    This Oldawan Tool series on the Wicked Edge is tremendously helpful to people new to the sharpening system. Bob is a s good as Clay at explaining things and that's high praise indeed.

    Love the WEPS videos. This one in particular is probably the most helpful that I've found. Thanks!

    This video was FAR more informative than the other four I've watched, including those from the company.

      @@oldawantoolstostaysharp3821, I neglected to add it, but thank you.
      I am sure I am not alone in wondering going through the "[w]hat I was thinking," when I opted to spend a not insignificant amount on the Edge Pro. It took a whole month to quit looking back. At the cost of this unit, that wouldn't happen for at least two months. Too, it's probable that time would be greatly expanded by the limits noted in this unit in the course of your demo.
      From your video, the advantage of repeatability depends greatly on the operator, just as does the Edge Pro. For example, positioning the blade pivot point (thus the gauge), and the depth the blade is inserted in the clamp (thus the stop).
      Then there is the angle limitation issue.
      Anyway, I was ready to spend the next month crying over my inclination to spend like a drunken sailor, but you've monkey wrenched my non-plan.
      All said another way, a sincere thanks.

      @Kelly Craig - you're welcome....I think LOL. The choice of how to set up the knife is certainly up to the operator but once you have chosen that location then you record the set up and that makes it quicker to get back to the same set up. You can use a ruler or their advanced alignment guide to take more meaurements to make repeatability more precise. Similarly on the Edge Pro you can record settings by knife to get back to the same spot.

    Incredibly helpful thank you! I recently bought a KME sharpener through Amazon from you guys and a few accessories from your website and I'm very impressed with your service and follow up contact! This tip does apply for the KME as well.

    Could you please clarify something for me. At 7:14 you said "the line drops onto the shoulder" meaning the sharpie was not removed at the should near the tip. The wicked edge manuel I have for the we130 shows if the line is not removed from the shoulder toward the tip of the knife the knife is too far back and should be repositioned with the tip further from the clamp. Obviously I have something confused. Can you clear this up for me. My thanks.

    • @oldawantoolstostaysharp3821
      @oldawantoolstostaysharp3821  3 роки тому

      Hi Mark - I actually was referring to the line where the sharpie is wiped away - not the area where the sharpie remains. So in this case that line where the stone is removing the sharpie marker drops onto the shoulder at the tip - and the sharpie is being left at the cutting edge near the tip. So this is the opposite situation of the one you are looking at in the Wicked Edge manual. Since the sharpie is being removed on the shoulder that tells you the angle is too narrow to match the existing bevel since the stone is riding on the shoulder. And to fix that out at the tip you need to move the knife back in the clamp which will make the angle wider there. I hope that helps clarifies things . Shout if you have other questions

    If you would tilt position the knife so the edge was more in the same line would this help? The knife wouldn't be resting on both points of the depth key. I have a wicked edge and wondered if this would help in finding the sweet spot. I'm just a little south of you btw in N.M.

    • @oldawantoolstostaysharp3821
      @oldawantoolstostaysharp3821  6 років тому

      yeah you sure can tip the knife. It doesn't need to be parallel to the top of the vise for the angle to remain constant along the straight part of the blade but sometimes it is easier to match angles with the knife tipped. For repeatably - with the new advanced alignment guide you'd also be able to record that tilt (or you can use a ruler to measure up to the spine on the side that isn't resting on the pins). Feel free to swing by if you are in SF

    What is shami?

    • @oldawantoolstostaysharp3821
      @oldawantoolstostaysharp3821  6 років тому +1

      Chamois is a leather used for drying cars as it is nearly abrasive free. It is really thin and compressible and i find it to work great for wrapping the spine of the knife to protect it from scratching and to help shim the knife so it is more stable

    Hello, just purchased some wicked edge Acessories from you store yesterday. Super fast shipping!
    I have a doubt, I Have the Gen 3 pro, and I notice that the right ball beringela joints is moving some times durijg some knives, after I micro adjust and adjust the micro angles, I see that sometimes, even with the screen very tight this start Lopes up and the arm start dipping angles sometimes os too late when I see it, thats why im just usinh teste knives. What it could be? Thanks

      Oldawan Tools to Stay Sharp Yes, actually I just put some lube on the screws, and tighten up very nice and its steady now. I would like to know about lapping films, I have some of the 3m PSA backed, I think they are aluminum oxide, is there something better? Thanks.

      Did we get this resolved for you already? I'm not sure I follow if the micro adjust is what is moving or if the main angle adjustment is coming loose and lowering your angle too. Can you contact me - reply to my email or through the information on our website www.oldawan.com

      Great - I'm glad to hear that. Better is a matter of opinion. The diamond films are more expensive as I'm sure you are aware but many of my customers do like them better - they last about the same but they get faster results.
