At least it seemed (to me) to be autogaining. But no oversampling is an odd place to fall flat, even Analog Obsession has oversampling and those are FREE. Anyway, there are enough "air band" tools like Luftikus or Slate Fresh Air (both of which are or have been free) out there, three digit pricetags on this is just not happening.
Sometimes I wonder, does it really matter with all this alias talk? If someone uses this only use one on a master bus or on 6 busses, will this really matter? I wonder how many professional engineers made tracks with all these different plugins and how much alias they added over 40-160 tracks, and at the end, we love the music.... but it seems we get so caught up on the 'technical side' of things like alias. (I get caught up too) That's why I'm posing this question, does it really matter?
That is a good question and the answer is probably no. There is this guy, Dan Worral, who seems to be somewhat of an UA-cam audio community god. He's an expert with these technical questions. Then I saw he has his own music on spotify and I checked it out. I didn't think it sounded good. Maybe just not my style, but I was very underwhelmed by the mixing. So there's that.
Aliasing is really bad if you can hear it, that's about it imo. I just made my first synth plugin, and without anti-aliasing, it sounded very distorted and weird if I played treble notes. So that's a case where it really matters - I don't wanna have a synth where you can't hear which notes you are playing. But if you don't hear anything funny and you just see something in a spectrum, honestly who cares at that point
What rubs me the wrong way about the BSA plugs is they’re literally just copycats of plugins that already exist. Oxygen is probably the most egregious considering Fresh Air is free lol
It's just a guy making chains in pro tools, and then he asks a dev to put it in a plugin. I don't really understand the process, it seems near impossible to come up with something new and interesting that way. I just learned C++ for plugin development and I mean, that's honestly an easier way to make fun plugins than just endlessly recreating things that already exist in pro tools... You gotta play around and mess with the guts of audio code to come up with fun stuff, because happy accidents never happen otherwise
This plugin handles a few processes that I often do on Overhead tracks, but it usually involves 3 different plugins. I reach for this because its all in one. I also have used it for some high end manipulation on snares that straight EQ doesn't do as well, and strangely its amazing for bringing out the grindy frequencies on a distorted bass track.

That's the point of these videos. Using a plugin and listening to what it does is just one part of the video. Another aspect is whether the claims and price tag attached to it are worth it. Maag eq4 from Plugin Alliance is available for 29-39$ in any sale (which happens many times every year). Slate Fresh Air is absolutely free. Any stock eq with an adjustable high shelf, along with a decent saturation plugin (Softube Saturation Knob is a free one) will give you the desired effect at a much lower price point. I use Decapitator all the time and it is known for its lack of oversampling - but I can tune it so it is perfect for my sounds!
The question though, is, why you would need something that is a high shelf eq paired with an aliasing saturator. You could use a basic eq (the shelf is not particularly complex) together with decapitator (which aliases less than this)

I agree for the oversampling. However, I think that saying that what the plugin does can be done with other plugins is not an argument. An engineer can use a plugin or a machine not only for the technical things that it allows to do, but also for the way it does it. For example, you often talk about the UI. There’s a lot of plugins that do the same thing but with a different UI, and sometimes is the UI that makes the difference. Agree, except for their gate plug-in, “Silencer.” I personally love it and got it at launch for super cheap. It works very well and is incredibly simple. Now they’re probably charging some stupid price for it.
I own a number of bsa plugins because I’m a fan or Jordan. To say that any one plugin is unique is a bit of a misnomer, and for everyone saying other plugins can do this, it’s true. The difference those guys do is package a number of tools together in one tool to create and simple, one knob solution instead of needing to stack comps and eqs together with saturation to achieve the same thing. They’re tools of convenience. And for those that say they’re priced too hard, I do agree. However, they regularly have sale prices. I don’t think I’ve paid more than $20 per plugin.
ALL new plugins exist only to make money for companies. The tools (plugins) existing today is more than enough for all productions, and no new plugins are needed. This is true for most audio equipment and tools. Why invent the wheel again? Answer: Money, money and money... and of course to fool those who believe their mixes/tracks will sound better with new plugins. Oh my god, instead learn and keep on learning, that's more important than any plugin.
totally, whoever buys these plugins are insane. Devs can't even get their aliasing under control. Don't know who would ever pay that much money to make their sound worse lol.
