costs involved regarding up-keep, are daunting...
Really nice boat and practical ,who ever designed it really thought things thru and made it the best it can be .
That's a very cool boat! Seems like the kind of vessel that a group of people would take out for a few days or week to just enjoy the seas, do some fishing & maybe a little diving off of it. More like a weekend cabin on the water than a live-aboard concept. Beautiful boat & it's seemed well lit with all the windows. V-berth was amazing & the little hidden drop drawers were perfect for stowing books to read.
What a tremendous vessel, quite a small ship really, when you see how over-engineered everything seems to be. And with a 3-inch hull...? The interior layout isn't my cup of tea at all, but each to their own, I guess. Too big for me, and too big for my pockets; a video tour is about as close as I'll ever get...many thanks to Dave and the team for making it happen...
Ted thesailor ugly ship
Like the drop down hatch for the 9mm .
What an amazing boat. It isnt impossible to move a few things to fit your needs and for the price this guy thought of everything.
It's a very luxurious, well built sailing yacht. It would make a very comfortable live aboard cruiser and at $119,000 seems to me to be a steal. I can imagine myself holed up in French Polynesia or a Fijian lagoon for months on end. The engine looked brand spanking new. A little TLC and you have yourself a million dollar boat for 90% discount. You guys should definitely take her out for a sail. Great video!
That is an amazing boat!!! The reason for the small cockpit is it's a real sea going boat. So if you were to take a large wave over the stern (get pooped) there's not enough water to sink the boat nor disable her.
I agree. I don't mind a small cockpit in a vessel like this. You've got the whole pilothouse to hang out in if you want to!
Wish I had the money for that boat :( It's immaculate
This is the one you two should buy! Problem is so much to take care of!
If it were our home 100% of the time I wouldn't mind so much the upkeep. I wouldn't take it on we weren't going to live aboard.
KEEP THESE VLOGS COMING!!!!!!!! LOVE EM'
Definitely go for a sail on that beautiful boat.
That's a strong possibility!
Where could the boat be seen? I might travel to see it, come aboard.
We would love to see you guys take him up on the offer of sailing it around the gulf. Hope, if you do, that you get some footage of VaMoose from the side., under sail. Appears to be a very beautiful boat - it has piqued our interest!
Beautiful Boat! Everything you need for a long voyage
I always appreciate your posts. And thank you for your time to share. I'm always sorry to hear of those who pass away before their dreams comes true. Happened in my neighborhood, so I have first hand experience. I'll die with unfulfilled dreams too. But this is why I go to church. Because I've proven the boundaries between virtue and vice. And "hope maketh not ashamed."
13:30 Dave's face when he realizes they're not buying the boat
That was a nice touch. It probably knocked $100k off the price.
lol Champagne wishes on a beer bottle budget!
was looking for the comment
What did it sell for or is it still available? Where is it located?
My father built this boat, I helped some for a summer
Hey James! I'd love to maybe hear more about your father and the build history of this boat. Shoot me an email at svsomnium@gmail.com if you can.
That must have been an amazing experience! Do you still have the plans?
@@jonas190 no, im not sure where they are
James R Bummer. They would be cool to see. Thanks for the reply.
Howdy James your father was a true Craftsman and designer I truly have fallen in love with this boat if I could sell everything right now and buy it I surely would I'm in the middle of a remodel though haven't found an interested buyer yet boy if it's available when I do I'm going to look and buy it . I love the openness and it's truly a boat for a slumber party . I can truly see myself selling this beautiful vessel around the world feeling safe and comfortable and very at home .
At very least I'll be celebrating your father for a long long time for such a beautiful dream !!!!!!!!9
Peace light loving gratitude freedom !!!!!!!!9

WOW!!! I'd love to have that ship! Gr8 vid!!! Love seeing you guys! ~Cheers!
Beautiful layout. Open concept is new to me. Go for it. The price is awfully cool. Looks well -thought out.
When you said that pilot house bunk was the only real bunk, I was like, noooo, come one. But then...
You should say "Shut up and take my money"!!! =)))
You guys could learn to love it!
We already do... just don't have the cash.
I love this boat!!!
Remember a good deal is a state of mine did anyone notice the wiring appears to be a squire nest wired with household romex three strand and changing a impeller would be a pain...the price is affordable ease of access is worth plenty...
