RIP Sam Moore (October 12, 1935 - January 10, 2025), aged 89 And RIP Dave Prater (May 9, 1937 - April 9, 1988), aged 50 You both will be remembered as legends
Wow! I'm watching the Redskins/Commanders game and this song came up during commercial. I always LOVED the song; so, I pulled it up so my husband and I could sing and play around; but I had no idea the original singer just died😮😢This was a song from my parebts' era so I knew the music; but not the name of the singers. May they rest in peace.❤
No introduction required. An absolute all time classic by Sam & Dave, with brilliant guitar riffs by Steve Cropper, excellent back-up by Booker T & The MGs and let's not forget the late great Isaac Hayes. Brilliant, just utterly brilliant. No version comes close to this great, great original. The original and the definitive and the best version.
I was 4 years old but I remember this song vividly. It was my daddy’s song. It always seem to magically be playing on the radio as we sat down to eat dinner.
I remember when this was new on the radio in 1967 when I was in school! When music made sense and you can understand what the singers are singing about.
@@justsomeguyhere811 Then explain it to me when one of my classmates brought his portable radioto class and we heard it when I was in the 7th grade in Intermediate School 8 in Jamaica, Queens, NYC? We were waiting for our teacher to come in during the change of periods.
Don't think the new technology we have in music can really stand up to the old classics!. You can hear "the soul" in the track...the human factor...not a machine in sight...
“Soul Man,” Sam and Dave, 1967. The #7 hit in the US on December 5, 1967, this was an authentic Stax Records classic, produced by Issac Hayes and backed up by Booker T $ the MGs and featuring Steve Cropper on lead guitar. The original version of “Soul Man” deservedly won the 1967 Grammy for Best Rhythm And Blues Group Performance.
Those intro guitar licks by Steve Cropper backed up by the MG'S, is the essence of soul....the iconic Sam Moore, with Dave Pratt....just didn't get any more soulful.
This was the jam when I was a Freshman in high school. We had a teacher talent show and my homeroom teacher and another teacher lip synched this!! It was great!! RIP Mr. Moore ❤
Baba Sam Moore and Baba Dave Prater classical or what? Baba Isaac Hayes deserves full credit writing their lyrical classics. Ase o Ase from our ancestors to Baba Isaac Hayes and Baba Dave Prater.
I am here from First Take they had this song playing in the back ground in the beginning of the show and Stephen A was dancing vibing and grooving too it they put me on today this a jam i am feeling and digging this song
Goodbye Sam Moore! your duos with Dave, especially on this recording will forever be etched in my heart. That was the time when music was music!
Well said!
Just 10 days into the new year and we've lost our 4th music legend, the other 3 being Wayne Osmond, Brenton Wood and Perter Yarrow. RIP to all.

Epitome of soul, blues and rock n roll. If this doesn’t get you up and moving. nothing will.
What did Issac Hayes play on this song
@@elliothagen9874 Issac Hayes doesn't appear on the recording, but he was one of the writers.
True, the blues brothers version sucks
Happy 86th. Samuel David Moore October 12, 1935. Miami, Florida.. I liked you way before The Blues Brothers. A true pioneer of big band blues..

Reminiscing... rapt! Saturday, 29 October 2022
I'm so glad that I was a part of this era. I loved the soul music and the native Americans that introduced "Soul music. 😁.
I've heard that these two guys didn't get along too well together. Maybe so, but they made one of the best singing duos in US music history.
Im so glad i got to see them sing together in a bar in the 70s.
I was 4 years old but I remember this song vividly. It was my daddy’s song. It always seem to magically be playing on the radio as we sat down to eat dinner.

@@justsomeguyhere811 it did very well to hit the charts in 1967 then...
@@justsomeguyhere811 No, you're thinking of the SNL sketch "Blues Brothers", from 1978. This here - by Sam & Dave, 1967 - is THE original.

the soul is missing but don't ignore the production engineering that went into this stuff.