Why is everyone going crazy. Just try the free trial. If you like it cool, if you don't then don't continue to use it no harm done, move on and no money lost. Music bros are too emotional about plug-ins
Is it possible that a company that made a plugin that you didn't like could make a plugin that you do like? I have just got Black Salt's new drum plugin 'Silencer' and I have to say it seems very good. 😎
Plugin does wayyyy tooo little compared to other plugins doing way more. When it fomes to air, transients and harmoncis. And most are even free. But this one should be free too. Maybe they should even pay the user
TBH I'm not hearing aliasing when I use Oxygen...and even though Plugin Doctor shows some, it's well below the audio level in your video. This is like saying don't use a plugin that deliberately adds noise creatively, this plugin is about color...so I don't think I agree with your conclusion not to buy it.
Isn't this mostly for vocals though? Or any *track in your mix, not *full mixes? Hmm. Resampling, though... Dom seems to really like it: ua-cam.com/video/kalXDi7n5Eg/v-deo.html
So much rudeness and hate in UA-cam comments, is this what the internet was made for? People judges plugins by watching UA-cam videos: Is this the end of contact with the real world and direct experience? Sadly yes...
Also I'm pretty weary and leary (lol) of plugin UIs that say "punch", "smooth", "bite" or things of that nature. Fancy words that can mean completely different things for different people. If they charge 30 or 40 something for this plugin I might be willing to give it a spin, at three digits, no dice.
I know that BSA-Plugins a way overpriced and just combine a bunch of steps into one plugin. The latter being the argument to try them out. It's just easier. I woulnd't pay full price tough. That being said, could the problem with the missing oversampling being solved with the built in oversampling in Reaper? Since a few versions ago you can add native oversampling for any plugin within Reaper itself. Maybe you can revisit that with PluginDoctor. :)
The price of this plugin is just ridiculous. Whoever decided to sell a bit of highshelf-saturation for more than 20€ has lost their mind. i wouldn't even say that the plugin sounds bad or that every nonlinear plugin desperately needs oversampling, because as you noticed yourself, it sounds good. but there's nothing complicated going on dsp-wise and no unique idea as claimed on the website. it just seems like a nice little convenience tool, just like bertom air shelf. actually would be interesting to see how these 2 plugins compare, since bertom has earned a great reputation already, but hasn't got a very "commercial appearance" yet
No oversampling in modern plugins it's at least crazy. There is no debate for oversampling...it was 6-7 years ago, but last years there is no serious developer that creates plugins with no oversampling. End of story...
Lol I remember the dude that wanted to make these plugins wanted someone to build these plugs for him for free for exposure. I could tell these were trash as soon as I downloaded. Takes some balls to send it to you to review.

And this is why nice graphics fool people into buying CRAP. Looks great until you analyze it the proper way. Again...utter crap, focused on people who don't know better.
Oversampling isnt a necessarly a must. Its simple as that: i liked the sound. Wether or not you can replicate this nice sound, you havent prooven. In my oppinion there are very subtle things that make me want a "preampdisortion /distortion" Eq-plugin. And i liked this one. Oversampling is done with Linear Filters, and for some reason i really dislike Linear Filters. I found myselve turning off oversampling on other Plugin just cause i disliked it more than i liked the cleanness.. Anyway. I like the sound, and dont think im biased, i expected some cheap ass hyped Compressor-sounds. And imediatly found, ohh, ohh, it added a nice weight to the Highs. thats my OPPINION. NO CLAIM . PEACE
@@loco3975 aahm, i said: wether or not you can replicate the nice Sound this plugin has, that wasnt prooven. I didnt say anything other than that. You reacted to my response as if i said you cant replicate a Equalizer with a bit Distortion. That wasnt what i ment, atleast not clearly, i spoke about reaching this class of SOUND. So, again, wther or not Whitesea can replicate such a HIGHCLASS of SOUND, he hasnt prooven.