Ok, so it wasn't just me. Did you see how much water the bilge pump was pushing out?
@@nobody46820 I don't think that was the bilge.. if you notice the power panel, it looked like the genset was running to me.
@@markayers5397 Or maybe the AC?
Very nice boat. Nice set up and seems well kept too but not a layout I would enjoy.
Very nice find, jump on that sailing tour & film
That’s probably true for most people. But I sailed my 37’ cutter 15K miles! Ventura, CA to New Zealand and back! And so can you! If have that dream, that desire! JUST DO IT!
Take it out for a sail..... it is a one off chance..... youll never regret that....i hope😁
I would live on that boat in a heartbeat. More amenities and more space than my dorm lol
Nice boat. I find myself comparing all conventionals to the SV Delos, Amel Supamaru.
Thanks for the tour
Love to see you sailing that boat. Beautiful boat.
I know this boat well. The original owner was my neighbor and Vamoose was in our canal for a few years while he worked on her. You wont find a better deal as the boat has never been sailed off shore as far as i know. It could be modified easily to be whatever you want. The price is ridiculously low. Someone will get the boat of their dreams and almost steal it! Good Luck!
I wish I could have a chat the original owner! Really cool that you knew him.
Do you know where the boat is now, the new owner contact information?
Ship Designer: You have a good amount of interior space here. What sort of features do you want?
Customer: Closets.
Designer: Okay but what else?
Customer: Was I not clear enough the first time?
Yep i thou to much wasted space but still a cool sail
That is an amazing find. Propper boat for long voyages.
that is the coolest boat I've seen yet for 110,000 $ !!! please make some more videos !
The way that boat is laid out makes me wonder if the original owner was prior navy or coast guard.
Or a smuggler
Great cruising cutter or a live a board. Love to be on board when it goes for a sail
She's a beauty! All a sailor could want.
Really liked the way you guys presented this boat.
Oh, “mast steps,” I never knew what they were called, so my name was Thigh-Snaggers (after you slip).
I heard they were called genital removers.
@chris younts I agree. Either one would do.
Ouch
That is a blue water boat if I’ve ever seen one.
OMG That is a steal!
Really liked this ... Learning more about the market.
Very nice! I too think you should take it out for a sail.
It is a beautiful boat, the price is very reasonable, however, I couldn't afford the slip rental, haul-out, and maintenance.
Agreed! That seems to be the case everywhere from Hot Rods to Horses to Boats and more. Scratchin' up the cash to purchase these hobby things isn't always the problem.......its how do you afford them once you own them.
Bud Pratt yep, couldn’t live with 15 foot of the marina charge going into bow sprit and davits
@Eddie Murray $119,000, About 1/10 the money already in it. If you buy it Eddie, call me, would love a sail on her.
@Eddie Murray I would not blame you. Wave to my canoe on your way out. I'll be the one fishing.
Perfect Great Loop boat.... ;)
One of the more awesome boats for an exceptional price.
What a beauty, I hope someone buys it asap so it doesn't waste away
Sail it! Let Dave dock/undock. Would love to see that.
How comfortable would you be piloting the boat from the inside wheel, not being able to see anything in front of you! Not for a second! What a huge flaw.
Would love to see that boat under sail.
Likewise
Yes, Can you do that
BodyGuardOfLies1 With that tall of a doghouse, it is more like a motor-sailer. Probably doesn’t sail very well with so much surface above the water line and with such a large displacement it’ll need a huge sail plan to move her.
Johnny Walker I wouldn't say that. Not every boat with a pilothouse is a slow motorsailor. The pilothouse here seems pretty proportional for the boat. The interior is not overbuilt (certainly in the aft it's pretty spartan). It's a thin long boat with a long bow sprit (so probably big sails)...wonder what the underwatership is like...this could very well be a fast passagemaker.
@@donaldvanvliet9039 well, at 68ft hull speed would be more than enough...
Amazing boat. Price is right. You need to travel the world on this boat.
It would be great to see you sailing that boat. Very cool tour. Thank you :)
Very nice boat and unbelievable price! I think it would be amazing to take it out and sail (hope you do :-) )...great video as always thanks for sharing !
Thats a lot of boat for the price, I'd jump at that price, what a bargain
I like this boat thanks for the tour.
Beautiful Dream Boat ! ⛵