@@matt_nyc_audioengineer i found myselve turning oversampling OFF when i had the CHOICE in a Plugin. I didnt like it.. so: what you like, i probably feel different about it. I like hard hitting transients, and linear Filters (equalizers) impair Transients. Im not saying this cause somebody said it, i say it because i listend, and felt that way. Again, there are also pros to oversampling, the smooth clean sound, but this tiny amount of smeard Transients. hmm, not shure if its worth it for me, just to gain a bit of Preampdistortion .
@@erewrw1906 For sure to each their own, it's a highly personal thing. I feel quite the opposite lol. I oversample any plugin that gives me the option. Yes, it can take away transients but I just compensate for the loss. Aliasing to me makes a record sound dull and boring. No matter how good it's mixed to me if there is to much aliasing it just sounds..... flat. That may be a better word. There is such a thing as too much oversampling, especially if you don't know how to compensate for it.
Oversampling isn't something you should use by default. There's been a few times when I've turned it off, or down because it sounded worse to my ears than when on. Depends on how well the Dev implements it I suppose. Also, if you mix at higher sample rates, you don't need OS altogether and plugins will sound better in general.
@@adsm6464 Jordan from BS uses all their plugins and he's got pretty decent album credits. I'm pretty sure if the lack of OS was going to be an issue for him, he would've had the devs add it. I think he partly wanted to start this software company, so he could make plugins that would simplify his own workflow, by using just one plugin that does a few things. Agreed they are probably way too pricey for what they are, but he's been running sales on BS products pretty regularly lately, so you can snag these for way lower than retail. This is his first venture into the plugin business, so I'm sure he's going to continue to make some mistakes and adjustments along the way.
Tbh, Black Salt Audio is the one company i dislike the most. There is nothing new on any plugin, nothing is particularly exciting and my initial thoughts on these are always "Oh wow, i could load up 2 plugins instead, have more control and can do the exact same or even more". Also stuff is always missing, like a blend knob here, oversampling there... And the prices for the pure lack of creativity, uniqueness, functions and features, are absolutely bonkers. Also the plugins are just 2 steps in one plugin done. You still have to do the 2 changes in here, but now it might have reduced the amount of plugins you loaded up by 1, even tho I doubt the processing power will be less... I feel like it's pure uninspired cash grab.
I"m sorry but this plugin gets my digital sounds to sound analog after downward compression. I leave "control" alone as it compresses too hard imho...but saturation and oxygen knobs are usually cranked up all the way unless they begin to sound digitally harsh then I dial back a bit.
I think the emphasis was meant to be on it being risky without oversampling. He said foldback distortion can sound good, but it depends on the source material.
Adding some high frequencies so your brain perceives it as "better".
What an innovation.

Agree, except for their gate plug-in, “Silencer.” I personally love it and got it at launch for super cheap. It works very well and is incredibly simple. Now they’re probably charging some stupid price for it.
@@mattwhite399 I thought that would looks cool but I already got Smart Gate which I have found does what i need.
Agreed on that Silencer. and The Clipper i like also !
Love the doctor plug-in analysis.
"Sounds great but don't buy this because it has no OS" said no professional mixer ever 😂
So risky guys... so RISKY!
totally, whoever buys these plugins are insane. Devs can't even get their aliasing under control. Don't know who would ever pay that much money to make their sound worse lol.
So it’s a no, right?
Sounds like a saturation algo applied to high frequencies. In other words pretty damn easy to replicate in Saturn 2.
⚠SNAKE OIL ALLERT⚠
Even Slate Digital's Fresh Air would be better than this.
Can you give a official link to plug-in doctor??
If you Google it you can find it pretty quickly.
Yeah, but having a second link to compare to confirms it's a legit website location to buy it from.
I couldn’t even hear the difference between the three main settings.
they don't mention a silky high end on their website. it's a sikly high end.
Haven't found a thing likeable about this company, high prices for lackluster tools
Yes, the fact that a plugin is bad, does not mean the company is bad
ah, the good old duststörm by sand-dude! xD
The song used in the video is Feel You by Wendy Marcini
Sounds like 'keep your head to the sky' by Earth Wind and fire
I thought it was Darude Sandstorm?
Review Pulsar Modular P11 Abyss Compressor please.
Hey, is this thing snake oil? Let me know, thanks!
Ah, aliasing, just what i needed in my top end *chef kiss*
“warmer high end” okay
It seems to me to be similar to the Fresh Air plugin from Slate.
Hey man, would love to see a Snake Oil video on Platinum Notes.
Isn't this mostly for vocals though? Or any *track in your mix, not *full mixes? Hmm. Resampling, though...
Dom seems to really like it: ua-cam.com/video/kalXDi7n5Eg/v-deo.html
Yay! I'm excited for more plugin doctor
Slate Digitals “ Fresh Air “ is free 😊 and it’s incredible.
What do you mean "it’s incredible"? There is nothing special about the Fresh Air IMHO.. Apart from being free.
Volcano Ftw 😅😁
I know that BSA-Plugins a way overpriced and just combine a bunch of steps into one plugin. The latter being the argument to try them out. It's just easier. I woulnd't pay full price tough. That being said, could the problem with the missing oversampling being solved with the built in oversampling in Reaper? Since a few versions ago you can add native oversampling for any plugin within Reaper itself. Maybe you can revisit that with PluginDoctor. :)
Or Metaplugin
Inb4 title change
Also in b4 title change.
No oversampling in modern plugins it's at least crazy. There is no debate for oversampling...it was 6-7 years ago, but last years there is no serious developer that creates plugins with no oversampling. End of story...
I wonder what Jordan is going to say…
Hopefully "I have no idea what it takes to build a plugin"
One day it will be sandstorm…one day
Love the groove of the track though
Lol I remember the dude that wanted to make these plugins wanted someone to build these plugs for him for free for exposure. I could tell these were trash as soon as I downloaded. Takes some balls to send it to you to review.
(UPDATED) LIST OF STUFF THAT WILL HAVE YOU QUICKLY REPLACED:
* Failing to include digital oversampling to mitigate against aliasing, clipping, and quantization distortion.
Oh no no no....
It just sounded good. Oversampling ist not necessary. You look too much on the technical side. It’s actually the saturation from the God Particle.
Tbh, I could barely hear it doing anything, so I'm surprised plugin even picked up on that high end bump.
Yeah if this was 29.99 type of VST I would say its pretty good, but 100 dollars is way way way overpriced
And this is why nice graphics fool people into buying CRAP. Looks great until you analyze it the proper way. Again...utter crap, focused on people who don't know better.
i cant believe you didnt hear them craclings at the flul blast! Realy? have you forgotten ho to use yor ears?
that song......i love your smile?

NO CLAIM . PEACE
There's free plugins with oversampling, if one dev can do it, so can the company asking for expensive shitty plugins
Oversampling is a must. Especially if you are mixing professionally.
But not even having the option in a high frequency specific plugin priced at $100+ is a bit dodgy all the same, your point is solid though.
Oversampling is one of the least important aspects of mixing. Ughhh
Ads are so annoying
Plugin Doctor is awesome 🧡
I'll stick with my Saturn and my Pro Q
100% a cash grab
Thanks for the video, bought it immediately.

This plugin is for "trust your ears" guys
Fresh Air Plugin has entered the chat!
I"m sorry but this plugin gets my digital sounds to sound analog after downward compression. I leave "control" alone as it compresses too hard imho...but saturation and oxygen knobs are usually cranked up all the way unless they begin to sound digitally harsh then I dial back a bit.
So it sounded good until you decided to run it through plugin doctor? Wow!
I think the emphasis was meant to be on it being risky without oversampling. He said foldback distortion can sound good, but it depends on the source material.
Its fresh air.
That would be a smell of shit into fresh air I believe.
@@Projacked1 🤣 So if you could add brown color into the Fresh Air plugin, it would be this one.
HAHAHAHA brown air is confusing!
